    Tom Kha Salmon (GF)

Nomad, no thanks. We decided to come here for Valentine's Day a day early, on the 13th. Made reservations, arrived on time and we were seated by a stressed and frantic host. There was a bottle of water and two glasses on the table, so after a while with no greeting, no waiter, no nothing, we poured a glass and waited. The service: Anyway, we saw the waitress maybe four times. To take our drink and app order, to place our order, to deliver the check and once when I waved her down to request a few things with our meal (lemon, tarter). The place is tiny so there's no reason to not swing by and check on us! The food: the Pakora app for $10 was little, was cold, was drab. Each piece was about an inch in diameter and there were five pieces. The mint condiment tasted like it came from a jar and the pakora didn't taste freshly cooked. My 'Tom kha' Salmon was nothing like Tom Kha, but it was good. It was a creamy sauce with galangal slices, but no lemongrass or kaffir lime. The salmon itself was farm raised and, well, I didn't find out until the end of the meal (although I asked) because our waitress said, 'I got busy' which is basically saying 'you're not important'... Charlie's fish and chips were the star of the show. They were delicious and the reason I gave three stars. The atmosphere: although it's pretty and comfy inside, the staff gave off a frenetic energy that just wasn't pleasant. The two top tables are inches from your neighbors, so your conversations might get tangled together. We opted to skip dessert here and go to Antonia's for theirs. It was nice to be warmly greeted and promptly attended to at a familiar favorite (Antonia's). We were wishing we'd eaten there instead of The Nomad. It's unfortunate to leave a restaurant unsatisfied, unhappy and sure we won't return.

Really great selection of foods! The title "Nomad" is fitting -- everything from Pad Thai to yuca to burgers. I had the burger with Brie, and it was delicious. The yuca on the side was absolutely amazing. The mango lassi was BOMB! I'm fairly confident that everything on the menu would be great. Overall, a very safe and delicious option for lunch or dinner!

Sooooo good! The Chicken Souvlaki was some of the best chicken I've ever - the flavor and spices were just so delicious. Loved the tzatziki sauce. The naan that came with it was also great. The dark chocolate mousse was so rich and creamy and I loved the peanut butter topping! We had no problem getting a table on a Monday night, but it does seem like a spot that many people make reservations for. There was plenty of free parking around the back of the building and there's also street parking.

Nomad is a wonderful spot! Have eaten there 2 times in the past month. The cocktails are refreshing and unique. I have had the pad thai with chicken which was one of the best I have tried, a little spice but not too overpowering. I also have had the chicken shawarma paired with naan bread, the chicken was tender and flavorful paired with delicious rice, hummus, and pickled red onion. Service has always been great, the staff are so friendly. The restaurant is in an old theater and has so much character.

Nomad's eclectic vibe, well prepared drinks and incredible food make them a MUST visit! Our service was fantastic as well and the server made excellent recommendations on what to get! I cannot say enough how delicious every single dish we had was! I thought about the dishes even weeks after going! I will 100% be back soon!

Came here for Valentines day and I absolutely do not regret it. The atmosphere of the place is so calm and cute. The brick wall gives it a bit of a rustic vibe. The food looks and smells delicious, it even TASTES delicious. I love that the portion isn't too much but also not too little. The staffs all are very professional and I can tell they put their customers first. I'd definitely recommend anyone who would like to try a variety of different foods, try this place!

Just an excellent experience at The Nomad. Service was extremely attentive, menu was clear and simple for my wife's Celiac, every bit of food was delicious, and the price came out reasonable. The location is historic and noise level is low, despite an open floor plan. Highly recommend.

We stopped by on a Saturday at around 1 for lunch. We were a party of 6 and we had a reservation. It was not crowded inside at all. A few people started off with a beer and a few other had mixed drinks. The mixed drinks were good - especially the "mule" that was really spicy. They had 2 waiters. It was adequate. We had the poutine app that was made with yuca as opposed to fries. Poutine was meant to be made with fries. I thought the yuca was a fail. It needed salt and pepper neither of which was on the table. Entrees came out with several mistakes. One person had to wait while his was actually made again from scratch. I had the ramen noodles with chicken. I requested spicy and that's what I got. I greatly enjoyed it. No complaints from anyone about the taste of the food. The surcharge for naan was what we thought to be a mis-step. The butter chicken needed the naan and should of been included. Maybe we will stop by for Sunday brunch. The menu looks pretty good.

We had: - the dates stuffed with pistachios and wrapped in bacon - the flounder - the steak with chimichuri - the olives - pan con tomate - potatoes bravas - tuna ceviche - crumble - cinnamon cake It was all very good. The best dishes were the potatoes bravas and the steak. Th rest was pretty mediocre. We had a broke of white Rioja--it went well with the food and was a good deal at $56.

From the amazing service and the curated bar menu, with a bar staff that can create drinks based on your specific taste preferences, to an extraordinary selection of bold and flavorful cuisine, Little Bull is a Huge Gem in the Durham area. __ I have had the opportunity to travel the globe, 6 continents, 62 countries, and 33 US states, tasting some of the most memorable and sometimes not memorable culinary experiences. When looking at a restaurant, it is important to consider the entire dining experience, including ambiance, service, and food. Little Bull achieved excellence in all these categories. __ Tom Kha Ceviche - Snapper, coconut leche de tigre, mixed peppers, sweet potato, choclo, peanut, salsa macha, onions, and plantain chips. The snapper was incredibly fresh, which paired perfectly with the coconut leche de tigre. The broth was well balanced with richness from the peanut butter and salsa macha, sweetness from the sweet potato and choclo, and spice from the peppers and onions. The plantains were the perfect way to bring all the ingredients together. __ Gambas a La Plancha - Shrimp, salsa piquin, onion, and ciabatta. The shrimp was well-cooked and tender, delivered with the perfect char, bringing the right sweetness while pulling in the spicy and smoky flavors from the salsa piquin. The ciabatta was a nice accompaniment to this dish, helping you soak up the amazing base sauce. __ Winter Cabbage - Charred NC Cabbage, Salsa Malcojeta, Beans Mousseline, Cumin Vinaigrette, and Salsa Macha. This was a complex dish, with the creaminess of the mousseline, the charred flavor of the cabbage, the nuttiness of the salsa macha, and the earthiness of the cumin vinaigrette. While I figured this dish would have a little spice, this dish was super spicy. I would have liked the waiter to have advised us of this before we ordered the dish. __ Arepas - Cheese arepas, chicken guasacaca, cilantro and avocado aioli, avocado mousse, sour cream and pickled onions. The cheese arepas were cooked perfectly, with a nice, crisp exterior complementing the soft interior and pairing nicely with the chicken, cilantro, and avocado flavors. The pickled onions and sour cream added a nice balance to the dish. My only complaint would be that I would have liked a little more flavor. It seemed to be lacking something, making it a little bland. __ Presentation was impeccable. I love how they curated each dish and really highlighted all the ingredients. It definitely represents why they were mentioned in the Michelin guide. __ Overall, this is a must-visit restaurant for any occasion. This is the second time I visited the restaurant and have officially made it one of my go-to restaurants for different occasions.

This is a casual, fun, Asian-Latin fusion restaurant and bar. Inside, the space is divided into two sides: bar and dining room. A big "LUCHA TIGRE" covers one of the bar walls and pop art decorates the main dining room wall. They also have a somewhat spacious, partially-covered patio. Overall, it's got a neat vibe. I booked our reservations on Lucha Tigre's website at https://luchatigre.com/ The reservation process was unconventional because instead of getting booked immediately, I had to wait for an email confirmation. On a Sunday, I got a "Pending Reservation Request" email at 2:16pm followed by a confirmation email at 2:52pm, so a 36-minute turnaround time. I got us a same-day reservation at 5pm, not a peak time as evidenced by the lack of customers upon our arrival. However, business had picked up by the time we left around 6:30. The menu had an interesting selection of food and drink. A few good examples of the Asian-Latin fusion served here include General Tso's Chicken Empanadas ($5 each), Pozole Ramen ($15.99), and Pad Thai Al Pastor ($16.99). They also serve straight-up Asian and Latin dishes like pho ($14.99) and tacos ($2 and $4 each). Drink-wise, they had a full bar with a decent selection that included tequila, mezcal, and sake cocktails. They even had a cocktail made with Japanese Suntory Whisky Toki. Here's what my wife and I had: Bebidas Especiales (cocktails) * El Conquistador ($14) - Tequila Herradura Silver, freshly-squeezed citrus, Cointreau Tapas * Tuna Tiradito ($16.99) - sashimi tuna with aji amarillo pepper, onions, cilantro, roasted corn nuts, and fresh citrus; Nikkei cuisine * Bulgogi Nachos ($15.99) - giant-size nachos with Korean BBQ beef, pico, kimchi, cheese, crema, jalapenos, black beans Entrees * Salmon Poke ($18.99) - raw salmon with sesame, onion, and tamari with seaweed salad, rice, and avocado * Pollo Saltado ($16.99) - stir-fried chicken, tomato, cilantro, onion; served over fries with rice and salad In general, we were happy or content with everything. Some dishes were better than others. Beautiful presentation all around. The El Conquistador was a margarita that was more tart and less sweet. It was refreshing. I liked the Tuna Tiradito more than my wife. Tiradito is like Peruvian sashimi. I thought this dish was fine. I could see why my wife didn't like it as much because the texture of the tuna wasn't as fresh and appetizing as the tuna sashimi we're accustomed to. This tuna was a bit more "pasty" in texture. Also, the roasted corn nuts, which we think were the same as hominy, didn't add much. The standout dish was the Bulgogi Nachos. I saw pictures of it on Yelp and knew we had to order it. The portion size was huge and the Korean beef bulgogi was sweet and savory. We devoured the nachos. They were incredibly delicious and addictive. A lot of textures and flavors, and they all blended and worked well together. The Salmon Poke was solid. I recommend it if you like poke. Admittedly, it was better than we both expected because we haven't encountered a lot of great poke in the Chapel Hill-Durham area. Decent portions and fresh salmon, seaweed salad, and other ingredients. I will say the rice tasted plain and not seasoned with rice vinegar. The poke came with two sauces on the side, tamari (a type of Japanese soy sauce) and what I think was a type of curry sauce. The salmon was already nicely marinated and tasty so the sauces weren't needed. The Pollo Saltado was OK. It wasn't among the best I've had, but it was "authentic." The problems with this dish were the chicken was too dry and tough and the fries were underseasoned (not salty enough). Unfortunately, the salad was the best part of this dish. Our server Taryn was great. She was attentive and efficient. Everything we ordered came out fairly quickly. One detail I really liked and appreciated was Taryn neatly packed our leftovers and labeled and dated the boxes. That's an extra level of service you don't get at most other sit-down restaurants. Lucha Tigre opened in December 2012. It replaced the Chapel Hill location of The Original Flying Burrito: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-original-flying-burrito-chapel-hill You can find it in the Midtown Market shopping plaza, north of UNC's campus. We also tried oysters for the first time (they were around $1.50-$1.99 during happy hour), and they were surprisingly delicious. We tried a few grilled skewers, shrimp, eggplant, and tofu, which were good, but not my absolute favorites of the night. The best was the egg sando. It might sound simple, but it was incredible, honestly tasted just like the ones I had in Japan, if not better. And the fries?? Perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My new favorite fries in Durham.

We almost didn't come because of some of the lower ratings, but our experience couldn't have been better. Everything felt fresh, well-executed, and welcoming from start to finish. Our whole family had a fantastic dinner, and it will definitely be on our list every time we're back in Durham visiting Duke.

The place is quite small, with about five tables, and maybe 12 seats at the bar. We sat at the bar as we only wanted drinks and snack. Christian, the bartender, greeted us right away and brought food and drink menus. He explained the specials and took our drink orders. My companion found an interesting Greek white wine, and I asked for a boulevardier, my go-to cocktail for a new place. The wine was to her liking, and the cocktail was about the best example I've had in recent memory. Christian used Woodford Reserve bourbon and Campari rather than Aperol so it had a slightly less bitter taste and was a lovely auburn color. The food menu was very interesting, with lots of items we've never tried. We ordered caesar salad with anchovies, green beans in garlic-soup sauce, panella (a chick-pea and cream cheese dish), and seasoned French fries. It was all yummy and delivered together. The service we got really couldn't have been much better: attentive without hovering. The food and drink quality was outstanding, and we thought the prices were very reasonable for what we got. In short, thanks Christian, and we'll be back.
