Experience as just ok in getting a wedding dressed altered. I have a very simple wedding dress that really need minimal alternations but I was talked into a lot of add-ons. My mom ended up agreeing to them, so that's fine. First appointment for fitting, Hannah clearly forgot about my dress as nothing was altered. To make it worse, there was no communication about it and her excuse was that this was the busy season for her. When I went to the last fitting, she pressed by dress for an extra fee of $125 that was never discussed. I didn't need the dress pressed and I was going to travel, so the dress was going to get wrinkled again. Overall very average experience. With a busy work schedule, I didn't have the bandwidth to find a new tailor. Would not return future alterations. read more

She took my off the rack wedding gown that was 10 sizes too big for me and magnificently made it fit me like a glove without losing any of the intricate detailing of the dress. My dress had 9 layers of tool which she also beautifully hemmed and took in. I was so nervous about the lace detailing and if it would look the same after the alterations but Hannah did such gorgeous work. You would never know that the dress had been so drastically altered. I would give 0 stars if possible. My fiancé's dress was butchered. 2 weeks from the wedding, the dress was supposed to be finished and it was completely screwed up. The waist was way higher than what was asked for, and multiple other alterations were way off. For the price you pay at this place, it should be done exactly as asked for by the customer. If I could rate Hannah a six star, I would. She is very polite and very fair. Her tailoring skills are "second to none". I brought in two wedding dresses, one to be tailed from full to three quarter length and the other to have the sleeves altered. The second dress required removing all of the flowers in order to alter, then meticulously sewing the flowers back on. I looked at the near final product and it is just beautiful. My husband and I just went to Italy to celebrate our two year anniversary and I finally pulled the trigger of having my wedding dress altered to rewear. I was super nervous but Hannah was so excited n made it easier because I know she's a complete pro at anything with dresses. I'm SO happy I did it. Now just need to find more reasons to wear it! Previous review: I just picked up my wedding gown yesterday and couldn't be happier! Hannah did an amazing job and had another very happy customer! I brought my BHLDN dress in from their recommendations and she completely re shaped my dress to fit my body perfectly! She really worked with the lace up the back and shoulders to make sure it fit just right. The neckline originally gave me a rash with the way it was made so tight where it hit my collar bone, she fixed it and it looks and feels so much better now. Scheduled an appointment for a wedding dress fitting and this woman was INCREDIBLY rude. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. Gave me 30 minutes and then said she had another appointment. I had to ask her to help me into my wedding dress. Asked me where I bought it. Was extremely judgmental. Told me there were no re-try's. Once she altered it, it would be done and good to go. Kept bringing up that she does miss USA and miss Illinois.....ok? I'm not sure what that has to do with altering a wedding dress but kudos to you. Asked her about taking in the waist and she said "too much work. don't lose any more weight". By the end of it I asked her when I could have it done and she said she was going on vacation and didn't have time to complete it. Would HIGHLY recommend going to another place. This was not worth MY 30 minutes. An absolute waste of MY time. read more

If you're in the Chicagoland area, I suggest going elsewhere for your wedding dress alterations. Update: I wouldn't waste my time writing and posting this review with an intent to defame your business if I didn't have a bad experience! I drove a half hour away to this cleaner's per recommendation of BHLDN Chicago themselves. When I dropped it off, no orange bead was on it. When I picked it up, giant orange bead need sewn on. I figured it was a poor attempt to fix a mistake during steaming or zipper reinforcement. There was a pack of beads on the tag as well with plenty of replacement beads. Hannah is an absolute angel!!!!! I had my fair share of ups and downs with my wedding dress (had to get a new one 3 months before my wedding during covid, ah!) I was terrified to give my dress to anyone in fear something would go wrong again. The 2nd dress needed A LOT of work. It was a few sizes too big, needed reconstruction in the bust, sleeve lining removed + resized, buttons replaced, and to top it off the entire back was sheer. Hanna was absolutely amazing! I had bought a bodysuit and a skirt from different seasons from BHLDN and Hanna was able to create my dream dress with the two items! While Hannah was gracious enough to agree to do my daughter's wedding dress and my mother of the bride dress, it was not the fairytale ending that I we expected considering the cost of the alterations. Looking at the pictures of my daughter's dress before and after, the line of the back of the dress had entirely changed. It was much higher than it was originally and I did not have the heart to tell my daughter. It still looked good, but that was one of the main reasons she bought the dress. She did do a lot of other alterations (hemming multiple layers, moving lace, replacing zipper, etc.), but the straps were also shortened and let out a couple of times, but they were made a little too tight the last time around. Unfortunately, one strap snapped off before the bridal party was even introduced. She still looked amazing for the ceremony, but for the cost, it was just a lot to take in. Sadly, I could not wear my designer mother of the bride dress that was quite expensive. I had the sleeves added and they just were not put on to my liking. The sleeve was just tucked under the shoulder of the dress so the lace at the sholder overlapped and you could visibly see it - like little wings. I just figured I would have to live with that. When I picked up the dress two days before the wedding, I had asked about a seam running across the front in a weird spot across my ribs and I was told I just had to pull the lining down. I tried it on again when I got home and it certainly was not the lining that needed to be adjusted. It was a thick seam that should have been at my waist that was raised to under my bust and went across my rib cage because she brought the length up from the shoulders and it modified the whole dynamic and fit of the dress - plus the seam ran on an angle. You could clearly see it through the lace and I did not have time to have it fixed. I even checked the designer's website and there is no visible seam on any of the colors of the dresses that ran across the ribs. I had a back up dress, but it wasn't what I wanted for her special day and I spent A LOT of money on alterations on a dress that I could not comfortably wear. During the whole experience we felt like we were inconveniencing her because all she kept reminding us at every visit was that our dresses were big big jobs, they are taking so much time and how time-consumming they were to alter. It made us feel uncomfortable - like we were a problem - but she had agreed to do it. All in, I am not doubting her talents as she has evidence of her work everywhere in the shop and she did do a lot of work on my daughter's dress, but I feel in this situation, she particularly rushed through my dress and I have now wasted over $1k on a formal gown that will never be worn. read more

I'll be honest, it's hard to pay $180 for alterations and still give a place 5 stars but it's what it deserves. I have the "honor" to be in a few weddings this year and I came here with a mess of a dress. It could zip, but it didn't look right, too much room in the cups, tight in the back and hips, long strap, just not good. These ladies completely re hauled my dress. They used one of the linings to add panels on each side then took in the cups and shortened the strap. They basically took it apart and put Humpty back together again. I also appreciated how they took their time and gave me a minimum of two fittings. If I needed anything else, I'm sure they would have been happy to do it. I brought the dress in before their New Year break, but they were still able to get it done a little over a month. I have another Bridesmaids dress that I will be bringing here as well and hopefully will cost me less. read more

48 days until "I do", and there I was staring at my dress, dumbstruck. I had no idea where to take it for alterations, besides the obvious of where I bought it. And THAT wasn't going to happen. I needed a bit of hemming, some gaudy beading removed, and a bustle. That's it. The dress fit me like a glove when I bought it in March, and luckily remained that way until the end of October. I wasn't about to shell out more for alterations than the price of the dress. Enter Brookdale Tailoring and Cleaners. Yelpers didn't lie about this place: Hannah is amazing! I am so glad I trusted her with making small alterations to my wedding dress. I'm honestly surprised I didn't think of it sooner, as I drive by it daily. I called on a Monday to make an appointment. Hannah answered the phone and told me I could come in that day after work. I didn't expect that, but I was so relieved! I rushed home from work, grabbed my dress, boots (for the ceremony), and custom Converse shoes (for the reception) and made my way over. Hannah greeted me immediately and had me go put my dress on. When I came out, she got to work, pinning and adjusting, pinning and adjusting. She worked quickly but with expert precision. For the bustle, she determined English would look better than French (I didn't know the difference until she explained it to me) and I agreed with her choice. Due to the height difference in my heeled boots and flat shoes, she had to remove four inches from the bottom of the dress. She quoted me $228, which included all of the work mentioned above (except for the bead removal, she didn't charge me for that) and also pressing the dress to get the wrinkles out. Not bad at all! During my appointment, she showed me pictures that she drew of beautiful dresses and suits (a true fashion designer, and very talented!) She also mentioned how she is the recommended tailor for Macy's and Banana Republic, which is noteworthy. Hannah assured me that my dress would be ready on time, and in all of the years she's be doing this she has NEVER been late. And I believe that. I paid $50 on the spot and she scheduled me to come back November 18th for the final fitting and pay the remaining balance. Take note- credit cards are not accepted, so plan accordingly. Finally the 18th came. Like a kid on Christmas, I could hardly wait to try my dress on again. I arrived back at BT&C; Hannah was waiting for me, dress in hand. I tried it on and when I stepped out to look in the full length mirror, I was thrilled. The beading was no longer there, and you couldn't even tell that it was in the first place. The bustle was perfect, and the bit of hemming she had to do was impeccable. I almost, ALMOST shed a tear of joy (I'm not a crier), but instead I profusely thanked Hannah over and over again. After I changed back into my street clothes and settled up with Hannah, she wished me well and made me promise to bring her a picture of me in my dress after my wedding (which she'll get, without a doubt). She also told me to bring the dress back for preservation for $35. $35! I think my dress store wanted to charge me three times that.... again, no thanks! I'll keep my business local, thank you very much! Definitely see Hannah and BT&C for wedding dress alterations. The prices are reasonable and Hannah was a joy to work with. I highly recommend her service especially if you are looking to have your most treasured/expensive clothing altered e.g. wedding dress, suits etc. I brought my half a size too small, silk (i.e. heavy!) wedding dress to her and she did a fantastic job with the corset, chest padding and bustle. THere were many options for a bustle, but she looked at my dress's fabric type and concluded the best one would be a french bustle. Hanna doesn't just recommend any solution; she customizes it for every individual. Best of all, she's reasonable in pricing and would throw in discounted dryclean when you use her tailoring service.
