I was looking around denver for a nice place to take my grandma for assisted / elderly living but as I drive by I saw that the building is releasing some kind of toxic/ poisonous gas into the air in the alleyway. It smells like literal death. Not only do I wonder about the well being of nearby residents but the elder residents themselves is my main concern here. I asked a nearby resident how often this occurs and they exclaimed that it happens weekly for hours at a time. Why on earth is this place allowed to release this poisonous gas into the air for hours on end and legally have people living at the residence who are inhaling this at the same time? Something is not right here. This needs to be reported to the EPA or some type of environmental agency. The people living here are probably uanware that this is happening. 0/5 read more

If I could give Brookdale Park Place 0 stars I would. In the 5 months my Mom has been there, she has lost 10 lbs & is seriously dehydrated. This is in accordance with her geriatrician. She is in the memory care unit, they lost her teeth a couple weeks ago for 6 DAYS & did not mention it until we were coming to pick her up for an appointment. I took her to the audiologist last week & she had an ear infection & a hearing aid tip stuck in her ear. They cannot bathe my Mom because she is difficult, well guess what! That's why we are paying you nearly $12,000 per month. And yes! We have a case open with the ombudsman. The new director Page Malmstrom does not listen, does not take any accountability & gives canned responses like "oh I'll talk to my team". And my favorite, "I've only been here for a few weeks". Save yourself the heartache and grief; DO NOT recommend or take your loved one to this facility. Once the ombudsman is finished with her assessment, my Mom is out of Brookdale Park Place. Tough chapter, hope this review helps you to really do your research. read more

WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM HERE!!! This is a horrible place to live or work. I spent several months working for these people...high turnover. The company is totally a for profit and not for the people organization. Management does not care about the residents or employees. For example: end of year bonus: they request their patients living there to donate, because they offer no company paid incentives. Food is not the healthiest (as a certified chef and nutritionist I have experience in this area). High amounts of sodium, and mandated low food cost requirements limit the quality and quantity. Health standards are practically non existent and only enforced if there is health inspector around. Improper food storage, often served at unsafe temperatures. read more

My loved one lived in Independent Living for years. We chose PP because there were different levels of care that he could moved in to when the time care. The new director is not qualified for dealing with dementia, and she refused to allow him to move from Independent living in to memory care, when it was clear he needed it. She said he was "not a good fit for the community"-- He was very nice, and all his neighbors liked him and enjoyed it when he played the piano. He is not pliant, but it seems that the staff should know how to deal with people with dementia and memory problems. We had to move him to a new facility, which was very traumatic for him. I am not impressed with the new director. read more

Today 9/8/14, there was an article in the New york Times about how retirement communities need to step up their culinary expertise and offerings. Unfortunately, Park Place is almost legendary in Denver for the mushiness and poor quality of the food. Hope someone there is paying attention. I hope to move in some day (I'm 70), but the food must improve! The food needs to move toward the three to four stars the rest of the place deserves. read more

My Mom moved into Independent Living in December 2019, she failed dramatically over the course of the next several months. Park Place Administration noticed the decline and would not help me at all. They would not respond to any emails, I asked for help and it was obvious to everyone that my Mom needed a higher level of care. In the final 2 weeks of my Mother's stay, I sent 6 emails to the Executive Director and not one was replied to, I have never felt so alone in my life. I talked with the sales director to get some help with my Move out and I was met with resistance, and I talked with the head of accounting and was met with more resistance. The only person in the entire establishment with any compassion is Ms. Dorton, but she is so far down the food chain in Brianna Westlake's fiefdom that she couldn't help either. Seriously, if you love your loved one - look elsewhere. Take this review to heart. read more

Not What It Used To Be At one time this was one of the best retirement/assisted living facilities in Denver. We don't know if the parent company, Brookdale Inc., decided to cut funding or if the management has gone downhill, but food quality has dropped considerably (eg. a chicken sandwich which consists of chicken, lettuce and bread - and nothing else); the cleanliness has declined (eg. blood stains on the elevator floor for days) and the upscale touches are gone (eg. room service uses flimsy napkins and sometimes plastic utensils). The soups used to be great and the vegetables were plentiful but no longer. Most the staff is still kind and attentive - communication breakdowns do occur- and the location is nice. It is a real shame that Brookdale Senior Living has decided to lower the standards that once were in place for their Denver Parkplace facility. The inordinate turnover of staff has resulted in a deterioration of the physical plant and a reduction of the services provided to the residents. The dining room offers a much lower quality in their menu choices. Caregivers are too frequently rotated resulting in residents never really getting to know them. In-room dining has been reduced to more of a picnic environment with paper plates, cups and plastic utensils. For the expense of staying at this facility one would think that management could do much better. read more

5 years ago, before Brookdale purchased Parkplace, and most of the related businesses in the greater Denver / Boulder area, Parkplace was a high quality, personal residence for seniors. Residents had personal relationships with key staff members, elegant independent living was the goal and the dining experience was good. Since Brookdale bought Parkplace, there have been non-stop changes; constant staff turnover (including 3 directors in as many years), very transparent marketing and promotion of services provided by personal aids (sometimes there are more staff in the lobby and on elevators than there are residents), lack of attention to detail or follow through and, terrible food!!! I'm sorry I recommended this place to my loved one . . . but of course had no way of knowing about the planned changes . . . Brookdale needs more competition in order to clean up its act! read more

My mother has lived here in independent/assisted living for well over a year now. They have lots of amenities, and a generally friendly and helpful staff (the turnover is very high). The facility is sophisticated and is getting minor face lifts. Its grounds, views and surroundings are beautiful. It's centrally located which is helpful for my sister who makes frequent visits. On the downside, there appears to be a shortage of QUALIFIED nursing professional and the organization of the staff needs lots of improvement; The employees seem confused or indifferent as to what the standard procedures are or whose is responsible for getting specific tasks done each day. Her apartment is not cleaned thoroughly. The quality of the food went from an "A" to a "B" ( the soups are still very good.) My mother says it is hard to get to know people unless you make the effort to sit with strangers at the dining room. Overall, Parkplace could be an "A" quality place if they spent a little more on staffing, supervision and FOLLOW THROUGH. read more

I was excited about moving my mom into Park Place 2 1/2 years ago because they allowed me to keep her personal 24/7 caregivers. We rented a 2 bedroom apartment in independent living. The marketing people were fantastic and did a great sales, I just wish that the rest of the staff members were as qualified. I ended up hiring one of my mom's caregivers to clean her apartment as the cleaning person provided by Park Place never did a good job. It seemed like all she did was vacuum, and was even caught sitting and watching TV in my mom's apartment. They experienced terrible service in the dining room. They would wait for very long periods of time to order their beverages, order their food, have their food brought to the table. They found it difficult to even get the attention of the wait staff. My mom's caregivers told me that the only time the staff members were friendly to them, and to my mom, was when I was there visiting. There were about three items that needed attention when she moved in, I made several requests but they were never completed. I finally got my teenaged son to do the tasks. Park Place erroneously charged my mom's account $20 for a lounge charge (cocktails), and I can't tell you how many times I met with accounting, month after month, to get this taken off of her bill. There were three separate occasions when my mom's caregivers needed medical help so they pulled the red cords in her apartment. Not once did this result in someone coming to the door right away. Every time, they waited and waited, having to call the front desk for help. I can not imagine what that would be like for an elderly person who had fallen and could not get to a phone. About 3 weeks before my mom's death, she had a bowel movement accident on the carpet outside of her bathroom. I made a request for Park Place to get the carpet cleaned but this never happened. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was that after my mom died, in February of 2014, not one person from Park Place contacted me to acknowledge her death or to give me condolences...NOTHING! (I received a personal sympathy card from Denver Hospice, hand signed by 12 different people and they only were part of my mom's life for a few weeks!) I contacted a woman in Brookdale HR who was extremely caring and listened to my entire list of complaints. She said that she would be contacting Park Place with my grievances. I assumed that at some point thereafter, someone from Park Place would be calling me but I never received any contact. I recently heard from a friend, who had a mother and an aunt living at Park Place, that Park Place used to merit the fabulous reputation that it had but that in the last several years it has gone way downhill. My recommendation to anyone looking for retirement living, do your homework and look past the pretty interiors, the delicious meal with great service that they provide before you sign the contract, and the talented sales personnel! read more
