This review is based on visits and tours made there to check out what they are all about. Michelle is likely your first point of contact since she is, I believe, the Director of "Sales and Marketing" (?). Kara I believe works for her and fills in for Michelle when needed. Both are fabulous, but Michelle really knows her stuff and understands what needs to be done if you are thinking of being part of their community. The place itself is really nice and elegant, with lots of energy and positive activities. Beautiful walking area outside for memory care residents. Trails right outside to walk, are abundant and also very nice as you walk thru the park right there/golf course. Different sized Rooms make up assisted living (AL) --studio, 1 BR, 2 BR. Memory care (MC) only has 2 sizes of studios--385 and 520 sq feet. The views you have contribute to the price as well. They also have Assisted Living with their Essentials support, provides a bridge between AL and MC. Food is pretty nice. Heritage week was being offered where unique foods from other areas around the world were being featured. Service was pretty great. Kind, compassionate when talking to residents. Beautiful set-up with dishes being offered on display as you walk in. Love the front desk team. All super nice and energetic. Very knowledgable and helpful. A nice sized theater for movies. Arts and crafts room. Library space. Outside deck/seats and tables with a very calming and beautiful view. Exercise class in the morning and other activities throughout the day. Live music/happy hour. Super fun all around. If you are looking for a super nice place where your loved one will be well taken care of, and feel safe and happy, this is your place.

From the moment we walked into Cherry Hills Assisted Living and Memory Care (CHAL), we knew it was special. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and the staff truly seemed to care about the residents. My aunt moved in about a year ago, and it was a huge adjustment - she had been living independently and had no plans to move. The team at CHAL went above and beyond to help her settle in and feel comfortable in her new home. They were patient, kind, and always took the time to make sure she was doing okay. Now, a year later, she's happy and thriving. She enjoys the staff and the beautiful facility. It's such a relief knowing she's well cared for and surrounded by people who genuinely care about her. We're so grateful to everyone at CHAL for making what started as a stressful transition into such a positive experience. I can't recommend them enough!

After visiting Sunrise, I was contacted by a representative at Brookdale. She was able to immediately schedule a tour of the facility since my dad was still in rough shape and going home was not an option. She was thorough and answered all of my questions and provided reassurance to my father. Brookdale has assisted living and rehabilitation on site. I received introductions to the department heads and knew this was a good spot to continue his rehabilitation. The facility itself is in an ideal location. We were allowed to customize his apartment so he could have privacy as well as room for family and friends to visit. His trip over in the Brookdale van was the "best ride he experienced since being hospitalized." (He had horror stories of transpiration to Kaiser appointments) I also had multiple friends and family compliment the facility. I was able to visit dad every day and even had lunch with him a couple times. His friends were visiting and eating with him too. One day he was working with Kaiser rehab and made it down to the piano and played a few measures for us. Cancer is a beast and my dad had an extremely aggressive form of kidney cancer, which sent him to the ER when the cancer fractured his spine. Although he was only at Brookdale for 10 days he did have a good stay and his pain meds were given in a timely manner. He lost his fight with cancer 14 days after leaving Centers at Lincoln. I can't thank Brookdale staff members enough for keeping him comfortable for what happened to be his final days.

After having experienced two grandparents in the general retirement area, and one of those grandparents later in memory care, I can say with confidence that the family chose well with Morning Star. Yes. There are always difficulties in communication, insurance, billing, and everything else that you might expect from dealing with any sort of business entity at all. This simply comes with the territory. But what makes me happy with how my grandparents lived out their time at Morning Star is the respect, dignity, and help that they got from a great staff. If my grandfather was feeling ill, the staff would bring soup to his room. If he needed help with medicine, there were services to assist in managing his pills. Finally when he died, the staff was helpful to the family in planning for my grandmother. In memory care, my grandmother was taken to every meal, she was brought to the daily activity session, and was never just left in her room to fade away. Her defiance was met with patience, and the staff always let us know about anything she might need (socks, pants, etc.) The last few years of someone's life is an uncomfortable topic. Death is an uncomfortable topic. But I'm so happy that Morning Star made my grandparents last days more bearable. While we've been fortunate that the weather has been mild, that's no excuse for such an extended delay. We were repeatedly told that repairs were "imminent," but those assurances proved false, and Management eventually admitted there was no clear repair plan in place. Temporary cooling and heating units were offered, but expecting residents with dementia or cognitive decline to safely use space heaters is a serious safety concern. To make matters worse, they even suggested that my 90-year-old mother move to another apartment -- an unreasonable and insensitive solution. Yet despite all this, they had no problem cashing her $8,000 rent check within 24 hours, with no offer of credit or adjustment for the ongoing lack of essential services.

We were told so many times that the HVAC would be fixed within a week, or soon, until they finally admitted they had no idea when it would be fixed and the problem seemed to be spreading throughout the facility. At first I would have given this place 4 stars because, basically, all retirement homes have this…read moreaspect to them, that it's where (to quote the sign on Homer's dad's home in The Simpsons) "the old and infirm bide their time awaiting the inevitable". It's not really the place you _want_ to be. So let me explain why I give it 5 stars. First off, my Dad is near the end of his life and has been living for 3 years in the memory loss ward where the door is locked with a key access. It sounds grim and boring doesn't it? But I spend a lot of time in here, and I like it here! It has toys and fun things on the floor for kids to play with and check out. It has lovely and fun staff. It has volunteers coming by playing violin and piano and guitar. Today they had the football game and then the basketball game on and it was a blast! Sure, there's something a bit surreal about all this sort of stuff -- it's a completely modern invention -- we dump our kids into schools for ten years, and then dump our aged into homes for ten years. But my 5 year old likes coming here, and that's saying a lot! They have free popcorn and coffee and a lobby dog. The food is good (today I had pork cutlet with potatoes and kale; yesterday I had lobster linguini with asparagus). The staff is great. The front desk and lobby are cozy and unpretentious. It's not expensive. With not being expensive, comes not being needlessly fancy -- it's kind of like grandma's house. For a while after a broken hip my Dad stayed at a place down the road, which is super fancy and like a ski lodge, where they had a therapy center. There was no fun in the place -- I think a lot of these places want you to think you aren't where you are. Also parking means a lot, and Sunrise at Orchard is small and parking close to the building is easy. Plus, it's right across the street from Panera so you can go grab food and right next to the library so you can go read a book. And if your parent has Alzheimers then you come back in an hour and they're so happy to see you again, it's always a brand new day!! Now my dad has a couple of days left. He moved back here from the hospital, into hospice care, back to his old room. They know him and love him. They come by the room to help him with things, and are always saying sweet things to him, "we love you Gunnar". And they bring me food and drink and don't care if I set up a mattress on the floor and spend the night. So I want to give them a big thumbs up. It's where my Mom wants to come when it's her turn to have somebody cook for her and just sit around doing crossword puzzles. Oh, and they have a GREAT large garden in the back, especially for the memory loss patients, so they can wander around, have a smoke or whatever. And there are 4 exits, all key-access, so you can come in and out in a few different ways (good 'feng shui'). For the 'younger' patients, they go on all kinds of outings, movies, restaurants. Good luck finding a place for yourself or for your parents!
