Exceptional find. Went here on a Sunday morning and somehow we were the only ones in this tiny little place. I got a mozerella tomato and pesto sandwich. Tiny hole in the wall serving up amazing food. There is no indoor seating but if the weather is tolerable, make a beeline for this unassuming corner shop. Stopped in for breakfast midweek. Ordered coffee and the fried egg with bacon. Very quick service and very hot food. The plate was huge - 3 eggs, sunny side up, with tons of bacon all served on top of sliced baguette and a small salad. This place was awesome, we were craving a sandwich after walking around and sightseeing. I guess I had already walked by this place earlier in the week and recognized their packed outdoor seating area. It's right on the canals and a perfect place to chill and relax (as long as you don't mind sitting in the sun). F ordered a warm and melty salami, onion sandwich that came with a nice big salad. I ordered a Brie sandwich that came with the baguette on the side with the brie resting on the side salad. This meal was one of the best in terms of value-per-euro, each "sandwich" came with a side salad and was under 7 euros--trust me finding a meal priced like this in Amsterdam is a feat. The baguette...ohmygod... it was so crisp and crunchy on the outside and the bread was squishy and sour on the inside. It reminded me of French baguettes that you find in Pairs and was definitely the best part of the meal. Service was eh, they wouldn't give us tap water which was standard everywhere we went during our euro-trip. We waited for quite some time outside for our bill and eventually walked in and reminded our waiter what we ordered so that we could pay. He did over charge me by 5 euros by accident but he was willing to acknowledge his mistake and correct it. I will definitely be back if I ever find myself in Amsterdam again. read more

Vegans beware - almost everything has milk or eggs in it, but I am sure you'll find something good. It's a family run business, which means a lot more personal service than you'd expect at almost any other eatery around that area. The prices are mind-bogglingly low. You could have a hearty lunch at under €10! I am a big fan of the cheese omelette. It comes with the standard warm bread and tons of salad. On the side are two little bowls of yoghurt sauce and a bowl of ketchup. The food is all freshly cooked and the amount of salad is amazing. I have definitely paid twice as much for half as much (and not quite as fresh/delicious) salad. Some other favorites are the tomato pesto sandwich and the plain omelette. Payment is cash only which I don't mind at all since that keeps the prices low. read more

Loved it! Had seen reviews on yelp and knew that I wanted to try during my trip to Amsterdam and I am so glad I found it on my first day! I got the fried eggs and bacon and my goodness!!! It was amazing! The arugula salad was a bit too strong for my taste but i later determined that's its an arugula thing as a whole here compared to the bland stuff we get in the states. Not horrible, just a friendly heads up. The order is pretty big but it does come with a LOT of bread. Being the minimal bread eater that I am, I finished my meal (with less than half the breas) and was satisfied, not horribly full even though I don't consider myself someone that eats a whole lot. I wasn't greeted very kindly or helpfully, and found the overall vibe to be quite grungy, to be honest. I ordered the burger, and having read the reviews on Yelp about it, was expecting something exceptional. To my disappointment, I didn't find it to be so. I thought it was good, but it doesn't stand out in my memory as anything special, and, at 9€, I thought it was meh. If you're looking for somewhere quick that has decent food, Broodje Bert is a good option, but there are better options in Amsterdam just right around the corner. I didn't return on my long stay, and I can't say I recommend this place other than if you like bread and greasy food. 3.5 stars still for being good at what it sets out to be. read more

This is an amazing place if you're looking for a good american style breakfest (at least i think) done dutch style. My advice would be to get the egg sandwich with aged gooda cheese. Just another one of the many beautiful places along the canal where you can enjoy a good drink and a good meal. Great prices, too (for Amsterdam)! I have no idea what the category "Do-It-Yourself Food" means, but I ordered a salami, onion, and cheese open-face baguette type sandwich and the lady got a brie, arugula, and tomato sandwich -- neither of which needed to be assembled ourselves. They were much more basic than they sound, but still pretty good! I had to take a knife and fork to mine but it didn't take away from the dish. See Niki C's pictures. Don't expect to get a seat inside because it is very tiny in there, but the seating along the canals is simply breathtaking (albeit a bit hot in the middle of the summer with clear skies). I could have spent hours sitting there after our meal. A little odd that they have a waitress to order from while you sit on the canal, but they don't have menus - so it'd require you to go inside to see the menu and then order outside (or inside i guess).
