This is an amazing place if you're looking for a good american style breakfest (at least i think) done dutch style. My advice would be to get the egg sandwich with aged gooda cheese. Just another one of the many beautiful places along the canal where you can enjoy a good drink and a good meal. Great prices, too (for Amsterdam)! I have no idea what the category "Do-It-Yourself Food" means, but I ordered a salami, onion, and cheese open-face baguette type sandwich and the lady got a brie, arugula, and tomato sandwich -- neither of which needed to be assembled ourselves. They were much more basic than they sound, but still pretty good! I had to take a knife and fork to mine but it didn't take away from the dish. See Niki C's pictures. Don't expect to get a seat inside because it is very tiny in there, but the seating along the canals is simply breathtaking (albeit a bit hot in the middle of the summer with clear skies). I could have spent hours sitting there after our meal. Service is nothing to write home about, bathroom is extremely small without paper towels, but hey -- we were well fed afterwards and didn't get sick. Best case scenario right there. read more

I had a really good sandwich (goatcheese and honey walnuts with a nice side salad), very inexpensive (7€). It was crowded but enjoyable to sit along the canal while eating. A little odd that they have a waitress to order from while you sit on the canal, but they don't have menus - so it'd require you to go inside to see the menu and then order outside (or inside i guess). I'd come back for a meal in my future trips to Amsterdam. read more

Great place for lunch. Had a "BLT". Not what I expected....was even better!!! Sliced Baguette with thick bacon, with a mixed salad greens with tomato wedges, and a great balsamic dressing. I was trying to find a quick, cheap place to eat with decent food. This place surpassed all of my expectations. I had an amazing mozzarella tomato pesto toasted baguette (for €5.50!!) that was so big, I could have easily split it with someone. It also came with a generous portion of salad. The menu was great for breakfast/lunch, and the employees were friendly and helpful. My new favorite sandwich shop in Amsterdam. Huge portion size for very little money. Mozzarella-Tomato-Pesto Sandwich was exceptionally good, served with lots of fresh salad. Coffee was alright, but the fresh orange juice wasn't the best. Although it was extremely busy we found 2 free seats, service was very friendly and not annoyed like in many other restaurants in amsterdam. This place is definitely a to do in Amsterdam, it's not over run by tourist (still extremely busy though) the inside is a bit tight when it's busy. The food is amazing and the price is extremely unbeatable and the portions are large, if you are on a tight budget this is the place to go. I had a healthy ham cheese and egg and it comes with a side salad for only €5.50 and it's was super delicious and super filling. Everything is cooked right there in front of you and it's all fresh ingredients, the staff are kind and extremely quick in the kitchen. The location is so great and if you eat outside you'll get a great view. We went here for breakfast and then later in the day we went on a walking tour and even out tour guide suggested this place. Would 11/10 recommend to anybody and everybody. read more

We came here for an early morning breakfast and it was delicious!!! We had the the sandwich with melted goats cheese, honey & walnut as well as the salami, cheese, tomato & onion. We also ordered coffee and hot chocolate, all for about 16 euros - quite reasonable in our opinion. This place is absolutely wonderful! Very small but 100% worth he wait. The food is so fresh and beautifully presented. We ordered the Chicken Fillet. So so good! Comes with a small baguette so you can make it into a sandwich. Also comes with their "sauce" which is really good too. Not sure what it is but delicious, nonetheless. We didn't even stick around to try the food after the terrible experience. ‍They came and took our order after twenty minutes of waiting outside in the windy and cold environment. They then proceeded to seat two girls that popped out of nowhere - because they allegedly called ahead and ordered their food. My husband and I both agreed that we would rather eat at home or at McDonald's than support a family owned and operated restaurant that treats its patrons - pregnant (big round and jolly) patron - this way. It's sad and disheartening that we didn't get to partake in the experience but part of dining out is the way you are treated by your host. *My husband wanted me to add that we never eat McDonald's but that's how upsetting this was. read more

Phenomenal place for lunch! A friend and I stopped in for lunch and were blown away with how fresh and good all the food tasted. I literally could have chosen anything on the menu and have been happy, which made it such a hard decision to order; it all looked so good!!! I ended up having the crab salad sandwich, which came with a salad. It was perfect! Portions were perfect, the taste was perfect, on and on. The service was great too, as the server was very attentive and polite. They are in a tight space and do not have much seating, so I would presume it is hard to get a seat sometimes, but be patient, as it will be worth the wait. The small space actually made it kind of fun and cozy in the fall. Anyway, I will continue to come here the next times I am in Amsterdam, and highly recommend coming here to others! read more
