Having a private event tonight... aww shucks
    Kerry B.

My first experience with Broken Window was a little different. Came early evening on a Saturday night and they were closed for a private event. I was a little baffled so I walked around the corner to another Brewery. I did make a note to visit next time I was in Old Town Winchester.. Fast forward to the next Friday evening and hurray,, they were open. Broken Window reminds me of a neighborhood bar with great craft beer.  What I liked most was the family atmosphere.  There were humans of all ages, kids, families, college age, etc.  They have both inside and outside seating and there was a table of people outside with the heating lamps on. Our beertender was Julian, hope I spelled his name right.  He was very attentive and for a place which was half packed, he handled the Friday night beer crowd expertly.  The BEER: Ranger Stout 7.2% ABV... nice strong Stout, like expression coffee Art Star Porter 6.2% ABV... liked it, was less subtly nutty Sometime Next Week Cream Ale 5.5% ABV... Good northern style cream Ale At Wits End Belgian Wit 5% ABV... a little more hoppy than I would have expected, still the Belgian flavor came through Gentle Twenty America Pale Ale 6.2% ABV... Wow!!! Piney goodness Fly Casual IPA 6.1% ABV... I liked it 2GA Amber Ale 5.6% ABV... solid semi sweet and good Only the End Pilsner 5.8% ABV... someone put love into this Pilsner What a solid selection of good beer.   The beers here are typical of a North Eastern flavor palet.  They also have hard seltzer. And the prices are so reasonable. I was surprised the place wasn't packed. They don't have food, but you can order in. I will definitely be returning. Good beer at reasonable prices. I'm in!

This is a nice place located near the walking section of downtown Winchester. The lady at the bar was friendly. There was limited outdoor area but there was nice seating inside. The place is also dog friendly as there was one in there. We did a small sampling but couldnt stay long as we had somewhere to be. I would like to come back here and hang out.

Broken Window Brewing is another recent entrant into the Bonanza of Northern Virginia region of craft breweries. It's located in downtown Old Town Winchester. Your best bet is to find a local parking garage and park there. Not a lot of street parking available. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and ordered up a tasting flight of all of their brews. Here they are - along with my Untappd ratings: Do Me A Solid Raspberry Wheat Ale (6.6% ABV) (2.25 stars on Untappd) Sometime Next Week Cream Ale (5.9% ABV) (2.25 stars on Untappd) Moron Brothers Amber Ale (5.9% ABV) (3.5 stars on Untappd) Mike The Red Irish Ale (5.2% ABV) (2.75 stars on Untappd) Mass Hysteria IPA (6.4% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) Left Overs IPA (7.5% ABV) (4 stars on Untappd) I found three of the first four brews to be rather average. The Moron Brothers Amber Ale was enjoyable. BUT - the two IPA's were outstanding! I'd drink a pint of either of those any day! Delish! The tasting room is cozy! Nice ambiance! Service was good! Can't wait to come back and see what else they brew up! Definitely worth visiting! #BrokenWindowBrewing

I have not been to Broken Window brewing before. I happened to be in Winchester and thought I would try a local brewery and this is what seemed close and had a nice look to it. I would definitely go back and recommend trying if you are in the Winchester, Virginia area. Broken Window is small, but the atmosphere is excellent. It is very old town with beautiful beautiful brick walls. The tap guy is very friendly and can tell you a lot about the brews on tap. There is free popcorn to go along with what you are drinking. It is dog friendly and the small group of patrons on Saturday late afternoon all seemed to appreciate a dog's presence. I saw a few people with young kids and had my teenage daughter with me - they had soda to accommodate date the under 21 needs. I had an IPA. It was good but not as hoppy as I like. Nonetheless, I reiterate, it was a good well-brewed beer. My wife had a cream ale. I am not a big cream ale fan, but it also was nicely balanced and had the right amount of malt. My recommendation stands - I suggest trying Broken Window Brewing!

Stopped in here for the first time. It's the name that caught my eye. The beer was excellent. I had the the lager and my husband Pale Ale. It is a wonderful looking place as well. Will definitely stop here again when we are the area.

Super friendly staff! Friendly patrons! Great beer--multiple varieties to choose from...would make anyone happy. Owner/manager allows and loves dogs. Definitely check them out if you're in the area!

    Good fresh beers.

Maybe 12 people seated in the entire room. Took our seats... we were approached after 10 mins. Menus. Waited another 10 minutes. Bartender asks for our order. We ordered our food and he responded, "I wanted your drink order". Really?! Ordered four glasses of water and two apps. We asked for one app to be divided on two plates, bartender said "I'm not gonna do that. They're (kitchen) busy". We sucked down our food and water, asked for the check twice due to being on a time constraint. Dude never acknowledged. My husband finally stopped the bartender, asked for his name. "Brian/Bryan" while walking away. We left enough cash on the bar to cover our bill with a generous tip just so we could get out of there. Worse dining experience we've had an extremely long time. Bryan/Brian's attitude was nothing shy of being inconvenienced. Won't ever return!

We came in to get drinks to go with our food (we got food from the food truck outside "Firebox"). The food from Firebox was good and it was a generous portion for the price. The drink options that were not beer were limited, and half of those options on the menu weren't available. My partner got the berry chocolate stout and said it was "pretty good". We hoped to sit outside, but the only available table had broken glass all over it from a busted door. It does have convenient parking and I liked the industrial decor. The service was good and the lady was very nice. One thing I will point out is that one of our glasses had pink lipstick on it from a previous customer. But if you only want beer and a place to chill - it might be just right for you.

I also appreciate the ample outdoor seating available. Always a big plus for me, even if the outdoor area is really just tables set up on the sidewalk overlooking the parking lot - as it is in this case. The service was fine. It wasn't crazy busy there but the bartender had a little edge to her like we were more on an annoyance than a patron. They have a refill club where you can buy a mug and get your name printed on it with discounted refills. Again I appreciate that kind of thing, but the bartender seemed way more interested in some of the regulars than us. Just the vibe she gave off that night I guess. And lastly the beer...it's solid. Not great, but solid. Lots of darker beers which is fine for me personally, but the darks outnumbered the IPAs, pilsners, etc the night we were there. I'd expect a little more variety. Still, it's good enough that I'd go back next time I'm in Cumberland, but not so good that I'd make a special trip out of my way. Likewise the Buffalo chicken flatbread that had perfect flavor and texture would have topped the charts with a simple addition of blue cheese crumbles. What is good food if executed with a little tweak could be food worth remembering. We also witnessed an unhappy table and a server unable to appease them - the entire situation left us feeling uncomfortable where if servers are trained how to deal with "Karen" customers the dining experience could be better for everyone. Three stars for our experience, this was a road trip visit, so the likelihood of a return visit is unlikely.
