You could walk right by Broken Robot and totally miss it. Your life would be incomplete if you made that mistake. It is not big, but it more than makes up for it with great coffee and great food! I tried a drip coffee (Flux Caffeinator) it was smooth and flavorful. The breakfast sandwich was delicious too. It doesn't come out quick, but it's worth the wait. The English muffin was one of the best I've had. The egg was made well and the cheese was nice and creamy. Great service, great coffee, great food, and a great location! This was so amazing!

10/10 coffee shop. I feel so lucky to live close to this shop, but even if you don't you must stop by.... The shop is small and clean, run by a duo of really kind women who I love chatting with. Their espresso roast is Colombian (my personal favorite) and DELICIOUS. They're syrups are mostly Monin brand and every drink I get tastes phenomenal. Every damn time they NAIL it. Not to mention they have the best prices of any shop I've visited thus far in Portland area. But I would shop here even if it was more expensive, because they are that good. So much good to say, & only moved to the neighborhood a month ago. Will be a long time customer!

The pastries at this place are ridiculously good. The Nutella roll especially slaps. Lisa, the owner, works so hard and it's a family labor of love. I think they even roast the coffee. This coffee shop is the essence of community. Two blocks from Dutchies on Holgate...nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

We all got chai. The nice women who were working there warned us that the chai is a little spicy. Was def more seasoned than any other chai I've had. Very delicious, very worth it

Asiago pastry and maple-covered croissant-esque pastry.

The vibe: In town on a gig and swung by for a pick-me-up based off of reviews. It doesn't look like they do sandwiches anymore, or at least they don't have a sandwich menu available and I was too shy to ask. They do have bagels and an assortment of pastries that the barista walked me through so I could get one sweet and one savory. She seemed really kind and spoke to the customers ahead of me with a level of familiarity--following up with them about travel plans, and the customers asking her for life updates--made me wish I had a regular place to go like this where I live! The order: **Savory asiago pastry with rosemary--honestly so good. I'm more of a breakfast sandwich guy but this really hit the spot. Heated it up back at home and it instantly became a crispy, buttery delight. **Sweet croissant-esque layered pastry with brown sugar in the middle and topped with a maple glaze and cute sprinkles. I. Did not think I would love this as much as I did. It's like all the best parts of a doughnut and a croissant rolled into one and it is divine. I will say this felt very sweet to me, not cloying, but depending on the bite leaned more toward dessert than breakfast pastry for me personally! **Dirty oatmilk chai. Spicy. Milky. A taste of honey(?). Delicious. Usually when I order a chai, even when asked if I want sweet or spiced, they end up being a bit too sweet for me. This. This is a spiced chai. Didn't get to see the barista make it so not sure if it's a pre-made or house-made blend, but it's fantastic. I believe she pulled three shots for the dirty part of the latte, which is fine for me but might surprise some folks accustomed to the typical two. The ONLY downside: The only critical thing I can think of is the wait time. I had a break and wasn't in a rush to get out of there, but I imagine if I went there on a lunch break or a 15min break it might be a tad slow for me to feel comfortable. HOWEVER. It was one person running the joint, she was incredibly kind and provided the people in front of me with pastry options (and then did the same with me), and the upside is she seems really connected to her customers, which is pretty special I think. If you're looking for a quick in and out coffee experience I'm not sure this is it, but I bet you could find a Dutch Bros nearby.

The space itself is smaller and intimate, so bringing a larger group than about 4-5 people might not be ideal. The ambiance definitely gave Italy vibes, for sure. The chicken liver mousse was a good consistency, paired with the figs gave a nice balance between sweet and savory. The steak frites was a classic, steak was a good portion and cooked medium rare, but I'm sure if you wanted it more cooked through, you could make that request. The fries were definitely a standout, great texture and the garlic flavor gave a good contrast to the steak. My favorite dish was the dessert, the flaky crust gave a nice texture to the cream insides. I'm a huge passionfruit fan, so once I saw it was on the menu, I knew I had to try it. It didn't disappoint and I would definitely come back just for this dish alone. Overall a solid experience and would recommend people to try Canard out at least once!

The beverages were however very nice, and I recently had the cobbler dessert and it looked amazing and tasted better. We had the coffee (Extracto, love.), I had a really good hef and my mother a very well balanced Bellini that I was very pleasantly surprised with trying. From what I saw, the lunch sounds very good and I'd be more apt to recommend folks give that a shot if they happened to be going there too. I'm not sure if I'd recommend as a must go stop. Vibe wise, the ambience is overall really nice. I think having rolled flatware, even with just upgraded napkins, would better complete the aesthetic you initially see and feel. This would also connect with the price point of the food and quality of the beverages. As a fellow server, on that note I would expect more consistent stronger visual appearance standards with servers. (Sorry guys! But some of you looked great!) Overall, I'd definitely join a friend for coffee and lunch over there in the future. Just wouldn't be my top pick for a celebratory brunch or intimate dinner with a date or friends and fam.
