I was a patient here off and on for 15 years. Dr. Ciaverelli is kind and caring, and does not upsell you on procedures. They also offer retainer replacement, and if extra procedures are needed, their referral endodontist is incredible. I worked with hygienists for the last few years who took their time, used the numbing gel for my problem areas, and are easygoing. The hygienists are for the most part awesome. I have teeth sensitivity and eventually found the traditional cleanings with metal instruments too uncomfortable even with gel. In my recent visit, the hygienist did not use enough gel, did not ask how I was during the cleaning, and did not take breaks, despite my documented sensitivity. Her bedside manner was frankly terrible as she also chastised me for my high blood pressure. My pressure is only high at the dentist; this hygienist was too condescending for me to bother explaining. The dentist was also not in the office to review my x rays which just added to the poor experience, which I do want to stress is an outlier for the care here. I have decided to switch to a new office with more modern cleaning methods and hopefully more understanding regarding whitecoat anxiety. My suggestion to new patients is once you have a hygienist you like, stick with them. Caitlin is a new hygienist, and she is very caring and takes her time with the cleaning. The front office staff are also lovely and made the transition to my new dentist a breeze. Overall, I enjoyed my time as a patient here, but am excited by new advances in cleaning that will hopefully be more comfortable for me. read more

Dental hygienist Shelly is the best I've ever had before, she is so gentle but thorough at the same time, and a lovely person. She is a rare gem. Dr. Ciaverelli gave me hope today for a procedure to help with the aesthetics of two teeth that have died. Other dentists I've seen told me I would have to pull them and put in implants and just left me feeling discouraged. Dr. Ciaverelli is laid back and kind, does not push any procedures but gives you information and options to consider. I saw the front office staff person sit next to an elderly patient in the wait area for 10 minutes and listen to her talk about her husband who has been very ill. This is an unusually caring and compassionate dental office and I think a rarity these days especially for a large urban city. Staff are friendly, well trained, responsive to questions, and helpful. Office is easy to access, very clean, equipment is modern and appears maintained. Office smells good, unlike some other dental offices I have visited. I have had cleanings and one extraction. Dr. Explained what he was going to do and did it. It was 1st extraction in over 40 years. Brodie Oaks Dental may not look like much due to the small size of the practice- but don't be fooled by this! They have made improvements and done some upgrades through the years. One aspect that hasn't changed much is Dr. Ciaverelli being one of the best dentists in Austin. He is very skillful and sets you at ease. Also, he won't try to upsell you on unnecessary dental work. I got a general cleaning done here and supposedly got two cavities fixed so imagine my surprise when I go to get Invisalign a week later at Westlake Premier Dentistry and discover that I have two cavities that went unnoticed with one almost hitting my nerve!! I've been going here now for a few years and I love it. I even moved to New Braunfels and I still make the trip here twice a year. Yeah it's not huge and super modern but Dr. Ciaverelli is really good and doesn't dupe you into work you don't need to milk your insurance company. Last I heard he was taking over as owner of the practice and planning updates to the office but I don't base my review on cosmetics and bathroom locations. I've been to more dentists than I can remember in Austin during my 10 years living there and I find most dentists to either be creepy or they tell you things so they can perform unnecessary procedures. I love my dentist, and not a lot of people can say that! I saw Dr. Ciaverelli after a 5 year hiatus from my last dentist in Corpus Christi. I was apprehensive about going to the dentist after waiting that long, because at my last dental appointment (in high school) the Dr. told me I had 5 cavities. I had my appointment with Dr. Ciaverelli and it turns out I only had 1 cavity. He showed me some other spots on my x-rays that could be potential cavities, but might get better or worsen over time. I always had a nagging suspicion that my old dentist was taking us for a ride, but what's a teenager going to do? Filling the cavity was very affordable (even with crappy insurance) and Dr. Ciaverelli and I had a great chat about the Old 97's and Rhett Miller's suicidal history while waiting for my mouth to go numb. The dental hygienists are wonderful too! Overall a great atmosphere, I can't wait to go there and be picked at drilled on again! P.S. I guess it's weird that the bathroom has a keypad...but is that really a reason to stop seeing an awesome, trust-worthy doctor? read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Ciaverelli (Dr. Mike) for over a decade. Dr. Mike does a great job communicating with his patients and fully explains what he is doing if a filling or other care is necessary. The practice is small and has a family owned feel. They do not "upsell" you on cleaning treatments like many of the larger practices are known to do. The office is clean and the staff is friendly and efficient. I'm not a fan of having dental work done, but I feel very comfortable going to Dr. Mike and would highly recommend him to family, friends, and anyone looking for a good dentist. read more

I've been here twice now. Both times the hygienist noticed a cavity forming during my cleaning. After, the Dr. came in, glanced at my teeth for less than 5 min, & said everything was good to go. When the hygienist mentioned the cavity, the Dr. Said she was right. Why wasn't he able to spot it either time? Rushed job. When I asked about getting it filled, they were unable to do so either time. Now it's time for my third cleaning. I call to confirm & ask if I could schedule time after to get the cavity filled because I know it's still an issue. Again, they are unable to do so. I'll be switching dentist. No reason to spend money somewhere that can't set aside 15min for a client. Additionally, the office is old and outdated. read more

While this is not a fancy new dentist office with coffee and electronics in the waiting room, the people are really nice and take good care of you at a very reasonable price. I've never waited more than 5 minutes after stepping in the door. Shelly is a thorough and gental hygienist. The other hygienist is also really good; she cleans my kids teeth. A routine cleaning became a painful nightmare. The hygienists work with heavy, medieval x-ray equipment which at any time can fall and smash into your face; this felt like torment, and it lasted much longer than it might have with a darn machine that was made in this decade. There really aren't adjectives to describe being under the mercy of faulty equipment. I have had x-rays done before, even in a simple clinic, which were painless and routine. Not here. Every film felt like needles sticking into my gums - my eyes couldn't help tearing, my anxiety about going to the dentist was confirmed. And, after all this the doctor stood behind me to introduce himself. I had to turn around to meet his eyes after a minute or two. Michael Ciaverelli, DDS had professional and gentle demeanor as did the rest of the office staff. But the visit was ridiculously overpriced. I often see ads running, same treatment for 59 dollars as opposed to the 225 I paid here. Sometimes you just don't get your money's worth. I would not have expected less if I went straight to a dental school. I would have been better off in every way. read more

From the first call in scheduling to the very end of my initial visit, these ladies along with Dr. Michael Ciaverelli really made me feel like I was taken care of. My hygienist Janis was amazing to me. I spent most of time with her and she really made me comfortable and at ease. She really made an effort to show her passion for it as she really emphasized dental education and preventative care to me.
