Let me just start by saying I was super excited to try this place! The food and restaurant were lovely. Unfortunately, lovely food that lacks flavor is way too common in Portland it seems. Starting off with an hour and a half wait out in the cold ,yes, you must stand there, they confirmed they do not call the number on the waitlist even though they ask for it. My group of 4 was excited to finally get a table. The excitement died down after a good 45 minutes of waiting on our food, and completely vanished once we realized not a single one of the poached and sunny side up eggs we'd ordered were runny. I'm talking completely dry. The Lost Eggs in creamed spinach unfortunately just turned out to be over-poached eggs on top of sautéed spinach, not at all what is described in the menu. On top of that I watched the chef and server completely acknowledge to each other that at least one of the eggs they served to us was dry, not realizing as I watched the interaction that it was my food they were talking about. As another review mentioned, the plastic ties they use on their silverware seem tacky and wasteful, especially considering they're about to charge an undisclosed 20% auto gratuity when they bring you your bill. Had this not been a birthday outing for myself, I'd have chosen to speak up about the food, but didn't want to put a damper on my day. The service was friendly and just the right amount of attentive without being intrusive. I ordered the six Aebleskivers that are served with a lemon curd and lingonberry jam. These were excellent. My mother-in-law has been making these for decades and hers are delicious, but these are much better (please don't tell her). These are not just balls of pancake. The outside is a little crispy but also a little flaky. The inside is really fluffy. I highly recommend them. I also got a dark hot chocolate. Normally I would t get hot chocolate anywhere, but I've never seen dark chocolate advertised. It was worth it. I was interested in trying some lefse, but the social featured goat cheese which is a no go for me. My friend had a pulled pork hash the looked really good and he polished it all off, so he clearly liked his choice as well! The tables in the restaurant are really close together, which I don't love, but since it's such a small space, the volume is loud enough that you really can't even hear the people close to you. I've never had a Scandinavian brunch and my first experience did not disappoint. We had the lemon danish pancake balls to start and it was so fluffy and nicely paired with their sauces. I ordered the smoked trout hash and it was delicious and savory. I also ordered a side of bacon and espresso martini to accompany my dish and I highly recommend this combo. Our servers were fantastic as well, making sure we were well taken care of. Just a heads up though, the wait can get long so be sure to get there early and put your name on the list. Went for brunch on a Friday and the wait was approximately an hour. There are some shops on the same block that you can peruse while you wait. They also have a help yourself drip coffee cart at the entrance. Just hold on to your cup! Was recommended to come try the food here while visiting Portland and it did not disappoint. We waited a while for our table for four, definitely over 30 minutes and we still ended up just sitting outside in the cold lol. I do not really blame them though because it is a small place and it looked like there were only two servers on the floor. I had the Lost Eggs with a side of skivers. I have never had any sort of Nordic or Scandinavian food but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! It was a little pricey but it was still delicious, especially the skivers. They practically melt in your mouth and are even more tasty when you put the lingonberry jam on them. Despite the long wait, the food made it all worth it. Cute brunch spot in the Mount Hood area. We went during a weekday so it wasn't that busy but we heard from friends that weekends get very busy. Service is a little bit slower, but expected in a small town. They have seat seats inside and outside. And you can wait in the hotel lobby, which is a nice quaint area with a fireplace. Portland never disappoints. This was a breakfast spot I'd been wanting to try for a long time. On our way down, my husband and I were debating where to eat, and curiosity about a Swedish-style breakfast led us here--and I'm so glad it did. The moment we walked in, I fell in love with the atmosphere. There was a quiet warmth in the air. While the kitchen was busy and energetic, the dining room felt calm and peaceful. The servers struck the perfect balance--friendly without being overbearing, professional without feeling distant. We started with coffee and orange juice, and even the coffee stood out--rich and genuinely good. We shared the potato pancakes as a side. My husband ordered the Swedish Hash, and I went with the Lost Egg with Mushrooms. We finally got to check out Broder Cafe for breakfast this weekend and overall it was very tasty. We got there at 10:10am and were seated at 11:12am. The wait was the biggest detraction. We split the Danish pancakes (which look like large donut holes), the hidden eggs w mushroom and leeks, and the potato pancake. All in all... I had a great breakfast here this morning. Every part of it was 5/5. Very welcoming friendly service. Fantastic food with new / unusual things to try. And great coffee that you cod take with you. I had two egg breakfast with potato sausage (meat based with potato inside) and rag muffin which I never had before and enjoyed. I also had rye toast. The condiments were all excellent as well. Unique dishes! Everything I've had here is delicious, but I'm particularly fond of the Lefse (potato crepe). They usually have a weekly Lefse special, and every variation I've tried has been fantastic! It's super savory & satisfying without leaving you feeling weighed down. I m not big fan of regular pancakes but if I will go to Portland again, I ll definitely get back her just for the Danish pancakes Top freaking notch Crepe was good , loved the texture but mushroom inside throw me off a bit. Dont really know what was wrong but just didnt like the taste. I also tried the Salmon cakes (i never order Salmon for myself) and I was impressed! Solid tasty meal here! A local brought me & I was impressed with the food. They indoor seating was limited but we arrived at 1pm so lucked out with seating inside on a warm day. We ordered the lefse special & Danish pancakes since those were the unique dishes. I went to college in northern MN where there were student lefse sales. I'm used to eating them plain with a little bit of butter & sugar. I thought the lefse special here was super flavorful with the sage sausage but I felt I couldn't truly appreciate the lefse this way. It was more like a fancy stuffed burrito, but still a satisfying dish. The star was the Danish pancakes. The inside was fluffy goodness & came with some great sauces. Those are a must-get! Wow! This was an exceptional breakfast/brunch experience. We headed over to the Broder Cafe Monday morning around 11 and there was a wait of about 30 minutes. We put our name down on the list outside and poured ourselves a cup of strong and excellent coffee to drink gratis while waiting for our table! I have not seen a place offer coffee to those waiting for a table in YEARS!! It was a beautiful morning, and there were plenty of surrounding benches and tables for waiting while drinking coffee and socializing. That is to say, even the waiting felt like the experience had already started. Once our name was up, we were offered an outside or inside table. We chose the inside and tucked into a corner table for two. Our server was over in minutes and we started with a smaller order of aebelskivers, for our second time in PDX! These fluffy, round donuts (of a sort) came quickly with a side of homemade lemon curd and lingonberry jam and were great! For my main, I ordered the lost eggs with ham and my husband went with a potato and beet hash with eggs, I don't remember the name. The lost eggs were so good. Two eggs baked on creamed spinach with a panko and cheese topping. There were options for ham or mushrooms, I chose delicious ham but if to return, I would go with the mushrooms next. I was also able to sub in Nordic Rye with this, no problem! My husband's hash dish looked beautiful, but I was honestly too stuffed to go there. We wrote in a waitlist and waited around. How we found this cafe was during our planning trip to Portland. We looked around for lunches, and Broder Cafe popped up as one; we were immediately fascinated with the colorful dishes. Returning to the wait, which was long. We ended up waiting an hour for our seats. The cafe is smaller inside, and while there are benches outside, generally it's a small cafe with a few seats. The staff accommodate the wait time, there is a coffee and water station the guests can have a drink. Once we were called in, we sat near the window area. Inside, the cafe has a comfortable, cottage atmosphere. It's a narrow building, with the long kitchen and taking half of it. The menu is unique; the menu name is not in English but the description is. This took some chats with the staff to get the correct item we wanted to eat. I was a tad lucky on my part because I learned a variant of this language, so some of the spelling looked similar. We ordered the fisk bord (the dish that set our decision to visit) and the pytt I panna (a dish in a skillet with a beautiful sunny-side eggs). The tea arrived first and then a couple minutes later the two dishes arrived at the same time. Interesting story, the fisk bord was supposed to be my relative's dish and I had hte Pytt I Panna. From the photo, it looked colorful and contained many little plates, it's their favorite eating style (like bento). However, they also thought the dishes were mostly vegetable because the colors were so bright. We didn't know that majority of the dishes contained fish. We discovered this when we were reading the menu, and in that moment we swapped dishes because I love eating fish. The fisk bord dish is like a bread and spread dish. My favorite was the pickled herring; never tried it before but I loved how tender and even the fat was. My second favorite was the shrimp salad (my relative also liked this one). Initially, I was worried that I was going to not have enough bread to eat the rest of the sauces, but the ratios were balanced. What I didn't expect was how filling the dish was; I was so full at the end of the meal. While I enjoyed this dish, I can see it might not be the same experience for someone who is trying fish for the first time or not a fish fan. Similar to our experience, if you are willing to try, bring a friend who can eat fish and you can try a piece. The Pytt I Panna was a great lunch dish. Comfortable portions with mini potato pieces hidden under a sheet of two sunny-side up eggs. The potato was seasoned well that mixing the egg with it kept it from being bland. A little nice experience I had at the cafe was when we were seated in, the music changed to Takeuchi Maria. Worst birthday brunch ever. They're lucky that their food is HALF decent when we came here weeks ago. Today, we came here at 12:22, told us it was an hour wait, and sat us at 2pm. After 15 minutes of acting busy by clearing the customers dishes next to us, they noticed we were ready, but chose to ignore taking our order. At first I said, "maybe this just isn't our servers" until I realize they were the only 2 there. Even the table of 5 who were on the second page of the waitlist got their orders taken. They charge gratuity because they know their service is lacking and is poor. They call people's name off the waitlist, but tell them their table isn't even ready yet. What is the point, hello??! Even when they sit you down, food takes like half an hour to come out. As someone who works in the food industry, I understand urgency. However they show no sign of it. And their solution to the tipping question is my least favorite: Customers are still expected to tip, but the minimum is 20%. Our waitress had some great suggestions and answered all our questions about the menu-- she was knowledgeable. The danish pancakes are a must order, the lingonberry jam is SO GOOD. My friend is gluten-free and she was able to find a couple of things on the menu she could have. You can get GF toast with your entrees too. In addition to her entrée, she got the potato pancake on the side. I tried it and I didn't love it, I might be crazy, but i swear I was tasting anise/licorice in it. It just wasn't the traditional potato pancake flavor I normally like! My other friend ordered the fish board, which is usually more of a shared menu item. She really just wanted a sample platter of a ton of things so she went for it. In hindsight, she wished her she didn't, it was way too much fish for one person lol. She also said it should've come with more bread or crackers. I ordered the Swedish hash with smoked trout. Holy crap I could eat that every day! I was nervous about the pickled beets and got them on the side, but ended up adding them in and really liked the flavors of everything together. The wait was long but we walked over to Clinton Street Coffee for a cup of tea while we waited. The staff was terrific and very friendly/helpful with our selections. The interior seating area is cozy and cute, but we definitely smelled like cooking oil/fry smell when we left. Consider the outdoor seating if you're sensitive to such things. Pretty sure you can pour yourself some coffee while you wait, too! Indoor or outdoor, and the spot in Clinton is so chill it's a great vibe either seating you choose. **April 2024: Monday Late Morning Visit** Fancy IKEA Food! lol Portland, has some really cool food spots and I wanted to add this one to my itinerary. My friend and I visited on Monday morning and found street parking. The area is pretty hipster and funky. There were a couple of people dinning indoors and we sat near the window. After pondering over the menu for a bit we decided on the following items. Lost Eggs ($16) - Soft Baked Eggs, Creamed Spinach, in a cast iron skillet - it was good. We picked the mushroom version, but I agree if that the ham version might give a slightly more saltier taste to it/ Ableskiver ($10) - Danish Pancake Balls with Ligonberry Jam and Lemon Curd - delicious, just as pancake balls should be. Smoked Trout Radicchio Salad ($16) - Winter Radicchio with House Caesar Dressing; maybe this is the least Scandinavian, but I really enjoyed this as I hadn't had much leafy greens on this Pacific North West trip. I stopped by on a recent Saturday morning for brunch with a friend. We arrived about 15 minutes before they opened, and were able to get our name on a list, so we did not have too much of a line. However, if we had been any later, our wait may have been frustrating -- there was quite a line. While we waited, they have self-serve coffee ($4.50). Honestly, it was way too strong for me. The flavor profile was just not great. For breakfast, I tried the Trout Hash (7/10). It was good -- a bit salty, but kind of unique and I'm glad I tried it. My friend and I also shared some Norwegian pancake balls with lingonberry (9/10), which kept their interior temperature quite hot for several minutes, and were fluffy and a great way to accentuate the butter and jam. overall: 4/5 food: 4/5 service: 5/5 ambiance: 4/5 i took my mama out for brunch on a monday morning, and Broder Cafe was lovely! street parking was relatively easy to find, and upon arriving to the restaurant the place was bustling with people enjoying their meals. thankfully, we didn't have to wait long and were immediately welcomed by warm staff. we ordered two cups of hot drip coffee- which were accompanied with sugar cubes and cream (so cute!)- the forlorade agg with shaved smoked ham, and the breakfast sandwich with smoked ham. both of the dishes were AMAZING, but definitely filling. the forlorade agg came with a side of buttery toast which we used to dip in the eggs and creamed spinach. my only qualm is that i wish there was more toast or a different vessel to use to dip the sauce because it was that good. as for the sandwich, it was smoky, comforting, and delicious; exactly what was needed to fuel us through the rest of our day. overall, we had a wonderful experience at Broder and i still think about this cafe some time. the warm staff, cozy atmosphere, and tasty food make me excited for my inevitable return. i can't wait to be back! read more

Aside from the wait, the food was refreshing and comforting. The portions were just right. The price is fancy-brunch-price but not exorbitant. The server was so sweet to explain the menu to us and although they were a bit short staffed we weren't rushed out. Small cafe so be prepared to wait to be sat. Everything I had was delicious- my faves were the Evleskiver (pancake balls) and meatballs. Delicious. The trout salad and pea salad were also good - very fresh. Nice presentation too! Location/inside is super cute, but you really need to prepare for the wait and if you can go alone, probably increases your chances of not having to wait hours. I will say, there are sweet spots, but I'll let you figure those out on your own. Staff was friendly and quick. Cocktails were also great! They have a great aquavit selection if you happen to be into it - I discovered it one summer lived in Minnesota. The Queen Bee instantly launched me into summer and I loved it.
