Huge fan of Brocco's! Been coming here for years for various supplies! It may be a short review, but I wanted to touch on the fact that this is not merely a barn supply store, but they offer also pet treats, some house supplies, and truck rentals. Expect the old country style store with excellent customer service and very appropriate pricing might I add. For years I had rented trucks from them that were in much better shape than the tatty U-Haul rentals in town and the pricing was quite fare when comparing the two. As for farm supplies, I cannot comment much on it as I have never purchased any, but many I have talked to have raved about it. Purchased many bags of dog food and various other treats over the years as they source a lot of it from local suppliers versus a massive chain company. When in need, I can always trust Brocco's to save the day if they have what I need! read more

Visited Brocco's Old Barn to buy just a bucket of straw. Got a quizzical look until I explained it was for an outdoor feral cat enclosure I had obtained from Amazon.com, for a feral cat that I had been feeding for the last three months. He was skin and bones at the start, now just fashionably slim. He has let me touch him a few times. The Brocco's sales clerk just grinned and said help myself to a bucket worth's of loose straw. So kudos to Brocco's Old Barn. It will get cold and wet some day, and I hope that Cat3 (that's what I am calling him) will find the enclosure and its straw comfortable. (My two indoor/outdoor cats don't seem to mind Cat3 in my backyard; so for now I am a 2.5-cat household, maybe a 3-cat household someday.) read more

All The cows you see along Arnold are sold for slaughter- Even calfs. Just offered to buy mother and calf for whatever price they wanted to buy to put in sanctuary. They would have made their money like any other sale and they said no. They didn't want cow and calf to live life out in sanctuary. When I offered to pay whatever she wanted she started screaming at me that the people of the United States need to eat meat. Painful to engage with such an unstable confused brutal human. Hope she gets some mental health support. In meantime Our organization will cut all ties to the fees store as it's a family business. I encourage you to do so as well. read more

I wish I could give this place ZERO star! Last week, I had to buy a bag of beetpulp for a friend of mine and they charged me over $21 for 50lb. I commented it was high in my experience, but they said it was standard. We even talked about the fact that horses are being abandonned now because of the high cost of horse food. Well, later that day I called Rivertown in Petaluma and the same bag there was $10 LESS. The kicker is that I called Brocco to ask if they had made a mistake and they said no and that they bought their beetpulp from Rivertown. They implied Rivertown's bag are 40lb which is not the case, and they were not embarrassed in the least. Well, with this kind of price gouging, no wonder horse people have difficulties feeding their horses. So, horse people, dont go there. Hunter Behrens and Rivertown, 12 miles away in Petaluma is a much, much , much better deal, even with the price of oil. read more

Not a very good selection of dog food. I do not think that they are consistent when ordering their supply. For instance, they may have the same brand when you go back, but not the same food (as far as ingredients go). There's always something that seems to be off. Service is rather slow. Good place to go if you wanna buy something other than sawdust for your dog, but obviously it costs a little more (not being saw dust and all). I was originally recommended to go here by a bunch of people around and town and since I have my shih tzu has never been happier. The new food has livened him back up to full level yelper and ankle biter. This nice young man named something with a "C" always helps me find my food and directs me away from poisoning my dog with science diet (THANKS!). Not the sharpest tool in the shed but a very helpful young chap. One time my little poochie was naughty and pooped right in front of the counter while I was waiting to pay ("Bad Poochie!"). Embarrassed I went to look for something to pick it up, but the nice man there who helps me with my food had already grabbed it and thrown it away by the time I found something. read more

I had to get some pet food and litter for my cat. Staff was friendly and helpful and Brocco's carries lots of high quality supplies. I just switched cat litter brands. I stopped using the Tidy Cats clumping litter and changed to the corn husk-based litter Brocco's has. Oh what a major difference! The all natural brand that Brocco's has is practically odor-free, clumps very well and has almost no dust. And, most of all, I think it is healthier for my cat. Some of the supermarket type brands of cat litter actually has air freshener additives in them. That I think is not good for a cat. Think about it, a cat grooms itself after each visit to the litter box. And, if that litter is filled with added chemicals, perfumes, etc. the cat is ingesting that into its system. So, I am really pleased that Brocco's carries these all natural brands of cat litter. read more

Tessy loves the food and has finally put on some weight since i rescued her. Now every time i drive past Broccos she goes wild because cameron gave her yummy treats from his pocket. Brocco's is a great place. It's no frills. If you want a latte' and a personal shopper, Brocco's won't make you happy. It's not Nordstrom's. It's a real feed store. Funky in the best sense. I shop there for dog supplies. They have a large selection of food. I guess a chain like Petco carries more, but Brocco's has many brands and many premium brands. If they don't have something they'll order it and get it fast. They also have a lot of doggie toys, chews of many kinds, treats, leashes, shampoos, etc. I've not run into a problem with the staff being slow or rude. Never. I don't get some of the other comments, but OK. I've never waited long to pay, even on busy Saturdays. Just today I went in and Pam was very generous helping me. Nice folks. I bring my doggie in cuz he loves Brocco's. They're very welcoming and spoil him with treats and attention. You can't get that online. I'm sure you can beat their prices on some things if you go here and there, but they're not "expensive." Sure, Costco is much cheaper for a very limited selection. I buy some stuff at Cosco, too. But if you go online or to Costco your pup won't get a treat, you can't ask questions and get information, and you won't be supporting a solid Valley small business. read more

Been a Brocco's customer for nearly 30 years. Had a few complaints over the years naturally, but over all love this feed barn. Wouldn't trade it for something shiny and corporate for the world. Occasionally gotten a bad bale or something but any problems I've had they have pretty much rectified with replacements, credit or a refund. The staff are great, love the counter girls, Jan, Pam & Cindy. I remember the manager, Brian, from when he was a young man working in the yard bucking hay. He left for a while but eventually came back. Says something about the place. Has a family business feel, which I like, warts and all. Now and then one of the yard guys has been a little cocky (looking at you, Koby) but with rare exceptions all the help are very courteous and helpful. Prices have always been better than, or competitive with, everywhere else I've checked (including, and especially, corporate Pet Food Express). Big supply and selection of dog and cat food (dry/can and I think refrigerated too), bulk seed of all kinds for fowl and birds, baby chicks, lots of treats, meds, toys, basic needs for dog, horse and animal owners. There is something I have always loved about visiting feed barns, love having chickens greeting you at the door, and I'm really glad we have this one here in the Sonoma Valley. read more

My husband and I live locally in Sonoma and when we decided to raise chickens I was referred to the good folks at Brocco's by a friend who also raises chickens. I figured we would check out their selection and then go to a few other places but we didn't need to. The staff was so friendly and helpful. One of the guys took a good half hour to 45 minutes just to tell us all about raising baby chicks and what we would need, what to watch for and set us up with everything, well within our extremely modest budget. I've been back a couple times for supplies and each time I am greeted like a family member (I'm not), my nervous parental chick-raising questions answered patiently and sent on my way as one extremely satisfied customer. read more

This is combination review for Brocco's Old Barn and the Penske Trucks they rent. I had a miserable experience with U-Haul, trying to rent a truck in Seattle to drive to Sonoma. My reservation was changed and U-Haul wanted to send me to hell and gone to get the truck I wanted to rent near the Seatac. I could never get anyone on the phone to talk, and I waited over an hour on hold. I canceled my res online, and called Penske. Real people, at the location I wanted to rent at. AND I could drop it off at Brocco's Old Barn in Sonoma! Everything went great. New truck, ran perfectly, good service at both ends of the trip. NOW I needed a box truck, called Brocco's and talked to the people there about another rental. I had to change the size of the truck, so I called back and ordered a bigger one. Easy peasy. Best truck rental experience ever. I recommend Penske Truck rental, but more importantly, I just love Brocco's Old barn and its employees. You can't go wrong using either Penske or Brocco's Old Barn. read more

I'm new to the area and I think this place is great. First of all, I was approached by several different employees as I wandered around, all offering friendly assistance. They were so helpful and patient with my million questions about raising, housing and feeding chickens and toured me all around to show me where everything was. I was impressed by the knowledge level of everyone I talked to. They even offered me free hay from the edges of the hay barn where it falls out of the bales because I only needed a small amount. Prices might be a bit higher but in a rural setting that's sometimes to be expected. read more

I love Brocco's. I've gone to that store since I moved to Sonoma almost 40 years ago. I find the staff to be particularly helpful. Not perfect, but hell, they're human, and it's hot in there. I've had occasion to return things, they've never given me a hard time, they just take it back. I love that they carry so many really good dog foods. I don't have a lot of money, but I buy a good dog food for my pup. And I always go to Brocco's because I know they carry it, and it's at a fair price. I've priced it online. As a long-time resident of Sonoma, I have been to Brocco'$ from time to time and cannot recommend it at all ever. The selection of dog food and their selection of horse and livestock products are limited and outrageously expensive. While hay had been selected for years by the now-deceased patriarch of this clan, it is currently bought in from a larger feed outlet in Petaluma and marked up very high. That might be okay for the San Francisco weekenders, but not for local regulars with serious agricultural needs. It was also the last ditch habit of any other feed store in Sonoma now defunct--fair warning! DO NOT PAY CASH to these people as their accounting of cash payments is negligible in our experience. DO NOT ACCEPT LARGE DELIVERIES OF HAY WITHOUT INSPECTION as one recent truck delivery was unacceptable and complaint was considered "feedback." DO NOT EXPECT COURTEOUS TREATMENT as it is well beyond the level here, and DO NOT EXPECT THAT DELIVERIES WILL BE MADE WITHOUT DAMAGE TO YOUR PROPERTY; we waited years for any compensation for damage -- too little, too late . DO NOT EXPECT THEIR STATED OPEN HOURS TO BE ACCURATE as just yesterday my disabled husband was turned away despite a phone call. Do go to Western Farm Center, Behrens, or even Rivertown or Wilsons, never mind the distance. It's well worth it. A number of Sonoma llocals band together and go to Vacaville for much cheaper prices for hay. read more

I am usually irritated before I even get in line there; the guys are not very intuitive; they will watch you load a 35lb bag of feed no problem! The receipt situation is just lame and yes, the pricing is not that good and their supplies are not well stocked. This is the only place we can find our dogs food. We recently moved to Marin and we can't even find it here! Our dog has a sensitive stomach, so we can't switch her food up with stomach and gas issues. They always have the food we need and it's a good excuse to come back to town for a visit. read more

I called Brocco's to see if they had any of the " Golden Fire " woodburning pellets in stock. Initailly the woman I spoke with was helpful . She checked and informed me they had " 20 bags in stock " . When I asked if she could put 6 bags aside for me, her reply was " Well, we have 20 bags in the back ". Her tone of voice was rude . I informed her that I would come by and pick up the pellets. My conversation with her ended with her hanging up on me. How much effort would it have taken for her to say " No problem , we'll set aside 6 bags for you ". Instead of hanging up on me , how much effort would it have taken for her to say " Thanks for calling , good by ". This is no way to run a business !!! read more

Brocco's is the place to go. Yeah, some of the dudes who work there chew tobacco, and sometimes they're a little slow, but it's a rural feed store. They're relaxed, friendly, and helpful, and their prices, though maybe sometimes higher than the larger feed stores in petaluma, are usually better than their Sonoma competitors. i seriously wish i could give this establishment negative stars. They are to say it plainly.....RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!!!!!!! Last week we went to pick up some hay (.....er....STRAW! I'll explain that in a bit), to use in our veggie garden as mulch. Walking in to the front area, there were people standing around, talking, asking questions (customers to an employee). We walk up to the counter, and the guy bluntly and with attitude asks "What do you want?" I said we'd like 2 bails of hay, and before i could get another word out, he cut me off and very rudely stated "STRAW! Its not hay, its STRAW!". Both my bf and i were quite shocked at how rudely we were just talked back to, just in asking for a product they sell regardless of its actual name. (jeeze, couldnt they have at least said in a nice tone that its actually called straw and not hay???) So i said, "Uhm, yes. Well, we just need to make sure it has no seeds or anything since it will be used for a garden". And i just get a look from this guy like he would enjoy ripping my head off with a pitchfork, and he says again, quite rudely "Yes, its STRAW, so of course there would be no seeds, we dont sell straw with seeds, or else it wouldnt be STRAW" After that, i just kept my mouth shut (like a good customer should i guess...?) And purchased the straw. He told us to pull around to the side to pick it up. Which is where our second rude encounter was. We then pulled around to the side and were greeted by a different employee, who we hoped would be a bit nicer. NOPE! He couldnt make up his mind as to where he wanted my bf to back up his truck to load the bales. Left, then right, then left again...finally, we just backed up into the easiest spot, and apparently the man did not like where we were. My bf's truck has a locking tail gate, so he had to get out and unlock it. But before he could, the guy was trying to open the tail gate, and when he couldnt, i could see he was visiably pissed off and just took the bale hooks and threw the bale with all his strength into the bed of my bf's truck. My bf flew out of the truck to open the tail gate before he tried to do that again (what if he had broken the back windows throwing the second bale in!!!) And we proceeded to load the last bale, and we were finally out of that hell hole. i will state this plain as day for everyone who is reading this: WE WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK TO BROCCOS EVER AGAIN!!!! WE WILL FIND ANOTHER BUSINESS THAT SELLS HAY/STRAW EVEN IF WE HAVE TO DRIVE FARTHER AWAY TO GET THERE. DO NOT GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY AND BUSINESS TO THIS PLACE! read more

I've been going here for years, picking up everything from dog food and birdseed, to hay bales and baby chicks. You want bells, whistles and frills? Go to the chain store. I like the place because it's the closest store that sells high quality dog and cat food. It's fairly well stocked and offers a wide selection of premium pet food. It is kind of expensive, but that's to be expected in a local Mom and Pop business; and Id rather support them than a large chain that may sell the same pet food somewhat cheaper. But they are SO SLOW! They don't even make an effort to do anything quickly - particularly the ringing up process. I mean, it's ridiculous. They slowly write each item down on a receipt, then slowly find the book that contains the prices (they seem to.have only.one such book and itt seems there's always a search for it. Then they (slowly and methodically) look up each item, and write the price on the receipt, often while conversing with other employees or customers). They then add each item on a small simple calculator, figure the tax, and then add it all up. Its like watching paint dry. I always get annoyed when I shop there only.because I don't feel prioritized and because their pace is ridiculous. But Ill keep shopping there for now. read more
