Great service via phone calls. I called twice and both times they were very helpful and pleasant to speak with. The second time I called, I requested them to save a stock tank for me and they did without hesitation. The price of the stock tank was cheaper than other places. I picked up my tank the next day and they had my name on a perfect stock tank. The cashier was very helpful too. 5 stars for service, quality of products, and pricing on my particular item. I am a loyal long-term Higby's customer. I always pick up in store or in the parking lot. Husband and I have been sick, but realized we're running low on hay and feed. I called Monday for a delivery order. Higbys trucks were all full for the week for deliveries. Without being asked, Scott said he'd make a delivery to me himself the next morning. Wow! Great place to buy anything for your horse, dog or cat. Full sized bales of hay that they will happily load for you. I have a disability and they were happy to load literally anything into my car for me, even 50 lb bags. Polite, professional loaders. No one was smoking, swearing or talking about anything controversial. Years ago I bought $200 a month in feed from Higbys. They even remembered my deceased horse's name, the dog's name! Handicapped parking is right up front, very little walking, maybe 20-40 feet from the car to the checkout. You don't have to load stuff on a cart. I just go to the counter and mention my disability and ask for what I want. They go grab it, bring it to the checkout for me. That's a real lifesaver for a person who can't lift much, can't bend over to pick things up. Aisles are wide enough for a person who uses a wheelchair to easily access. Floor is smooth with no bumps or impediment to wheelchair use. Eager staff will lift anything for you. I used to bring my leashed dog there and he was welcome. He was silent and polite. I've seen other well behaved dogs inside but they wouldn't tolerate an aggressive dog for a second, so it's safe to walk around. Large building full of useful items. When I went to Higby's to find an obscure item for the animals they very often had what I was looking for. Well stocked. read more

I honestly wish I could give them 10 stars! They have amazing customer service and go out of their way to help their customers! They carry great quality hay that I will travel 30-40 minutes for, and my horse definitely devours it and loves it! They are the only place I will get hay from! All of the people who work there are wonderful and so kind! There is one specific gentleman that I cannot remember his name for the life of me, but he wears a vest usually when I see him, and he always knows how much will fit in my vehicle for hay or shavings and he is spot on! Our chocolate lab puppy Lola just loves going here and getting all the treats and absolute love and attention they show her also! This is the best feed and farm store in the area. They have high quality hay in many varieties that is fresh. The delivery is a bargain and they stack the hay in your barn with a special forklift/squeeze that makes it quick and easy. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and owner are also a big plus! The store has feed for a number of different species as well as equipment and supplies for your barn or stable. They also sell fence wire, gates, troughs and wheelbarrows among other things. I'll be shopping here often. read more

Higby's is simply the best. I'm a first time have my horses at home customer and I am absolutely convinced if Higby's goes anywhere I'm selling my house with 5 acres and going back to boarding. They have helped me with hay, supplements, feeds, bedding, fencing, fly spray, dog food, cat food, mud boots, gates, troughs for landscaping, stall mats, referrals, hay bags... the list goes on. Their hay is phenomenal. This was one area I was so stressed about because I don't want to buy in large quantities and I needed to trust my source. My horses are super healthy and have never looked better. 95% of their diet is forage and that's all Higby's quality hay. I'd also be lost without the delivery and hay stacking guys. I used to shop here 10-yrs. ago and staff was awesome. Moved back from TN and went in to buy dog food for my 4 Border Collies. Staff did not greet me when I entered store. Instead there were three of them talking and joking at the front counter. Never offered to help as I walked up and down rows looking for my brand. Barely acknowledged me when I came to register to pay. It's like they don't care for your business. From now on, I will drive the extra 7-miles to Davis where staff are friendly and helpful. read more

I have been going to Higby's for almost 8 years and find that no matter what size of order you have to buy there or deliver, they will always accommodate you the best they can. Wednesday noontime at Higby's is the time and the place to pick up chicks in Yolo. Prices are reasonable (around $2.50 a pop) and they have a good variety of chickas (they are sexed hens--though who really knows). The store beyond the poultry section is surprisingly nice. There is a large horseback riding section, complete with lots of pink tee-shirts for your tween girl announcing that she's a cowgirl and whatnot. You can also pick up a John Deere collar or stuffed tractor for you dog. I was tempted, I have to admit. And the staff is very nice and helpful--loading up your purchases in your car before you're even done paying. read more

After reading a review that this place is excellent for rabbit owners, I decided to come here with my housemate to see if we could get hay and litter for a cheaper, because our 3 bunnies are huge poopers and eaters. We were pretty impressed by the store, which had the super cute and fluffy chicks separated by breed (and there were at least 4 different breeds!) in the front and a huge selection of small toys/food/litter in the back. The staff was friendly and answered our questions about our hay and litter options. Litter prices were awesome! Dry Den (non-aromatic wood pellets) was super cheap at ~ $5 and came in huge bags. Yesssss. We saw on the board that a bale of oat hay was $13, which sounded very reasonable for us, because the typical bag of Oxbow hay costs $11 for a 40oz bag (theirs was pretty cheap, but still. $13!). Yeah, us city girls have no idea how much a bale actually is. As such, the nice guy at the register told us to bring the car out back and then proceeded to help us load a bale of hay into the car, which we then spent a couple of hours sorting and bagging into lawn/leaf bags for later use. Even after giving out 2 lawn bags full of hay, we still have plenty of hay for the next month or so (so a bale lasts 3-4 bunnies 3-4 months. Lulz.) TL;DR: 1. Prices are pretty darn awesome for rabbit owners. Don't know about other animals though, but the store is great! 2. If you live in Davis and have a pet bunny, the 10 minute drive here is so worth it for the litter (Dry Den) and the hay (they have oat and orchard). More worth it than going to Pet Extreme or to Petco. 3. If you are a confused city person, like myself, and get a bale of hay for your bunny, prepare to sort and bag the hay into manageable amounts. It's a great deal if you can find enough people to split the hay with you :D read more

They had the medicine i needed for my dog at nearly half the price pet extreme and petco was charging! Plus, the store was jam-packed with everything you need for your pet and even horses! The only negative is the prices - I had to take off a star for the very high prices for everything they sell. If not for the price issue, Higby's world be my first choice. They obviously believe is great service otherwise what business would invest so much time in a $25 purchase? Since then we've been back for everything needed to raise chicks, chickens, and a pig for the fair. Great selection of feed, feeders, tack, also boots, 4-h hats & scarves, fencing and my favorite- those big galvanized steel troughs that stylish cafes use as garden pots. I've only been at this store once but I've been really wanting to come here again. Probably will when stopping by Pedricks for some produce. I was really surprised to find that this place would offer the cheapest place to buy Carefresh bedding for my pets. They carry both natural and ultra (brown/white respectively). I forgot the price of natural and I'll update the next time I come. The Ultra was only 17.99+tax so about 19 and some change which is the best price I've found so far. Every single other pet store I've ever been to has never dipped below 20$ for ultra (With the exception of Dr Fosters & Smith. Only seen it once though). Service was also nice. They only carry bales here, no flakes, so either buy a bale bag (If you got the space it's a great solution for bunnies or horses) or separate into flakes yourself. My SO only need a little bit of hay to get through the weekend so they gave us a small plastic bag full to fill up near their building. Was very nice of them to do that. read more

I've only been to this place one time to get a few shots or my dogs. It's really easy to get to. It's big. I didn't really look around to much but it did seem like they sold a lot of things. I saw hay, stuff for horses and other farm animals. I looked at the dog stuff. It's the usuall dog stuff...shampoo,bones, a few things of clothes. Great place to shop for your pet and or farm animal needs. Service is always stellar here, the staff is friendly and very helpful. Will order specialty items for you if you have a pet with special needs (i.e. food allergies) like mine. There is not a singe time I have walked in there and a staff member hasn't greeted and help me find and even carry my items to my vehicle. Prices are a little higher than most chain pet stores, but they put a $5 discount add in the local Grapevine each month and some things are just worth paying a little more for. They are never out of the specialty dog food I need and have a variety of hypo-allergenic treats for dogs. We get chicken crumble and shavings here as well. Couldn't ask for a nicer placer to shop for your animal in Dixon. read more

I explained she will bark at first but she really is friendly, just afraid. They said bring her in.
