TLDR; Dr. Carlisle is the Giant Breed Queen. The vets and staff problem solve and treat patients effectively and conveniently. They provide treatment plans based on what you can afford. Top notch care. Top notch clinic. I got time I'm in Quarantine read; Listen,I've had HORRID experiences with vets. My last Great Dane had some kind of skin disease I paid thousands to diagnose and never got an answer...it caused Mast cell tumors that were mis diagnosed as Lipoma's I had to throw a fit about to get biopsies. She then got bone cancer 6 months later at 4 years old and suffered immensely because of improper diagnosis & refusal to prescribe pain meds of that condition as well. I met DR. CARLISLE at Happy Tails in Vacaville after my last dane Scarlett passed away. I got a new Great Dane pup in March of 2019. Harlow :) and Dr. Carlisle was her first vet visit. I was astounded at her loving, caring, knowledgeable service! She educated me on proper nutrition for my specific breed of dog (she has a degree in K9 nutrition) she explained how calcium and phosphorus ratios affect a Giant Breeds bone growth and told me that a lot of suppliers don't even list it on the package. I had been giving Scarlett Call of The Wild which has a SUPER high calcium/phosphorus ratio....which causes bones to grow to quickly and can possibly contribute to bone cancer in Danes. (She didn't say it caused it she said there have been studies done that suggest it, I myself looked them up and she's right! I had no idea!!) I live in Fairfield! I went back 3 more times after she left to Davis and started to experience the flippant behavior I'd seen with Scarlett. So, I asked where Dr. Carlisle went and made an appointment at South Davis when Harlow continued to get reoccurring UTI's (4) and the other clinic refused to prescribe antibiotics without me bringing her in to get her weight. Even though she'd been there 2 weeks prior & I was leaving in 2 hours for Mexico. Then at a later date they told me she needed laser therapy or surgery for a tail tip injury ($1800) & there were no other options. South Davis prescribed plenty of antibiotics and continued to follow up on Harlow's condition. She hasn't had a UTI since. Dr. Carlisle also treated her tail tip injury in the office. Gave me PLENTY of supplies to treat it at home at a reasonable cost and wrote me an RX for GENERIC not expensive name brand meds I could get filled at any pharmacy for $5-$10. She was VERY patient with Harlow even though she's a SPAZ! And spent over an hour with me and 2 other vets techs taping up and treating her mangled tail. It healed right up! No surgery necessary! Bc I live in Fairfield this clinic has made it very easy for me to get refills at my local pharmacy and has no problem ensuring I am never inconvenienced. I got frustrated with the tail thing after Harlow are-inured it and I literally tried to make an appt to cut it off (don't judge me lol) Dr. Carlisle talked me out of the expensive surgery, though it was an opportunity for them to make $ and my other vet would have happily taken a machete to it, explaining that it was not in Harlow's best interest. I took her back and another vet took the same care Carlisle did and her tail is healed once again! I LOVE this vet and now send my Boyfriend there with his cats and my mom there with her ankle biter chihuahua "Spike". I will continue to trust the vets here and the excellent tech staff...most of which have extensive college educations relating to Animal science. It's worth the drive! Their website is also up to date with prices and procedures!

Staff are friendly and the doctors will give nervous dogs cheese on lick mats to help distract them during exams! I feel my concerns at this vet are taken seriously as opposed to having their vets. And the staff members will actually get down on the ground with my dogs which makes the world of difference to me.

I've been bringing my dog to west and south Davis since I rescued him 3 years ago. They have always been helpful and kind. As a graduate student I don't make much money and their prices are fair. They explain everything to me and are patient. My dog just had surgery there yesterday for a growth and they took great care through out the process. Giving me all my options and calling to check with me during the surgery day. I highly recommend!

After moving out of Sacramento I was in search of a new vet for my fur babies. South Davis vet is the third vet office I've been to in the area. I've been taking my cats there for almost 2 years now and have been nothing but completely satisfied! One kitty has complicated medical conditions, and the doctors here have been wonderful with accurately diagnosing and treating him. The staff is always courteous and thorough with answering my questions. And the care by the doctors is excellent! The vets here go above and beyond to explain things and give you detailed information and great recommendations for the best care of my babies. We consider ourselves lucky to have found this place and don't mind the long drive to get here...always well worth the trip.

I just want to say thank you all for helping my cat Oscar. Every person at this location has been nothing but helpful and extremely caring. It doesn't matter who I deal with it's always the same result and that deserves praise. I wanted to give them a big shout out that they have been very helpful with helping my cat Oscar. Oscar is extremely overweight and I'm doing my best to get him down. The staff have been extremely helpful educating me on how to get him down to a healthy weight. Poor guy even had a tapeworm and they helped me get rid of it. The prices for visits are very affordable which is amazing considering the quality! With their help I'm hoping to get Oscar to a healthy weight. Thanks again :)

I have not had much experience with this clinic but what I have had has been very, very, very good. The staff is awesome! Friendly, helpful and in good humor even during these crazy covid times. The staff is super important because that is who we the clients and patients talk to most of the time. Perla, Karly and cute other girl that I spoke with, I appreciate you! Dr. Schawel has been super pro, super helpful, super clear, and super dooper in general. I appreciate you too! My friend and colleague recommended them to me and I am grateful to her. Unfortunately my pet will not survive her ailment. Without getting into the details of her illness, I want to say how very kind, sensitive and supportive Dr Schawel and team have been. I can honestly say that I feel that they care and are trying their hardest to do right by our speechless fur babies. I feel safe with them helping me see my sweet girl to the end of her life. I dont want them to get too busy for me so I will stop gushing now.

Back home with new products to make my girl less itchy & a fun new toy!

Yackey gave me his thoughts of what it was and let me know how much exercise my dog could have to get the leg healed.

I absolutely ADORE Dogtopia Davis (and more importantly, so does my dog)! All of the staff are…read moresuper friendly and kind with both pups and people. It's always stressful leaving your dog somewhere and worrying about if they're being treated well, and it's such a relief knowing she's getting the absolute best care possible. :) I love the little handwritten "report cards" I'll sometimes get and I love seeing that there are regular activities planned for the pups to do. I can't emphasize enough how helpful Dogtopia has been in our lives!!!

I was recommended Dogtopia due to location, friendly staff, and webcam access…read more Pros: Friendly staff at the front. Automatic payment and easy app to navigate. Smooth drop off/pick-up if it's not during the rush. Signage on the lobby door for only one dog/family in the lobby at one time, which is very helpful for reactive dogs. lots of parking spots. Cons: Costs are high. They used to allow us to roll over any days not used for the week/month for free but that changed abruptly with little verbal notice. staff/coaches working in the playrooms not so great. Multiple times I have seen on the webcam, staff ignoring certain dogs, carelessly spraying cleaning chemicals on dogs while cleaning, and not cleaning after dogs. I've had multiple instances in which another parent was given my dog or I was given the wrong dog at pick up. Recently I noticed the webcam feed would go up later and turn off earlier. I used to be able to watch as early as 7:45am and late as 6:30pm but sometimes I won't see anything until 8:30am and the feed will turn off at 6pm. Webcams all go offline from 12-2pm for dogs to rest and/or eat their lunch/meds, and staff to clean. No outdoor area for dogs to play or relieve themselves. The owner Cindy has confirmed during my meet and greet that many dogs have regressed on their potty training if they are trained to go outside. Going back to the webcam, I have on multiple occasions (minimum 10 different occasions first two months) witnessed my dog being humped on by other dogs but staff do nothing to correct the behavior. My dog did not hump other dogs, people, or their toys until I started to send them to daycare, and I recognize this is a natural behavior, but this behavior was very noticeable after daycare. My dog also seems to actively avoid certain dogs at daycare, and it's most likely because these same dogs keep going after mine. It does not look like playing or wrestling. It's always the same doodle, rat terrier looking dog, and sometimes a beagle bothering my dog and the staff just watch then walk away. I saw a canine coach job posting for this location, and it seems that staff get very thorough training (lots of practice and supervision) but pay seems to be $16 an hour? work 4-5 hours about 3-4 times a day minimum AND have to stand around the whole time cleaning up after dogs? At least pay them more? Hire more staff? Consider ways to maintain staff retention and lower turnover? Maybe they'll look less upset and have more drive to perform better at work? My biggest issue is the lack of cleanliness and slow to action coaches working in the rooms. I am paying a high price but I don't believe dogs are getting the full attention and care they deserve. At least 5 instances within the first 2 months of starting daycare in which my dog came home with poop crusted on his rear, pee on his legs or back, and random chalk smudges on his legs. I was notified only once about this at pick up, and that was because the staff had supposedly washed off my dog so he was very wet at pick up. However, upon brief inspection, there was still full remnants of poop and pee on my dog. If you were going to wash off the dog, at least do a better job? Inside is well updated, so I know there is a nice grooming area with bath to clean off my dog. But also, why wasn't I notified more consistently? Furthermore, staff in the back are not quick to clean up after dogs when they poop/peeps. I do recognize there is only 1-2 staff members working with at least 5-7 dogs and up to maybe 18 dogs in one play room, so it's absolute chaos, but it's frustrating seeing poop picked up 5-10 minutes after, pee barely mopped up with the same mop, over and over again. I have watched this multiple times on the feed and it's very disturbing, especially when I think about other dogs stepping/running all over it and coming home. I wash my dog's paws and wipe him down after every daycare day, and it's tiring after a long day of work, but it's definitely needed (especially with how the dogs smell after spending time with other dogs in a small and enclosed space). Anyways, this place isn't terrible if you're not very particular about cleanliness and attentiveness to dog care. I think this is the only daycare in town? There is another one called pawsome care or something (still same prices but no webcam I think) but no reviews so Dogtopia it is. Also location is somewhat convenient. And my dog already knows this place so it'll probably be hard for him to readjust somewhere new. And if you're looking for grooming, I recommend Sydnee's. Prices are considerably cheaper than Dogtopia, Petco, and Petsmart. I was recommended Sydnee's too, and went at least twice. I'm no dog professional or business owner, and I'm new to doggy daycare so I hesitated for months on posting this review. But somethings had to be sad so hopefully this helps someone.
