If you want expert pet care and absolutely abysmal lack of awareness, look no further. The care is first rate, though pricey, but not any pricier than any other vet. Where I found them horrible is in their attitude. When my 18 year-old cat was dying I wanted him euthanized. I couldn't tell if he were suffering. At first they wanted to schedule me for two days later (WTF?). Then when they told me the price, I told them I could pay more than half, but I'd have to pay the balance *four* days later. The phone receptionist went into "All fees must be paid at the time of service" robot mode. She suggested I start calling around to see if someone else could help me. I don't know if it was the same woman, but one time before the lady answering the phone was kind of snippy. Some people shouldn't be allowed to be on the phone with human beings. My cat? A few hours later he died *writhing* in my arms. I will never, ever, ever forgive them for that. They made a really bad day into the most horrible day in my life--all because they wouldn't wait a couple of days for 60 bucks. I might point out that I had paid them more than $800 over the previous year and a half with no trouble, but suddenly they were treating me like a panhandler out of the gutter. They are good at cat medicine, but absolutely rubbish at dealing with people.. These guys completely blew it. Keep looking. read more

I truly appreciate the staff and veterinarians at both West and South Davis. They have always taken great care of all of our pets (4 cats and 2 dogs). I believe they truly care and want to build rapport with not only the humans but the pets in their care as well. I recently brought our Charlie in for a routine check up and shots. Dr. Yackey was thorough and personable. Charlie is a large breed dog (great pyr/German Shepard mix) and has been having some cracking going on in his back legs when getting up. Dr. Yackey gave him an exam and discussed preventative measures to take care of his joints. In the past 6 years I've been bringing our pets to both locations I have never had a bad experience. We drive almost 40 minutes one way to frequent this vet due to their thoughtful and considerate care of our pets. read more

My dogs love going to West Davis. I even took my German Shepherd we just got from a shelter and she was so calm during her visit because they made her feel comfortable and were just great with her. One time my son's German Shepherd got a foxtail up her nose from sniffing everything and they got her in quickly the same day and removed it. I highly recommend this office. My 6 year old cocker spaniel can be very nervous and finicky about people, but the assistant and the vet seemed to have a magical, calming effect on her. I was able to get in to see someone within 24 hours. They diagnosed my dog's ear infection & prescribed her the proper medication and we were on our way in less than 45 minutes. We took our two recently adopted cats to the West Davis Clinic in 2021. They were supportive and did through check ups on our cats. They identified that one of our cats was very ill and helped us through our heartbreak at having to put that cat down. They also helped us get our other cat updated on all her vaccines and made sure she was tested to ensure she was starting out with us on a healthy footing. My mom and I take our Maltese/Terrier mix to another clinic in Davis. We are always pleased with the service at the front desk and from the doctor. When I adopted a kitten recently, I decided to try a different clinic in town so I would be supporting another local business. I scheduled an appt. and emailed the records. The purpose of the appt. was to establish care which would include an exam and to address any concerns I might have (I had none). The woman at the front desk wasn't welcoming in the slightest. I've never had that happen in any vet clinic in any city. It was a red flag. When she came into the exam room to verify my information, the same attitude was exhibited. It was exhibited again when I thanked her as I left. I wanted to leave at that moment but then I would have ended up being charged. Ariel was very nice and friendly as was Alicia. Dr. Brown was, too. She was very thorough during the exam. Where my alarms were raised was when she asked me to look up info about the vaccinations on my kitten's records. It was on the computer and I feel she should have done it. I looked on my phone and hurriedly found the info. She said that my kitten should have a new dose of both the FVCRP and Feline Leukemia vaccinations and in three weeks have a booster. The two shots were given and a follow-up appt. was set for the boosters. The summary of the visit and the invoice were emailed to me. First red flag, a reminder was mentioned which was dated for November of 2024. This was December and my first appt. It was also stated that the vaccinations were dose one of each of the above. I clearly wasn't "with it" during the appt. In looking into the records further and refreshing my memory, I saw that my kitten had already had two doses of the vaccinations mentioned above. Why was he vaccinated again and was he being given more than he should have, plus I ended up paying for two vaccinations that I'm not sure were necessary. I decided right then and there to go to the clinic where our dog is taken. When I emailed to cancel the appt., no concern was given as to why. I took a copy of the records in and have an appt. scheduled for later this month. With all of the stellar reviews for West Davis Vet, it seems this must have been a bad day for them. My husband and I have been taking our dogs to West Davis for close to two years now and I'm continually impressed with how well run this practice is. From the front desk, to the techs, to the doctors, everyone is friendly, communicates well, and provides great care to our dogs. We primarily see Dr. Brown, who is a fantastic veterinarian, but we have been seen by other veterinarians within the practice and everyone has been exceptional. The clinic has been recently renovated and the separate dog and cat entrances and exits are a nice amenity. We highly recommend this clinic. read more

Amazing staff and customer service by far the best ive encountered but as far as prices go this place is absolutely off its rocker. We came in the other day because our dog lambie has a couple teeth knocked loose. His teeth werent in the best condition prior to this incident so we knew alot about his situation. Instead of taking care of what needed to be taken care of they just wanted yo upsale and try and pull more teeth than needed. It was 250 dollars for one extraction. 70 dollars for just the exam fee which thats just ridiculous and i felt like they just care about the money really.. this place also DOES NOT take walk ins which is incredibly weird as all vet clinics in Las Vegas take walk ins. We are not from davis we were visiting family in woodland and this was the only appointment available in the area. If your dog isnt dying and you can make the drive down to las vegas, nv i highly recommend doing if for far more cheaper prices. Caring hands animal clinic in las vegas, nevada offered to do the surgery and 3 tooth extractions for all under 300...... sooooo you think about it. Even though vegas is almost 10 hours away youd be saving over 600.. This place might love animals but i think they love the money alittle more. read more

Dear Dr. Cara Bradley, you did not get my point, did you? My point is that your team pushed for a drastic dietary change on my cat when she was already not eating well, and when I told you she didn't like the food, you didn't give any solution, and basically told me I have no choice but to feed her the special diet, in which she didn't like and her system was not used to, the choices YOU made starved my cat to death basically. You also misdiagnosed her to say her illness was "early-stage". After getting "treatment" from you, I had to rush her to emergency Vet, and they had to give her IV therapy, and the Vet who was a cat specialist was astonished how wrong your diagnosis and lack of experience were, and don't you dare mentioning "condolences", you know you all are laughing your way to the bank and you Do Not care about the animals. I just moved to the area and was so lucky to find these guys. They see my two dogs and two cats. All the staff are wonderful. Dr. Yackey really took his time getting to know my dog at her first appointment, never once feeling rushed. Dr. Brown is always thorough, kind, and compassionate with my cats. Sometimes their schedule can be quite full, but they always put me on their cancellation list and I'm able to get in within a few days. When my cat with heart issues wasn't able to be seen by the cardiologist for over a month, the vet techs made some calls and got him to make a special visit to see my boy sooner. Dr. Bradley followed up with a really detailed email explaining all the findings and next steps, which I really liked because it gives me something to refer back to. My elderly 19 yo cat declined quickly in 7 days out of the blue to the point she couldn't stand. I already knew she was suffering and needed to be put down. The regular vet said two weeks out or emergency costs $200 minimum and up. This place was a saving grace as they recognized the need for immediate service at a decent cost. I LOVE them!! I just adopted a 12 week old kitten who needed his shots and an exam to make sure he was healthy. The staff were nice, cheery and helpful! The vet nurse talked me through everything and was very patient with all of my questions! Dr. Muller was thorough and reassuring. Before they did anything, they showed me a price breakdown of all the treatments they were going to do so I knew beforehand. Not only was my experience great, but a few days later I called them because my kittens runny nose hadn't cleared up yet and I was worried. Whoever answered the phone was so kind and reassuring and told me that I can call back anytime just for more reassurance because that's what they're there for. It honestly made me so happy! They even let me place an order for a larger sized bag! Very disappointed with them. I was to bring my chahuahia in for observation cuz there is something seriously wrong with him. All I kept telling them is.nothing is going to happen because he is out of his comfort zone.. all day they watched him play and sleep. Nothing ever happening. On a normal day at home he has had 2 or 3 of these episodes or one that lasted a while by 1pm. I tried to tell the nurses assistant that he might be nervous and maybe with me in there with him might help one of these episodes to come on and she tells me " we don't want to forcen it" how the he'll is that forcing it.. I told them you watch and see he is going to have one of these things as soon as I get home.. So because I wasn't able to just sit with my dog to maybe point out some stuff that happens when these things start to happen I had to pay them $115. To watch my dog sleep and play and them when I got home sure enuf he had one of those episodes. His tounge comes out and he.loses control of his hind end and eventually goes catatonic and is.limp like a cooked noodle.. It's absolutely awful.. The doctors don't know what it is, that's why we were there. Still after $115 more we still don't have a clue. It really sucks that they wouldn't listen to me. read more

They listen attentively and are patient, friendly and truly care about the health and well being of our pets. The support staff are also very helpful and kind. I appreciate that when I call the office Fran knows who I am along with the names of my pets as well. It's easy to make appointments and they have onsite parking which is quite helpful when you are bringing in more than one pet. I also like being able to use their online pharmacy for pet meds and food. It's very easy to set up and manage and the order arrives promptly at your house. I brought my new puppy to West Davis Veterinary Center for the first time today. I spoke with Susannah and one other receptionist on the phone (sorry I forgot her name!) and both were very kind to me and able to squeeze me in for a same day appointment as my puppy was sick. They had me wait in my car until a nurse was able to take me directly to the exam room through a back door as my puppy likely has something contagious. It was great to know that they take their infectious disease protocol seriously so that no other dogs were at risk, and it makes me feel confident in bringing my pets here in the future knowing that the facility is clean. The nurse, I believe her name was Samantha, was also very friendly and allowed me to hold my puppy and feed him his treats while she was taking his vitals (it's his first time at the vet and I wanted it to be a positive experience!). He barely even noticed that his temperature was being taken which I know can be stressful. I appreciated that she also worked with me to figure out my payment options which were a little confusing as I am fostering my dog. Dr. Carlisle saw my puppy today and was very kind and thorough during her exam. She used a fear free approach during the exam which really helped my puppy build a positive association with the vet. Dr. Carlisle took care to explain her diagnosis, next steps/what to watch out for, and answer all of my questions. Overall, I am very happy with my first visit to this hospital (and my puppy was very excited to make some new friends). read more

I take my dog, Mako, to West Davis Vet Center and have been since he was born. As a student at UC Davis, I was torn between here and the UC Davis vet center; however, West Davis Vet clinic is conveniently down the road from my house. I LOVE the staff and vets here! They've been nothing but responsive and wonderful to work with. Everyone is quite personable, to the point that I felt comfortable asking them for some help on wildlife research that I conduct yearly. Moreover, they've made time for me again and again when I have needed to schedule immediate medical care. There was even a point when Mako got foxtail in his ear, and I brought him in without an appointment. Dr. Yakkey had walked in during his lunch break (on his day off) and overhearing my concerns, took action immediately. I highly recommend becoming a part of this vet community! I can't say thanks to the West Davis Veterinary Center enough for what they did for me and my cat. From start to finish the level of care we received was amazing. Tech manager Cari scheduled our consultation and Dr. Mueller instantly put us at ease with her care knowledge and bedside manner. Dr. Mueller and her surgical performance were amazing from start to finish. Also the care after surgery by tech Melanie couldn't have been better. Took my puppy in for a first time. A few things; I noticed that the staff want to get you out as fast as possible. I wished that the staff would ask if you have any pet insurance when checking in. Also if you are going to pay out of pocket, please tell me what are going to do to my pet AND if it's ok with me. Please don't do many procedures and not explain anything, just for the receptionist to say what payment is due with a greedy grin. A few thing that I did like was that you had to make an appointment for the visit. Makes it easier on my puppy, and me, to not be in a lobby full of pets and not knowing how my puppy will react. Also, I like the Vet who say my puppy. I don't remember his name but, He was real down to earth and was easy to speak to. Since I really got mixed feeling about this place i will probably go somewhere else and find a right fit for me and my pup. read more

Although the staff is kind and compassionate, my dog wasn't able to get the proper treatment as expected. This March, my dog was diagnosed with a big tumor in her abdomen at West Davis. We were unable to know the origin of the tumor even after spent almost $800 for two ultrasounds. We decided to do the surgery hoping the tumor can be removed. It turned out that the surgeon was not confident (she opened and closed up my dog without doing anything) and suggest us to a specialty hospital and see a board-certified surgeon. She also gave a poor prognosis of my dog, saying that euthanasia could be considered if not pursuing further treatment. The rest several weeks were painful because we cannot afford the $10,000 + surgery fee from a specialty hospital and we did seriously consider euthanasia. Luckily, my husband didn't give up and found a non-profit vet (not a specialty) in San Diego. I drove 18 hours round way. The surgery was successful and most of the tumor was removed. Although there was a risk of tumor regrowing back, I felt so grateful that my dog was saved by the San Diego vet. My expectation is that West Davis should be able to remove the tumor at its first attempt as other vet did. It was not an inoperable tumor, but West Davis couldn't operate saying they are not confident. I end up paying another $1100+ for the meaningless surgery (and West Davis said they offered me some discount). My dog has to suffer from two surgeries in a row. West Davis thinks the surgery is not meaningless because it gave me some information - the tumor was originating from the bladder. Ironically, the tumor is from the vaginal vault not the bladder. read more

This vet is amazing, the staff was so attentive to my needs with my dog Loki. They listened to every need I had and had a solution for everything. Loki has high anxiety and barely lets anyone pet him, his vet Rebecca did AMAZING . She was so kind, patient and helped me find solutions to all of his needs. They also worked around my budget. I absolutely love the staff and vibe here! I've come here frequently as I foster kittens independently and have several animals of my own. Recently I stumbled upon 2 severely dehydrated and malnourished kittens. I'm studying to be an RVT (and eventually vet) so I had a general idea of what I needed but didnt have access to the supplies. The vet techs and Dr. Yackey sent me home with some fluids and lots of encouragment and thanks to those fluids my little boys are getting stronger and stronger each day and are almost ready to find their furever homes :) I adore the reception staff as they always remember me and show genuine care and kindness when I come in, which is rare among alot of the other vet offices I've been to.
