This clinic came highly recommended. However we have been disappointed. We had to post a $97 "deposit" before they would even give us an appointment. We were charged an additional $600 for the actual exam. We were given no record of the visit so we are sure what we paid for. We did come home with some flea and tick meds. The physical building left a lot to be desired. There were large sections of sheet rock missing in our exam room and there were multiple colors of paint showing in various areas. Definitely a facility on the cheap. The vet was friendly and seemed to give a full exam. However the $2,000 estimate for the suggested teeth cleaning seemed a bit excessive. The vet that is part owner and who Pattie, my cat saw today is Jeannine Berger. The clinic is professional, super clean, ethical, and their decisions just make sense. I had taken Pattie to a Vacaville vet hospital who has followed her since she and her brother were two weeks old. After her latest visit I just did not feel confident in the care and treatment she received for her eye injury. The other vet cost more, did less, and really dropped the ball. I heard about Monticello Veterinary Practice from a retired family friend who is a vet. I wish I had gone to MVT and Dr. Berger sooner. It's okay though. I would avoid Dr. Berger at all costs. It's money down the drain. I also have concerns about her professional ethics. My experience is best summed up in my email response after Dr. Berger told me she was too busy for a follow-up appointment and instead referred me to someone in the Bay Area. I wrote: Thank you for the response. Gemma has been a real challenge, but we love her very much and our biggest hope is to help her get out of her own way so she can truly enjoy being a dog. I have come to learn that there are a lot of faux experts in the dog training field and zero accountability if methods don't work. The person we were going to hire and who referred us to you had already diagnosed Gemma as a fearful dog and wanted to put her on meds before she even met her. After 18 months with Gemma practically 24/7, I don't believe she is a fearful dog. Last night, for instance, we took her to our remote place for off-leash exercise and she was running 300 yards ahead of me, happy as can be. A fearful dog would never do that. She is a confused dog who does not seem to be able to process the reality before her. We will consider seeing Dr. Sung, but I have misgivings. Diagnosing behavior in an office setting does not seem to provide a true picture of what we are experiencing with Gemma in her difficult moments. I also looked into the book she co-authored and the consensus of reviews is that the book gives a very good rundown of identifying behavioral challenges and next to nothing about how to address them or overcome them. In your case, while we enjoyed meeting you and appreciated your kindness and compassion, we found it frustrating when we received the follow-up assessment and plan for Gemma. It was basically a generic printout that was not specific to her behaviors or needs. Part of the advice was to not put her in stressful situations and to slowly expand her boundaries. But there was no information about what to do to expand those boundaries or how to interact with her when she freezes and refuses to move forward. The meds you prescribed also made no difference. You never felt the need to check back with us to see how things were progressing. More disappointing, however, is the fact that when I contacted you this time, you didn't seem to feel any professional obligation to continue with a patient you had started working with. When you said your appointments were all booked, did you mean for the next week? The next month? The next decade? You were basically saying you have nothing else to offer and no interest in trying something else. If you were going to diagnose your response as an expert in behavior, would that qualify as anything better than "pretty lame?" Given all this, I am now frustrated that we paid $195 for essentially nothing. It's up to you, of course, but I hope your professional obligation at this point would be to refund us the $195 we paid you, plus the $20 for the meds that did nothing. If you'd like to subtract 10 cents for the follow-up plan you sent us, I would be OK with that. read more

This office misdiagnosed both of my cats (discovered this when I took them to a new vet). I never felt like they really cared about my pets - they were more interested in ordering every lab test in the book and setting up a payment plan. I don't like that they have a "closer" contact you after an appointment to set up new and more expensive testing. They are particularly fond of wanting to pull cat's teeth rather than treat a problem. I brought my cat in because he had been licking his belly to the skin, and got no feedback about the cause of this, but got a pitch to pull his teeth. I asked how bad they were on a scale of 1-5 (5 being bad) and they said "1". My other cat, who has a hyperthyroid issue, also had several years of intestinal problems that never were clearly diagnosed, except for a parasite scan. Upon taking her to a new vet yesterday, with a simple (and cheap) ultrasound, she discovered my cat to have severe Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Never once did Monticello do this simple test on her. However, they were ready to set me up for a payment plan for several hundred dollars' worth of tests. Also, they essentially hold you hostage, refusing to dispense meds for a sick animal until routine vaccines are given, when the animal appears to be weak and unwell, and the last thing they need are this stress. Also have had them "bait and switch" me on testing, telling me that a simple thyroid panel could be done in office and when I get there, informing me that the cat will need an entire blood panel (even though they did one only a couple months earlier), which costs a lot more, and the only way to get a refill on her meds is to have the test. It kind of feels like extortion. Sometimes you don't even see a vet, just a technician, and then you get a phone call from the vet later. And you wonder, "Did the vet even see my animal or is she just reading from the notes?" Bottom line, I don't feel confident with their diagnostic skills, and don't like the atmosphere there. It always ends up feeling like I'm at a used car lot and getting soaked for more money. VERY upset with them right now for failing to do an ultrasound test on my very sick kitty for YEARS. They made her suffer needlessly. Just done with them. read more

It was a very emotional experience for my family and I, yet Heidi and her staff were extremely kind and patient. So frazzled by my visit!! First of all they have thee smallest waiting room now. They changed it a few times ever since Covid. I have no clue why a vet would do that when they have dogs and cats coming in and out. Not all dogs are friendly and they don't really seem to take that into account when taking your pet in the back to the front. I bring her in for vaccinations today. Crystal the vet tech has to take her in the back. Why can't she use the room on the right that is open? We should be able to be with our pets for their visit. It's not Covid anymore so why is this setup like that? So I'm waiting in the 3x5 waiting room. An older dog comes in... I know to be cautious being we had an aggressive dog before. Then two cats go out as the gentleman holds his dog firmly. I'm opening the door for them since it's tight and their hands are full with the cat kennels. So as I wait...I am concerned that my 15month old that wants to say hi to everyone will go towards that dog in the waiting room and once she comes out from the back. Low and behold she comes out with my dog and doesn't have her hand in the dog handle (good thing I brought the short leash) and I see my dog going towards the other dog. I quickly grab my dog from the vet tech and pulled her from the other dog as the gentleman is pulling his dog into the room to the right. I told the tech she didn't have a hold on my dog well and she just blew it off. I then apologized to the guy for being so concerned and said, sorry I am not sure your dog is friendly and he said, he is not and an old k-9 dog and probably not well with others being an older working dog. This is baffling a vet is setup like this. I would be mortified knowing my dog was attacked or if anything happened while leaving because they can't see what is on the other side of the door that they go in and out of. They vet techs should be more alert, and hold someone's pet firmly when bringing them out. Time for change! Please!! We should be able to be with our pet for their visit!! This let me take them back is ridiculous. Dogs are most comfortable with their owners. I know other vets accommodate that. This place does NOT! Ugh :( No shame to the kind gentleman with his dog that he loves. I have had a dog that was aggressive and been in that situation so I know to always be alert. Very disappointed with customer service. I was quoted a price of $99.00 for an initial exam for a new kitten to get vaccines. Vaccines and any needed meds would be extra. So I took my kitten in and she needed meds for her upper respiratory infection and was told to come back in 7 days for a follow up and to continue with the vaccines. All went well and I was very happy until I called back to make the follow up and was told I would need to pay another $99.00 for the follow up and continuation of my first visit. This is the second time I had issues with them and I will not be going back unless they honor their first quote. I did like the attendants, but the payment policy is my issue. read more

We brought our senior dog for a check up. She has slowed down quite a bit in the last 6 months and we really just wanted to focus on her quality of life. The vet and staff were very understanding and willing to work with what we were able to do. We did the exam, bloodwork and took home supplements. The doctor also called quickly and spoke with us about the blood work results which helped us determine the best pain medication for Luelue. The best vet ive ever taken my animals to! The staff is so friendly, they make you feel like your part of the family. Ive been taking my 2 year old Rottie Mila there since she was a little 7 week old pup. And they give her so much loving everytime we stop by, that she gets excited when we pull up. Because they are her friends of course! Theyve also helped save my little kitty Gizmos life when his leg got broken. And did everything they could to keep his major surgery as affordable as possible. They know how much our little fuzzy friends mean to us and know i didnt have thousands of dollars to spend on my gizzy guy so they took off all labor costs and i basically paid for anesthesia and antibiotics. Calling a vet's office these days is generally right up there with trying to call the IRS during Tax time but MVP actually answers their phones without much time on hold - refreshing - and Ari was very helpful and so nice to talk to (didn't make me feel rushed). Getting an appointment to bring in my new puppy was also not a long wait time. An extremely experienced Vet Tech named Nicky was amazing. Nicky not only got all the information into our new file in advance of our meeting the Vet, she also asked great questions, was gentle, kind, and provided a lot of very helpful information. Can't say anything positive about this clinic. They did a hatchet job on my pet's stitches after an accident, leaving significant unnecessary scarring. Came back for them to remove stitches and they missed some of them. Poor customer service along the way. Charged $1000 for this. I just adopted my dog and 2days later i had to bring him in for an issue, and 3days after that he ended up with an emergency problem and even though they were completely booked they took him in right away and ended up having to do a minor surgery but Dr. Heidi(hope i spelled that right) took $150 off my bill just because she felt bad i had just got him and already had issues. Took our pet for pre labs and to be seen for what appeared to be an infection on her external ear....The vet did not talk to me about the ear much. Took our dog for a few minutes and was given our dog back by a tech. No diagnosis/prognosis...The bill included medicine I did not receive. The medication was not discussed with me...I paid for it but did not receive it...I feel they neglected their jobs. they just half assed it and sent us away and charged us for it. If the Vet had the proper information she could have made a better diagnosis, any doctor/medic would. Mere minutes, and still they saw fit to charge me despite not having done their job. read more

I brought my senior dog in late 2018 because he was having trouble relieving himself and was not in a good way. Given his condition I decided to try local and not take him to his regular vet out of town. Check-in was fine and I thought the vet was nice and professional. The Dr. took samples for lab work and said they would call and advise the results in a few days in the meantime there are two medicines to put him on. This is where it goes downhill, The medicine instructions I received at the counter were different from those the Dr stated. By example don't start the second medicine until we contact you after we receive the test results and advise. They never called. I called them and was told oh you should 've started both meds right way and if we didn't call you then all is good.What???. I don't know that anyone ever looked at the test results. The best dog ever didn't really improve and about eight weeks later his reg vet diagnosed inoperable prostate cancer and gave him two weeks. He died in my arms two months later. Did the MVP office fail my dog?, I don't know, but clearly they had an inter-office communication problem and this whole thing nags me to this day and I won't go back. read more
