We are bringing our Puppy in for a Follow up for 3 months ago, our puppy had heart surgery, so we have been here a few times now, coming from Stockton. Worth the drive for a pet that you would call a family member. The campus grounds are super clean, lots of wildlife, birds, squirrels, etc. Not sure if they take any animal in, or if you have to have a referral, like we did from our local vet. And they were alot cheaper then the vet and had more openings.

I brought my dog here for emergency surgery after a serious injury to his leg. My local vet…read morereferred us there and had called ahead, so they were expecting us and had 2+ hours notice we were coming. (6PM arrival) Fast forward another 4+ hours to 10:30 PM. We finally get to talk to a resident, Dr. Olivia Taubenfeld, who tells me she doesn't think it's a degloving injury - without even examining him yet. I tell her I don't what that is, but describe seeing exposed tendons, ligaments, and possibly bone (which is also what I described when admitting him hours before.) Another 2+ hours go by and they finally examine him. (1AM) Dr. Taubenfeld's report? Degloving injury. Had anyone bothered to look under the temporary bandage put on by the first local vet, or even listened to my description of his wound, they would have seen and understood the severity of the injury. Now they're recommending amputation and treatment options have changed drastically because they neglected seeing him for so long. After getting a second opinion, I decide to pull him out of this hospital so he can get proper care. I'm told they'll do a wound cleaning first thing in the morning. I communicate persistently all day, making sure they're aware of my intention to transfer him that afternoon. I go to pick him up at 4 PM - they haven't cleaned his wound yet. I wait hours, desperate to get him out of there and to a vet who has the capacity to give him proper care and attention. At one point (6 PM) I can hear him crying and whining from behind one of their exam room doors. Apparently, they finally got around to cleaning his wound, only without proper sedation and pain management. Torture. Soon after, they bring him out of that room to me. While I'm carrying him to leave, as soon as we get outside, he starts peeing in my arms. (Sweet boy waited until he was outside.) I place him down, and he stands there peeing for I swear at least one 1 minute. His bladder had to be completely full. Had they even let him relieve himself the 24 hours he was there?! I will never bring another animal here.

The level of compassion and care that we received from her is unparalleled. She was so patient, kind, called with updates frequently, and genuinely cared about his well-being throughout his stay. When his condition got worse and had to be transferred to specialty hospital, she called hospitals multiple times, trying to get him admitted after being told they wouldn't take him and even escalated to her Director to also make phone calls. She fought for him - fought to keep him alive. After she was finally able to get a specialty care hospital to take him and he was transferred, she called daily to check up on him even after he was discharged from VEG. The world needs more doctors like her especially during difficult times. Dr. Matsuo is a kind human, who gives me hope again that there are doctors out there who actually care about their patients vs. focusing on volume. VEG is so incredibly lucky and fortunate to have her and I highly recommend that if your pet ever has the unfortunate need to go to VEG, you ask for Dr. Matsuo. We thank her so much for being so patient, having tenacity in fighting for patients, and being just an amazing, wonderful, compassionate person. We thank you so much for saving Pinot.

This…read morepast experience is in no way a negative against the staff as far as their customer service, but more of an "educational" review. I sent this email to them on 1/3, and I haven't received a response yet. Even when this incident occurred, the staff was attentive and went above and beyond to try to resolve the situation. I'm posting this for education to anyone who has a cat. This is a copy of my email on 1/3: Good morning, I wanted to personally write instead of posting a review on Yelp, about our experience when we brought Maple in on Sunday, December 28th. Our family has a long history of pets that we have brought in over the years, and we have never had a negative experience in any way, in fact, I have always spoke highly of the entire staff there when recommending to friends and family. I want to start off by staying that our experience on 12/28 was not a negative one with regards to the staff, but I am writing this email to bring something to your attention in hopes of educating staff to prevent this from happening in the future (and yes, it's not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" when cats are involved!). Maple has been very sick and multiple visits to her regular vet and your emergency, have happened the past month. We brought her to emergency on 12/28 in hopes of finding out what was wrong and finding a solution. Maple is a very nervous cat and doesn't like strangers, and she really did not like having anything shoved up her butt when she has been in a lot of discomfort due to the diarrhea. Maple was examined, then taken to the room for further testing. I wish I would have objected, but I trusted that staff would do their very best with regard to safety. Unfortunately, Maple escaped their hold and tried to find a place to hide, which was inside an open cabinet where there was an opening to the underside of the steel exam table. I'm sure I don't need to state how dangerous this is and could have been if the outcome was different. Cats are very unpredictable creatures, and after we were invited to go back to the room to try to coax her out, I was surprised at the lack of secure spaces for cats. I want to add that this ordeal ended up being just short of 9 hours at. We tried everything to get her out. This was an extremely stressful and upsetting time for my daughter and I and resulted in my being awake for 24 hours. My daughter ended up calling in sick for work since we left the vet around 6am. I was doing my best not to be upset at staff, but I feel like looking back, there is a bit of negligence on their part. My request is that staff is educated, more careful, and that there is some type of plan in place to mitigate any future occurrences. Maple was lucky. We were lucky that she didn't have a serious health condition and that she was healthy enough to be in that hole for that length of time. My ask is that you also find out from the manufacturer if there is a cover for the inside of that exam table, so that in the off-chance staff leaves that door open, that another cat will not have the same experience as Maple did. I look forward to your response.

Alternatives are always presented prior to obtaining our consent to treatment and we have never felt pressured into pursuing specific paths. Emergency needs and ongoing care are often expensive and that's just a fact, but it's up to the pet guardian to make choices based on a variety of factors. All care providers are reachable and communicative, and they make sure that you understand exactly what's going on with your pet so you can make an informed decision about how to proceed. The level of care is outstanding and I know my pup is in good hands here while she proceeds through her treatment with great results. Aside from the level of care, the facility is brand new. It is never crowded; it's clean, well-appointed, and doesn't feel like a hospital. Overall, I am very pleased with Vista and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs emergency care or a specialist for their pet.

I was in complete shock and that experience has haunted me for years. but they are the only ones that are open during times other hospitals aren't and even then there is no doctor available. the receptionist should all be fired . The way they talk to you will leave you in more distress. It's sad actually that nothing has been done about aloe if people's concern. even in reviews they try to hide and dismiss your review if it makes them look bad. I suggest be prepared. cause most times with an onsite doctor not available u 'em will have no choice but to go find an open vet elsewhere wich is usually out of town. At least know that you have a place as an alternative. it will save you precious time so you don't have to look through your phone trying to find another option whole your pet is dying , injured, or very ill. Remember you are going to a doctor that once said iITS JUST A BEARDED DRAGON. and staff that are perfectly okay of their unacceptable behavior towards those that are desperate to care and save thumper animals. they are all definitely in the wrong field for the wrong reasons. I haven't met or dealt with any staff that don't have a terrible attitude but I'm sure they're are exceptions but I haven't met one or spoke to one personally yet. I care about your animals even though I don't know you guys. This message is not meant to be defaming. but sometimes it's just the truth. And sometimes the truth is ugly. take care.
