I kept hearing about this place so I had to come check them out. I heard the chicken was spectacular. As I entered the establishment I was greeted by an older lady and she greeted me with a smile. She then told me she was the owner and her husband used to run the business. I ordered a three piece chicken which came with a leg, thigh, and a breast which came to twelve dollars. Every order is made to order so be prepared to wait twenty five to thirty minutes. The Fried Chicken was delicious. You could tell that when you bite into the chicken that it was marinated in a brine which gave it amazing flavor. The chicken was seasoned well, fried just right, and very juicy. That lady put her whole foot into cooking this chicken. I can see why her establishment has lasted this long. She serves simple but delicious food. The customer service was excellent and the owner really takes pride in her business. I would definitely be back again.

Broasterant, like most Hartford area restaurants with overall 4.5 Star ratings, made it on to my Try List. I'm rarely in that area so it took me a while to get there. But I finally did. The atmosphere is not a selling point, but wasn't a turnoff for me either. The inside looks like it was last updated around 1974. There is counter and table seating, but I didn't see anybody eat there in my 25 minutes inside. I gather they're mostly a takeout and delivery service restaurant at this point. Also, parking worked out for me in the lunch timeframe, but I suspect parking can be an issue at peak times. I parked about a city block away. After looking at the very limited menu, which includes Broasted chicken, seafood and fries, I decided on the $12 chicken plate, which had a broasted breast, thigh and drumstick, a bunch of fries and a roll. I would recommend ordering in advance. Things are made when you order. From the time I ordered, it took 25 minutes. What is broasted chicken? Essentially, it's chicken fried in a pressure cooker. I could hear sizzling the whole time I was there. LOL. The chicken was presented to me as a box, in a paper bag. When I opened the box, I saw a ton of fast food chain sized fries, which obscured the three pieces of golden brown chicken. The fries were about average for this style of fry. The roll was decent, but not a draw. The chicken looked fairly standard, but it was way above average taste-wise. The seasoning was not complex. I suspect it was mostly just salt and pepper. But the chicken was well-seasoned. Definitely better tasting than I expected from the appearance. The inner and outer texture were good too. Fried chicken and fries are not things that travel particularly well. So I'd recommend eating it somewhere soon after you pick it up. I imagine Broasterant is popular with people who work in Hartford and I can definitely see ordering chicken and bringing it back to work. Four Stars

I was talking about food with my co-worker. He was telling me that this restaurant has the best fried chicken in Hartford. ordered the chicken plate that comes with one thigh, two legs, fries, and a deliciously soft roll. You don't walk into this place expecting to get your food in 5. 2 seconds. I could not wait to bite into this chicken. it was piping hot because the chicken is prepared in a steamed pressure cooker. I can not believe I have never been to this restaurant. This chicken is banging, crispy and juicy. I loved that it wasn't oily. This restaurant has been in business since 1957. It's the oldest establishment on Park street. To my yelpers when you are in Hartford, Connecticut, in the south end area. Stop in and enjoy the best-fried chicken in Hartford, CT. Let's continue eating our way throughout the world.

8 Pieces Chicken

I stopped by here two Monday nights ago by myself for dinner. I had been looking for a quick takeout place somewhat near my hotel whenever I found Broasterant on Yelp with its 4 1/2 stars on 40 reviews. Broasted chicken? Sure why not and so I headed over. It wasn't in the best neighborhood but I was just getting it to go and so I wasn't terribly concerned. The inside of the place sort of reminded me of a diner. It had a couple of booths done in fire engine red as well as a lunch counter with 6 seats. There was a tv on the lunch counter and a fish tank against the back wall. Finally the walls were decorated with pictures of what I assume was classic Hartford (a lot were black and white) since I could at least recognize the colt dome. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the 8 piece chicken and that was it. So I ordered it and sat down to wait until it was ready. About 25 minutes later it was ready, I paid and got out of there and headed back to my hotel. Whenever I was finally able to try the chicken it was still quite warm. Its breading on the outside was surprisingly light and airy while having a great crispiness to it. Meanwhile the chicken on the inside was cooked perfectly and was still moist and juicy. Since 8 pieces is a lot of chicken, I wasn't able to finish all of it and wish that I could have ordered less. However I get why you can't since its cooked fresh and has to go through that whole broasting process. The bottom line for me is that I would stop back here again in the future. My chicken was good and it had a breading unlike any other that I have had before.

I go to this place once in a while for the fried chicken. The location doesn't look that great. Every time I have gone here, I was the only person dining in. I see a lot of take outs and delivery from here. Fried chicken seems to be their top selling item. It didn't have a lot of spices. I also liked the onion rings.

I don't know how they usually do it, but I like my fries well done - not black but light brown and very crispy.

First off, the ambience of the place is fairly nice though you would not know it from how many of the other patrons choose to attire themselves. If you're looking for a upscale, dining experience, other patrons would suggest this is not the place for you. They started off by attending to put us at the wrong table per our reservation. The table was apparently filled, and they moved us to a different table, which was perfectly fine as it was a nice booth with a window right next to the table. They then gave us several menus from which to choose, which was confusing as there were so many different menus with similar food options, including brunch, menu, a burger, menu, a dinner menu, a Mother's Day, special menu, and the regular menu. There were also two separate drink menus. We started by ordering some drinks and an appetizer of the meat and cheeseboard for the table. We put in our full order at just before 12:59 PM and the meat and cheeseboard came out fairly quick. Overall, it was the best part of our time at the restaurant. With regards to our main meal, we had ordered an eggs, Benedict, a children's pancake and bacon, special, and a steak and eggs meal. That was apparently a mistake as it took them over one hour six minutes before the food hit the table and when it did, it was a mess. The medium rare steak was cooked to a well done with the eggs being extremely messy and not very runny for over easy. The potatoes were dark and charred in places, but we're not crispy by any stretch of the imagination. The Canadian bacon had not been rendered well on the eggs Benedict and one of the two poached eggs clearly had not been poached appropriately. Also, my daughter indicated that the syrup was way too sweet, which was especially surprising as she is someone with a sweet tooth. The pancakes themselves were extremely dense and unfair and served on a plastic tray missing one of the size that was supposed to come with the order. It is clear that the kitchen does not know what they are doing as I was the second person in a row to have issues with the cook temperature on my steak, a problem that appears to carry over to other aspects of the meal as well. At the one hour mark, I've been so frustrated. I had requested to speak with a manager and he was actually the one who brought out the food to our table. There was a good four minute gap between two of the meals being brought out and the third meal, which is what my wife had ordered for her Mother's Day brunch. By the time the eggs Benedict came out, I showed the manager my stake and eggs, and he agreed that it was cooked to a well done rather than the medium rare I had ordered. I had overheard the exact same issue on the next table over where the older woman had not gotten her meal until nearly all seven others at the table had completed their food. At that point, I sent back my steak and indicated I did not want it to be remade as I was done with the place. Shirley, thereafter, I was clear the rest of the family was of the same mind as the meals were a mess and cooked improperly. The manager eventually came over and indicated that he is going to take care of the entire CHUCK which makes sense sense more than 75% of the food ordered had been uneaten or inedible. The service was no better as waiters and waitresses would walk by and failed to refill empty water glasses, even though they would look right at the empty water glass and would have pictures of water in their hand at times. One waitress went to five separate tables around us, including table she was not serving and failed to fill our water, but filled water at other tables. Our waiter was also missing an action for a good portion of the meal. Despite having the meal taken care of, I did leave a small tip for the waiter, though nowhere near what I would have had the service been even somewhat competent. This is a major disappointment as the last experience I had at this restaurant for dinner had been so positive it convinced me to book the place for Mother's Day brunch. I'm not sure if this was a one off situation but I would never recommend a return to this place based on the experience I had this day. What's worse, our reservation appeared to fall between two rushes as we were the second table in the rush that showed up about 10 to 15 minutes after our arrival at the place. As such, our food should've been fairly quick and coming out but others who ordered their food more than 20 minutes after our table received it with no problem. I have to say that the Taco Bell we had as result of this poor food service was Myles and Myles better than the food experience at the restaurant itself.

My wife Statler chicken was crisp and juicy. But you can also get incredible looking sandwiches. My eyes locked onto the cod reuben. How unusual, yet easy to understand. Entrees stay in the mid 30s, so don't expect a cheap night if you add an appetizer, wine and dessert. (Btw, ask to tour the wine closet). However, farm fresh food is worth it to me. The room is good looking and comfortable. It is a little noisy with all the happy people, but not too bad at all. I will be back. And I will bring my picky friends visiting from New York.

Holy 6 pound baby Jesus they were good. They came out piping hot and the cheese was in a bubbling side dish. This isn't your typical dab of cheese in a plastic condiment container that is commonplace nowadays. I had the Arturo Sandoval (spin on a Cuban) as my entree and it was also fabulous and came out hot. If I was being critical, the pork was a wee bit dry, but that happens sometimes and it really didn't take away from the sando. Even the small side of pasta salad was outstanding. I'm lucky if I eat sides like that 1/100 times and this one I couldn't wait to finish. Great vibe, great staff, great food, and live music almost every day. Definitely gonna go back and if it's just as good will update to 5 stars.
