A chic and trendy addition to Downtown Martinez. I love the exposed brick wall and local photography art on the walls. My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday evening to enjoy a glass of wine with an appetizer of charcuterie. We sat up at the bar, which is rather large and were instantly greeted by the bartender. I had a glass of red and my boyfriend had a glass of white. Wines by the glass ranged from $9-$14, and we both enjoyed our picks. To create the charcuterie board you order each cheese and meat individually. It was also served with some grilled onions, jam, and crostini's. They did provide you with a decent amount of cheese and meat, however I wish we could have opted to have a bit less to get more varieties. We had an adult scavenger hunt downtown a few months ago. The owner Corey, and his polite staff were very accommodating to all of us when we included his establishment as part of our scavenger hunt. We had 3 groups of 30 people come in throughout that day, and were all treated well. The service is excellent, and they have a great selection of top shelf alcohol. 5 stars!!! read more

I was so happy to see Bar Cava was still open, and perfectly arrange for outdoor seating. My friend and I stopped by for a quick glass of wine and a bite to eat. We ordered the delicious burger and A bottle of TAMARIX (by recommendation). I put Tamarix in all caps because it was that delicious! With exposed brick walls & rustic decor, it's almost like a wine cave you might see in Napa, which is a plus for making a mini date feel more intimate. We snagged a table (open seating?) behind the bar and within a minute the bartender Steven made eye contact to acknowledge us and to let us know he'd be taking our orders. Nice pour and the food pairing did well with my platelet..minus the oyster one (was not a fan of that...needed more lemon or Tabasco for me.) Wife and I had a good time here on date night. Really small space that is intimate. The cava was great but the flatbread pizza was the best part. They get their bread from 54 mint in Walnut Creek and it's excellent. I hope that more and more restaurants move to downtown Martinez because it really is a cool place. read more

This was my visit to Cava and when you walk in your first view is the beautiful bar with a vast selection of wines. They also offer beers on tap for those non-wine lovers. I think this is a great addition to downtown Martinez! We went with friends on a Friday night and it was packed. Before we had the chance to be turned off by the lack of tables (and space in general), we were greeted warmly and encouraged to tuck ourselves into a (standing) spot while they got us drinks. They have a very nice wine list, as well as beer if wine isn't your thing. The dude helping us noted that a few tables seemed to be finishing up so we shouldn't have to wait long. Sure enough, before we even got our wine, a spot opened up in the back. "The way end" table, as it was called on our check, is a shallow shelf thing. We were content standing, although our server insisted on bringing us stools from the back, so we were able to settle in. In addition to wine, we shared some bites. They've got a nice list of meats and cheese to choose from, as well as other bites and salads and such. We opted for chorizo, serrano ham, manchego, and humboldt fog, all of which were delicious and accompanied by grapes, almonds, and crostini. We'll be back. read more

Awesome bar with great bartenders, spectacular drinks and a great owner. Corey the owner is a good dude with a great sense of humor and likes to banter with the clientele. They have great bands on the weekends and the place is hoppin'. The artisan pizzas there are incredible. I would argue they're some of the best pizzas in the Bay area. Highly recommended!! It can get a little loud out on main Street during the weekends as a lot of the restaurants have bands playing out in the street but it's a fun time since the whole street is blocked off for foot traffic only. Feeling a bit mixed based on my first experience but genuinely think this is an amazing addition to dt martinez !!! I also think it is hard to get 5 stars on your first official night being open- which is when we went! They opened on new years night and a group of about 7 of us came in. It was jam packed!!! First of all- there was a very scary bouncer at the front door. He immediately asked us "have you been drinking?! Where did you come from?!". Uhm WTF?! We were all sober!!! Not that it was any of his business!!! Its not like we were stumbling. So rude. The owner Corey then greeted us once we got in and explained drunk people had been coming from the dive bars down the street (whiskey lane and nu rays) and causing a scene. I get it- but i did feel uncomfortable. Since when do wine bars need bouncers?!? Lol. My experience did not get off on a good foot. He damn near scared us away. It is a small place- you could barely move in there. There is not a lot of seating and we all had to stand the entire time. It was also hot as hellll and Corey explained that something happened with the AC so it should be fixed. No big deal. Onto the wine (thank god!). Not a hugeee wine list but definitely great options for what they do have! Glasses run 9-15ishhh. Not bad! I had a nice white, and then 2 glasses of the still rosé. 3 glasses of yummy wine for $30- i really enjoyed both. I was not able to order food but what i saw coming out looked yummy! My friend did not have a drink so Corey poured her a little glass of vintage Dom- that was sweet. Although- he was a bit flirty with her Lol! I cant wait to come back when they have ironed out some kinks and are less crowded. I am really happy to have a wine bar walking distance from me house!!! Woop woop! read more
