One constructive criticism. I spend 7%-10% of my annual salary here. I asked the asst mgr do you give healthcare discounts? Well... I'll never ask that young man anything again. I was genuinely taken aback. The store is CLEAN,ORGANIZED, SET UP WELL, Social distancing and effective measures are IN PLACE at this local favorite. "If you are that afraid then you shouldn't be in this store"!!! This was the response that I received when I asked the Brinkmans True Value clerk assisting me and my wife to put his mask on. He then continued to say, "Masks are not mandatory". Oh really...Well a) according to the sign as you walk into the store they are required in your store and b) according to the executive order issued by Gov. Cuomo in April they are if you can't adequately social distance by 6'. Also, we noticed that when we walked into the store, this particular clerk was in conversation with his fellow workers not wearing a mask while everyone else was. This incident occurred on Wednesday, mid afternoon, August 5th, 2020 at the Miller Place Brinkman True Value Store. I should also point out that while all of the other store employees were wearing a mask, this particular clerk only had a bandana type mask around his neck. I brought this exchange to the manager's attention where she immediately replied that his comment was unacceptable. That is great, but why was there not something said earlier to this individual when we saw him with no face covering while they were congregated in the front of the store talking? I left the items that I was going to buy on the counter and told the manager that I will NOT be buying the sought after items that I came to the store to buy today and will NEVER return to a Brinkman's True Value store again....You are right this is unacceptable! I hope that management takes some type of disciplinary action against this individual. Whatever his personal beliefs may be are fine, but they should not carry over into the workplace where there are rules and policies and at the same time put the public at great risk by his irresponsible, negligent behavior. The frontline workers are to be hailed as true hero's during this horrible pandemic...this person is NOT one of them. read more

He looked at me and said " a nice amount " I asked if he could be more specific and he looked at me dead eyed and said a nice amount .. Very knowledgeable staff and helpful. Not a big chain store. Bought a Weber grill here. They assembled it themselves free of charge and delivered it the same day. Also bought a grill cover. A bit more expensive but helpful staff and you don't have the ridiculous lines you would have at Home Depot. They carry quite a bit of different products. read more

I was at the Sayville location this afternoon to purchase a paint sample and to ask a question about how many cans of paint I need to buy. I had the dimensions of the room, the foyer and the hallway that my friend wrote down for me. After we left, my eight-year-old daughter told me that she was able to see under the employee's hat because of her size and saw him roll his eyes multiple times when I was unable to answer some of his questions about the measurements. In a society with so many single mothers doing their best, it is upsetting to me that my daughter saw a man treat her mother with such little patience and respect. Beware of their location on Railroad Ave in Sayville. NYS does NOT charge tax on American flags (USA), State Flags (NY) POW and Military flags. Doesn't matter how big or how much the flag cost - there is NO tax in NYS. But, I was charged tax on a USA flag that I bought on 6/30/19. This is not a new law. The clerk (Ken F.) was extremely rude to me when I mentioned the law to him, telling me to go look it up. The nerve. I wonder how many times they charge tax (do they keep that money???). read more

I just went to Brinkmans Hardware store in Sayville. I brought a screen window to be fixed. They originally said that it would be ready in about 2days. When I explained that I needed it for the only window I had, they quickly accommodated me in about 15 minutes! The guys were so sweet and understanding to my situation. I had called Home Depot to find out that they not only do not fix screens, but they referred me to Brinkmans Hardware too! I would recommend Brinkmans Hardware store to everyone for all your hardware needs! Looking around the store while waiting for the screen, I noticed that they have a wide range of everything. Excellent local hardware store. The staff knows you on a first name basis and they know their stuff. Decent selection, considering it is a rather small store. The Blue Point store is owned and operated by the same folks, but is a bigger store with a much greater selection. I highly recommend Brinkmann if you do not have the time to mess around in Home Depot or Lowe's. A lot of the time, items at Brinkmann even cost less than they would had you purchased them Home Depot or Lowe's. Support our local hardware stores, Brinkmann Sayville & Blue Point! For that matter, support every other Mom & Pop operation in Sayville, West Sayville, Oakdale, Bohemia, Bayport, Blue Point and any place else you can think of! On a sad, and unrelated note, I was very sad to see Thornhill's Pharmacy shutter it's doors a few years back. It was there when I was just a wee child; It was there when my Parents, Grandparents, Great-Grandparents and possibly my Great-Great-Grandparents were children as well, Besides folks, for crying out loud, Thornhill's Pharmacy had the first telephone number [589-0001] in The Hamlet Of Sayville!
