Heather does an AWESOME job! If you need hair extensions or coloring, she is your girl! I have naturally shoulder length, very thin hair. I had a bad experience with glue in extensions which didn't match and ruined my hair. After consulting Heather, she suggested that we do micro bead extensions instead. BEST decision EVER! Since my hair has been colored multiple times previously and still didn't look good, we decided to just put in some highlights to get my balyage to blend better instead of completely ruining my hair and coloring it all again. I attached some pictures so you can see how she blended things for me to get the perfect balyage. She started doing these extensions for me back in April and I have had the same hair in this whole time. You do have to go in every 2-3 months and get the hair adjusted but it feels brand new every adjustment. I'm very happy with Heathers work and recommend her to anyone, especially someone who has hair extensions. read more

I came in to see if anyone could squeeze me in. I'm pregnant and haven't been feeling well, so appointments are really hard to do. Last thing anyone needs is a nauseous pregnant lady in their chair! Kelly D was on her way out the door, but was super sweet and made space for me! I've got long, thick hair and a low maintenance routine. She did a great job and gave me exactly what I wanted, taking her time and even putting waves in it before I left so I could have it styled for a day without the effort. The customer service and staff were very friendly and real warm to me when i came in for an eyelash tint and brow tint but i must say that the outcome of how they looked was a complete disaster. I was told after some time they would gradually lighten and become more natural looking and that never happend i had to wait for all the color to grow out before i could go and get them redone elsewhere which after four months i can now go and do. I have no hate for the salon just giving real feedback and stating my experience. Even tho it isn't to far from home and in a nice area of town sadly i will not be returning. read more

Horrible customer service and scheduling. Originally went in and asked about spiral perms looking for a stylist who has experience, was told Alisha did and set an appointment a few weeks out. Arrived to the appointment to be told she was not currently do perms due to medical issues. That's fine I get that, but seriously the receptionist could not remember that she was on medical leave and not doing perms!! Okay so not the stylist fault, although I have had to take time off work, and loose pay, I decided I would give them a second chance. Talked with Alisha about who could do the perm, she stated 3 other names and we went up front to schedule. Starting with the most experienced person Joey they where weeks out again. Was able to schedule with Tina at 12:30 the following week. Arrived for the scheduled appointment to be told the appointment was crossed out? What does that even mean? Oh and had to again take time off work and loose pay! Receptionist stepped away to get Tina who informed me she did not even see it on the bold because the appointment was made then cancelled and she was not sure how it could have been made since she had other appointments already scheduled. Are you kidding me right now! It's not that hard to click into a calendar look for an open slot and type a f'ing name! When asked to speak to the owner I was told they are all independent so there is no real owner. Someone owns the building, someone hired you to rent a location from the building, someone will be loosing business from word of mouth! I'm sorry nothing we can do except schedule you again a few weeks out! Umm no thank you. If you can't make a simple appointment, I am surly not going to trust anyone there with my hair! After waiting over a month and already giving this salon a second chance, it's too bad they will loose my local business. I recommend whoever hires the idiot receptionist to have a simple review of basic computer scheduling and how to do her job! read more

So when so when is called to make an appointment do an all over color I told the receptionist that I had very long a thick hair and I wanted to get a price estimate then made the appointment. When got to my appointment the stylist seemed upset because she had no warning that My hair was long and thicker then she was prepared for. She seemed very rushed and I left with dye all over the back of my neck and ears. Not to mention the whole place smelled like acrylic and it looks a mess. Won't be returning. read more

I saw Nikki for a cut and color and highlights, and she didn't do as well as I thought for being in the business for 3 years and supposedly loving it. She was in a hurry to finish with me because her friend came in. That was a doozie. Anyway... After chatting about my lifestyle, and determining that I do not style my hair, so I wanted a flattering, low maintenance cut, she instead recommended that I style it at the very end when I wasn't very happy with the cut. She made blunt cuts across the bottom and only feathered after I told her to. Seriously? I shouldn't have to tell you how to cut. You should be able to chat with me for an hour + during the coloring process to determine what I do and how I live and visualize what I say I want, and create it (up your consultative skills girlfriend). Creation implies NO BLUNT STRAIGHT ACROSS CUTS! As for the color.. She was seriously sloppy. She foiled my hair in a very unorganized crazy way. There was no method to the madness. She should have done the foil top down, evenly from where I part my hair to ensure the highlights didnt blotch and overlap with the main color. Her friend was waiting in the booth behind us, and every time I asked Nikki to keep cutting (she kept stopping prematurely, she was seriously in a hurry) more hair off, her friend would snicker. How's that for customer service. She didn't ask me any questions about the cut, which I did not like. I came in knowing I wanted shorter hair, and different colors in it. From there, she should have probed. Not everyone has a picture of a model from a book they point to and say, "I want that." You do hair, Nikki! Be creative. Talk to your potential long term client. Build your business. The whole experience was kind of meh. I've DEFINITELY had better salon experiences elsewhere. read more

I have been going to Susan Brill for many years. She now runs Brilliance Spa and still is behind the chair 3 days a week. What keeps bringing me back is not just the wonderful job she does on my hair, it's that she has standards for her business. With the re-opening due to the COVID crisis, it is even more challenging to run a successful business. Susan cares about people and goes above and beyond the requirements set forth by the State. She has several stylists that have been working in the salon for years.... that's not something you see in alot of places anymore. Susan works very hard to ensure her people have what they need, while still holding them to a very high standard. I, for one, appreciate this. The salon is always clean, the hair washing stations are taken care of, same with the hair drying chairs. There are several salons in the same area of downtown Gresham and you can see through the window, they are not up to the same cleanliness standards as Brilliance Salon. Thank you Susan! I really liked this place for a while. However, the last two times I came for some relaxation, it was very loud. Wasted my money on a massage that kept being interrupted by loud outbursts at the nail tables which are on other side of wall. The MT is really good but they need a quieter spot for her. read more

I am so happy here! A few months back I was new to the Portland/Gresham area and when I looked up salons this place seemed really awesome. I now go to heather for all of my hair needs, she is just fantastic! She always listens to what I want and I have the best results everytime, she's very personable and it's a nice visit. I also go to Lori Anderson upstairs for my brows and let me just saw she has transformed mine! She really puts in the time to make sure they're exactly how I want, and they come out beautifully everytime. And for an occasional mani I see Desiree, she's the best! I received a gift certificate for my birthday. The services paid for: one hour massage, manicure and pedicure and hair wash and blow dry. Massage was excellent! $45.00 because I was a first time client. Manicure and Pedicure $72.00. That equals $117.00, now mind you, the gift certificate was $125.00. My bad - easy to add; nevertheless, the nail lady said I owed $10.00. I paid and I tipped her! Kinda think she tipped herself. Bad business practice. I have read the very few bad reviews on here, and find it funny that someone would think the good reviews are fake. From personal experience I know they're not. Kelly D has been doing my hair since 2005. When I found her, it was after 3 years of bad cuts and colors from "so called stylists". She has done nothing but the best for me. I have never received a bad cut or color from her. My mom even goes to Kelly and is very happy with all she does. I will be going there to get my nails done too, since I haven't found the level of expertise or service I require from anywhere else. I recommend always meet with a potential stylist first, interview them, show t hem what you want, let them look at your hair, fell it etc. Just because you want hair like your favorite celeb, doesn't mean your hair can do what theirs does. Be smart about the process, don't automatically blame a stylist cause you don't look like Kristen Stewart or Katie Holmes. If you didn't walk in looking like them, you probably won't walk out looking like them either. read more

Heather Navarro is just as good as everyone says she is, if not better. I went to her with a hack job from another stylist. After showing her pictures of what I wanted and explaining it a little bit, Heather made everything right again. She painted on beautiful ombre highlights that she finished with a rose-tinged toner for a gorgeous rose gold effect that is very subtle and works brilliantly with my skin tone. She cleaned up the haircut and finished the job by giving me 5-minute beachy waves that lasted all day. I got so many compliments! I can't say enough good things about Heather! read more

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and decided I wanted to donate my hair to a charity that makes free human hair wigs for children with hair loss. I had never been to Brilliance Salon & Day Spa, but walk by it all the time so decided I'd give it a shot. I walked in with no appointment and was told they could get me in with Alicia about 20 minutes from when I walked in. Great!! I decided to just wait there since it wasn't that long of a wait. Alicia finally showed up almost 10 minutes late. When I told her I was starting chemo in a few days and wanted to donate it, she proceded to argue with me about whether or not I could donate it since it has been colored in the past (but not recently). I explained I had done my research and they would take it so she went ahead and tied it up to cut for donation. Come on....don't argue with a woman who has just been diagnosed with a disease with a treatment that will take her hair!! She was very quiet and somewhat unfriendly for the remainder of the cut. When I told her I figured that if I couldn't use my hair (since I'll be losing it to chemo in a couple of weeks) then someone else should be able to use it, she made some stupid comment about how "yeah...I have extensions and I use them". REALLY??? I'm not donating them for self absorbed people like you to have extensions!!! She never even stood in front of me to check to see that both sides were the same length. I had to tell her that one side was longer than the other and have her fix it. All in all, not a very pleasant experience to top off an already really bad week!!! read more

Update on my last review of this place. It's now been over a month since my "chop job", as I find it difficult to call what I recieved...a haircut and definitely NOT a hairstyle. ..so yeah, chop job is the most appropriate phrase I can think of. I was hoping that growing it out a little would help to ease the awful shaping that was done to my hair, but not so. It's apparent that this crappy cut is going to take a long time to grow out to a half way decent state. I'm still reeling from the fact that I trusted this place because of all the great reviws! However, after getting such a horrible cut I am astounded by all the "positive" reviews about Brilliance Salon and kinda question their validity...I guess it wouldn't be difficult for a business to create phoney profiles and then submit great reviews in order to bump up their ratings. I read a few articles on Google about it and found out that it's actually quite common. That said, I can safely assume that some of those positive reviews are probably fake. Brilliance Salon, in my opinion, from my personal experince, is amateur at best. They don't charge much, therefore you don't get much. As the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for" and no truer words have been spoken to describe Brilliance Salons bad service. Supposedly, the woman who did my hair has over 30 years of experience, however, it's obvious that she: A. Does not keep up with the latest trends B. Is really tired of doing hair, therefore she just does a crappy job and/or C. She just has really bad taste and no skill/talent. All-in-all, what I have drawn from this bad experience is this -- DO NOT GO BY ONLINE REVIEWS ALONE!!!! Instead, get personal recommendations from people with great haircuts and use online reviews o ly as a rough guideline about a business' reputation. I believe I speak for everyone when I say that we all have had a bad experience getting our hair done, and as ladies who take pride in how we look it is NEVER fun to have to wait a couple of days to re-dye hair to a not gross color or wait even longer until your hair grows out of that cut that makes us look like we are in middle school again. Good news everyone this place does not disappoint, especially my stylist and now good friend Nikki Smith. I am so indecisive with what I want to do every time I go in, and with her expertise we can always figure out what I would like that would actually hold in my hair and/or look good on me. She never disappoints either, she takes the info I give her and turns it into something even better. The best part is that it is for a dang good price. I have really thick, long hair and often was paying upwards of $120 for a full weave at other salons, which isn't even terrible pricing, but it's even better with Nikki. Nikki is happy to answer questions ahead of time about pricing and costs and that made me feel so comfortable and not waiting until the end to charge you. She has reasonable prices for the amazing work she does with my hair that always makes me so happy. It isn't enough though to say that she is a magician doing your hair, but also a trusting and kind friend and ear. She is super easygoing and keeps a fun atmosphere while she has you in her chair. I could ramble on forever and try to convince you to schedule an appointment today, but I stop by saying from lady to lady she puts in 110% effort to keep her clients happy and satisfied. read more
