As soon as I walked in I told them I wanted a fill in and two pedicures one for my mom and one for myself. She starts with my mom's pedicure and halfway through she says she can't start mine because of a client that walked in at 11:30 for an 11:50 appointment. I tell her I can't do that as im visiting out of state and I had come by once yesterday and was turned down that's why I made it a priority to come today right when they opened at 11. She agrees finished with my mom and disregards her request for a French and design once she was done with a pedicure. Then she brings me to my seat and starts with my nails. Prior to her doing my nails I asked her multiple times if she could do certain colors and designs, I wanted a two color french which she said she'd be able to do. After she finishes putting the base color and goes to start the design I tell her this is not what I wanted, and she starts fussing and says she does not have the colors I wanted. I tell her okay then let's just do the simple design I had on my nails before (stripes and dots like the y2k style) she starts that with a different color and I tell her this is not what I wanted at all. At this point im looking at my nails absolutely devastated . and she rushes me to the register, I look at her blankly and say that I had asked for a pedicure as well right when I walked in. Been going here for years. They are extremely friendly while still being professional, and always do a great job. I got a pedicure there in May and it still hasn't chipped off lol. They are very gentle when waxing and will check in periodically to make sure you are okay. I have not done acrylics with them before, so I cannot comment on that, but I am very satisfied with regular and gel mani/pedis. read more

I will never set foot in this "nail salon" again. I came in as a walk-in a week and a half ago and wanted to get a set of pink and white nails (as is advertised on their price list in the salon). When I told my technician what I wanted, she rudely and abruptly told me, "we no do 'pink and white'", at first not offering any alternative. After she looked at my puzzled expression for a moment, she claimed she could achieve the same effect with dip powder. The result is the worst set of nails I've ever had on my hands. My hair started snagging on them after just one week. What a waste of $45!!! This place used to be my regular as I live around the corner...but after today, NEVER AGAIN! When I walked in I was told there would be a 30 min wait and I was fine with that even though the owner was finishing her current client and no one else was waiting. She did indicate she had an appointment coming. She ended up starting my pedicure after her next client was 10 minutes late. Her client walks in 15 min. past her appointment time and she stops my pedicure to go to her LATE client. I then waited another 35 minutes for someone to actually start my pedicure. I was going to chalk it up to it being a Saturday until the lady who ended up doing my pedicure got annoyed when I pointed out the cuticles she missed and then the uneven nail polish coat. I knew she was annoyed because she started speaking in her native tongue and the other workers started laughing and looking and me and then my toes. I regularly go to Bright Star nails for a quick mani/pedi or waxing. It is alway busy and I have to wait a bit. Since I usually don't have an appointment I don't mind waiting for services. The day before my wedding, I made an appointment for 6 people. We were not seen until 30-45 minutes after our scheduled appointments which delayed us for our other pre-wedding errands. That automatically deducts a star. I usually get a pretty good mani there. Day before the wedding, it was miserable. I brought in a brand new Essie nail polish but for some reason the manicurist could not figure out how to use it. Weird, I know. So, she made me choose another color. She didn't even cut my cuticles. Sadly, the mani didn't even last 2 days before it started chipping. read more

This is my go to nail salon. I generally see Amy or Jenny but all of the folks are quite lovely. They do beautiful job with both acrylic and natural nails and they have a solid technique. I walked in and was reasonably impressed. Nice looking little shop for the area. I asked the woman who checked me in whether they do shellac manicures, and she said yes. I started off with a pedicure (regular--no one informed me of the other options). The nail tech spent a long time cutting my cuticles (which hurt a lot more than I'm used to) and taking care of my feet. The end result was fine. My cuticles have never looked better...but I'm not sure it was worth the pain. I should have said something when she started doing my nails, but they DON'T do shellac. I've never had a gel manicure before...but that's what she did. She also really really cut my cuticles. Two of them bled. I can't wash dishes with hot water because my lacking cuticles. Overall, service was okay. It took TWO HOURS for a gel manicure and regular pedicure...which I thought was a long time. Everything looks good...but I didn't appreciate being mislead about the type of service I'd receive or the painful cuticle treatments. read more

This location is convenient so I go here alot but they do not carry O.P.I colors and alot of the colors are on the lamer side, I guess for the older ladies that go there, they cater to them more. But they have the massaging chairs and a spa pedicure that rubs this sand all over your legs and makes it super soft. There is only one guy working there I can't remember his name but he is the best one in there. I used to go to a nail spot a block away from Wheaton Metro, until the place started to become extremely busy (my nail tech started making me wait over an hour). So I had been desperately trying to find a new salon. Firstly, it's so extremely convenient for me since it's on the way home! Secondly, I luckily on my first visit found my soul-mate nail tech. Her name is Mercedes, she's so sweet and she really focuses on details doing my nails. When she removes my cuticles I only begin to see them START budding 2 1/2 weeks later. Don't know how you removed my review but here it is again. Bullied and embarrassed!! About a month ago I went to bright star for a gel manicure. A 'nail tech' did a terrible job. It gel was on thick and had like waves on my nails. The manager (didn't know this at the time) came to try to fix and was not able to make a repair. I let them know that I was not happy with the work and that I did not like it at all. Well, the first nail tech must of taken offense that I let her know that it was not a good job. She gave me a look of disgust from that moment on until I paid and left. On my way home I was thinking that she was not nice and decided to call and speak with the manger. I told her about the attitude the nail tech had, and she agreed. The manager also told me to come back during the week and would do it all for free. Didn't have a chance to come by because of work and just figured if I ever decide to go back, I'll just get another tech and forget about it. Yesterday I went to get my nails done, and as soon as I walked in the original nail tech, saw me and gave me the death stare. Then she started talking in their native language to others in the salon. I was there before others yet everyone else 'had an appointment'. So when I finally said something, a man attended me, which I don't mind there are a lot of men nail tech that can do great work. What a mistake, very passive aggressive and laughing with the original nail tech while speaking in their language. Asking me 3 times about the colors I had chosen, and giggling when he saw I get frustrated when I answered him the third time. Of course, I don't know if they were speaking about me but I can see the original girls face when I would look over and she was looking right at me. The male tech was very passive aggressive as I mentioned but also would disappear time to time and I would have to wait for him. He would have like a sly smile on him and giggling every time he came back. I felt bullied by these people, and was very frustrated and saddened that there are people that treat their paying customers this way. Instead realizing they made a mistake on my first visit and learn from it, their idea of professionalism is to bully the clients that complain. I was also surprised an adult man would treat a woman this way. I have never seen this before hopefully never feel the way this man made me feel. In my opinion, this place should be avoided. Everyone makes mistakes while learning or even being seasoned. But no one should behave in such a disgusting way as the techs in this salon did when a more than obvious mistake was made. Just fix it if you can, learn from it and move on. Not be on the defense and bully others. Especially when every single customer is helping to put food on your table and a roof over your head. I have been going to this salon since the 2nd week it opened over 10 years ago. However, it is now has a new owern and I have given them 4 chances. No more. All of the old techs are gone, the new ones do not seem to know what they are doing, and do not listen to what you have requested. The last 3 times I have specifically asked for a fill, an acrylic fill. The tech said you want gel? I said no more than once, no. Then he asked if I wanted a special brow and lip wax for $8, and I said okay since I was getting an eyebrow wax anyway. Plus I got a pedi. Anyway, when I went to pay they told me the price as $67!!!!!! And that I was being charged for GEL and for the lip waxing! Now, the time before they had overcharged me $5, but I paid it. The last time I said NOOOOOO, I am not paying that. I am paying only for what I asked for. After some discussion, and the owner being quite apologetic, I paid the "right" price. I have to say I am DONE with this salon. You never know what they are going to charge you, the quality is not what it was before, and all the techs do is try to sell you more services and then jack up the prices. All I can say is that I gave them a fair shot, and they have failed. I am very sad to see this salon fail so miserably as it is so convenient for me. read more

Good clean salon. The staff is efficient and does a great job with mani and pedi. My nails don't chip as quickly as they do with other salons and they do a great job cleaning up cuticles. Bright Star Nails is clean and friendly. I think I've had pedicures from nearly all the staff at this point (i always show up without an appointment and have never had to wait more than 10 or 15 minutes) and they are pretty consistent in the job they do across the board. The staff always remember you and your preferences, which is a bonus. The spa pedicures are relatively new and definitely worth the extra 5 bucks for the hot stone massage, etc. Credit cards are accepted, but tips are cash only, as with most salons in the area. read more

This shop recently changed management and all the old technicians are gone. I had been going here for years and to see all the old techs no longer working here was a disappointment. I am not one to discourage anyone from patronizing a place of business but this review has been building up for me over the past couple of months. The new techs don't seem to be as careful with cuticle care. Three times I've had cuts to cuticles. At one point, I had to stop the tech from touching an already cut cuticle that had bled. He was about to clip it again and I had to pull my hand away. I always get gel nails and twice the nail polish has peeled which never happened with the old technicians. But the straw that broke the camels back was today when I went in to get my nails done and the technician was having me soak my fingers in a bowl of acetone. I have NEVER had that done before and I could feel the chemical burning. Yeah, I know it's put on to remove the gel but very small amounts on a piece of cotton is how it is usually done. Well, it was that act that made me finally reallize this was not the nail salon for me. I got up and headed for the door and told the woman I was leaving and that I was not going to soak my fingers in a bowl of acetone. She said she would wrap them for me but at that point, I had already made up my mind I was walking out their door for good. It's unfortunate but this episode proved to me they are understaffed, and no consideration was taken to administer the removal of the gel - basically they're not ready for prime time. The woman seemed frazzled and in a hurry which may have been because they appeard to be short staffed. I can live with the short staff and she even said I'd have about a 15 minute wait but when she poured a bowl of acetone and told me to dip my fingers in it, I did but then I thought this is crazy. I know others who have reviewed this place in the past were reviewing the old management. The women who ran it before were really, really good. I guess I was holding out hope that things would not change but they did. I wish them all the luck. They're going to need it. read more
