If you value your time, money, home, and peace of mind, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The work on our floors and dry wall required multiple return visits. After the second flooring visit, we told them the floor was still uneven and that the vinyl continued to pop up. On the third visit, a team member stepped on the area that was popping up and said, "There's nothing wrong!" After we insisted they open the floor, we discovered that cardboard packaging from the vinyl floor boards had been used underneath the floor to address the leveling issue... When we finally thought the flooring was finished, another problem surfaced. The trim at the top of our staircase that had been installed only about two weeks earlier came loose, and I fell down the stairs as a result. We then discovered that our replacement dry wall was visibly uneven and not flush with the existing wall. Even after their team came back to work on it, the transition was still not flush, if not worse! Regardless of whether subcontractors were involved, we hired Into The Woods to ensure the work was completed properly and ultimately hold them responsible. On top of having to repeatedly identify problems that should have been caught through proper supervision and quality control, the most frustrating part has been communicating with Into the Woods direct team members, especially their owner, Shamus. We constantly felt like our concerns were minimized and dismissed. Even if the work had been perfect, the interactions with the company throughout this entire process made us wish we never signed anything with them. *Additional Review After Owner's Response* Unfortunately, Shamus' response to my review is itself a reflection of our experience with Into The Woods. Throughout the project, our concerns were repeatedly reframed rather than addressed. We were reassured that issues would be taken care of, only to find them unresolved on subsequent visits. When we continued to speak up, we often felt our words were misconstrued, our concerns minimized, and the burden shifted back onto us. The response emphasizes that the company made 7-8 return visits. But the number of visits does not mean the work was properly completed. In fact, having to repeatedly request corrections is exactly what made this experience so frustrating. Many of those visits were to address warranty or punch-list issues that should have been resolved as part of completing the original work. I also want to correct the characterization of the financial accommodations. The nearly $10,000 shortfall was not covered by Into The Woods as a "good-faith discount." The remediation company that referred us to Into The Woods chose to cover the additional costs after we shared our negative experience with Into the Woods. They asked Into The Woods to go above and beyond to restore our home, and we are genuinely grateful to the remediation company for stepping in to help make things right. Separately, Shamus offered us a $1,000 "gesture of goodwill," which we declined. This offer came after we discovered cardboard packaging from the flooring underneath our floor. The stair-nose explanation in the response is particularly frustrating. The response leaves out the fact that approximately two weeks had passed since its installation. When the stair nose came loose, we photographed the underside and found a substantial amount of adhesive that appeared not to have properly bonded. The company subsequently returned to repair it. We don't expect construction to be completely free of problems. We do expect a contractor to listen to concerns, supervise the work, communicate accurately, and make sure problems are actually resolved. This experience cost us an enormous amount of time, frustration, and peace of mind. After everything we've experienced, we would not hire Into The Woods again, and we hope prospective customers consider our experience before making their decision.

First I have 2 big dogs and our last home's carpet seemed to absorb their scent. It also seemed perpetually stained with Georgia clay foot traffic patterns. Additionally, I'm an allergy sufferer, and it always felt like my old carpet locked in the pollen. And finally, when we finished our basement we bought new carpeting from Lowe's and every time I stepped on it I'd hear this plastic sound. I'm not sure if they screwed up the installation or if the carpet pad just sounded squeaky. In any case, I wasn't a fan. I wanted hardwood and my husband insisted on carpet because he preferred the warm feel, and argued it would better muffle the running around of our rambunctious 5yo and 3yo. He won the argument with the caveat that I got to pick the carpeting. I scoped out the selection at Lowe's, and called Empire. Friends warned me that Empire might be fast but they used hard sell tactics (offers only good for 24hrs, etc.) which provides little opportunity for comparison shopping. My mom had also used them and found the quality disappointing. I spent weeks researching carpeting and installation. I learned that most carpeting companies outsource installation, and that this isn't often covered in their warranties or those warranties are very limited. Then I found Enhance Floors and was impressed with the selection of carpet options and the outstanding installation warranty they offered in addition to the extensive warranty Mohawk offered on the materials. I chose a newer product - Mohawk's Aero - which is hypoallergenic, doesn't stain and doesn't absorb odor. The product is synthetic and environmentally friendly (fully recyclable) and has a built-in felt-like pad that is cushy and breathable so you can suck up allergens when vacuuming. And the texture of the carpet is gorgeous and super soft. The color selection was beautiful too, and we chose "Longhorn" which looks lovely in our home. I never thought I'd love carpeting and I adore this product! Aero has a 10year materials warranty through Mohawk, and Enhance offers a lifetime installation warranty. The business is locally owned and the owner himself comes out to do measurements. Installation is professional, and they are responsive if concerns arise (they even came back to do an odd bathroom closet that had been missed). Pricing was also very fair - well worthy the added peace of mind, professionalism and exceptional quality. I believe they offer 12mo interest free financing too. I was able to get limited time 15mos interest free financing through Mohawk (on special promo from time to time) and Enhance honors that as an authorized dealer. The only drawback is that it can take a couple weeks to schedule your quote. It's well worth it though, so be patient. I highly recommend this company! I'd definitely advise checking out their showroom to decide what type of product best fits your requirements. Some of their carpets actually come with 20yr materials warranties! Crazy. And one last thing... I mentioned my 3yo and 5yo. We've had spilled milk and juice and it actually beads up on the surface of the Aero carpet (won't absorb or stain)... it's the easiest thing to clean up yet somehow miraculously super soft. One of my final projects was to replace my unsightly hardwood and tile floors with LVP. I got several quotes from small and large companies; some who made the job seem like it would be impossible because my house was old and had its issues. Every company that came, pointed out a slant in the floor, a dent, or patch of missing hardwood- all of which would increase the cost of the final project. Some companies also required me to hire someone else to move all the furniture out of my home first. When Alex from Oakerds came out he did a thorough inspection of the job and gave me a price that was lower than most other companies. I was shocked at how smooth the estimate went. The crew sanded the entire floor three times with finer grits each time, making for a very smooth surface to stain and finish. The stain was furniture-grade, as was the final finish. Let me explain that this was our second attempt to refinish our hardwoods floors. Originally, we went with another company recommended by a neighbor. The estimate was cheaper, and we thought we could save a few bucks. Boy did we make a mistake. We were out of our house for a week, returning only to find a sub-standard job with damage to our house. We were heartbroken, and it was a costly mistake not to go with M.S. Construction Services first. Don't make the same mistake we did -- hire these guys first. When we contacted Mike, he was out of the country, but responded quickly and scheduled his crew for the very next week. They moved all the furniture carefully, and they pulled off all the old shoe-moldings. Then they spent most of the first two days meticulously sanding our entire main level. Then they applied the stain, and this is where the artistry comes in. Igor used a special technique to get the grain of the existing boards to absorb the stain in a way that makes it darker than the surrounding wood -- it really 'pops' and makes the original floors look very high-grade. They not only fixed all the problems created by the previous contractor, M.S. Construction Services came up with elegant solutions to things that had bothered us since we bought the house years ago. Igor carefully carved out a thin layer of the base of our kitchen cabinets to slide the floor register underneath it. It looks so good! I can't stress enough the attention to detail. The shoe moldings they use are high grade, and they cut them to exacting measurements for a perfect fit. They also nail them tight to the wall so little if any caulk is necessary between the two. We wake up every morning and just marvel at the workmanship and the artistry. These are good people who really take pride in their work. We even accidentally overpaid on the final check -- Mike caught it, told us, and allowed us to write a new check for the lower amount. That is integrity. Bottom line: don't hire anyone else, even if you think you might save a little money. You'll regret not going with M.S. Construction Services. We got more than our money's worth!
