I honestly feel that this restaurant is confused as to what it is. You could almost split it in half and have fine wine and dining on one side and a brewpub style relaxed eatery on the other. The food and atmosphere are both bland and eerie. Our server was very friendly although the hostess seemed to lack enthusiasm. Honestly there's nothing here that draws me back. The environment is clean, but outdated and not inviting. The food was cooked correctly to our specifications but just nothing special. I mostly liked this restaurant. The menu was varied and featured seafood prominently. Generally, the food was decent. I had a specialty pizza and my husband ordered a seafood dish. The service was good on an especially busy night. We will give it a second try, but next time I would want a table in a more quiet area, or outside. We were seated in a waiter/waitress flight path. Attended Sunday Brunch here recently. The food was good, but the service was lacking. If you advertise that brunch starts at 10 a.m. - be ready at 10 a.m. We arrived at 10 a.m. and went to the buffet maybe 10 minutes after that, and a ton of stuff wasn't out yet. My son wanted pancakes, and no one was manning the carving/pancake station - THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE THERE! I stood around for a good 10 minutes at different times throughout our morning, and not one person said one word to me including the 3 or 4 servers who would walk by me. I tried to call to get attention, but no one seemed to care. The guy who was supposed to be manning the station spent all of his time in the kitchen, and never serving anyone. Had lunch with a group and just to be quick, atmosphere, service and the drunken littlenecks, thai chicken pizza and the soups where great. Not the best fish and chips, having both suffering from lack of crispness in batter and chips soggy from sitting under the soggy fish. Second was the so called chicken gumbo. The only thing that was gumbo like was the andouille sausage. The chicken was sodden with the puddle of oil in the dish. Same for the orka and there was no rice. Not sure what you would call the dish, but calling it gumbo should be a crime and would be if you were any where close to Lousiana. read more

23 dec 2018 update** Three of us went, my wife had the corn and crab stuffed shrimp. Three small shrimp butterflied with a small amount of stuffing on top. They where not the sized shrimp one should use for stuffing. The large portion of mashed potatoes were under seasoned. The carrots and squash were good. We had Lobster bisque which was good and presented well. We also had the artichoke dip which did not present well. but was tasty. I had the ribs, which were tough as leather, I did not eat but one. I tasted the enormously over sized portion of mashed potatoes. They too were under seasoned and not eaten. The succotash was ok. The server and manager where both nice and took care of the issue properly, removing the uneaten plate of food and asking if I wanted a different meal, I did not. The restaurant lights was to dark for my taste. I had to use the light of a phone to read the menu. We've been disappointed each of the last several times coming here. read more

Outside seating and waiter ~ perfect! Cold eggs, potatoes and wrong toast, not so much:( Will never do breakfast again. I just don't like my eggs cold. I usually have a decent meal at the Brickside but I made the mistake of ordering the swordfish taco's on this visit. The light, fresh, crisp experience typical of a fish taco was completely missing. Instead I got an over seasoned (blackened which it did not state on the menu) greasy disappointment. And unfortunately our cocktails were disappointing as well. The waitress was very attentive about keeping our glasses filled with water--but that was about all she did. We had to go find her to place our order. In the end, one of our orders got mixed up, and the server brought out the wrong plate. Almost everyone had a complaint about their dish: the pasta was bland. The baby carrots were either mushy-overdone or chewy-underdone, depending on which particular carrot you bit into. My sisters ordered medium steaks which came back rarer than they'd hoped, whereas my friend ordered a medium-rare steak which got to her well-done. This place was brutal. Extremely small portions. The lobster roll came on a burnt hot dog roll and there was only a small serving of lobster. Easily the smallest lobster roll I've ever had. My girlfriend got the stuffed shrimp....3 small shrimp stuffed. The shrimp weren't even cocktail sized. We also ordered cocktails and they can in a beer glass. Weird for $11 drink. I have been paying attention to this restaurant for several months. This restaurant ONLY hires young girls to be the hostess. Then they always need the manager to help them or OK them with the proper seating. The little girl the other night had shorts on SO short that I felt it was inappropriate for her to be working like that. For the money they charge at this restaurant, they should have their staff dress as if they are working at a business. Not a beach shack. Also, if the manager could work on the proper way of having his employees greet their patrons. "Hi Guys", does not refer to a table of women. This slang is used far too much, I know a more appropriate greeting for women could be used. Even when I am dining with my husband at this restaurant we are greeted with "Hi Guys". I ordered the prime rob but has to send it back. It looked like it was cooked really well, rare just like I like it, but was very fatty. Ordered the flat iron instead. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I had the misfortune of taking a client to this joke-of-a-restaurant for dinner on June 24, 2015. Our waitress was the worst, and the food was awful. The waitress screwed up almost every aspect of the service. Clearly she had no training and no supervision. She kept forgetting things we ordered, bringing us the wrong items, mixing up who ordered which items, and we waited endlessly for her each time we needed something (and it was not overly busy that night). I ordered the Louisiana Jumbo. I couldn't even stomach it - it was incredibly bad. The dumpling appetizer was atrocious. And the tap beer I ordered was flat. So it was a clean sweep... everything was terrible across the board. When we were finished eating, the dirty dishes just sat there - for a half hour - while we had wine. We finally piled them on the table next to us. Here's the best part. The "manager" stopped by our table and asked if we were happy. I told him we were not happy, and that the waitress needed basic training. He just looked at me... and then walked away. He never said a word; never apologized; didn't attempt to make it right. There are plenty of good nearby alternatives to this dive. In Lionville (Exton) you'll find several good options within a mile of the main intersection (rt100 and rt113). read more

The bread was too hard (not to say burnt), it was difficult to bite it, cut it, there was no easy way to eat it. We hadn't been to Brickside in a few months. We tend to go in the warmer months for the outdoor seating. Sitting inside is certainly not bad by any means, but it is a bit dated and not overly inviting. I'm willing to overlook that type of thing if the service and food are good. Alas, they were not. The menu hasn't changed for as long as I can remember. There's a specials menu though. Our drinks came out 20 minutes after ordering. Our food came out an HOUR after ordering. One of the orders was incorrect and one was missing. Those came out 10 minutes after the others arrived (a kids pizza and a caeser salad). One of the dishes, a pizza special, was delayed as well. The waitress told us that she refused to serve it because it looked so bad so she had the kitchen prepare another one. Low and behold, the unservable pizza came out anyway several minutes later. And then the replacement pizza came. Both were a disaster. Lobster pizza, it turns out, is their lobster bisque atop a crust with cheese sprinkled over it. It was not pleasant. We also had an order of plain pasta with butter from the children's menu. The pasta was rubbery and under-cooked. Of the 7 people at our table, no one ordered anything complicated. We arrived just before 5:00 on a Sunday and were one of 5 other families in the restaurant. As more people were seated in the dinner hour, we noticed many other tables receiving their food well before us- even though they were seated at least 15 minutes after us- if not more. I had high hopes that Brickside would get it together- improve their menu, food, service and ambiance- now that several other restaurants are set to open next door in the coming weeks. This is a thought echoed by many that I know who live in the area and are desperate for a decent restaurant in the vicinity. We would gladly eat there more often if they could just step it up and try to be a restaurant that wants to be known for its food and not for its location. This place has potential. They just need to give the interior and the menu some TLC and hire new chefs that know food. read more

The service drifts between inattentive and rude. Food quality is average. Food and beer selection is completely random. Don't become to attached to any item, because they'll remove it from the menu before long. I live so close that I've really tried to like Brickside. Went for dinner with friends just before New Year's, so it wasn't very crowded. Our waitress was very polite and helpful with the menu, having no problem giving recommendations and not trying to upsell on every thing. The crab claw appetizer was OK, the muscles were very spicy which is good but a little dirty and there were a few with broken shells. The lobster beignet appetizer was very delicious but possibly should've been a dessert because it was so sweet. I took our servers recommendation for the special of the pork belly. It was very tasty and quite filling. I even took half home. My wife had to go cheese and salmon salad which she said was amazing. Other complements from our friends went to the flat iron steak. The beer selection was OK but watch for the short pour glasses that only give you 7 ounces instead of 10 or 12. We did indulge in some dessert and it was The chocolate peanut butter pie which was outstanding! Only real complaint was that after we paid the bill we were sitting around the table talking for about another hour and the waitress never once came back to check on us or see if we wanted to open up a drink tab or have anything extra. read more

My wife, daughter, and I were eager to try Brickside Grille for the first time. Sadly, our experience was largely disappointing, on several fronts. First, we arrived and were seated at 6:40, but didn't take the first sip of our drinks or taste the delicious bread rolls until 7:10. Thirty minutes is rather an unacceptable amount of time to wait for drinks. Why did it take so long? Two reasons. First, before we ordered, we pointed out to the server how much our daughter (9 years old) was craving scallops, but we know her palate and could tell that most of the exotic flourishes of the complementing starch and vegetables would be lost on her -- so we asked if she could order simply a smaller order of scallops, either broiled or pan seared, since $25 was going to be quite a lot for a child's appetite, who wouldn't appreciate all of the accompaniments. Our waitress, Ashley, said she would check with the chef, to see what could be done. She disappeared for nearly 10 or 15 minutes, and when she finally returned, the word was, "The kitchen can prepare the scallops in a simple broiling, but the price will still be $25." Now, there, I think a mistake was made -- because where we would have been happy to pay $16 or $17 for just the scallops, now we elected to downgrade to the mussels appetizer for her, which is only $9.50 for your enterprise. A stubborn kitchen simultaneously forfeited $6 or $7 and disappointed the customer. So, next, we place our dinner order. We asked for a dozen oysters. Ashley asked, "Do you want all of them to be Chesapeakes?" My wife asked, "Which of the oysters on the menu are at the $2 per oyster rate, and discounted if we get the full dozen?" Ashley said, "I think you can get any of them for the same price." So, we ordered two of each of the 6 varieties on the menu, expecting to pay the discounted menu price of $17 per dozen. We also ordered calamari, but because we saw another patron return the calamari given that it had too many hot peppers, I asked that the kitchen "go light" on the peppers. We also ordered drinks -- I had planned to order a draft beer, but the draft compressor was broken, so I chose a (more expensive) bottled beer. My wife ordered a cosmopolitan, which frustratingly, the mixed drinks are not priced on the menu. We then waited another solid 15 minutes to get one bottle of beer (no glass), and an apology from Ashley that she had forgotten what my wife had ordered to drink (a cosmopolitan). Once reminded, I asked if she could bring me a beer glass when she returned with the cosmo, and could we get some bread rolls that all of the other tables seemed to be enjoying. Another 5 or 6 minutes pass, and the cosmopolitan arrives with the bread, but no beer glass. I ask again for a beer glass for my bottle of beer. The oysters finally arrive, along with the calamari, which is (not to our surprise, at this point) loaded with hot peppers, and quite greasy and over-cooked. After another delay of about 15 minutes, the entrees arrive, and I will say that they were delicious. But, then comes the time for the bill. Where is the bill? Where is Ashley? Neither appeared for at least 5 minutes after our plates had been cleared by staff. Finally, the bill comes, and I soon can see that Ashley had entered our 12 oysters in 2-by-2 fashion. So, there was an order for 2 Chesapeakes ($4.00), and 2 Beach Blonds ($5.20), and so on... totaling a whopping $30, when we had been led to believe that they would total $17. I pointed out the problem to Ashley, and she goes off again to consult the management, and there I sit waiting (again) for over 5 minutes for her to return. She apologized for entering the oysters incorrectly in the register, and then said we would "only" have to pay $24 for a dozen mixed oysters. Wow, what a bargain, that we pay the full $2 per oyster rate when ordering in bulk. As the final point of damage, I learn only when the bill arrives that this establishment prices a cosmopolitan (with well vodka) at $9.00 a drink. I've paid $9 for a basic cocktail in New York City -- I didn't know that Lionville commands the same rate. I wrote this letter to the management, via their web site. No response for many days. So, I then called the restaurant to see if they had a direct e-mail address I could contact. I was given the owner/manager's e-mail address, to which I sent my note. Six days later -- still no response. So, now my letter goes up for all to see on Trip Advisor, Yelp, OpenTable, etc. Long story short -- the restaurant's food had quite the potential to win us back as loyal customers; but given the level of service and the billing practices that we encountered on our first visit, I'm not sure we'd be coaxed into trying Brickside Grille a second time. EDIT: After this Yelp review caught the management's attention, they did mail us gift certificates to be used for a free Sunday brunch for three patrons. The brunch was very good. read more

Horrible margarita. Outside of that dinner was fine. Usually only have lunch here, but stopped for dinner last night and it was ok. Shrimp and oysters were fresh and very good. BLackened prime rib was good, but a little fatty. Stuffed shrimp was also good. I would have given this place another 1/2 except for one thing. Ordered a margarita which was the worst tasting thing in the world. We sent the margarita back and the waitress wanted to know exactly what was wrong. It was bad, didn't want it and ordered $40.00 of wine. When the bill comes the margarita was still on the bill. When I asked she said that she couldn't tell the bartender what was wrong with it so they left it on the charge. I will probably go back for lunch, but not real happy they didn't want to take the drink off the bill. It was $5.95 , so not the end of the world, but still, most GOOD restaurants will take off the any drink , or wine, that a patron doesn't like. Won't go for dinner again, since Vickers is close and has a wait staff that would have been more accomadating than the one we had. read more

Strip was ordered rare came medium, filet was ordered med rare and came well done. The manager replaced the filet, but it took about another 20 minutes to arrive. We've been there many times, and the food has always been great -- only once did I not like my dinner. The service is usually good. My husband & I have gone here on many occasions for Sunday brunch and once for an evening out. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. The evening out was good and their menu is varied enough that it was hard to choose which thing to try. The Sunday brunch buffet is one of the best in the area. They have a great mix of breakfast and lunch options. It's not all the same stuff you see at other buffets. I would recommend ordering the eggs benedict with crab and spinach, it's to die for and it comes with the buffet. If that's not your thing though the frittatas are a good way to go also. read more
