What a fun little place to stop and smell the, well, baked goods! Literally the best scone I have ever eaten. And the coffee is really decent too.

I'm not really sure what is going on here as I have seen good reviews on this place. We drove to Adel this morning just to try this bakery. It was around 9:00 a.m. so I figured it would be a safe bet that they would have a good selection available. I was surprised as they only had four flavors of donuts in the case and I saw nothing what was written on their menu board. They didn't have some of their drinks as they had a cooler that was broke but that was understandable. My coffee however was poured from a carafe and then put in the microwave and served to me still lukewarm at best. The only donut that was edible was the cake donut. The Long John donuts were overcooked and I believe were well over a day old as they were hard. Very disappointing because my 11-year-old son didn't get his donut and we were also taking one over to my sister and instead we threw them in the trash. $12 and fuel down the drain.

Love their chocolate donuts with chocolate sprinkles. We just moved to Adel and I'm really excited to try their pizza!

Owner Jim Sparks is a wonderful man, and they are a strong community supporter. Their family has operated the business for more than 40 years. My apple fritter was the best I have ever enjoyed, and we decided that it was definitely worth the 45-minute ride! They also have great donuts and cookies, plenty of indoor seating, and historic Winterset photos. This is a jewel. Visit it; you'll love the entire experience.

And they only had a limited selection of those. And we went in the morning. I am sorry you can't just offer up only donuts and call yourself a bakery. You can apparently order cakes there but there were none for sale. Even the Walmart bakery has a much better selection than here. I suppose if all you looking for is a very sparse choice of donuts then this is your place. They may have had a better selection early in the morning but all they have is a very small case for goods - so how goo could the selection have been? I am not sure how this place made it in to the "100 Things to do in Iowa" book but if this is a sampling then Iowa must be a very boring place. What a horrible disappointment. Oh and if you truly want a great donut go to Hurts Donuts in West Desmoines or Ambrosia Donuts in Ankeny. Now those are some class act donuts!! Delicious!

My son was thrilled with his sprinkle donut, especially with the fun, non-standard colors like blue and green. My husband's apple fritter had a strong cinnamon flavor with bits of apple; it was a bit crunchier on the edges than we expected, but still delicious. We got an old fashioned for our one-year-old, and it was the perfect choice - not too sweet, nor sticky. The big surprise was the breakfast sausage sandwiches my husband and son ordered. The high-quality egg, sausage, and cheese on a fresh croissant were fantastic. I took a bite and was truly impressed, especially for the price... under $5 is very reasonable for the size. I was waffling over the Kona iced coffee, so a worker kindly gave me a sample. It was stronger, sweeter, and creamier than I expected, so I happily purchased a cup. The shop itself is small and can get a bit crowded, so it's probably not the best spot if you're planning to sit and eat inside. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Ankeny though. I can already imagine grabbing donuts and coffee to enjoy at the park with the kids once the weather warms up!
