What's great about that Is there's multiple fillings. So you can choose ones such as Bavarian cream or raspberry jelly, etc. The service is always exceptional and quick. I FINALLY was in town early enough to stop by and try these raved about donuts... and I don't see why people love them. The place is very lackluster on the inside, although I love the shrine. The cronut was soft and squishy and gross. Almost drippy with oil. The fruit twist had a weird fake flavor and the bear claw was just gross. My husband didn't absolutely hate them as much as I did so I'll give the place a two star vs a one star, but there are SO many better places for donuts. You could get a better donut at Hyvee over this place in my opinion. They're located a little bit south of downtown in one of the suites facing the main road. There wasn't much of a line but both of the people in front of me were ordering dozens. Which is already a good sign of their popularity. A cronut is a croissant-donut hybrid. I love croissants. And donuts. And when I took one bite I understood what all the hype was about. There are NO vegan or plant based donuts here. The owner stated the donuts are made from a pre-made mix. Drink cases have tons of drinks and hot coffee drinks are served here. They have their own brewed coffee. Walking in, there is no indoor seating. Covid has caused the shop to not allow indoor seating. Workers are masked. Customer service was mediocre. The workers weren't inviting but they were nice. This shop is asian owned. We spent $5.xx for 3 donuts and a bag of donut holes. There is also a drive through window! Overall it was ok. We stopped by this no frills donut shop to abandon a New Year's resolution to cut back on the carbs. It's a small storefront with a half dozen tables in an area of Des Moines where new residential apartment buildings are popping up, just adjacent to Downtown. We tried the classic glazed, which did not disappoint. The chocolate twist was standard. The cinnamon roll was the fan favorite. They've opened a new spot on SW 9th in a newer, upcoming area just South of the bridges. Now it's even closer to those of us who live South of Ankeny...dangerously close. The cronut is the hybrid of two delicious confections, the croissant and the donut. Theirs contains light, fluffy layers with crispy crunch on the outside. I admit, I'm not up to date on the proper way to eat a croissant. Do you peel the layers? Just take a bite? Warm it in the microwave and eat it with a fork and knife? Let me tell you, I've tried them all and they all lead to happiness. As before, they have a wide selection of donuts, both with classic toppings to fun decorations to take on any other shop. The best thing is their filling policy. No donuts are pre-filled but you can get them with your own selection of fillings! They have a pretty good area for seating, a coffee area and other drinks, so you could come and enjoy yourself for awhile...sampling your way through the goodness they offer. But one tip, you may want to get their early. While the kitchen is always pumping out fresh donuts, the earlier you are the less the wait for some of the more popular items. Co-worker and I decided to venture out and try the new place since it's close to work. We each got a donut to eat there. I also ordered half a dozen for home along with their jalapeno cheese hot dog. Glazed donut - light and airy. Very good Old fashioned sour cream - yummy and cakey. Jalapeno cheese hot dog - this was yummy. It's a cheese hot dog with cheese and wrapped with dough. Absolute greatness. Got 3 cronuts for my family and we all loved them. I even microwaved mine for about 7 seconds and my goodness gracious... A must get for a first timer. I would get in early though as these are extremely popular and could run out. I went at about 7:30am today. I also told the worker it was my first time and how excited I was and he hooked me up with some of their donut holes which are like little pillows of flavor.
