Very disappointed in my take out salads. I ordered 1 large house salad ($12) and 1 large Greek salad ($13). I got them home and it was just barely covering the bottom of the large carry out dish. i stopped there today for lunch on a recommendation. the food is somewhat pricey. i ordered the spaghetti and meatballs from the lunch menu, which came with soup or salad. i chose the soup. it was minestrone, or upcharge for another couple dollars for a soup that i don't remember the name of. i chose the upcharge soup. good choice. i also, unfortunately got the squid. (unfortunate because i didn't even come close to eating them all.) my mom was FBI. (full blooded italian) so needless to say, i don't like spaghetti from restaurants. and the more italian a restaurant claims to be, the worse the spaghetti. not so with this place. it was almost as good as my mom's. let's talk about the ambiance. it was loud. i didn't care for the music but it wasn't that funk monkey music or rap or anything, it was more like the music i grew up listening to. not loud; actually you couldn't hear it well over all the chatter. now, the service. i don't know if i was lucky, or all are like the girl that waited on us, but the service was the only thing that topped the food. This is not "Italian" food - the sauce is like tomato paste...the pizza is disgusting....the lemon cake dessert had frosting that tasted and felt like it was eating a slick of oil....threw that away. We went this time and I say that because this probably our third or fourth time. We ordered a few different things. The veal Siciliana was perfect and so was the honey pork chop. The salad with the pecan bacon dressing and added honey mustard was delicious. So was the house Italian dressing. However we also ordered the filet with garlic and the blackened ribeye. Both were not seasoned at all. My Chef husband said that his steak was not grilled as it had no char or marks he said it was oven cooked. Ik this isn't a steakhouse but a little salt goes along way. I don't know what happened to this place. I been getting their margarita pizza for years. Got one yesterday was terrible. The crust was rubbery with no flavor. The sauce was hardly noticeable and the cheese was just enough. They had some basil on it but even that was tasteless. The pizza was $22 and I gave them $30 and to keep the change. Came for lunch a few weeks ago and got eggplant rolatine. We both loved it! The fresh Italian loaf is amazing. But came back for dinner tonight and got the liberta pizza, was nervous because I was wanting pasta. The Brick Oven Cafe is one of. My favorite restaurants in the entire New Orleans area!! Strictly speaking, it is not in New Orleans but in Kenner on Williams near the airport but it is more than worth a planned stop!! Everything is homemade, mainly Italian but with a definite New Orleans twist. From pasta dishes to incredible desserts- tiramisu and the wedding cake cannoli are to die for, the cuisine is always consistently incredible!! The service manages to be traditional yet very welcoming. And the ambiance is comfortable and inviting. Go and enjoy making a wonderful memory!! The Best!! read more

Went here with my "girls night out" team on Tues night. They split a wood oven pizza, which looked amazing and they loved it. I had the veal Florentine and it was real veal thin cutlets with fresh spinach and fettuccine Alfredo on the side. Portions were generous ( I brought half home) and the side Cesar salad had loads of cheese. I had a Cosmo which was only $8 versus the usual $10 anywhere else. Service was fast considering everything is cooked to order. My only disappointment was dessert: many choices but the chocolate cake was dry. They do have cannoli including King Cake stuffed cannoli which the girls loved. Prices are mid range but I got one of the most expensive choices on the menu. It was well worth the total plus tip. I hadn't been to the Brick Oven in quite a while. My wife goes with a friend for lunch every few months. We were in the area on a Saturday evening and decided to stop in. There were tables available so we were seated right away. Walking to our table, I saw the white table tops and thought, hey, fine dining in Kenner! Then I realized there was a glass pane between me and the pristine white table clothes. I surprised myself and started the meal with the Eggplant rolatine. I'm not usually a big eggplant fan, but this dish worked as an appetizer. It is 2 pieces of breaded eggplant wrapped around seasoned ricotta and then dressed in a red sauce. It wasn't bad. My wife took a different tack and ordered the Greek salad. (I know, we are in an Italian restaurant). They did pour the homemade Italian dressing over the greens and feta cheese, but it passed the taste inspection. For dinner I had the spaghetti bolognese which was made with with pork rather than ground beef or veal. The meal was decent. There was enough that I felt comfortably full but not overly sated. My wife ordered the Brick Oven chicken based on the waitress' recommendation. The grilled boneless chicken breast was topped by a white wine, with mushrooms and artichoke heart and served on angel hair pasta. She ate most of it but didn't bring the remainder home with us. The Brick Oven has a nice wine list, mostly in the $20 - $40 range. We had a bottle of an imported Chianti Classico which went well with the meal. At the end of the meal, we had wine left over from the single bottle we bought for dinner. The waitress had not been very aggressive about keeping our wine glasses full (and emptying the bottle as quick as possible). And that was typical of the whole meal. I always come back for the cafe' salad or previously named the brick oven salad. It is made up on shredded chicken, feta, lettuce and their homemade Italian dressing that literally makes the salad what it is. With a side of bread and butter...you have a quick, inexpensive meal. My wife and I enjoyed our dinner at the Brick Oven Café. The server was very friendly and informative and the food was quite good. We started with the eggplant appetizer, which consisted of two large slices of eggplant, breaded and fried, and rolled up with a cheesy filling and covered with red sauce. It was really good and prefect for two people to share! For our entrees, my wife ordered the chicken parm and I had the pasta carbonara. The parm came with soup or salad (we opted for the salad, which comes with a tasty, garlicy dressing). The carbonara didn't come with anything, so we shared the salad, which was big enough to do so. Both dishes were really nice. The portions are large as well. The carbonara had tons of pancetta in it, it was so yummy! The chicken parm was also nice, my wife really enjoyed it. There are a few oddities about this restaurant that are a bit below them. For example, on the menu, you will see several little upcharges for things, like 50 cents for a soda refill, $3 for more bread, and the list goes on. I think their prices are high enough that they don't need to treat the customers like they are flying on Spirit Airlines. read more

This was our second visit to this restaurant. I did not think we would get the same quality of service and food as we did on our first visit. I was wrong! Our second visit was even better than our first. We had a group of nine. Our servers Paul and Kathy were awesome. Food and drinks were delivered to everyone on time. Our water glasses were always filled and the guests that ordered drinks were promptly served as well. We had ordered a variety of foods and the quality of each dish was perfect. Food was good, the place is in need of a remodel/makeover it is very old and outdated. We walked in and there was no one to greet us we stood there for 5 minutes discussing if we should leave and go somewhere else and then an older gentlemen approached us and said it would be a 20 minute wait. There were many empty tables so it was confusing for a restaurant that has a full bar to not want to seat you right away. It might be part of his customer prevention plan as we were not a local couple. We were seated about 20 minutes later and our waiter was warm and very nice.
