    Do you accept insurance?

Yes! Most major medical. I do not accept Cigna, Oscar or medicaid. Some HMO policies require a referral, but most PPOs do not.

I moved here from CA and I knew plenty of Orthopedic surgeons and had considered even flying back out there. But a good friend highly recommended Dr. John Paul Rodriguez so I decided to give it a try. I had never had a knee problem but after my first visit, and imaging, it was determined I had a meniscal tear. The pain was pretty bad but I was able to walk with some assistance. When I met with Dr. Rodriguez again, he gave me a choice of surgery or waiting it out. Initially, wanting this to go away sooner, I opted for surgery. But as we were getting into scheduling the surgery, I had decided to wait it out and see if it would get better. After a full year, my knee pain had significantly improved, but I could still feel what I could only guess was the tear. It was worse with certain activities and it was starting to limit what I normally was able to do. So, after a year of conservative treatment, I decided to revisit Dr. Rodriguez. Something I really appreciated is they didn't make me start all over from square one. We essentially picked up where I had left things. I felt I did as much as I could to give the knee a chance to heal if it was going to but realized this was basically as good as it was going to get non-surgically. Dr. Rodriguez really listened to me and ultimately we agreed to go ahead with the surgery. A special thanks goes out to Madison Gaul, Dr. Rodriguez's surgery scheduler. She was exceptionally helpful in getting me scheduled on a date and time that worked for me. She was very clear about everything I needed in order to get clearance for the surgery and very accommodating with the scheduling. The day of the surgery could not have been more uneventful. I had surgery at their surgery center and everyone involved was very nice and did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable. I blinked my eyes and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. They had already called the person who was going to give me a ride and as soon as I was a bit more alert, I was able to leave. Post-operatively I really didn't know what to expect with respect to pain. I will call it "Tylenol" or "Ibuprofen" pain because that was all I needed that first night. My leg was wrapped in a compression dressing that I needed to leave on for 10 days until my next visit. And during the ten days, I was able to bear weight and didn't even need the crutches I had and never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen. At my first post-op appointment, all was well. They removed the sutures and addressed all of my questions which were primarily about when I could resume bike riding. It has been just a little over six months and I cannot say enough good things about this practice and Dr. Rodriguez. My knee feels so great, I often forget I had surgery this year. I don't regret taking the year to see if it would get better, but I am so happy I had the surgery. I am back to riding my bike 10 - 20 miles a day and have even done some long 30 mile rides. I have not needed to even take an ibuprofen in more than four months and my knee feels as great as the uninjured knee.

I didn't do any running again until 2017 when I started running less than 2 miles at a time, and realized I could do that without my knees hurting. Occasionally I would run 3 to 4 miles at a time, and feel my knees burn again. Fast forward to the pandemic and a screeching halt to in person group workouts, and any running I did reduced to a mile or less at a time. By August of 2021 I started walk / jogging again, it was going well, and by October I wanted to add more miles without getting knee pain again. A friend of mine recommended that I go to RunLab to figure out what I could do better to be able to run without hurting myself. This was one of the best recommendations I have ever received. For the past two months I have been working with Dr. Biershenk at RunLab. In that time I've been able to double my weekly running mileage without any injuries or lasting pain. Along the way to learning to move injury free, I have awakened other issues, and Dr. Biershenk has helped me to correct the new issues as they've arisen. I've been very happy with my results so far, and I plan to continue to book sessions at RunLab to improve my running. In the mundane details: scheduling and billing have always been hassle free and accurate. My appointments have always been on-time and to schedule. The staff at RunLab is attentive to their clients and are dedicated to helping them improve their movement. I would highly recommend RunLab, it's the best thing I've done for myself in a long time.

My son went to get services at the Cedar Park location from September 2024 to May 2025. The services from September to December were billed correctly after a few back and forth calls and e-mails but got it resolved. Then January came and they "lost" the information from the secondary insurance. After a few calls and e-mails I thought I had resolved the issue. But continue to get billed and every month I would leave a message and the secretary would reassured me that there were plenty on notes in the record and I wouldn't get billed again. Then they sent me to collections 6 months later. I followed up with the collections agency and ASM main billing department and they removed me from the "collections list" but kept billing me the wrong amount. My calls and e-mails at least once a month are documented but still no solution. Now 6 months later from the first time, they sent me to collections again. So their incompetency is somehow my fault. I will never go there again. I don't trust that they know how to select their PT staff if they can't select the right personal for administrative purposes.

If you read reviews for medical providers, you'll see a common theme: doctors were great, office…read morestaff was horrible. That was certainly the case here. I have nothing but good things to say about Drs. Gallagher, Amis, and Barron. But the office manager left such a bad taste in my mouth I'll likely seek care elsewhere if I need another visit. One benefit of insurance is not just that insurance often pays part of the bill, but it actually lowers the total cost of the bill, because of the "contracted rates" agreement between the insurer and doctor. Our insurance is weak and doesn't cover office visits, meaning we don't technically qualify for contracted rates, but all our other providers give us the contracted rates anyway (probably reasoning that if the doctor were willing to receive $x as payment from an insurer, they'd be willing to receive the same amount from us). However, the office manager at ATX Ortho has seemingly decided on her own that ATX Ortho won't give the contracted rates, and doesn't care that that makes ATX Ortho stand alone in that regard. The initial conversation about my wife's bill went something like this: - - - - - OFFICE MGR: Your insurance doesn't cover office visits, so you don't get the contracted rate. ME: I know our insurance doesn't cover office visits, but all our other providers give the contracted rates for office visits, even though office visits aren't covered there, either. OFFICE MGR: But your insurance doesn't cover office visits! (groan) I went round and round on this, all I could get out of her was "Your insurance doesn't cover office visits!" - - - - - Today I saw Dr. Amis for myself and explained the problem with my wife's bill, including how all our other providers give the contracted rates even though they don't have to, and showed him the EOB with the Total Charged vs. Repriced amounts ($393.50 vs. $292.05). He didn't really want to know all the details (which is normal, he wants to leave administration to office staff so he can practice medicine), but said he'd be happy to receive the $292.05 repriced amount and directed the receptionist to honor that rate. So I paid, and asked her to submit my own office visit through insurance the same way. Then after I got home, the office mgr. called and again railed at me that our insurance doesn't cover office visits and she wouldn't give us the contracted rates. I protested that Dr. Amis had said we could get those rates, and she said that was just for my wife. I said I was sure that Dr. Amis meant it to apply to my bill also. She countered that my wife was "lucky" to have gotten the contracted rate at ATX Ortho (at other offices, we don't need "luck" to get the contracted rate, they just give it to us), and that she talked to Dr. Amis and he said to not give the contracted rate. I think she either didn't actually talk to him, or she did and misled him, more on that later. I asked her: "To be clear, if ATX Ortho doesn't give the contracted rate, it will be alone among all our various doctors' offices for not giving that rate, is this really the way you want to handle it?" She said yes. Since the decision to not honor the contracted rates is so unusual, I asked her where that policy was coming from, from her, or from the practice owners? Because it really seemed like it was coming from her. She said she talked to both Drs. Amis and Gallagher and it was their decision. I asked, when you presented the information to them, did you explain that ALL OUR OTHER PROVIDERS GIVE US THE CONTRACTED RATES? She admitted that she did not. Bingo. So, the doctors, who are not versed in the intricacies of insurance/billing, understandably deferred to their administrative staff, but their staff misled them by not giving them the whole story. I do want to point out that the *other* office staff has always been nice and helpful (e.g., Amber).
