I want everyone to understand how much of a total nightmare this company is to work with and the absolute mess they left me with. I am so blown away by the level of disrespect, I have zero idea how this man is still in business.
I was referred to Teo with Brewster Marble through the cabinet company I was working with. Teo seemed nice and up for the job of my kitchen remodel. Aside from some shotty communication, which I've learned is a bit to be expected with any/all contractors, it seemed like we were headed in the right direction. Once his workers were finished, I noticed quite a few problems:
- They scratched our black stainless steel dishwasher through the color.
- There were 2 seems set through the kitchen sink, which I am constantly questioned about by other fabricators who've come to help fix the rest of the damage.
- There were some corners with terrible edging, chips and excess bonding agent.
- There was excess bonding agent smeared all over the stone by each seem, which needed to be sanded down/buffed.
- They spilled/splashed the bonding agent down the back of our brand new, blue painted peninsula, wiped it off which smeared holes through the paint, then tried to cover it up with ball point pen - made zero mention to me, I found it a few days later.
- The stone was not properly sealed, so even water left temporary stains. Anything with oil left a stain nearly immediately, not temporary at all - Teo assured me that a mix between bleach and baking soda would get anything out and it's impossible to ruin the stone.
I had to constantly chase him down to get them back to my house to fix things. He would rarely respond and one time after texting (very nicely) to find out what time his crew planned to arrive the next day (because I have a life and plans too), he responded "Mel, I can't stop everything I'm doing to jump on your texts. I don't know what time." I had later found out that his crew forgot to tie a few slabs down during transport and they fell off and broke. Zero excuse to be a dick and HOW INCOMPETENT IS YOUR CREW?!?!?
Teo's guys had to come back several times to fix their mistakes. After they buffed the bonding agent off, they left a wet mark (which turns significantly darker) and sealed over it which made it impossible to dry, which means they had to come back to remove the seal, let it dry then seal again. Mind you, every time they have to do this, I have to clear off all kitchen counters and cannot use the kitchen for 24 hours. They had to come reseal a few times and it's still being stained by water. Other professionals say it's just not that difficult to do and quartzite does not have this problem... they've never seen such a thing.
Upon telling Teo about the damage done to the peninsula, he told me to send him the bill and refused to see photos of the damage because it would just upset him. When I sent him the invoice directly from the painter, he responded with "No". I called to ask what on Earth he meant by that, only to be forwarded to his voicemail after 2 rings. My husband called to sort things out and Teo told him he refrained from responding "Fuck you". What... the.... HELL is wrong with this human?!?!?!
In that time, before I had sent him the invoice, he was scheduled to do the counters for our bathrooms and laundry room as well. While trying to get him to tell me if the one slab was enough to cover what we needed to cover so that I could get a matching slab from the same batch if not, he promised he would let me know that night... a week later, still couldn't get an answer out of him. I told him he's holding up this project and we're now brushing our teeth out of the kitchen sink because we cannot move forward without him... he told me to "make other decisions".
As for the stains, because they cannot seem to seal it properly, we followed Teo's instructions verbatim and now we have stains on top of stains. When we called to tell him that his suggestion has now ruined our quartzite, he said "don't send me a bill, this is not my problem, I told your wife to not get this stone". Mind you, he assured me quartzite is the strongest and most resilient of them all. He ended up hanging up on my husband, who was extremely calm and gentle with him (because we knew his temper/bi-polar disorder by now).
I have been nothing but nice to this guy, I don't have a clue what his problem is. I do know that the cabinet company has decided to no longer work with him because he got very nasty with another one of their clients. read more
