The beer was fantastic, bartender was so sweet and took time to earn what I like and sample, and price was very good for a beer in Indy. Next they had a cool compact disc jukebox that you could interact with for free. Also, the merch was top-notch so of course I had to purchase a T-shirt. I can't wait to go back when they release a new beer.

The service was fine, and the vibes are pretty nice to sit and drink inside or out. I'd like to come back in the winter on a cold night to drink pints inside and pretend I'm in Britain! Food was exactly what you'd expect from that kind of place, decent but nothing special. Our table got fish and chips, a blt, and a burger. All of it totally satisfactory. It looks like they have a very vegan friendly menu as well! If you're looking for a place to sit and have a beer with friends this fits the bill. If you're looking to have amazing food, there are probably other places I'd rather be.

We got there early and were able to have some drinks and food, including the nachos. Man, I was not expecting BBQ sauce and like a mustardy sauce and cheese and it was flavor exploding, loved it. With the event we had catered pork/chicken as well as sides. Everything was great, the peppercorn dressing for the salad was so amazing, I would definitely think of a salad here in the future. The venue inside the space, with the car, is quaint with seating and you get to see everything happening outside the space as well. This last time, we were in the original Guggman Haus brewing building that houses the coffee. This is adorable! We had service the entire time, including a bartender and the beer. They made everything super easy and I would consider this space for a baby shower, bridal shower, etc. We had 25 people and it fit wonderfully. There is also outside space for overflow, so it makes it very reasonable. Now onto the beer! I had the IPA Riverside, very hazy with a great flavor. Then I went off the rocker and ordered some prickly pear drink, I was not expecting how good that was! Refreshing and light, easy to drink (probably too easy) and the flavor was perfect! Try it if you are there, it is a newer option. PROS: Parking easy, street and lot Many open spaces and areas to rent Games are included, so eat, drink and enjoy company They have trivia nights, woohoo CONS: Sometimes the food is not always a hit, nothing to state specifically today, but I recall in the past saying to myself, don't order that again. So, try everything and find what you like. The place is great and the beer/food options are good, so you will find something you like.

The brewery is housed inside a beautifully restored church, and walking in for the first time is worth the visit alone. The soaring ceilings, stained glass, and original architecture make for one of the coolest brewery spaces I've been to around Indianapolis. We stopped in during the early afternoon, so it was nice and quiet. We were greeted right away, and our server was incredibly friendly. She walked us through the beer flights, made some great recommendations, and never made us feel rushed. The flights were also surprisingly affordable, which made trying a few different brews an easy decision. For lunch, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries, while my friend went with the Italian sandwich. Both plates were generously portioned, and neither of us left hungry. The pulled pork was tender, flavorful, and piled high on the sandwich, while the fries were perfectly crispy alongside it. Between the quality of the food and the reasonable prices, it felt like an excellent value. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between historic and casual. TVs are scattered throughout if you're catching a game, music plays in the background, and despite the grand setting, it still feels comfortable enough to settle in for a while. Whether you're stopping by for a beer flight, lunch, or just to admire the incredible building, St. Joseph Brewery is well worth adding to your Indianapolis list. I'll definitely be back.

Really wanted to enjoy my experience, but just couldn't. I'd say three is generous (probably closer…read moreto a 2.5 but I normally round up). I've been here once before, and remember the food and service were good, and wanted to return. We came in on a Thursday night, and the place wasn't super busy. First bad part of the night- the host. She acted like she had better places to be. She wore an earbud in her ear throughout the night- extremely rude in a customer service position. We were sat quickly. Our server was somewhat attentive throughout the night, though not the most outwardly friendly person. The place on the inside felt clean, and wasn't too loud. I appreciated how they stock Ash and Elm, as I'm not a big beer drinker, but do enjoy a cider. We started with a full order of beef poutine. It was a large portion for what you pay for, though it was lacking enough cheese curds. The food was lukewarm, almost as thought it had been sitting for too long. The beef had a weird flavor to it. My wife and I split an ale burger and a pork katsu sandwich. The burger was dry and room temp, the cheese formed in place (as thought it was being kept at room temp). Fries were also room temp. Burger didn't have much flavor, and the bun was hard. The pork katsu sandwich lacked flavor. The top toast was soggy, and the bottom piece was hard as a rock. The slaw lacked any taste. Again, theme of the night, was also room temperature. Would have appreciated food being served hot, as all of the food was served lukewarm, though the place wasn't busy. Service wasn't the best, and people acted like they had better places to be. I'm not normally a harsh critic, but too much badness in one meal for me.

I always order the Cuban when a new restaurant has one on the menu, and Big Lug's did not disappoint. It was juicy, flavorful, and one of the better Cubans I've had in a while. On my second visit, I went with the blackened cod tacos on corn tortillas (you can also get flour tortillas, and they offer shrimp and breaded fish options). They were fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Both visits I ordered the spicy garlic cauliflower, and it was outstanding. The homemade blue cheese dressing took it to another level. If you're on the fence about ordering it, don't be--it was one of my favorite things on the menu. The outdoor walk-up bar creates a really cool, laid-back atmosphere, making it a great place to relax whether you're meeting friends or just enjoying a meal by yourself. The staff was friendly, the service was excellent, and both meals came out quickly. I don't usually eat at the same restaurant twice on a trip, but Big Lug earned it. If I'm back in the area, it'll definitely be on my list again.

Big Lug is a very cool spot right off the Monon, and even better if you have a pooch with you!…read moreUnfortunately, our experience with the service was pretty disappointing. We sat right in the middle of the main thoroughfare and were completely ignored for at least 15 minutes before we finally flagged someone down. The guy, "H," apologized and said, "Oh, my bad--it's all good." We figured, no big deal, let's move on. We ordered pretty simple food, apps and were then going to put in some entrees once apps arrived. We asked for waters and a water bowl for our pups. He brought two waters--with no straws--and no dog bowl. We assumed he was going to grab the bowl, so we waited... and waited. Then I noticed him at the end of the bar leaning against some boxes, texting. So I finally got up, interrupted him and asked for the dog bowl. His response, "oh my bad." Our appetizers came out, and naturally, we asked for silverware. A few minutes later, I spotted "H" in the corner on his phone again. At that point I was thinking, seriously?! So I got up again, interrupted "H's" text convo and asked for silverware. His response again was, "Oh, my bad." I didn't respond to him I just turned around and went back to my seat. Honestly, the whole experience started feeling more like a self-serve restaurant than table service. It's a chill spot and we weren't being needy whatsoever. We never asked for any refills- we were merely asking for the basics. We wanted to order more food, but by that point we were pretty turned off and decided to just get the check. Then came the final straw: my guy had his license and credit card sitting on the table because he hadn't brought his wallet out for our monon trek. When "H" came back with the checkout thing, without question or hesitation - he grabbed the card and swiped it. We didn't even realize what happened until afterward. Maybe that's standard there, but I've never had a server just take my card without asking. Usually you get a "hey do we want to use this card? Or something to confirm. And of course the tip structure is skewed so the min is 20% unless you want to try to figure out to manually enter in 15% (which most ppl don't -incl my guy), so we left 20% and left irritated and still hungry. "H" didn't seem hungover or anything--he just genuinely seemed like he did not not give a shiiiit. We had to get up three separate times to get things we had already requested: the dog bowl, a couple straws, and silverware. (Basics) And a quick note on the 7-Layer Hoss Dip: don't expect seven layers. It comes in a small thick ceramic bowl and was basically beans, guacamole, a tiny bit of corn and some hard cheese on top. Definitely would not recommend it. Way too "beany" and not worth $16 at all. The southwest rolls were decent- very fried tho. Cheesecake Factory's are better ;) The location and dog-friendly atmosphere are great, with the exception of the homeless camp right at their patio entrance, but unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Hopefully this was just an off night, because Big Lug has a lot going for it.

From the second we sat down, it was clear that the restaurant was running at full capacity and extremely busy. Despite the clear rush and high volume of customers, Shea handled every single table with remarkable composure, grace, and effortless efficiency. What stood out most was her genuine kindness and warmth. Often, when a dining room is that packed, you expect service to feel rushed or transactional--and understandably so. However, Shea made us feel completely welcomed and prioritized. She took the time to check in on us, made sure our water glasses were never empty, and brought a wonderful, positive energy to the table that completely elevated our dining experience. Her attentiveness under pressure is a rare quality, and it did not go unnoticed. The food throughout our meal was delightful, and the brownie at the end was absolutely fantastic--rich, warm, and the perfect finish to the evening. But as good as the dessert was, the highlight of our entire visit was undeniably the top-tier service provided by Shea. She turned what could have been a standard meal out during a busy shift into an incredible, memorable experience. It is clear that Shea takes tremendous pride in her work and truly cares about hospitality. Employees with her level of dedication, poise, and genuine warmth are hard to come by, and she is a tremendous asset to your team.
