They're known for their cereal lattes (tastes like lucky charms milk!!) but I would also recommend their cappuccinos - strong and frothy to perfection. Hole in the wall place with awesome service and worthwhile drinks! I especially loved their Fall Specials which I can't recall but one was maple bourbon and the other one had sage in the title but they were both very, very good. I actually came here twice while visiting Salem and both times the cashier was so, so friendly and genuine I loved it. I have such respect for retail/restaurant workers who can handle massive crowds and be so chill, friendly, and collected. I've been there and it's not easy. The menu items were original and tasty and if it wasn't for the long lines I would've ordered some food. The panini sounded divine. Definitely a must stop for your caffeine fix! read more

Please don't sleep on this quaint coffee shop right off Essex street. Left side of the rope is where you wait for your order, right side is where you place your order. On the first day, both the boyfriend and I got the cold brew with their pumpkin syrup and oat milk. Did you know they made their syrups in house? You can definitely tell. I told my boyfriend if I could, I would marry that pumpkin syrup. He came second to it and he was okay with that. The ratio in our cold brew was so good that I was mad I didn't get a bigger size. It was so good we came back the next day and got their iced latte with the pumpkin syrup and it slapped. Brew box, I will miss your every pumpkin season. read more

We came in for a quick breakfast and coffee. the bourbon old-fashioned themed coffee got us in the door. The biscuit breakfast sandwich made me wish I returned while in town. I'm a big fan of biscuits and I have a weird scale on how I rate baked goods. Is it good on its own, is it good as a sandwich vessel, is it only good with a special sauce? The biscuit was one of the best for a breakfast sandwich. I loved it and while I thought this was a four-star experience, I feel the biscuit brings it up higher. The staff was friendly, worked efficiently and the food was ready in a minimal amount of time. Sadly, one of our best dining experiences in town. Brew Box was my top-pick #1 spot to go to, to start our "snack tour" in Salem. And by snack tour, I mean mostly us eating small bites of anything that looks or sound good and this was the way to start our trip! This pretty little cafe had character and seems to encourage creativity when it comes to their drinks and baked goods. They may come off as just simple bites but they are any but. And drinks here, these folks are total chemist. Biscuit & Jam- This buttery deliciousness is the holy grail of all biscuits! It's not flakey like a typical biscuit, similar to the texture of a corn bread but with the more enhance flavors of those nostalgic ingredients. It really should be replacing every single biscuit out there. Turmeric Tea Latte- I don't know if I have ever encountered anyone who could mix up a concoction with turmeric and can make it taste this good. Besides the turmeric and black tea, it had cinnamon, ginger, maple syrup with steamed milk, making this the perfect elixir for this New England weather. Overall Service: They immediately greeted us when we walked up to the counter and was really patient with us I was contemplating on what to try out first. Brew Box is a tiny little place, but it's a must-go-to place in Salem. The biscuits are very unique; I haven't had anything like them before, they're almost focaccia like. I got the egg and cheese on a biscuit and loved the biscuit so much that I then ordered a biscuit with jam. The scones also looked great. The coffee (Tandem) is really delicious here too. Mega props to a place like this doing great quality food as well as spot-on coffee. The workers here were so welcoming and hospitable, and I appreciated their patient accommodation to me and my friend. Note: it would be beneficial for the website to say that it's take-out only since there are old pictures of counter seating. The Baked goods are flavorless. We had the pumpkin cheesecake bar (too dry, very dense, tasted nothing like cheesecake), a scone (smelled like herbs, tasted like....not much, and was not like any scone I've tried), a pumpkin muffin (this was my favorite), and a mini apple pie (literally tasted like flour). I didn't try any of the prepared sandwiches or drinks so maybe that's where they focus effort. Not anything I'd recommend that I tried. read more

This is a great little (literally) coffee shop in the heart of Essex St. There's only a few bar stools to sit at along the wall when you first enter, so mostly this is a grab and go spot. They offer all the essential hot and cold coffee drinks, along with several seasonal specials, as well as some food (both breakfast and lunch options) and baked goods. But they're known for their cereal milk (which, if you've never had before, is exactly what it sounds: cereal that's been sitting in milk long enough to infuse it's flavor); so be sure to check out what the day's offering is and add a splash to your coffee (side note: wish they offered an alternative milk option for this). We had americanos that were exactly what we wanted/needed, and also snagged a vegan pumpkin muffin with a brown sugar pecan crumble. I basically unhinged my jaw and shoved it in, because it was so moist, flavorful, and delicious. I appreciate that they had several vegan baked good options to choose from, and probably should have gotten one of everything. Also, it felt nice just to step away from the chaos of Essex St into a pretty normal indie coffee shop that either tourists passing by aren't noticing or aren't on their radar. But this was one of the highlights of my Salem outing, so thanks Brew Box! read more

Coffee was weak for my liking but otherwise not bad, definitely fresh. 2 stars for the food, extra star because the staff were awesome. My s.o. heard about this place through TikTok (yeah I know) due to their cereal milk lattes. I was down to try it out. The location is on Essex street which is the touristy part of Salem so prices are reflective of that. But hey if you're willing to pay $5+ at Starbucks why not support local business. Anyways the place is small, I didn't see anywhere to sit so keep that in mind seems like a grab-and-go kind of place. We came on a Saturday morning, it wasn't too busy, the staff was friendly and we didn't have to wait too long. We got two cereal milk lattes, one breakfast burrito, and one pesto grilled cheese. The cereal latte of the day was coco puffs, which was ok - I would def try it again as the flavor selection is constantly changing. I liked my grilled cheese sandwich it was flavorful, had the right amount of cheese and pesto, and was filling. My s.o. on the other hand was not a fan of the breakfast burrito. His commentary "who puts beets in a breakfast burrito?" He would not order again. All in all, I would come back and try their other selections! read more

For anyone curious, it's an iced latte using milk that has been soaked with cereal to get the residual flavor into the milk. Our first order used fruity pebbles and our second had Cocoa Puffs. The essence of yum!! (By the way, there are no non-dairy options for this menu item. But there are for regular drinks. Missed opportunity, oat milk would be delicious with this.) Knocking a star for the inconsistent service. Cashier was friendly but one of the baristas was short with a customer asking questions behind us. This isn't a gulp and forget caffeine fix. The roasts are good quality with nuanced flavors. Cut right through my morning congestion and fog. Not only is the food good, but interesting. Tarragon breakfast burrito? You'd think it'd be way too Caucasoid, but it's clever and still has great sausage. Music here is good too. The coffee is pretty good. I've had it here several times. Recently I was turned off however by the fact that they are verbally asking you for tips when you order. Talk about being put on the spot. Say no and they will think you're cheap but a six dollar latte is enough cost for most people. I felt cornered to the point that I will not go back here because of it. I personally have a big downvote to our tipping culture as compared to almost everywhere else in the world. You get paid to make lattes, make lattes. Why do I need to tip for something you're already getting paid to do? Servers are different as they make less than minimum wage. Stop soliciting tips. 9 AM on a Sunday there was not a very long line. However it took 25 minutes to give a cold brew with a shot, a latte and a chai. My daughter threw away her banana bread said it was the worst. The spice chai was the worst I've ever had in my life. My husband said the cold brew was the worst he's ever had and my mother said it was the worst latte she's ever had. We threw everything away. What a great find! The coffee here is brewed a bit stronger than dunkin (what a relief) with higher quality beans and the house made syrups are tasty (try the rosemary). I love how most menu items were carefully thought out and had great unique flavors. They make cereal milk lattes and have hop infused cold brew that was lightly dry hopped and nothing too offensive. We also got a biscuit egg cheese sausage breakfast sandwich ($5.45) that I shared with my husband for a small and quick bite. All around impressed! read more

One of the best coffee shops in Salem! They have very unusual for this town interior, what makes them specific. Painted walls took my attention when I almost passed this place, but when I see that I couldn't just pass it. They almost don't have tables to eat, just a bar stand along the wall. It you get a sandwich with coffee it is enough. But if you plan to read a newspaper enjoying a cup of espresso, so this place isn't your choice. They have a big variety of hot and cold drinks, as well as sandwiches, salads and deserts. I've got an Avacado toast, a cappuccino and a scone. Everything were delicious. Avacado today was with Avacado paste, a ring of tomato, spices and oils. It is very delicious, I will make the same at home definitely. Cappuccino was great too. Very good sort of coffee and very professional barista! Unfortunately, I didn't find a restroom. Maybe they have it somewhere behind the kitchen, but I didn't ask. If you are on the car, there are a lot of meters outside. And, also, they selling their branded T-shirt's. It is very nice. I definitely will visit this place again when I am in Salem. read more

Not worth the prices. Decided to stop here on my trip to Salem since their website noted vegan options. I order an oat milk cortado, avocado toast and a vegan maple pop tart. The pop tart was actually delicious. The avocado toast was skimpy for $6. Just 1 slice of bread (not the kind they advertised) and a brush of avocado. I know avocados are expensive but there was legit hardly any on there. When I saw my receipt it didn't specify oat milk for the cortado so I asked to make sure. The gentleman said he was gonna checked and walked away. I waited a cpl minutes but he never came back. He just stood around chatting. Overall the service wasn't good and the prices weren't worth it. I was better off going to Josie Bee Bakes but I wanted to try something new. read more
