Personally, I wouldn't sit in here as there isn't much seating. However, I love the vibe of this place. I love how their menu is written out with so many colors. The workers were patient and even waited for us as we ordered (there are so many options!) Candy bar latte 9/10: You must get this drink if you're a fan of sweet things. It's not sweet enough to make your teeth ache; don't worry. House Pumpkin spice latte 3/10: I expected more out of this drink. It was spicy ??! Simple place, but its simplicity is what makes this place perfect. They have so many options for those with dietary restrictions and the barista/owner (?) makes sure to carry gluten free options. They are also a green company, so everything but the aluminum foil used to wrap the heated food in is compostable, which I thought was very cool. We stopped in after having walked and walked and toured and walked all morning without any sustenance. We just happened to be nearby and gave it a shot. Guy at the counter seemed annoyed we came in. But then he was the same to everyone and we decided it was just his demeanor. Didn't take away from the delicious BATS sandwich I got, but I must mention that the bacon was hard, not crispy, and I did wonder if I might crack a tooth trying to bite into it. While visiting Salem and looking for an afternoon pick-me-up, my friend and I stopped in the Wolf Next Door coffee. I always love to try local coffee shops whenever I travel and the Wolf Next Door definitely has that local vibe. I decided to get a cold brew coffee with some of their homemade brown sugar cinnamon syrup. The cold brew was refreshing, and the syrup had the perfect level of sweetness to it without being overwhelming. We didn't try any of their food items or anything else on the menu so all this review can speak to is the delicious cold brew, homemade syrup, and friendly staff. read more

This cute little cafe is located near the house of seven gables and the Salem waterfront. I found the staff to be welcoming, but watching nail biting behind the counter while eating was a massive red flag for cleanliness. I ordered a biscuit with egg, cheese and beyond sausage and I felt that the presentation was immensely lacking for the price of nearly $7 per sandwich and many fantastic shops in town. The biscuit was lovely but the iced chai latte was just okay, lacking in flavor overall- seems it may be premade? It's been on my list to try but I don't think I'll be back. read more

Came in on my day of cafe hopping around Salem for matcha, and {spoilers} they were all about the same with this one being the close winner. Which to my palette, as someone who loves matcha and regularly gets it in Bay Area CA, was around a 6/10. That said, I ordered an iced matcha latte with their house-made Lavender syrup, which was refreshing and had a lovely floral-lavender flavor but not much matcha flavor. Pros: - fresh-whisked matcha - very friendly and fast staff - decent amount of seating for the space and a nice ambiance - compostable cups etc - a nice Free Pantry and Swap cabinet for the community! We stopped by this coffee house on our morning walk because my partner is the coffee drinker out of the two of us. It was super crowded, which made it clear it's a local favorite. Everyone was really nice. They had tons of flavor and dietary options, which as someone who admittedly doesn't like coffee that, well, tastes like coffee, I appreciate. They have a compost bin, which I thought was a cool touch. My partner got a Bee's Knees which is espresso, milk, and honey ($6.70) and really enjoyed it. Cute place. I went there with my Beagle because on ChatGPT. They said I could and I did not think to check the local ordinances. They do not have anywhere to sit outside... I sat down with my Beagle who is very well trained and quiet and started chatting with two ladies next to me for about 10 minutes. I ordered several items and then when I went to pick up my coffee, I was rudely told that I had to leave, " right away". I stated that I just ordered two items and it was hot outside. I needed a place to sit and ChatGPT had led me to this place. I did not understand the ordinances and her response was "well ChatGPT lies " As a responsible dog owner, I definitely understand that I should have checked the rule/laws, but it should've been posted somewhere or she should've told me before I placed the order. Located across the water on the wharf part of Salem, this tiny, adorable coffee shop offers breakfast sandwiches, some snacks and pastries, as well as coffee and tea. Highly recommend, the lady at the cash register was super friendly, and it is a quick walk from the Seven Gables museum or 15 minute walk from downtown. read more

Tasty lattes, cozy and small café. Wolf Next Door has some interesting seasonal flavours like a latte with a bit of cayenne, some fall flavours like pumpkin. I got an iced mocha latte and it was good. I don't live in the area but have have gone to Wolf Next Door at least a couple of times when I've been in the area. It's a nice business and I'd recommend! They do have a capacity of maybe 10 people so there may be a little line so it isn't cramped in the café. Service is efficient and they use compostable cups and utensils for those who like a coffee place that tries to be more sustainable. Try it out! read more

We skipped breakfast in Boston so we could try out a breakfast spot in Salem. This place wasn't too far from the harbor so we decided to check it out. No one was there when we went it in so we had time to take a look at the menu. My wife had the veggie special with a matcha. I had the lox bagel. Lox bagel was pretty good. My wife found the veggie special "unspecial." She said it was too plain. Perhaps getting the hummus instead of the avocado would have made a difference. The interior is small and they "borrow" the outside seats from the bar next door. May be worth checking out other items. read more

Was visiting in town and came across this cute coffee shop while waiting to visit The Seven Gables. Staff were all inviting as well as their menu options. Recommend to one of their hand pies. I had a ham & swiss with a roasted garlic mustard. The hand pies look like empanadas but the crust is more flavorful. The ambience and the people were very nice. It is a cute little place with a lot of potential. Emphasis on potential... first red flag was the cans of du monde coffee. Coming from two baristas with a background in espresso quality, du monde coffee is made of all the "bad" espresso beans that are ground and thrown away. The espresso at this place was atrocious. Overly bitter for espresso. There's a mixture of bad barista and bad espresso beans creating a bad cup of espresso. The beans are over-extracted and too acidic. My disappointment is immeasurable. I can't tell if the baristas have ever tried their coffee or don't know what good coffee quality tastes like. Very disappointing. Sorry to be a karen, but something needs to be done. Everyone knows the old saying: "good things come in small packages", right? Well, the Wolf Next Door is a prime example of how true that is. Wolf is small, there's no denying that. It's situated on a one way street in one of Salem's oldest historic neighborhoods one block from the harbor, if you're driving, you'll go right past it. And that will be your loss. Find a place to park and go in! The coffee is great (don't know why anyone would say otherwise), the staff is friendly and helpful, the breakfast sandwiches are delicious and there's enough on the menu for everyone. Add on that in the morning, before the neighboring bar opens, you can eat outside on their numerous tables, this is a great "Salem experience" kind of place. Find your way there.
