Pro tip for tourists ... there's no where they let you use the restroom without being a customer. So if you need to use one AND want a tasty treat, come here! We had a few chocolate croissants, they were flaky and warm and very tasty. We had a chilled apple cider too, I highly recommend. The cafe was clean and the bathroom was also clean! read more

Friendly customer service, nice and cool seating area that's pretty spacious. They have a clean bathroom with a passcode. The food was great, we ended up there 2 days in a row. Kids had a strawberry mango smoothie that was recommended--I'm that annoying customer that asks what's popular or what they like. They also tried an Apple turnover I think? And a chocolate muffin. The next day I tried the ham and cheese crepe, which was a change up for me, I've only had sweet crapes--this one was nice and savory. My son got the Nutella waffle, it was huge and messy. Came here for a coffee and a pastry. Staff member that helped us was friendly. Tables inside to sit. I ordered a caramel macchiato with almond milk. Got Oat milk instead, which was fine. Came mid November and they were decorated so cozy and so pretty for Christmas. It was windy and cold, yet my toddler was PROMISED icecream so we came in for a scoop. It was warm, and cozy. Full sandwich menu, crepes, every coffee you can think of. It was nice to be able to sit down and enjoy a scoop of icecream, use the bathroom, take a nice 30 min break. It was freezing and we had some time to kill before a ghost tour. It was freezing. Low 30s and the wind chill caused it to feel 20 degrees. We stopped at this adorable cafe. We ordered hot white mocha and a hot chocolate. Coffee was good. No complaints at all. You need a code to use the restroom but that's smart. Bathrooms are only for paying customers. read more

The ice tea is deff from a box, and my feta cheese sandwich was not good. I overall ended up throwing everything I got away and going to a different cafe, its also quite expensive. Typical cafe vibes. My boyfriend also did not like his expresso. I would recommend going elsewhere. read more

We visited Salem the week after Christmas and stopped into the Red Line Cafe. It's a cute place with charming decorations, and the service was fairly prompt and friendly. It has a convenient location. However, I was thoroughly unimpressed by the food and drinks. The chai was definitely boxed and overly sweet, almost syrupy. The cake and baklava we ordered from the front case looked great, but it was clear that they were a few days old and were very dry and flavorless. I don't very often leave food uneaten, but these were really bad, and we ended up throwing them away. It's possible they were leftovers from before Christmas, but please, cafe staff, check the freshness on your baked goods before serving. read more

This little gem has become our go to for quick meals in Salem. They have a lovely assortment of coffee and tea, toasted sandwiches, pastries, muffins, and these really great croissants with ham and cheese in them. Service is super friendly and quick, and I love the way they arrange the tables so you can watch the bustling activities on Essex Street but from a quieter spot. There's a few little nooks to curl up in too if you just want to visit with friends. They even have photography and art on the walls from local artists to enjoy. read more

They started making my drink while I was in the middle of ordering it and it was done before I paid! Their chai latte was the best I've ever had!! Read some reviews about staff being rude but decided to risk it anyways. The woman who took our order was kind but the woman making the drinks was not necessarily friendly. This place kind of killed our long weekend vibe. We stopped into Salem for a walk some lunch and coffee and decided to go here. We ordered two hand pies, chicken and spanakopita and my husband ordered an espresso. We knew something was wrong when they immediately pulled the pies out of the case and gave them to us. So here we are walking to a table with room temp hand pies. No mention of heating them from the staff. The spinach pie was passable at room temp but the chicken pie felt like were eating cat food or something. You could tell the pies would have been wonderful if they just microwaved it for 45 secs or something. The espresso seemed to be a half cup of black coffee as it also came out immediately and I'm told "tasted worse than a burnt Keurig" We also weren't given a receipt and they had coded bathrooms which is just obnoxious because then we didn't have the code. The restaurant itself and its menu are attractive and have a lot of promise. The location is really nice. The bathroom was clean. Service was just really really bad today. What a fun little cafe! We visited Salem in mid-October to get a taste of the Haunted Happenings. Getting hungry around brunch time, we spotted the Red Line Cafe. The line was VERY long (which is likely only true because of the large amount of tourists) but we moved quickly through. The young man at the register was speedy and friendly with taking our order. We ordered an Iced Chai and a Lemonade, which we paired with a Lox Bagel and Egg+Bacon+Cheese on Ciabatta. The food took a while, but it was a rewarding wait when the seemingly simple meals were delicious. If you're patient, definitely go to the Red Line Cafe ASAP - if you're not, wait until November and try it out. read more

Out of all the coffee shops and even the ones trending on social media I managed to try all but one . This one ended up being my favorite. The staff were super nice they had fresh pastries and many coffee options. It was nice a big in there with space to eat your lunch if needed. They were reasonably priced and great sizes. I ended up going back there on my last day . They have coffee specials too but don't know if it changes daily or not. We had sandwich and bagel from there and it was perfect for a quick bite before lunch or dinner. I definitely recommend it right in the middle of Essex. Note that this review is solely based on the coffee and the condition of the establishment. Our party of 6 arrived here shortly before they closed. We all ordered some version of coffee (black with cream, black with sugar, latte, a specialty drink, etc.). They were all very delicious and satisfying; however, the service was muy slow (to their credit, it was right before they closed and the place was packed). You could tell that the place received a lot of traffic due to how unkempt the floors were and how disregarded the bathrooms seemed. The men's restroom appeared to not have seen a broom or sanitary wipe in many moons and the women's bathroom was void of toilet paper. In fact, when a patron asked to have toilet paper placed in the women's restroom, her petition was ignored. This is not a bad place but it could use a little TLC. However, if you're just running in to grab some coffee and jet, this is a perfect place to do so. read more

So we ended up here randomly while walking Essex street. And I'm so glad! It was amazing. We ordered a few things! The spanicopitta which was a perfect flaky pastry. The spinach filling was to die for. My husband and I were fighting over the last bite haha I won of course. We also got the bacon egg sandwich bagel. The cheese on it was sooo good! The bacon and egg were cooked to perfection also and we couldn't get enough. The bagel was perfect too. Not too crunchy and not too soft. Loved it. Also got the chicken melt. It had this yummy bbq taste to it and was so saucy and delicious. Seriously couldn't get enough! We shared this without a fight bc it would've just been wrong to expect not to share this fairly haha.
