Four stars. After wandering around Salem for a while, Witchside Tavern ended up being exactly what we were looking for. The place is bright, clean, and has a modern aesthetic without feeling like it was designed solely for Instagram. It just feels comfortable. The staff were friendly from the start and made us feel welcome, which goes a long way. I ordered the Cali Smash burger, and it was a winner. The ingredients actually tasted fresh, especially the avocado, and I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the fried egg, but it worked surprisingly well. Add the Witchside sauce and everything came together better than I expected. It was also big enough that I eventually gave up trying to eat it like a civilized human being and finished it with a fork. No shame. Both of my kids ordered the fried shrimp platters and absolutely demolished them. That's usually the best review you're going to get from kids. Not a single complaint, no leftovers, and they were still talking about how good the shrimp was afterward. The menu has plenty of options, the food came out fresh, and the whole place has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Salem has no shortage of places competing for your attention, but Witchside Tavern is one I'd happily come back to. Sometimes you just want a good meal without a fog machine, a crystal ball, or someone trying to sell you a haunted spoon. read more

This is a local's favorite spot and a great find. It's a family-friendly place. The staff was awesome and friendly. I liked the place. I found it cool. The beautiful paintings on the walls added a nice charm. I had the onion rings. They were crispy, tasty, and good. I tasted my friend's burger. It was delicious. I would order it. The food was good overall: the smash burger had crispy edges, and the fries were light and crunchy. The chowder was thick, but we would have liked more clams. Loaded with diced vegetables and greens, seasoned and splashed with balsamic onion jam and basil aioli, it is a delicious and filling meal. Fish and chips 5/5 as well, onion rings are a welcome addition. Group tried three varieties of wraps served with fries, everyone loved the fries. Irish Benedict and Reuben Sandwich. Needed a nice ice cold drink after walking around in the heat in Salem! Stumbled upon this restaurant and it only seemed fitting. We were sat immediately and the vibes were instantaneous! Music was amazing. 2000s pop was jamming and my friend and I instantly started jamming out and dancing. Ordered some calamari, a chicken quesadilla, margarita. Calamari was good, not the best but not bad either. Chicken quesadilla was delicious, very flavorful and actually a big quesadilla. My friend and I decided to order their $5 mystery shots. It tasted like one of those caramel hard candies. Not bad for $5. Plenty of seating and all employees were super friendly and efficient. The tavern is cute but the service was terrible. The food was ok. Our waiter took our order and disappeared. We had to go find him to get tartar sauce for the fish that we ordered. Never saw him again. No drink refills...nothing. When he brought us the bill he then told us that for October they were automatically adding the 20% tip!! I guess he knew he was getting tipped so he didn't have to give good service. He was NOT worth the $32 tip we were forced to pay. Beware! Ask about the tipping BEFORE you order. read more

It's ok. The ambience is if a sports pub decided to have more witchy themes and every TV played something other than sports. The good? Service was quick, friendly and our waters never went without being filled quickly and our finished plates were cleared in an extremely timely manner. We came to Salem to explore and after a few tours, decided to stop here for drinks and appetizers. Since it's Halloween season, there was a line when we arrived, but the wait for our group of four was only about 20 minutes. The place had a lively vibe with old-school R&B playing and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We tried the margarita flight, which was too sweet for my taste, but would be great for anyone who likes sweeter cocktails. I also had the mystery shot, which surprisingly tasted pretty good. And I have to mention the coffee that was noticeably better than most. And today we had Gianna serving us and she was great. We love breakfast at the tavern (and lunch too!).
