I consider myself an advanced beginner when it comes to skiing and I find the slopes at Bretton Woods an ideal location to practice, steadily advance my skills, challenge myself when I'm looking to level up a bit, and alternately kick back when I just want a simple ride from top to bottom. While their lift tickets can be a bit pricy, hitting them up during the shoulder seasons can help with affordability. I've been here in both early winter and late spring and found the trails to be in good condition! As someone who sticks to the greens with an occasional blue mixed in, their trails offer enough variety to keep me entertained throughout the day. I like having my pick of 4 chairlifts and a gondola to check out different sections of the mountain. On my last visit, there was a very challenging weather day the day before my visit and it was clear the staff were hard at work overnight to groom the trails. Throughout the day, they were actively working to open additional trails (at which they were very successful) as well as firing the snow machines to get other parts of the mountain open as soon as possible. The lower lodge is straightforward, offering plenty of seating to change into your ski boots and eat a meal. The food is pricy but we always try to make sure we have options out in the car to manage our costs throughout the day. That isn't unique to this ski resort of course though. The upper lodge at the top of the gondola is nice as well. Unlike the lower lodge, their bathrooms are on the same level as the entrance so no having to manage stairs in clunky boots. Very convenient and well stocked shop at the base lodge in Breton Woods Ski Area. Although it could merit an expansion, the store takes good care of its footprint and it offers everything from convenience items like sun screen lip stick, to beanies, gloves and clothes. Being a part of an Omni resort, one can expect upscale items and apparel to be displayed. Superb service, smiling and helpful staff, and reasonable prices. Ski school review: Our kids have had stellar learning experiences over the last few winters here, both in small group and larger class settings. The instructors they've had have been not only skillful but enthusiastic, patient, kind and fun (which is sadly not a given at other resorts in the area). The kids have started to rank their lesson experiences at different mountains, lol -- Bretton Woods is always at the top. read more

Skied, err should be more like skated the slopes on Sunday 2/11. Should have gone with my gut instinct and stayed home for the day after the 60-deg temp on Saturday and very hard freeze overnight Sunday, the slopes were either groomed way too early or not at all and froze into a sheet of ice; many slopes with signs Not Groomed. But NO warning at the ticket sales counter when you're dropping several hundred $$$ for lift tickets. Groomers should have waited as late as possible to groom to break-up cobble-sized chunks of ice that had formed overnight...dangerous conditions IMHO. it was barely manageable and not fun. Next time I would expect to see a WARNING that conditions were far below acceptable and the inherent risks too high and not worth the purchase price. read more

Everything about the mountain was just alright, besides the staff. The staff was beyond rude and disrespectful. I was skiing Monday 1/20/25 and arrived around 7:30 I was walking up to the gondola around 8 and they built a maze to walk around but there was another path to access if you didn't want to walk around in arbitrary circles for no reason. As I'm approaching the gondola that has absolutely no line and no one around an overweight clown in his 50s or 60s starts screaming at me that only club members don't have to walk around and threatening to pull my pass, excuse me, I'm paying to be here. I let this clowns disrespect slide the first time and go get some turns in. When I return to the gondola there is a group of 4 young gentlemen who this guy and the other lifity was again screaming at (one gem was (this place is for the club and your not in it), excuse me we are guests paying to be there)(again those four were the only people at the gondola) I walked through the arbitrary maze and these dude again starts screaming at me. The group and I told him to chill out stop power tripping and learn to treat and talk to paying guests with respect. After this they took down the arbitrary maze. Maybe they could have focused on fixing their crowd flow issues instead of harassing their lifeblood (the paying customers) no wonder nobody is going to pay thousands of dollars to skip a non-existent line at a ski resort that is never busy anyways. You guys are just pushing away the people that are actually supporting your mountain by trying to restrict access to your paying customers. Act like elitist scum and make skiing exclusive and you will lose. Why are all your lift operators bitter old men in their 60s that just like to ruin everyone's ski day? read more

We love BW and have been season pass holders for at least four years. However, we had a problem yesterday. My wife is immunocompromised. We wanted to use the gondola without others on board. The first two times up, no issues. When asked by others whether they could join us, we explained why we'd rather go up alone. No issues. Then, as we got on for the third time, a couple jumped the line and charged into our gondola. A nasty argument ensued. There was no attendant available for us to share our wishes on riding alone. This was not the first time there has been on attendant. I suppose the cold lured the attendant into the lift house. Management, none of us like how we need to alter our patterns of behavior due to Covid. As a major employer, and a major service provider, please set the proper example. read more

Had an awesome lunch after taking in spectacular views on the gondola ride up the mountain! Highly recommend the mountain margarita and citizens cider. Our server Jordan was attentive and able to provide recommendations. I had the switchback salad with goat cheese and heirloom tomato, the dressing was light vinaigrette which was lovely's from complemented the goat cheese. I added chicken, which was a bit dry and was cold; the other option is salmon which I may have chosen had I known the chicken was cold. My husband had the chicken curry wrap with fries was delicious! I have been skiing here for years. I got a season pass and a two month long condo rental this year so I could ski all the time. The cons. First off I paid 1079 for the white mountain super pass. I'm supposed to get a discount in the general store in the basement of the lodge at Bretton Woods. But that depended on the employee working there. So some times I did not get a discount because she said "the white mountains super pass is not accepted here" wut?! Also I was supposed to be able to get a discounted lift ticket once per day. A very rude woman from Costa Rica would always give me a hard time when I wanted to get a discounted lift ticket and would try to make my friend pay full price. Super annoying especially when you buy this ticket so you can have the perks that are listed on the Bretton woods website. But the other employee was awesome and never gave me an issue. Another thing was the ticket scanners. I skied almost every single day from January 2 to Feb 19. Even on days where there are 30 other people on the mountain they still would Impede my entry to the lift to scan my pass. I have had over a dozen season passes at different mountains in the past 10 years and have never found pass scanners this anal retentive ever. Seriously I ride the lift 30 times in a day. Do you really need to freaking scan me in each and every time? It's funny because my friends with day passes almost never got scanned. Just myself and other season pass holders. Super strange and a waste of my precious time Weekends can be super crowded with novice skiers who flounder about like lost kids at the movie theater (like every other mountain on a weekend) The parks are lacking despite all the snow we got this year. Build bigger jumps please. None of the employees would give a straight answer when asked about the gondola not being finished. The pros. Like most ski areas it's a ghost town on week days. Used to be our favorite family vacation spot. The one thing that hasn't changed are the prices... but the quality is beyond horrible. I had an earring vanish from my room... No follow up... the Spa - don't bother. The spa doesn't know how to do basic mani/ pedis... no cuticle cleaning or proper toenail cleaning. The girl that did my mani kept looking at her watch. I finally asked her if I was inconveniencing her and she laughed & said she had another appointment and wanted to get out early. Lastly - CHECK YOUR BILLS... THEY ADD A 20 - 40% fee on everything.., when asked they lie ... the manager of the Spa lied stating some story about how this fee can't be removed and it has nothing to do w gratuity ... I took my children here during my family vacation to Bartlett and I have to admit I was very pleasantly surprised. I have a child with special needs and I was hesitant to bring him to this excursion. My autistic stepson absolutely loves thrill rides and I knew he would love zip lining. My biggest concern was the acceptance and patience of the staff. I could not have been any more surprised than I was. I believe this establishment has been the most accepting of my stepson than any other place. They listened to my direction in how to approach and teach my stepson. They all communicated with each other to stay on the same page. They made accommodations to slow me to help him get prepared for the zip line...these people just stepped up. My mother, who has not had a lot of public event experiences with my stepson like this one, even noted how amazing the staff was with my autistic stepson. Other great parts of this day was that the equipment was well maintained, the safety precautions adhered to and the staff was just FRIENDLY! This place is obviously geared towards skiing but this summer time fun experience left a very positive lasting mark on myself and my family. For the two people who haven't skied Bretton Woods already - it's good. Not perfect. But what place is perfect? On the good side: The Learning Quad (a teeny chair that serves a really gentle bunny hill) is an excellent spot for beginners. Up higher, you get breathtaking views of Mount Washington and wide, rolling groomers with plenty of places to kick things into high gear. I found some really fun blues, just challenging enough for an old lady like me. There's a candy shop at the top of one lift, a restaurant at another. And bathrooms! At the top of one lift there was a port-a-potty and there's actual bathrooms near one of the lifts that's halfway up. This is brilliant, and I'd almost give BW five stars for that alone. The lodge is nice and the ski shop is excellent. Why four stars and not five? There's an unloading area at the top of Bethlehem that is absolute bedlam when it's at all crowded. People coming off the top are running along the back - and fast. People coming off the chair are coming in sideways, and there's trails in three directions - so people skiing in three directions. There's a mid-way chair but you have to ski downhill and to the right - when others are skiing straight and lefts at the same time. And the trail just under this area is steep (only for a second, but still), it's kind of nuts. Still and all, it's a fun place. I think a little organization might make it better, but maybe the danger zone is part of the challenge for some folks. read more

Those are some really great honors, but that really blows if you're not a n00b and/or a snowboarder... Nearly two feet of snow had graced New Hampshire in the 24 hours that had lead up to my visit at Bretton Woods and I was excited to get on the mountain and plow through all of that fresh untouched powder... I could not have been more disappointed if Ed McMahon was knocking on my front door and punking me! It was like Houdini decided to run all over the mountain and perform his extraordinary vanishing acts on all of the snow that had just dropped... The runs were groomed to the packed powder base - "WTF!" - I screamed to myself, why would you do that!!! I wanted to tie a rope around my neck and jump off the chair lift as I thought to myself, "I slept in Baltimore/Washington International Airport overnight for this $*#%???" I was ready to quit in the first hour but discovered "The Woods" of Bretton and found myself in the depths of fresh pow nestled among the trees of New Hampshire. The wooded runs were epic! I was going insade with giddiness to be playing in the pow and running through the trees... Simply amazing!!! Came up to Bretton Woods on a mid-March weekend. The winter this year blew, so half the trails were closed. Still from what we had available, the variety was good. I won't fault them on our winter. I still had a great time. I had a new pair of skis and needed the bindings mounted. I was able to have them done quickly in the repair shop for $30. I liked the variety of trails. A lot of very wide open terrain and the ones that stretched around the sides were scenic, within the trees. If you are into blues and greens, you will like it here. My husband does blacks but wasn't too impressed with what was left open. The mountain wasn't as high as we thought. They are very wide with a 1500 vertical. That is fine with me, though if you want more ski time, nearby Cannon has less acreage but a 2180 vertical. The food in the restaurant was really tasty and not too pricey for a ski lodge. Everyone we came across was very nice all over the mountain. There is a lot of outdoor sitting space to eat and hang out while watching others come down. The scenery is beautiful. You are surrounded by snow capped mountains in all directions. I hope to go back next year and catch them with all the trails open. read more

What a wonderful experience... with just some minor deficiencies. The positives: 1) superb facilities... comparatively spacious... obvious design superiority... lots of convenient power outlets. 2) top of the mountain Candy Shop! 3) well thought out traffic flow on foot and with cars. 4) wide slopes and excellent lift equipment So what were the deficiencies observed? 1). Staff and the lift operators were business oriented... less friendly. Only ONE lift operator waved. 2). Food prices on property were about 30-40% higher then comparable ski resorts. 3). The men's restroom had a nasty stench that was not addressed throughout the day? Do they have anyone servicing it? Checking with any concern for an obvious deficiency? So overall... I really liked the facilities but it fell short in ways which could be corrected if the kept their eye on ball. read more

Bretton Woods is a nice resort with excellent views. There isn't a lot of expert terrain, but it's great for intermediate and beginner skiers. They seem to have plenty of other activities too, such as a zip line and mini-snowmobiles for the kids. (jealous) We went on the Sunday of President's Weekend and the lift lines were small. On average, only a couple of minutes. As you might expect, the hi-speed quads at the bottom had the longest lines, but those weren't bad either - maybe 10 min or so. We were worried about wind, but as they state on the website they have only closed 10 days out of 5000 (and counting) due to wind. It was cold though! Dress warm. read more

Out of all the places i have snowboarded this is by far my favorite place for a couple reasons. Trails are amazing, well maintained, and if you can hit a powder day is like riding on clouds. Prices are pretty good, this place wasn't cheap but they had a deal running when i was up for the day. Well worth what i split with a buddy. Bought my favorite snowboarding hoodie here, got an employee discount for taking my shirt off for the girl working behind the counter, I'm no brad pit, but I'll take it off to save some serious cash. Bretton Woods is a FUN mountain!!! We skied for two days straight and had a great time overall. On day 1: the conditions were decent. It was on a Friday with no crowds and no lines. The weather was chilly, somewhat windy and snowed the entire day. On Day 2: the conditions were undesirable. High winds and snow made it almost impossible to see. The crowds were heavier, therefore the lines for the lift were longer. The lodge was jammed packed all day long, so getting something to eat was lengthy. However, overall, the mountain had a great variety of trails to chose from, both on and off piste. The staff was very pleasant and assisted us in everything we needed. It is a bit pricier than other resorts, but you get great service and a good mountain to ski on. Last but not least, the atmosphere was outstanding. If you go, check it out on a weekday, sit back and relax, and you'll see what I'm talking about;) read more

My son who is 4 had a lesson with the ski school and they left him unattended at the top of the hill along with one other kid for at least 20 minutes. This was extremely disappointing as all 3 of his instructors were at the bottom of the hill. Instead of trying to get him down, one of the instructors, Sarah, decided to argue with my wife and I. i don't ski. We'll start with that. My room mate convinced me to go skiiing for a day at Bretton Woods... he's 62 years old, and a master quadruple black diamond skiier... It's important to start with the outfit. I had never gone skiing, therefore i had no idea what was "in..." My room mate gave me a grey and hot pink onesie... with matching hot pink gloves. It fits me perfectly, my ass looks awesome, and i'm ready to go... little do i know... So we get to Bretton Woods... and start walking, with his skiis up to the lodge... and i zip my onesie up to my neck... (I'm starting to get some looks)... but he swears he wears that onesie every year... so it must be okay.... I get into the rental line, and i start to look around, and i start to realize... NO ONE is wearing a onesie. Snow pants and ski jackets... that's what everyone is wearing... all in blues and browns and blacks... absoluty NO hot pink... Not only this, but EVERYONE is looking at me and talking amongst their groups about my outfit... a little too loud... i mean after all it IS a hot pink onesie... I freak out a little bit... I finallly get over my phobia... and I go a few runs on the baby slopes with my tiny beginner skiis... and my room mate convinces me to go a run on an "easy" trail... so I do it... I fail at first, and I nail it the second time... We go again, and our fellow lift riders (teenage snowboarders) shove us to the right as we get off the lift, and we end up on an advanced trail... my second time off the bunny slopes. I fell. So many times. Over and over. Skiis over my head. Pulling a million muscles. I swore. I was pissed off. But i kept putting those damn skiis back on. And i kept going. And i made it all the way down. Finally we go home, and I'm hurting for four days in a row... and a couple months later he shows me some pictures of his ski trip to Utah back in 1980.... guess what he was wearing in those pictures??? I took a learn to ski class yesterday. I paid $101 which also included rentals ($15 extra for helmet), and all day access to the bunny slope. I was kind of annoyed I had to pay extra for a helmet since the employees working the rental counter seemed to be giving them away to anyone who asked without checking to see who paid. My class was an hour and a half. There were 6 other people in the class ranging in age from 16 to 40ish. I had Ed for an instructor and I found him to be horrible, wound up learning more from my fellow beginner classmates than him since he was unable to provide useful feedback. I thought putting us in a chairlift in the first hour of class before we had a chance to get some good practice was inappropriate as well. I wound up having a hard fall at the top of the lift and the employee up at the top of the lift seemed pretty annoyed with me for falling. It was nice that Ed invite my entire class to return for the 1 PM class, but I honestly had enough of him. If I wasn't traveling with friends who took time to help teach me more thoroughly in the afternoon, I probably wouldn't be interested in ever trying skiing again. Besides my experience with the lesson, the lodge itself was very nice and clean. My friends and I enjoyed yummy nachos for lunch and i had an adult hot chocolate that really helped calm my nerves. We took advantage of the Free Scenic Chair Lift - that's so great. We were welcomed by the hostess who gave us our tickets - she gave us trail maps and made recommendations without being pushy. Love it! We enjoyed the ride, the view - all staff were friendly. The trail was great- not too long, some steep parts but not dangerous. At the end, we could only see fog, but we had a snack and played catch and by then the view was clear. We stopped in at the restaurant before heading down. We weren't hungry but decided to split a brew. We were greeted upon walking in. And the bartender was great to let us taste a couple to help us choose - Tuckerman's Brown was yummy! Thanks Lat 44 and thanks Bretton Woods - you also brought us to a place we had not yet explored... BEAUTIFUL PLACE - even when it rains. We found some nice stops - see the flumes, see some falls (Ripley Falls was awesome), and the train went by and friendly people waved to us :) We didn't do anything else at Bretton Woods because we have done some of these activities before and were looking to do new things this trip, but there's lots of great stuff to do here for everyone and the prices are reasonable. read more

Any ski resort which allows free access to a Quad which access a couple of trails for beginning skiers gets an A+ in my book. There are lots of ski mountains in the area, but Bretton is definitely my favorite. We have come back here year after year and have never had a bad experience. read more

Bretton Woods is famous for its cross-country ski trails, but it's also rather underrated when it comes to downhill skiing. The downhill area won't excite too many experts, but it is a great place to go with a family or beginner or intermediate skiers, or simply want to have a mellow day on the slopes and enjoy some of the greatest views in New Hampshire. The downhill ski area is surprisingly big, with some very long trails, so there is quite a variety of trails here. And it is certainly more family-friendly and laid back than some of the more popular ski areas in New England. Definitely a place worth checking out, unless you are looking for extreme challenges in the slopes. read more

They have bumps and dips which are fun and become more fun as I got better. Well, it's been three years since I was here on my second snowboard sesh of my life. This past weekend we scored pre season lift tickets for 20.00 and found bliss. There were limited runs but what trails were open were in great shape. Stellar views and a really chill vibe. The lifts were swift with detachable quads. No lines no stress. Tissues in the lodge, plenty of shelves for gear and bags. The food hall was pretty limited but we brought a lot of our own snacks so it was not a huge issue. The blues are super easy as are the greens. No blacks open today due to pre season conditions. read more

Perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers. They have some wide and fairly gentle slopes there, as well as a decent number of tougher trails, including some glades. The children's program (starting at age 4) is really good, particularly once the kids get past the beginning stages. I'm not sure where the best place to leave this review is (there seems to be some confusion between Bretton Woods / Mount Washington Resort / Omni Hotels).. So let me start by saying that this is for the Nordic Ski Experience at Bretton Woods. I tried snowboarding once when I was in high school. That's about as far as my winter weather outdoor activities go (if you don't count snowball fights). After years of avoiding new winter sports (primarily because hey, it's expensive, and I've never been entirely confident of my ability to stand upright on any sort of planks in the snow) I was outfitted with some cross country skis that fit, and invited on a weekend getaway to the White Mountains. We showed up with a group of 10 people and, while there was a bit of a backup at the ticket counter, the staff was pleasant and we all got day passes ($21) complete with tickets to a special chocolate tour - $10 extra - that was happening that day. For someone who had never ever skied before, I had a really great time. The trails were groomed nicely, with grooves that helped the less advanced skiers move along a little more easily. We were all supplied with trail maps, that allowed the pros to venture off on some of the more adventurous trails while I made my way along at the tail end of things. Tails were well marked, the weather was awesome, and despite wiping out pretty often, I enjoyed nearly 4 hours of skiing. The only downside was the chocolate tour, which consisted of two hot chocolate stands (one of which had no clean cups, and neither of which was manned i.e. anyone who hadn't paid the $10 fee could grab some) and one other location that offered 1 not so tasty truffle per person - in flavors that tasted like banana caramel or mint with a touch of cayenne. In all fairness, we did get offered truffles in the lodge at the start of our trip (after waiting 15-20 minutes to be handed the platter that was sitting right in front of the single person that was working behind the counter). The chocolate tour had been recommended by friends who had attended it previously and said it definitely didn't live up to earlier years. We expressed our disappointment at the end of the day and we were all pleasantly surprised by the responsiveness (and friendly attitude!) of the staff who promptly refunded the added expense. We learned that the tour was being run by someone new this year, and they encouraged us to share our feedback. While I would have walked away happy after a successful first day of skiing, the positive attitude from the staff really made me want to return. Cross country beginners, go here! Let's just get it out there, Bretton Woods is the home of bad boy skier Bode Miller. Not excited yet? It's also the largest ski area in New Hampshire with exceptional snow making capabilities (so very important for those frisky New England winters) with easily some of the most naturally beautiful surroundings and views of Mt. Washington. The chairlifts are speedy with variations of terrain for all levels of skiers and riders, and at 2 and a half hours from Boston, a day trip is completely possible. Base lodging facilities are easily accessible via the shuttle service and the apres ski while not the most exciting, is enough to keep the evening interesting. read more
