This is a fun mountain, it's not particularly high or steep but has lots of fun runs, and is always less crowded in neighboring mountains like wildcat and Attitash

Black is a lot of fun for traditional, no frills skiing. It's a mountain with New England character and I'm glad that it still operates. But it's not for everyone. If you are a true beginner, or a person who wants amenities and/or well groomed, more predictable conditions, then Black Mountain isn't for you. If you are a true beginner, then your options are the tiny rope tow, or the platter pull. The platter pull offers 2-3 nice beginner runs, but they aren't super long. Snowboarders who are just starting our will find riding the platter a challenge. Each beginner run ends with a small pitch that true beginners might find a little intimidating. For better true beginner green options, I would suggest Bretton Woods or Cranmore. Otherwise, Black mountain offers nice intermediate terrain over a modest vertical. We skied over MLK weekend and not only was it not crowded, we were often the only people on the slopes. Granted, it wasn't a powder day, but we enjoyed a nice, quiet weekend skiing while the other resorts and attractions in Conway were socked with people. Black Mountain offers a pretty good value, too. The lifts are old, and the rental equipment is truly ancient (one of us was given rear entry boots!), but a full price weekend ticket was $55, and ticket and rental package was $70. By comparison, Cranmore (which is pretty similar in size) tickets are $72 and a rental package brings the total to $112. On the other hand, Cranmore offers a detachable quad, more updated equipment, and more grooming and snowmaking. So it just depends on your priorities. Black Mountain has a shorter season, too; the slopes more or less face south. The base lodge is pretty small and modest, but has what you need. They even have a full service pub and decent food options there. When we visited, though, the kitchen was very backed up and service took over an hour. I might suggest buying the food from the cafeteria and getting only your drinks at the pub. Overall, I had a great time at this mountain. It really feels like not much has changed at this place in 20 to 30 years - the lifts, equipment, base lodge, or snowmaking. It's fun to go to low-key mountain and get in some casual skiing away from the crowds. On a sunny holiday weekend, check out Black Mountain and hope that they stay in business and keep that New England charm alive.

Great time for family fun or some good skiing for adults. If you come after 2pm and are planning to ski the next day then buy your tickets that day and ski the afternoon for free!

If you like thinner and more windy trails, this is the place to go. It's definitely retro and that's what's so great about it. $17 Wednesday afternoon deal worked out great for us. Trails were fun to board and were interesting instead of the wide boring groomers you get at most bigger areas. It's a hidden gem for sure. All the employees we encountered were very friendly. We'll be back!

Great for pow days!

We were there on the last day of the extended season, so there was only one lift open but there still wasn't much of a wait.

We stopped by the next morning to schedule our ride for later in the day - no one was at the office. We came back a little later in the morning to be greeted by a rude woman that seemed like she just really didn't want to deal with us. We scheduled our ride for 2 hours later and asked her if she could recommend a good place close by and her response was there are things just down the street in downtown. When we got back the horses weren't ready for us yet and they didn't acknowledge us. This was my first time riding and they didn't tell me anything at first. They just had me get on and wait. I was nervous just about getting on. The trail is really boring with not much to see. You go up the mountain and then back down ... it was pretty rough on the way up and down on the trails so you couldn't even enjoy it. And going up the mountain that was steep at times for a first time person they didn't really give me much instruction. It came to a point where she had to tie my horse to hers and made it well known she wasn't happy about this. This should've been a great experience seeing as it was just my fiance and me but it was terrible. For $100 for the two of us I expected more.

This is one of our favorite spots, as it is such a relaxing and welcoming place. Our technicians were Meaghan and Heather, who both did a wonderful job. They made sure we were comfortable and enjoying our services. We appreciated being able to use the steam room and shower following the services, with their lovely shampure products. We felt so rejuvenated upon leaving here. In past visits, we were able to get more services and at longer durations. Unfortunately, that has changed. This wasn't communicated and there was an issue with scheduling our services. When we received the initial confirmation, everything looked fine (services and durations) aside from it stating "body polish" instead of "body scrub". I was assured that it would be a scrub, regardless of what the confirmation said. Unfortunately, the day before our services the confirmation email had different durations of services. When I called to inquire, I hadn't received a call back, however it was addressed immediately upon our arrival. They noted that our call was received and said they figured they would wait until they saw us. I wish it had been addressed ahead of time, as we had to make a quick decision on the spot regarding our services. I would have preferred time to think it over. Also, the polish was in fact a polish and not a scrub, which was not what was wanted nor expected. Overall, we had a great time and would go back! This has become a staple for our white mountain trips. The services are always great, the staff is always friendly, and we always leave feeling refreshed! The only downside was the lack of communication/scheduling error, which has never been a problem in our countless other visits here.

Unfortunately, our actual stay was very disappointing due to the management. We booked one of the barn rooms, and I would strongly advise against ever booking in that section. While most of the staff were friendly and helpful, the General Manager, Abe, was rude and unprofessional. On our first night, we received a noise complaint. We were up late due to jet lag, but were not being excessively loud. After a neighbor banged on the wall, I quickly received a text from Abe asking us to keep the volume down. Thinking it was an automated system, we immediately complied and kept everything quiet for the rest of the night. The next morning, around 8am, Abe came banging on our door as aggressively as possible. His exact first words were, "I'm asking you to check out today." He said we had been making noise "all night" and "banging on walls." Neither of those things were true. Once he finally introduced himself as the GM, I calmly explained that we lowered our volume as soon as we received the text and that we never banged on any walls. Instead of listening, he dismissed our explanation and began lecturing me in a disrespectful and hostile manner. To try to evict paying guests early in the morning, on the day of a wedding, without hearing both sides of the situation, is completely unacceptable. This experience left a very sour impression of the property. The surroundings are beautiful, and the other staff members were pleasant, but the GM's behavior ruined what should have been a positive stay. I cannot recommend staying here, especially when there are likely other inns in the area with far better management and respect for their guests.

We had a king room...much more than we needed but made the two night stay very comfortable. It was great to slowly wake up to the sounds of the mountain being prepped and coming alive. We stayed Monday/Tuesday...so pub was not open. We will return to experience that. For a cozy couple getaway to ski Black...I can't recommend this place enough. Oh...it is right in front of the mountain...so you can actually walk through the parking lot to get to the lodge...maybe 30 seconds...a minute if you walk slowly. Place also has ski ski storage for boots and skis.

Our toddler slept well because he had his own bedroom (we brought our pack n play for him to sleep in) and us parents could chill by the cozy gas fireplace with a glass of wine once he went to bed. We were only a few miles from Storyland so we went first thing when they opened, stayed a couple hours, came back for our son's nap and we were able to hit the park again until closing. While the restaurant wasn't open during our stay, there were plenty of nearby restaurants to choose from. The pool was nice (no one else was in it) and though it was cold, our toddler still had fun. Overall excellent trip, comfortable beds, super clean cabin, very very happy. We will be back!!
