Beautiful and remote campground in the White Mountains of NH. It's on the NH/ME border, off of 113…read more(north of Fryeburg and Stow). The campground can be reached by turning off of 113 at the Basin campground sign and heading down a dirt road past the cold river campground. Sites are mostly first come, first served but I believe that some of them can be reserved ahead of time. They run 20$ a site, plus 5$ extra for an additional car. They (the forest service) only allow 2 cars per site and they will ask you to move your car to the Basin pond parking lot outside of the campground or to purchase an additional site if you have more than 2 vehicles. It's not really the campground hosts who are the ones making these rules, but they do have to enforce them to avoid any trouble with the rangers. The sites are huge and have a picnic table and fire ring with grates to cook on. It was a very scenic campground and is super close to hiking, fishing and swimming at the Basin pond, and other outdoor activities. It was probably one of the prettiest campgrounds that I've stayed at. Highly recommended if you are looking for a place to stay in the area.

Well stocked campstore, lots of games and things for kids to do outdoors or borrow a game from the desk for your campsite, plenty of safe space for kids to ride bikes and explore. Nice shower house. I honestly can't say enough good things. We loved this place.....did I mention they have a beautiful camping trailer for rent AND a glamping tent....ya amazing.

Both visits, I camped out in a tent the night before hiking in Grafton Notch - $28 for a tent site pretty close to the trailhead? Not bad! The $28 includes free mini golf, use of their pool, and a rustic camping experience. Wins: - The owners are super friendly. Very genuine people. They have helped me last-minute book both times and are patient and great. - They recently added a little dining area to their general store, which is great! When I camped here a few weeks ago, I ordered their mozzarella sticks, a beer, and a pizza (what can I say, I was carbo-loading) and it was super affordable. - Their store has beer. Lots of it. And donuts. So, essentially all you need before hiking a four thousander. - Their pool is amazing. Though I was SO SAD to be informed that we arrived literally the day it closed for the season. I wish that had been communicated better. - Fire pits - they give guests the freedom to have fun and safe fires - love this. - Flushing toilets/running water to brush teeth/wash hands. This is a luxury for us camping regulars! - Quiet, peaceful, beautiful Maine. Ehs: - The campsites are pretty close together - there's very little privacy in terms of trees separating the sites. We were lucky to go near the end of the season and be essentially alone and isolated in our spot. - I wish the general store was open just a teeny bit later! This lazya** needs her water bottles and beer after 8pm usually, especially after driving out to the site all evening. Their breakfast sandwiches are affordable and a delicious meal for before a hike - be sure to grab one. This is a real Maine experience. It's so fun to watch the sun set over the mountain you're going to be summiting the next day, and Stony Brook gives you that view!

We're already making plans for next year to return. The lake is pristine and secluded, there are canoes available and remote sites on the lake where you can canoe or kayak out yourself or get dropped off. True wilderness camping in the great north of NH. I do want to mention that we camped with a 18 ft. rPod camper trailer and had no issues at all with access to a good choice of beautiful well kept sites. I read a few negative comments that make no sense to me. Everybody is different I guess. One of the best camping experiences we've ever had.

Our site had a slight downhill angle, but it was not enough to cause any trouble. All utilities were available and worked as expected. The real standout was the bathhouse and shower area--without question, the cleanest facilities we had seen in two weeks of staying at campgrounds. There is also a very nice walking path that winds down along the river, which made the stay even better. It is a peaceful place, well kept, and easy to navigate. We would definitely stay at Timberland again.

We got together here with most of our grown kids and their families this year. There are sites ranging from basic tent sites up to spaces for very large RVs, as well as cabins that go from "4 walls" rustic to a few that are almost a hotel room with a full bathroom, shower, air conditioning, and kitchenette. There is a playground for the young kids, access to a nice field in the back, kayaking, picnic and fishing areas along the river. There's railroad tracks that run through the back of the campground and a train often goes through at night. It's close and very loud and impressive, and while it may bother some people we looked forward to it coming through. The cabins we visited were very clean and well maintained as were all the bathrooms and the showers. The little campground store seemed to have everything you are likely to forget when you leave home. The real highlight of this place is the owners, who are some of the nicest people you can come across. They are pleasant and welcoming and went to great lengths to make our visits enjoyable. If you're looking for a deep wilderness-like experience this is probably not the place for you, but it doesn't pretend to be that. It's a really nice family friendly spot to spend some time, with plenty of stuff to keep the kids entertained.

This campground is probably great for a self-contained camper that only needs hookups. People are…read morefriendly. Restooms are clean. Most sites are large, flat, and surrounded by trees. Restroom facilities are sparce. There are two restroom facilities and one of them has two shower stalls per gender for the entire campground. Tent sites are far from all facilities. I wonder why so many campgrounds, including this one, puts Class A, long-term campsites near the restrooms and leaves the rest of us, who need restrooms, to struggle with the long walk.

We found White Birches, it was still open to our surprise. The spot we were at was pretty close to the other RV's but we weren't complaining. The best thing about this place was the "Shelburne Basin Trail" that is part of the camp ground. We got up early and went and hiked it. So beautiful!!!! All the fall leaves and the river were breathtaking! I definitely recommend this campground. The hook up were great and we were able to fill our propane tank as well.
