Disclaimer family friends of ours bought this property and built this campground from scratch. Having said that I will remain fair in my review as always. First the owner/operators have much experience in this type of hospitality as well as a love for people and the outdoors. They are friendly and more than hospitable. They are in the beginning phase of what they envision to be the go to Campground in the Andover area. They already have plans to establish an equine area for horse owners to be able to bring and ride your horse/s through the miles of trails easily accessible from campground. This also goes for ATV owners. Having said that they are already catering to these populations. They have an office, pump station and bath house completed. They have 6 camper sites with water and electric hook ups and plans to add electric hook ups to other established sites sites next year. The property runs along the Ellis River with multiple areas where you can get to the river as well as a beach area to sit and watch your kids in very slow moving and not to deep area of river. The river is pristine with plentiful healthy water life. Fishing is allowed with Maine license. There are huge open spaces, and wooded areas. Countless bird species and lots of wildflowers that attract lots of butterflies. In addition to all of this it has beautiful Mountain View's and total peace and serenity. We just spent the weekend in their only Tentrr site. For those you unfamiliar this is a "glamping" site of sorts. It's a large canvas tent on a pressure treated platform. There is a queen size bunk bed, indoor storage as well as a small wood burning heater in the tent for chilly nights. Also there is a picnic table with backed benches as well as a cabinet with food prep surface. There is a wood burning fire pit as well. They also have lovely amenities like Adirondack chairs, rocking chairs, tiki torches and a water jug. Also available and not used by us is a sun shower, outdoor potty, kayak, and another tent you can put up on site. They also left us a bundle of wood to get started. All of this for $100 a night and during a special we received a free night after booking two. So if all of this isn't enough to entice you I don't know what would. You need your bedding, clothes, toiletries and food. THAT'S IT! For our visit we spent Labor Day weekend. Corie greeted warmly and showed us to our site, complete with fresh cut flowers and a few kitchen essentials. We were located just a couple minutes walk to river bed and beach area. We swam with our reluctant dogs and cooled off and refreshed in the crystal clear water. We are told you can be dropped off up the street at an entrance point and basically take a lazy tube ride right down to the beach. The bathhouse is immaculate with two showers and two stalls each for men and woman. The only issue I had with showers was mediocre water pressure and if you pick a popular time to shower the hot water may or may not be hot. This was one time out of 3 showers we took. There aren't any laundry facilities on site. At least not at this point. The office has a few necessities for sale as well as wood. If you forgot or run out of something there is a very inclusive mini mart and a restaurant just a few minutes drive down the road. As I mentioned the entire campground is in its first phases so some things are on the list to implement such as shelving and benches in shower area. We managed successfully without them but noticed the difference in not having them. Having a tent site we did not use the dumping station but several large RVs left Monday morning without incident. We did experience some insect issues outside at our site. As you will see in pictures we were in an open field so bugs are to be expected. However tiki torches and citronella candles as well as our fire helped to keep them in check for the most part. Obviously camping always has the insect component and this one isn't an exception so keep in mind the above and get some bug spray. Other than the typical bugs and occasionally fighting for hot water there isn't anything negative I can say. And those little issues are really reaching. So please check them out and get your reservation and unplug and recharge yourself and your family in this beautiful spot.
PS we had cell service the entire ride and at campground.
Hope you all get out there and enjoy yourselves. :) read more
