First referred by my Primary Care in Fairfax, I continue being a patient even though travelling from Ashburn to Fairfax isn't easy. However the staff is great and Dr Patel in particular makes himself very available to patients either in-person or via e-mail. I find him very attentive to my concerns and as an overseas traveler, he ensures I have what I need in my trips. He also ensures follow-up as necessary with labs and takes the time to explain the findings. He and his staff are prompt regarding prescriptions and in the past were also very helpful getting insurance approvals for certain medications. A long drive but worth the attention patients receive.

Tried to make an appointment recently and was treated by the staff as if I were belligerent because I asked if there were appointments available earlier than 45 days in advance and if I could get a message to the doctor beforehand. I ended up missing having to miss the appointment due to a stomach bug, called with no answer, nowhere to leave a message, and no email address listed for the office, and am now being told it was my fault they didn't receive notice and that I'll be billed for the appointment. Commonwealth Urology is an insurance mill not a care facility. Uncaring, rude, robotic staff and doctors churn through 4-5 patients an hour with little care other than how much they can bill them.

Nurse/admin staff is as usual. His office in the building was a little hard to get to. The details: Dr Basile's nonchalant and calming demeanor exemplify the ease at which he executes his work-solidifying his vast experience and how routine this work is for him. During the procedure we chatted about what was being done, small social banter to ease my mind, and in 30 minutes flat I was out and taking the weekend off. First visit for a consult, was a simple walk-through of my decision, risks, and what encompassed the procedure. Nurse/admin staff was attentive and straightforward. I was lost in the beginning, trying to find his office; it's in the basement down a narrow hallway. Second visit for the procedure, the office was busier and my appointment started 20 minutes later than planned. Nonetheless, schedule aside, the procedure was executed as planned and I just had to recover over the weekend. I will definitely go to Dr. Basile in the future for any other urology related inquiries or concerns.

Unfortunately my first (and last) experience with Fair Oaks Urology was a poor one…read more I scheduled an appointment by phone and received a confirmation email. The email listed the time of the appointment as 11:15am. I arrived SLIGHTLY late at 11:20am. The receptionist immediately told me that I was supposed to be there at 11am, despite the fact that the confirmation email only stated the appointment time of 11:15. The receptionist got an attitude when I pointed out that the confirmation email only stated the appointment time and mentioned nothing about arriving early. She then said they would "try to fit me in" when possible on that day. The confirmation email also included a garbled version of my first name, with no last name included. When I tried to pre-register for the appointment online (to provide the necessary information about me), the system rejected the garbled first name (no last name was listed) and I was unable to pre-register. Had I been able to pre-register, I might have found the information about arriving 15 minutes early. The information that I provided at the time I scheduled the appointment was very sloppily entered into their database. After the initial poor experience with Fair Oaks Urology, I decided to cancel my appointment and leave the business. They are clearly disorganized and sloppy in preparing data for medical visits. I can't speak about the competency of the doctors here, but if the appointment process is any guide, this is not a medical practice that I would ever want to use.

I'm told that National Harbor is still in the midst of setting up and that is why I needed to come here. What is interesting about this location is that it is in a well established office/medical building that kind of makes you feel like you are in an actual hospital. I showed up and did my check in and had to wait a bit. To note: I stopped here during the Halloween season and they were directed for such. It wasn't very calming to my anxiety to see decorations stating the area I was about to go into for my follow up said it was 'contaminated' and having zombie arms reaching out to you. With my anxiety in high gear I am called back and walked through the maze to the room where I will be seen. Vitals taken, and instructions given to me quickly. I knew I was there to have a stint removed and to be given the instruction quickly, having never done this before, baffled me. I stood there stunned and had to ask for the instructions again. Given the instructions again I proceed to get ready and positioned for the tech to come back in. Tech comes in, and I have to hand it to her, she is good at distraction. Not sure how many of you out there have ever had anything done in the undercarriage area of your body, but everything they do in that area catches you by surprise. As I am, uh, being prepped, the tech is talking and explaining to me that I am going to be numbed. Her distraction technique was simple, keep talking as if you are gong to do it and then do it a few seconds later. I was in mid-answer when, wham-bam, inserted and numbed. I don't think I even finished my answer. Laying there, naked from the waste down (covered, mind you), feelin more vulnerable than I have ever been in my life. Being inserted into and numbed, in walks the doctor. With my head swimming, the doctor walks me through what is about to happen next. Anxiously I nod my head yes after he finishes and asks if I understand allowing for him to proceed. Continually coaching me to breathe through it all. Mind you, there is a monitor in the room that allows for the doctor to see where he is inside you and also allows for you to watch as well. Now, to have another object inserted into an exit hole while being able to watch it like it's a Netflix documentary is a surreal experience. When it reaches the spot where this thing has been sitting inside you for about a month at that point and you see a claw expand from the end, grab a hold the this thing, and the doctor tells you to take a deep breath...WOW! I never felt anything like that in my life, even with the undercarriage being numbed. The doctor was pleased with the stint coming out without any problems. Pleased with the procedure he tells me I won't need antibiotics, it may feel funny to me for a bit in the undercarriage area, and that I should be back to normal in about a day or two. All after declaring, "It's a boy" after the extraction. The one thing I didn't care much for here was the customer service from the front desk. It was like I was intruding to those member of the staff. I filled out my paperwork, paid my copay, and sat and waited to go back. Then, weeks later I get a bill in the mail for my copay, which I clearly paid while there. I have received several statements now at home stating I have not paid. When I go onto the website and sign into their portal, type in the statement number, I am told I have no balance due. I would gladly pay the $10, but I'm not sending it via the mail when your website clearly has registered I already paid in office. I can't wait for them to attempt to send me to collections for that $10 I already paid in person.

Also recently I was scared, as there was a concern of a growth in the gear. The nuts of a nut are okay, but having lost loved ones to cancer, Dr Al Jubari showed a lot of compassion. I really appreciated his kindness, and even before I found the negative results on the CT scan, he was able to make me able to sleep well. Fellow gents please get checked out. My wife had a serious bacterial infection previously and pain (not bladder pain or pain similar to UTI which she is familiar with - but pain around her private parts - a deep "different" type of pain). Dr. AJ was busy, clearly, but he listened and he and his nurse checked her out. They took a urine sample. He prescribed Uribel. Another general doctor said that Uribel has serious side effects and it does not appear, from the symptoms described, she has an UTI - that doctor believed Uribel was unnecessary. I sent an email to their office and explained: - We did a Sonogram, - Another doctor recommended a urinalysis and urine test for culture and sensitivity and we have not done these yet. - An infectious disease specialist said the bacterial medicine will not interfere with the results. - We still have the pain described within our visit. - Dr. Al-Jaburi mentioned a particular test that could be done at surgical center. Can we set this up as we prefer having a definitive test over taking medicine to alleviate pain? They responded, "take the medicine first. Don't rush the procedure. Schedule another visit if you want". We did NOT take the medicine. Another urologist said Uribel is a powerful medicine and said it did not appear to be a suitable choice without knowing more. The same urologist performed a test and then stretched her uretha and alleviated the pain that may have been caused by the bacterial infection. I realize judgement was applied and this can be imperfect. Perhaps Uribel was a good choice but it appears probably not. Regardless, we felt that it was a hurried decision to prescribe that without knowing more.
