First referred by my Primary Care in Fairfax, I continue being a patient even though travelling from Ashburn to Fairfax isn't easy. However the staff is great and Dr Patel in particular makes himself very available to patients either in-person or via e-mail. I find him very attentive to my concerns and as an overseas traveler, he ensures I have what I need in my trips. He also ensures follow-up as necessary with labs and takes the time to explain the findings. He and his staff are prompt regarding prescriptions and in the past were also very helpful getting insurance approvals for certain medications. A long drive but worth the attention patients receive.

He has not read the MY CHART which is how INOVA communicates after he did a surgery. So as far as I am concerned and I am retired fron medicine: many of the 'support staff" that means nurses do not comprehend what is in the charts.. and even the doctors seem to not be able to make a decision, including Dr Holt w/ regard to long term patient care. I am not sure why. Dr Hold needs to either cut back on this patient load at Fairfax INOVA; or take a vacation and make some decisions about how one person cannot cope w/ his patient load. His staff (nurse Stephanie) was excellent but the FFX INOVA hospital itself was a total mess the day of the surgery. I like him very much, this is a very difficult time to be in medicine.

The details: Dr Basile's nonchalant and calming demeanor exemplify the ease at which he executes his work-solidifying his vast experience and how routine this work is for him. During the procedure we chatted about what was being done, small social banter to ease my mind, and in 30 minutes flat I was out and taking the weekend off. First visit for a consult, was a simple walk-through of my decision, risks, and what encompassed the procedure. Nurse/admin staff was attentive and straightforward. I was lost in the beginning, trying to find his office; it's in the basement down a narrow hallway. Second visit for the procedure, the office was busier and my appointment started 20 minutes later than planned. Nonetheless, schedule aside, the procedure was executed as planned and I just had to recover over the weekend. I will definitely go to Dr. Basile in the future for any other urology related inquiries or concerns.

There was ONE person working at the front desk who was having great difficulty managing processing anyone. For every person she called to the desk, the process took at least eight minutes. Imagine that times the 15 people in the waiting room. Compound that with the fact that she completely overlooked my name on the sign in sheet. She called the person who came in after me and 'processed' that person forever as well. I waited for more than 40 minutes, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, then she called another person who came in after me. It was then that I went to the desk and stated the above. I asked for a business card so I could call the office manager and tell her of my experience. The receptionist said she could get the office manager as needed. I encouraged her to do so. When the office manager came out I had her cancel my appointment. She did so...without even acknowledging the problem or apologizing for the incompetence of her front desk staff member. Unbelievable. That's 40 minutes of my time I can never get back. I shared the experience with my doctor immediately (she is in the same office building). She is no longer going to refer people to that facility, thankfully. My doctor said it sounds like they are overbooked. I don't know. They offered to help me keep my appointment. I told them, no thank you. If their front desk staff cannot handle processing people in the waiting room....

I. Love. These people…read more I have kidney stones. I am in pain. I call them for an appointment - two days later I'm in. Score! My doctor, Dr. Chung, says I need surgery to remove them. Gets me scheduled for surgery in less than 48 hours. Score! All the pre-registration paperwork is online. Office is extremely efficient. Staff is courteous. Dr. Chung and his surgical resident have a terrific sense of humor (they got a big laugh out of my surgical artwork showing where to work and where not to touch). I have a follow-up appointment with the Physician Assistant tomorrow, who is well versed in kidney stones. As Borat says 'I like very much'. As a medical professional, and as a consumer, I give these people a serious high five.

These guys are covered, and did the same job, sans steak but perfectly fine. Both the initial consult and the actual procedure were easy, Dr. Patel was very friendly and professional, and completely explained everything about the procedure. The procedure was quick, relatively pain-free (As much as you can ask for) and has had no complications.

I've had serious problems with Seema Sharma on every visit. She's been negligent, sloppy and…read moremistake-riddled. I received a radiology order for an MRI, but she made a mess of it. Wrong description of my condition, wrong Billing Code, vague language that would mean it wouldn't be covered by insurance. When she gave it to me, I suggested it was incomplete. She laughed, snidely saying I was wrong. Another time, I mentioned nasal congestion, sinus congestion and difficulty breathing, suggesting aspirin might be the cause. She said this was impossible. She is dead wrong. It is widely known that aspirin can cause these symptoms. It's embarrassing and disturbing that she doesn't know this. Sharma wrote me a paper prescription for Voquezna. I asked her to send it electronically to CVS but she sent the wrong dosage. Getting the dosage wrong is a serious mistake that can kill people. When I saw her for back pain, she gave me cyclobenzaprine, which is contraindicated for patients who have a number of conditions that I have. Sharma never should have prescribed this. A potentially fatal error on her part. I ended up in the ER with severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, tingling in my arms and legs. I'd been fine beforehand. Sharma has very poor social skills and a non-existent bedside manner. During our consultations, she makes no eye contact, rarely speaks, and mumbles in a manner that's difficult to understand. She takes notes on a laptop throughout, instead of listening and responding to the patient. She clearly doesn't take accurate and complete notes, or chooses to ignore them when preparing prescriptions, orders, etc. Communication is one of the most important factors in healthcare. Her lack of adequate communication skills, coupled with her inability to avoid mistakes, makes her completely unsuited for the job. She is an embarrassment to the medical profession and dangerously incompetent. I have only seen Sharma a few times, but she's managed to cause a great deal of damage. She will undoubtedly harm more patients in the future, if her license is not revoked. As a side note, she attended an Ethiopian medical school ranked 751st in world.

I saw the doctor once in April, no labs. I was scheduled again for July and was told my labs would be done then. Well I got a call confirming my appointment and they asked if I had my labs done. I had no idea I was supposed to seek out my own lab work with some green sheet they did not give me. They did not give me a green sheet or any directions. I was told I was given the sheet so they basically called me a liar. Regardless they said they would need to reschedule me. I clearly told them I would find another doctor, cancel my appointment and I would not be going back there. Today I got a bill for my previous appointment, which I already paid and has cleared my account along with a fee for a no show for the appointment I made clear to them I would not be going to. Unfortunately Yelp made me choose a "star." Sorry Yelp.. No stars should be an option for these swindlers. I will be contacting the better business bureau and anyone else who will listen. I am going to another doctor. I hope my next experience is better and this is not indicative of all nephrologists in the area.

While he may be a knowledgeable doctor we did not feel comfortable with him nor did we trust him. I would not put my life in his hands. I don't know where all of the excellent reviews are coming from and would not be surprised if he wasn't writing them himself!
