This practice is currently undergoing a multi-week IT transition, and patients are being told to "call back next week" just to schedule appointments. If you try to call anyway, expect to sit on hold for an hour -- and even then there's no guarantee anyone will answer. Even before the transition, the wait times were incredibly long. Frequently over 30 minutes. Appointment access is extremely limited. Existing patients are running about three weeks out for routine visits, and in-office procedures can be pushed 30 days or more. If an urgent issue comes up, you're more likely to end up in the ER than be accommodated here in any reasonable timeframe. Front desk operations -- particularly in Suite 150 -- have been consistently frustrating. On more than one occasion, appointments couldn't be located, and conversations around insurance felt argumentative rather than helpful. There also seemed to be reluctance to work with Veterans Administration healthcare as a primary coverage source, which only added to the difficulty of coordinating care. Once checked in, patients are frequently kept waiting 30-45 minutes beyond their scheduled appointment time, further compounding the practice's broader access and scheduling challenges. From a care standpoint, visits with multiple providers often felt inconclusive, with symptoms leading to more tests and more follow-ups but little diagnostic clarity or direction. Because of the ongoing access, administrative, and care concerns, I have left this group in order to obtain at least adequate and timely medical care -- something this practice has been unable to provide. Also worth noting: their standard online review responses tend to be scripted, directing patients to contact an office manager while citing privacy policies, rather than addressing broader service concerns publicly -- which doesn't inspire much confidence that systemic issues are being resolved. read more

They did help me with my problems. I called three times and left a message and asked for a call back. On the third call I threatened to fire them and go to a doctor if they didn't call back. They did call, but clearly did not listen to the three messages. They said they'd call today, but failed. The worst customer service I have ever experienced from a doctor's office. Appointment started more than a half hour late. The doctor himself was competent, but not so personable and seemed rushed to end the appointment. Tried to follow up on blood test after the promised 7-10 completion date elapsed, and it has been impossible to reach them. Left voicemail and send message via their website, still no response. Someone finally called me back to schedule an appointment and said they told me they don't accept my insurance when the insurance says they're in network. I've had multiple problems getting prescriptions renewed. It's also next to impossible to get through to schedule an appointment. I even drove down once and scheduled in person because I couldn't get through by phone for two days. The medical care is good when you can actually access it, but access has become an overwhelming problem. I'm gone here for years but I'm fed up and finding another practice. Please note that I've had these problems with 3 different offices of the Urology Group of Virginia. I believe the problem is that LMG isn't staffing enough people to deal with phone calls and prescriptions. Was diagnosed with aggressive, urethral carcinoma and was referred to Dr. Schenk of LMG group. From the initial consultation from Dr. Schenk to the robotic Laparoscopic surgical procedure to remove the tumor was without a doubt, the most experienced and professional medical procedure I have ever received. His knowledge and experience in the field of urology coupled with his delightful personality is surpassed by few. I am extremely pleased with the knowledge of care that I've received. The staff has been cordially helpful and professional, but a little organizational improvement they would be outstanding. read more

Saw Nicholas Lailas twice a year for over 5 years. He never did a physical exam. PSA only. By the time he decided to do an MRI and biopsy, cancer had advanced. He did a radical prostatectomy. The cancer came back two years post surgery. I'm now looking at the possibility I have metastatic prostate cancer. This did not have to happen. Dr. Lailas clearly has more patients than he can serve safely. There were many errors in scheduling and even in prescribing. For example, he (or his staff) continued prescribing finasteride for a couple years after the surgery. I regret choosing him as my urologist and cannot recommend him to others. read more

Rating the office is 1 star and Dr Schenck is 5 stars. My husband's prostate bx was + for cancer and beyond rude scheduler told my husband when called for consult and treatment plan that no appointments available until August. Bx done on 4/27/23. I am an RN 38 years of working at a Medstar Hospital and spoke to the scheduler that it was unacceptable. Dr Schenck called my husband and told him they would call him to schedule a consult to go over the results and treatment. I knew he would not be called and so he called today. Also he was asked a few times his name and date of birth. She told my husband she was reporting me to the Dr. This scheduler is in the wrong job speaking with patients and family. Reviews re: this office have complaints about the staff and high favorable remarks re: Dr Schenck. In 2023 this continues. read more

This practice was one of the best, not sure what's happening now. Extremely difficult to get through the phone lines. Apparently 40 mins on phone with call drops every 10 mins. For every question they put you on hold for 5-10 mins. Quite rude in their conversation as well. I can physically visit office to talk in that time. Most places have managed better. They sent my script to the wrong Pharmacy after repeatedly telling them which one was correct on three separate phone calls, they miss wrote my script now I can't get anything over the weekend, they didn't run any blood work on me, the doctor never spoke to me about what dosage I needed, they have wasted my time, my money, and jeopardized my marriage. All urologists in the area were booked for up to 2 months so I booked with this office for October 19. I called on the 3rd and Sarah was able to get me in that week on the 7th. This was helpful since I was waiting on a specific test to be done prior to being able to schedule surgery. read more

Dr. Jennifer Young is an excellent doctor. In fact I have had numerous procedures and surgeries with her and the team of professionals with the Urology Group. I have had 3 or 4 EWSL (Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy) procedures with Dr. Young and I was extremely pleased with the results. For those that don't know what that is that is a fancy term for the process of blasting kidney stones. I even had surgery and thanks to Dr. Young I am much better off today because of it. I am sure glad that I didn't put that surgery off any longer. I am also pleased with her surgical abilities and the quality of care that I received as her patient. She is a doctor that you can trust. For those that rate The Urology Group low, speak up and tell them how you you feel. Don't wish you had said something and then come here to complain about it. That's not fair. It's your health so speak up! If you don't like something tell them. I certainly do. Doctors are not mind readers. Also, the choice is yours to get a second opinion if you do not like what you are hearing. I never felt pressured into having surgery or procedures by The Urology Group or Dr. Young. However, if you reach that cross road that can be a difficult personal decision to make. But in my case I am glad that I did. Also, the billing process was smooth and seamless, especially on the day of the surgery. They even called me a few days before surgery to tell me exactly how much I would have to pay the morning of the surgery. The staff are so friendly, courteous, and helpful. I would do 100 surgeries with Dr. Young and the Urology Group if I had to. Their staff is excellent. Sometimes you need to be patient for quality care. It is well worth the wait. In fact I just referred a friend to Dr. Young earlier today. If you or a loved one have a urology medical concern don't put it off. Results may vary depending on each person's situation. Poor communications... surgical coordinator is always out of pocket...till the day before surgery I was not sure if I am going for surgery or not because she messed up my schedule with out of network surgery center who calls a day before the surgery to tell that bring 20% copay vs I suppose to pay $25. I have confirmed 2 times with urology group office that dont send me to out network for my surgery n they didn't even know untill last day when I called them. I've been getting care at the Urology Group for the last few months. I was diagnosed with something that likely is an after effect from COVID19. Nevermind that most doctors are still hanging their hats on negative COVID19 results and explaining away your symptoms (high false negatives)... I definitely have been struggling with COVID19. I've been working with Jennifer Mendrysa. She was very helpful in the beginning. But as the weeks have turned into months, and the treatment and care and medicines I've been prescribed have not resolved my condition, they're definitely getting more frustrated and impatient with me. Getting in touch with a nurse practitioner or ANYONE on the phone is a job in it of itself. I called on Thursday and on Friday and finally got someone on the phone Friday afternoon. I told them that the antibiotics they prescribed were out and my condition/pain started up again and needed advice on what to do. The receptionist was unhelpful. The receptionist (while I was on the call with her) told me that Jennifer Mendrysa (my NP) was actually calling her back and told me she would relay my questions and concerns to her. The receptionist got back on the phone with me, and told me, "She said there's nothing more we can do for you. We'll send you a script to go to a physical therapist." Guess what? That script never arrived. And a DOCTOR'S OFFICE'S response is "There's nothing more we can do for you."? Seriously? I'm done with this place. I will seek out a more competent, helpful, and human urology practice that actually cares for their patients. And I just called again this morning asking for all my results/paperwork so I can give them to my new urologist. Only some of it is up on the patient portal. They said they can fax it (LOL really?) or snail mail it (really?) but they can't upload it or email it due to security concerns. And faxing is secure? It's 2020. This is the most disgraceful group of people I've ever met in my life. First they strung me along for several weeks telling me to prepare for a lithotripsy for some kidney stones. They wasted no time in billing me for every office visit way over what is the norm for Urologists in America, but when it came time to do the lithotripsy, they had to "cancel" my surgery appointment, despite numerous requests for their office staff to communicate with my doctor. They refused more than a few times, and now I'm the one who's screwed because their office controls the only lithotripsy machine in Northern Va. Do yourself a favor, and let yourself suffer if anything is bothering you with respect to urology because dealing with these folks, you won't get any help and you'll get stressed out in the process. read more

I advise against using The Urology Group. Days after surgery, my stent came out and stones blocked my kidney function. I was rushed to emergency and placed in Acute Care. I narrowly missed having to go on dialysis. The response from The Urology Group was to pass me on to another Urologist within their group for another surgery- I felt my fear and suffering was inconsequential to them. I finally got my quality of life back with Dr. Kambiz Tajkarimi, he manages his solo private practice, and is only obligated to his patients. No group or organization pressures him for productivity. read more

I had a stint removal procedure. Disclaimer, I took some painkillers ahead of time but the procedure was on time, quick, and virtually painless. Staff was courteous and made me feel at ease right of way. Dr. Young and her nurse are fantastic, I had surgery done by Dr. Young and follow-up care as well. Only complaint is with the schedulers, I think some small changes in the way the schedulers handle things would go a long way. It is very important to call your insurance before scheduling your surgery and pick a surgery facility that is in your network from the list the scheduler gives you. So take the list home, call your insurance and figure out the out-of-pocket details before you schedule your surgery. But otherwise the staff is great and I have had no problems at all. Highly recommend and I am a picky person. read more

The Dr. I worked with was excellent for my procedure and handled everything much better than I expected. The staff at the offices leave a lot of room for improvement. Just about everyone I spoke with over the phone was very rude and would cut me off before I could finish speaking. They couldn't wait to pass off the phone call to the next person. When the next person was not available, they would not guarantee a call-back by any specific time. The NP I met with before the procedure in office was rude as well. She ignored half of what I was asking, answered questions incompletely and did a poor job of explaining the procedures in english. The NP also told me that I needed a specific prescription and that she would call it in as soon as we finished up, to my local pharmacy. I managed to walk over to the pharmacy while in a lot of pain and then found out the call was never made. I returned the next day and found out the pharmacy had not received anything, again. I called back to speak with the office about the script, and they assured me it would be handled. I went back the next day again, no prescription. The NP told me that it was very important to take that medication, yet couldn't be bothered to make a 5 second phone call to get me the medication that was so important to take. If you read the other reviews, this is not the first time they have neglected prescriptions. The same NP told me I would need a follow-up in the office to have another procedure done in-office. I requested to have the procedure done in a surgical center instead of the office after learning about their rude and seemingly uneducated and disrespectful staff. When I was able to get a hold of their scheduling person, she had no knowable of the request, which clearly showed the NP ignored my simple request. Another example of them not wanting to give the patient the time of day. I had to chase down the person responsible for scheduling as I did not receive a call when it was promised or 24 hours later as I let it go for a little. I was informed my file was delivered to the scheduling team late, and the person who was supposed to contact me decided not to, and went home for the day instead. This would be acceptable if it was dealing with purchasing groceries, but when related to medical procedures, how can this even be permitted by an office in northern Virginia. All of this being said, I would look to another practice if you would like to be treated like a human. With the amount of money we and the insurance companies pay to these places, you would think they could treat you with a little respect and act like they actually care about your health. It felt like I was dealing with a car dealership, not a medical office. If I were the Dr's that ran this practice, I would be very embarrassed to learn about how the staff handles patience. At the end of the day this is a business like everything else, and they have done nothing to merit a return visit. I will not be returning to this practice and if my procedure was not needed to be done on an expedited basis, I would not have used them. There is a reason they have a low score on yelp, and I cannot see it improving anytime soon. read more

My GP thinks about my symptoms. By contrast, the specialist at this shop was in a rush to get me out. I found later that a symptom I'd described did in fact have a cause, which I treated. The staff never called or otherwise communicated to me my test results. Finally, three weeks later, I called. The staff took their sweet old time, twice, to call in prescriptions. The proximity of a female staffer to the examination room as I exited, plus the expression on her face, say to me that I gave her a new story to trade on her lunch break. Never again. Several years ago I had used this group (Dr Starks) as they were recommended by my primary care. That went well and life went on. Then, about a year ago, my PC referred me to a different group (not certain why?) and the doctor there was "knife happy", so I ran from there!! I looked back in my records, located Dr Starks info and made an appointment. That went well and I started a program that was interrupted by a surgery that required me to stop all non-surgery drugs. Then I called the office a few months later, from Florida and requested to speak to Dr Starks, to re-start the program and that became burdensome, as it had been in the past. Then I received a phone call from his nurse Kay on my cell phone (that's how she's always called me) and she wasn't pleased that I would only speak with him and not her. I prevailed and she told me that she would share what I had told her with him and that he would call me. Nothing happened, no phone call. Then, a few days later, I checked my home phone, in Virginia and there was a message from Dr Starks, on my landline, not my cell (purposely?) and I was angry enough to walk away. In my world the person who writes the check is involved to the extent that they wish to be. That all transpired 3 weeks ago and no one has contacted me from The Urology Group. 2 stars Poor care. Indifferent staff. Surgery set up in Loudoun hospilal 35 minutes away, when Reston hospital was close to my home. I waited 4 hours for surgery at almost 6 p.m. No food or water as part of prep. At first I was told that stent would not be removed for 2 weeks due to a lack of appointment times, even though medically only a week was called for. I complained to the surgeon and this was rectified. No issues medically with the surgery. At a follow up visit, I received a form with notes in medical jargon. I was at reception to see if it was accurate. I had no idea. I had never seen the notes before and didn't know what they meant in layperson's terms. Upon request, the nurse wrote descriptions of about 5 conditions including a fatty liver. This is quite serious since I have family members with liver disease. None of this was discussed nor a follow up recommended with my primary care. If I had not asked I might well have left that office without awareness of these serious conditions. Even the voicemail service sounds primarily oriented to the office rather than providing service. I felt like a body rather than a person. read more

My husband has been under the care of Dr. Schenk for about 10 years. Dr. Schenk I think is an excellent urologist but the office is hugely overloaded with patients, many many more than they can handle. Thus it is nearly impossible to get anyone to call you back with anything issue let alone crucial test results. If you don't aggressively get your questions answered, they will never contact you. We called and called for 3 weeks trying to get an MRI prescription pre-authorized. We are looking for a new practice that can handle the case load. read more

I would give 0 stars if able. This practice routinely schedules too many appointments in a day. I show up for my 1030 appointment scheduled 3 months earlier and I'm not seen until an hour later. I understand a 10,15, even 20 minute delay for the doctor to catch up or get prepped. But an hour? It was the same way when I came to my first appointment but I saw it as a fluke. Not so much. The doc only spent 10 minutes with me too so I can only imagine how many other patients he's seen in that window. I'm sure they are double and triple stacking patients. Only concerned about making money. The medical advice I got? Take a vitamin... and of course the doctor has a flyer and coupon code for the perfect supplement for me.
