The office is a money mill with all customer service, quality, and attention cut to less than bare bones. Visiting the office, one would think some great plague or natural catastrophe has occurred, because crowds of people have so filled the office that a line extends down the hall and even to the stairwell. You can't sit inside to wait because of the bodies and the awful heat. The staff, embattled, have a station model set up to deal with clearly thousands of patients, quadruple booked every 15 minutes. I was forcefully told to arrive 15 minutes early. I was seen 1.5 hours late. The doctor came in, glanced at me, and the visit was over in under 5 minutes. Cannot speak poorly enough of every facet of this clinic. They're barely skating the lines of ethics and requirements to bill insurance for the 20 visits they book per hour- barely. read more

The doctors do not seem to care about their patients. My father was referred to this practice while in the ER. The doctor had us drive an hour away to a different office location just to tell us he was willing to operate on my father; something he could have done over the phone. Then, once we were in the hospital after the operation, the doctors effectively ignored my father. We saw different doctors each day, providing no feeling of continuity of care, for as short a time as possible each day. Their lack of care doubled the amount of time we spent in the hospital: almost a week, rather than one night. Run from this practice. read more

After my procedure I had to come here for follow up. A bit inconvenient for me, especially with the office in National Harbor being my homebase. I'm told that National Harbor is still in the midst of setting up and that is why I needed to come here. What is interesting about this location is that it is in a well established office/medical building that kind of makes you feel like you are in an actual hospital. I showed up and did my check in and had to wait a bit. To note: I stopped here during the Halloween season and they were directed for such. It wasn't very calming to my anxiety to see decorations stating the area I was about to go into for my follow up said it was 'contaminated' and having zombie arms reaching out to you. With my anxiety in high gear I am called back and walked through the maze to the room where I will be seen. Vitals taken, and instructions given to me quickly. I knew I was there to have a stint removed and to be given the instruction quickly, having never done this before, baffled me. I stood there stunned and had to ask for the instructions again. Given the instructions again I proceed to get ready and positioned for the tech to come back in. Tech comes in, and I have to hand it to her, she is good at distraction. Not sure how many of you out there have ever had anything done in the undercarriage area of your body, but everything they do in that area catches you by surprise. As I am, uh, being prepped, the tech is talking and explaining to me that I am going to be numbed. Her distraction technique was simple, keep talking as if you are gong to do it and then do it a few seconds later. I was in mid-answer when, wham-bam, inserted and numbed. I don't think I even finished my answer. Laying there, naked from the waste down (covered, mind you), feelin more vulnerable than I have ever been in my life. Being inserted into and numbed, in walks the doctor. With my head swimming, the doctor walks me through what is about to happen next. Anxiously I nod my head yes after he finishes and asks if I understand allowing for him to proceed. Continually coaching me to breathe through it all. Mind you, there is a monitor in the room that allows for the doctor to see where he is inside you and also allows for you to watch as well. Now, to have another object inserted into an exit hole while being able to watch it like it's a Netflix documentary is a surreal experience. When it reaches the spot where this thing has been sitting inside you for about a month at that point and you see a claw expand from the end, grab a hold the this thing, and the doctor tells you to take a deep breath...WOW! I never felt anything like that in my life, even with the undercarriage being numbed. The doctor was pleased with the stint coming out without any problems. Pleased with the procedure he tells me I won't need antibiotics, it may feel funny to me for a bit in the undercarriage area, and that I should be back to normal in about a day or two. All after declaring, "It's a boy" after the extraction. The one thing I didn't care much for here was the customer service from the front desk. It was like I was intruding to those member of the staff. I filled out my paperwork, paid my copay, and sat and waited to go back. Then, weeks later I get a bill in the mail for my copay, which I clearly paid while there. I have received several statements now at home stating I have not paid. When I go onto the website and sign into their portal, type in the statement number, I am told I have no balance due. I would gladly pay the $10, but I'm not sending it via the mail when your website clearly has registered I already paid in office. I can't wait for them to attempt to send me to collections for that $10 I already paid in person. read more

I've seen more care towards the job from Walmart employees than I did from any of the front of staff and team of nurses. Beyond that, the medical opinion I got was so conflicting from the first specialist I've seen that I'm now going to have to go to a third specialist before I can feel confident in making any kind of decision with my procedure. This is literally like my second time ever leaving a review, thats how horrible I feel leaving this place. Anyone here end up finding a better practice nearby? Lmk read more

Potomac Urology's nurses and medical techs are rude, ignorant about medical details and sloppy in their medical record-keeping. I would never let a loved one go back there. One exception are the front desk staff who were pleasant. They are the only positive part of the practice. Find another practice for urology. read more

My appointment with Nilay Ghandi, was not satisfactory. The interaction was not very personable, and I felt rushed throughout.

ZERO STARS! This is the worst office I have ever seen! I went in for a UTI and was told by the doctor that someone would call me to let me know if I needed an antibiotic or not. The urine test was in the next day (in the portal) but it was unclear what it meant to me. I called numerous times, left voice mails and even left a message in the portal. No one called me back. I kept calling and finally got a nurse who told me she didn't have a urine result and labcorp must have lost it, even after I told her there was something in the portal. She made me go to another lab. After a few more days someone sent me a message in the portal saying they called in an antibiotic based on the urine test from my initial visit. This was NINE DAYS after my initial visit! They let me suffer for NINE DAYS! When I sent a message back asking the result of the test, several days later I was told to look in the portal! This office does not care about their patients and they do not respond to you! Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else but here! read more

Dr Alok Desai is a class act! Anyone who has dealt with kidney stones knows that waiting for help can be torturous. Dr Desai graciously added me to his already full surgery schedule and gave me the best of care. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a medical provider. I suffered with a large kidney stone for over a month. It was impossible to reach a doctor at Potomac. The administrative staff would put me on hold and never come back. I wouldn't receive a return phone call from the doctor after being promised one. I tried to switch urologists, but no one else could get me in within a reasonable timeframe. After three visits to the emergency room, I insisted on being scheduled for surgery. They skipped the pre-operation appointment. I had to look online to find out what the surgery would be like. The day of surgery, I asked the surgeon some questions. Although I had very few questions about the procedure, at least one answer he provided me was flat wrong. I had my stent removed after surgery and the pain was worse than ever. I ended up back at the emergency room twice. Potomac Urology just gaslit me and kept telling me the pain shouldn't be that bad and there was nothing they could do. I insisted on another CAT scan at the emergency room, and it turned out there was still a stone present. I'm 99% confident they failed to remove most of the stone when they did the surgery. Eventually, with no medication and no help from Potomac, I passed the stone. Many months (or over a year) later they billed me an additional $150 for a lab from that ordeal. It is so long after the procedure I have no way of knowing if the bill is legit, but they absolutely hound me for that $150. I wish they were 1/10 as good with their communication about my medical care as they were about the $150 they now want. Horrible communication and administration. Bad medical care. Poor accounting. If you're looking for help with a kidney stone, avoid this place like the plague. There are a lot of good Urologists in the area. read more

I was discharged from the hospital on the afternoon of Dec 23, with instructions to followup with Potomac Urology to have my Foley catheter removed within 3 days. I called for an appointment on Dec 24, and the front desk -- which you can not get beyond --scheduled me for Jan 8 in spite of my explanation that I needed to be seen within 3 days. I now have a UTI with blood and pus in my Foley catheter. I called back for an earlier appointment and was given Jan 3. I asked to speak to a manager but none was connected to me nor has a manager called me back. Do NOT use Potomac Urology. The "non-care" for their patients is nothing short of malpractice. I now have to deal with a UTI, and blood and pus in my urine. I am in pain -- but Potomac Urology doesn't care! read more

My father went to Potomac Urology where he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Unfortunately, my father also has dementia and can not be responsible for his own care. I do believe the doctor that we saw was compassionate and competent, but he is on an island in this care. We were frequently asked to wait for 60-120 minutes for an appointment. They could not fit his wheelchair into the lab, so at one point they took his blood in a hallway after waiting for the phlobotomist to return from some mystery trip that took 20 minutes. The nurses couldn't be bothered to help our family - they would just point down a narrow hallway and say go that way and never followed up to see if we were taken care of by the next person in the chain of medical care, sometimes leaving us unattended for 45 minutes. They also forgot to change my father's catheter until I reminded them. And after all of this, they have been harassasing us about a bill we were unaware existed. My father's dementia means he is incapable of doing billing. We informed the office repeatedly that we paid the bill, and despite the fact that we have in fact mailed the payment, they call us three times a week while we are dealing with an incredibly difficult medical situation. I finally spoke to a supervisor, who said that she would ask the billing department to stop calling, but I received another phone call again today. To reiterate, the doctor is compassionate and competent, but his office feels like you are a number in their fast food factory version of medicine. I would never bring anyone that I loved here when the DMV has so many wonderful medical professionals that have offices that treat their patients respectfully. read more

I wish there was a star lower than 1, and it still wouldn't be accurate enough. If you care about the health of yourself, or your loved one, DO NOT GO HERE!! RUN FAR AND FAST from this place! Dr Desai is a wonderful physician. Unfortunately, my experience has been everyone else that works in the practice, the support team, office managers, service reps, schedulers, etc, are incompetent, do not know how to communicate and don't do their job and do not care about patients. I'm a caretaker for my mom who almost died last year from a UTI. She frequently gets them due to recent medical conditions. She has another that her assisted living is having trouble getting under control, and two weeks of phone calls to Potomac Urology (hours on hold) - being put on hold multiple times for over an hour, then hung up on when it's lunch time or close of business, four faxes from assisted living with culture results, messages left for the office manager Joseph and NP Maureen, I'm done. There's so much more to include here but I've wasted enough time with these peope. You get the gist. My recommendation is don't go here for care. read more

All of my reports of pain and discomfort were ignored. I was simply given more pain meds. Or told it was even in my head. Was even made fun of. I hadn't visited this place in over 5 years when they reached out to schedule a check-up. I scheduled my appointment, but encountered a conflict two days beforehand which prevented me from attending. I diligently went online via their Patient Portal to cancel/reschedule well in advance, but apparently, my request didn't go through. To my surprise, I received a bill a month later for a $50 "No Show" fee. They claimed they would have sent an email, but how could I have known? If I had realized my online cancellation attempt wouldn't work, I would have called during business hours. Unfortunately, I handled it at night, when no one was available to answer the phone. If their Patient Portal fails to register online cancellation attempts, they shouldn't offer the option at all. Potential patients should beware - this isn't the place to trust with your care; they seem more interested in money than patients' well-being. I strongly urge everyone to look elsewhere for healthcare services. This experience has shown me they prioritize billing over patient care. Doctor was professional, wait was reasonable, came out with a plan/prescription. As insurance wouldn't provide more than 5 days worth for a prescription that I would likely be taking every day for years the doctor said I could get it at the office out of pocket and was charged immediately. After 30 days of not hearing, I called them and they said it was at the office. When I went to the office, it wasn't there. So, a quick pickup turned into a long investigation which led to me being late for a meeting because their staff doesn't apparently make phone calls or know that "in the system" does not mean "in the office" and that the difference between those two can be significant. So, I've got no pills after a month, my shoes still get wet, and apparently I get to start all over somewhere else... But at least we confirmed I didn't have cancer so we know what the problem isn't. read more

My son, who has mobility issues due to a rare autoimmune disorder had an appointment at 3:40. He was finally called back at 5:15. To put things in perspective, I have Stage 4 cancer and was having stomach pains, so I was supposed to go with him to his appointment but I went to the ER instead and my husband took him. I was out of the ER and home in a Lyft quicker than he was for his appointment. And my visit included a CT scan and bloodwork. I'm livid. Had to rate 1 star because of the following: 1. The wait, even w/appointment, is always 1+ hour(s). They overbook to make more money at their clients' expense. 2. The doctor rushes to finish appointment in 2-5 minutes max, which makes point 1 even more absurd. 3. The office staff and doctor refuse to answer calls or return messages. First time here Dr Desai and staff were wonderful. I had a very short wait. Dr Desai listened to me and talked with me directly rather than sitting at a computer. The medical assistant in the room entered notes into the computer. He really pinpointed my issue and has developed a treatment plan. I was so relieved when I left. I got a call a few days later about an abnormal urine and was put on antibiotics immediately. read more

I'm giving Dr. Alok Desai this rating! He's amazing and knows his stuff! The nurse in the room with us I was unimpressed with her attitude! She acted like she didn't want to be there! She seemed upset because she had to go get a cover for me! I said thank you and she never responded! When I first came in only one of the receptionist was willing to help me! She was very pleasant! If people don't like doing their job leave and find something else! Don't make the patient feel bad! You make the whole doctors office look bad! The nurse never came back with my pee sample! I had a great experience here. Got my vasectomy last week. Dr. Salem was great - the procedure was quick and efficient. Started right on time and he answered the million questions I had while it was going on. Best of all, absolutely no pain or discomfort afterwards. That's some great skill! read more

Not sure how this business is still operating. The entire office team is incompetent. On top of their incompetence, they are liars. I had an appoint on Feb. 17 that needed insurance per-authorization. I called several times to follow up with the office and I was told it was pending with the insurance company. On March 8 I called my insurance company and they stated they never received any per-authorization request. This is a medical facility that does not respect it's patience. This office is a disaster. I had a tele-visit scheduled and after repeated phone calls to confirm, on the day of the visit my appointment was dropped, no record of it on the patient portal. No phone call or message left for me. Trying to reach them is very difficult and on the patient portal the doctor I was supposed to see is not an option to leave a message. Receptionists are face of any practice And they are first impression in many cases. However, Claudia at the front desk is the MEANEST and RUDEST individual I've ever encountered. We are new patients: no greeting upon walking in, no please and thanks yous, demanding verbiage "your id and insurance card, fill these forms out, sign here and there", no eye contact at all. Just overall, she was not happy to be working... On the other note, my husband said Dr. Singh was very friendly, explains everything, and flexible. read more

Everything the front staff does as part of the job for which they were hired, such as capturing information accurately and scheduling appointments was problematic from A-Z. On September 12th, 2023, my relationship with Potomac Urology came to an end after 5 years. Their new phone call screening system effectively stonewalled direct contact when it was necessary to solve a problem. Prior to that day I had always gotten confirmation in advance of my appointments but not anymore. I was told I'd get a call in advance of my telehealth appointment when I tried to confirm the day before. The appointment was for 1:45 and when nothing happened I called at 1:30 and kept checking back until I finally got a response after 3 pm. I got the email link at 3:18 but I told them I needed a bathroom break due to the long wait. The directions for the link were verbose and confusing but I got connected at 3:53. Using a second phone, I called to let them know the situation and when I got through I was told to wait again. The doctor never came online. I can't ever trust these people again. The single star is the required minimum. read more

I was referred to this practice while in the hospital. It's very difficult to get an appt (4-6 wk wait). The worst is that messages are NEVER returned!! Thinking of finding a new dr even though I still need tests & treatment. Office staff could use some courtesy training too. While the doctors may be good I def don't recommend since you can't see them or communicate with them. I had to cancel a test on the same day due to a migraine & extreme nausea. They charged me $200 for the cancellation stating they had to bring in a special tech to do the test even though I was too sick to travel & worried I'd vomit in the office. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE...I was blocked from making an appt. because of a billing error. I did not owe Potomac Urology a penny! In the meantime, I could not make an appt. even though I had major health concerns. Called Dr. Klein who did not return my call until it was resolved weeks later. I also sent many emails to their office trying to resolve the matter. I never received an email response. After it was resolved, I did not receive an apology from the Potomac Urology or Dr. Klein. No concern was shown for my serious health condition. Very disappointing. It is very sad that they care more about dollars and cents than their patients. The staffs, billing office and the Doctors all have very bad attitude and behavior towards patients. Recently, waiting became very long. Doctor (Kline) didn't even try to intro and displayed very careless behavior. Finally the billing department completely messed up with my bill. Although I paid the co-pay but it never entered into the system. A wrong bill was sent to my Insurance and failed correct the bill even after talking multiple time with the billing people. I am giving 0 star for this facility. Avoid this facility if you can. read more

I think Dr. Alok Desai is a great Dr. He cares, You never feel rushed , He's a great listener and is knowledgeable . His bed side manners are great His nurse Zenida is kind, caring and always makes You feel comfortable, she always has time when You call no matter how busy she is . The office staff is nice but Claudia stands out because she goes out of her way to speak to me even if she's not waiting on me. It's a great feeling entering a Drs. Office and feeling welcomed. read more
