After I saw an oculoplastic surgeon who performed several unsuccessful surgeries to treat my lagophthalmos, I decided to find someone who would approach my condition with a different strategy. I extensively researched oculoplastic surgeons practicing in the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area. My research led me to Dr. Zatezalo. From my first consultation with Dr. Zatezalo, I knew he was the surgeon for me. He is kind, smart, and compassionate along with experienced, talented, and creative in surgical procedures. He clearly explained to me that I needed full thickness skin grafts (FTSG) to functionally improve the operation of my eyelids. I had read about eyelid skin grafts from various Internet websites that described it as a last resort because of its complexity and routinely poor cosmetic outcome. Recovery may take up to a year or more before the grafts blend into the rest of your face and even then, they are usually a different texture and slightly off color. Dr. Z exerted no pressure on me to have the procedure. Deep down inside I knew I needed it. I had to do something as I could not go on living the way I was, and yet, I was afraid of what I would look like after a FTSG on my lower eyelids. I was using eyedrops nonstop during the day, and at night I would awaken every few hours in pain from the dryness and had to instill dry eye ointment. I wore sunglasses indoors because my eyes barely tolerated room lights or being out in the sunlight. I was miserable and my quality of life had gotten so poor, I did not want to leave my home. Dr. Zatezalo was very patient with me and again very honest. I had read many of his patient reviews of how he gave back his patients' lives through corrective surgery. I decided to move forward with full thickness skin grafts as Dr. Zatezalo recommended. In my case, it took approximately six months before the grafts started to blend in well with the surrounding skin and not be noticeable. My level of comfort improved immediately after the surgery as I now had more skin in my lower eyelids to help my eyes close completely. I no longer needed to use eyedrops and ointment like before. I was also able to tolerate artificial and natural light without sunglasses. I had the FTSG surgery in 2018. Today, people don't know I had it unless I point it out to them. The Zatezalo Group is located in a beautiful and modern office with easy parking access. Amelia and Kimmy, Dr. Zatezalo's staff, are super friendly, efficient, and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Zatezalo to anyone who needs functional repair or desires cosmetic enhancement of their eyes. Thanks to him, the quality of my life has improved greatly. He really is a remarkable doctor and person.

Would not hesitate to recommend him to others.

I didn't WANT to make the long trip out to Annandale after an agonizing workday…read more.. But it was worth the drive. After years of condescending doctors looking down their noses while chucking multitudes of medicines at me for my low back and sciatic pain , I was nearly at my wit's end. However, the moment Dr. Gorsen walked into the evaluation room to greet me, I felt like someone was finally in my corner. He had a jovial tone (although he took me seriously), read my chart thoroughly, reviewed my MRI's extensively, let me speak without cutting me off, actually LISTENED, and fully processed what I had to say before responding. I can tell when a doctor enjoys his work by his bedside manner, and this doctor has a stellar one. While he's extremely busy (engaged in various side projects, inventions, and work with sports injury patients), Dr. Gorsen still took his time with me, didn't make me feel rushed, did make me feel comfortable, and managed to quickly devise and explain to me several prospective lines of attack to get to the root of my suffering. He patiently conveyed what I didn't understand in lay terms, and even offered an interim solution between now and the next time I would follow up with him - going back and forth several times to his supply room, working with me to find just the right sized back brace, and educating me on how to use it. If a guy this busy can manage to have a good humor, patience, and sympathy for his patients, the rest of you cocky doctors with atrocious people skills running patient mills should be ashamed. Additionally, the staff was pleasant, the office wasn't crowded with over-booked patients, and I've definitely had longer waits. Because of Dr. Gorsen, for the first time in three years, the light at my tunnel's end doesn't just seem like a freight train. He may or may not be able to help see me back to restored health; but at the very least, he HAS offered two very important things to me which no other doctor has bothered to even attempt thus far - and those are sincerity and hope. He has accrued an array of accolades over the years, and I can see why. I would recommend this neurosurgeon to anyone - near or far.

However, the instructions that…read moreFCRS provides for colonoscopy prep are extreme compared to respected medical sources and sites -- sites such as Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, MedlinePlus.com, gastrointestinal medical associations, and more. For example, they want you to stop all consumption 6 hours before just arrival at their office, which is at least 1 hour before anesthesia and surgery. This is opposed to the advice of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. According to their current guidelines, most healthy patients should stop drinking liquids, including clear liquids, around two hours before their scheduled anesthesia time. Therefore, I conclude that their instructions are more suited for the comfort and convenience of their doctors and personel, as opposed to your own comfort and well-being while prepping. So I would advise patients to seek other sources for prep instructions and make your own decision in your best interests.

I have been going for more than a year for Botox. The first time my eyebrows had a heavy look and generally just look "frozen" despite I explained I would like them to be lifted not dropping that much. In any case, did not like it and the same happened the second time even though I specifically said to Dr. Cabin last time I was in I was upset with the result. They said, we understand, and we will do otherwise. I did Halo and BBL with no result, just trust me. I was advised to do fillers under my eyes, laugh lines and jaw area. I asked how it would look under my eyes and jaw area since it was my first time I was told it would look very nice. It was very painful. Next morning I woke up with big bags under my eyes. I thought it's just swelling, and it would go away. It was not the case. I had an international travel coming up in 2 days. I talked to Dr. Cabin, and he said he could dissolve it, but it would be painful as well and I would have bruises. I had to wear my hat for about two weeks because I looked awful. Then my friends who travelled with me advised that I would see a doctor in Istanbul because I looked scary. He was surprised to see fillers been injected under my eyes. He was able to dissolve some of it and I felt myself again. I was thinking of face lift but thank God did not do it at this practice. I do not think Dr. Cabin would be able dissolve if something went wrong with surgery. Ladies, please, please do not rely on and trust 5-star reviews and always start with something small and see the results first. I can't imagine an experienced plastic surgeon can't understand and imagine what will look right on your face before advising anything. If things can go wrong by injecting such simple procedures like fillers, Botox, etc. I do not want to imagine what will happen under his knife. I always choose expensive clinics by just thinking if it is expensive, it must be good and it's my face at end of the day. I guess I must pay attention to negative reviews which are buried under excellent reviews and then make my final decision from now on. I do not recommend Dr. Cabin for Botox, fillers, Halo, BBL and for any facial surgeries. Please do a thorough search before you end up like me. After the response from clinic I had to answer. I received a call and asked to remove/edit my review despite I have gone through a lot of pain and ugly look at the end as a result of very simple facial procedures at this clinic. I explained the trauma I went through but they simply did not care and i refused to remove my review. If you really care about yourself, your face and do not want to experience what I have just blindly looking at the "excellent" reviews. It's up to you if you prefer to ignore like I did and experiment.

I was told Dr. Engel would review and potentially assume care as one of his patients, so I scheduled an appointment. My initial appointment was uneventful however, I did find it odd that Dr. Engel, started off by indicating he would've never approached my case the way his former colleague had essentially throwing him under the bus, but I did appreciate his directness. and honesty. Dr. Engel promptly arranged for a biopsy at an outpatient facility, which identified three cancerous lesions in contrast to a prior in-office biopsy that had received from his former practice colleague that indicated I was cancer-free. For that, I am grateful. However, during my follow-up visit, I asked a few questions, two of which were: whether post-surgical treatment if needed could be coordinated in Baltimore (as I was planning to relocate), and whether he had observed more aggressive prostate cancer cases among African-American patients given my family history of fatal outcomes. In response, Dr. Engel told me that my question about racial disparities was "one of the dumbest questions" he had heard and suggested that perhaps I should start treatment in Baltimore. He then exited the exam room. I was surprised and disappointed by the tone and manner of the interaction, especially given the seriousness of a cancer diagnosis and the well-documented disparities in prostate cancer outcomes. I later sought treatment at Johns Hopkins, where I experienced excellent care and professional communication.
