No one returns my phone calls or answers email messages via patient portal. I ran out of osteoporosis medicine for over 3 weeks now. A Dr. Patel emailed me saying she was filling in for Wexler and would send a script into CVS Specialty for me. That was over a week ago, and I still have no medicine because CVS Specialty claims Dr. Patel sent them an incomplete script. I sent a message regarding this to Dr. Patel, and all I got was an out of the office response. So, the circus starts all over again. I am disappointed with MedStar to allow such poor care to be acceptable. Their doctors are overworked, and I wonder if Dr. Wexler even has a staff based on the nonresponses I've received for so long. It is unbelievable ill people must go through so much just to get a prescription. If you want a doctor who responds to your needs, look for someone who cares enough to read his e-mails and has a staff who calls back.

How you interact with them and how friendly you are will make them remember you when you call or send a message.

After that, I called back to talk to Dr. Zorc's office manager to request a refund since I did not get the service I came for. The lady, who was not willing to give her name was rude and hangup the phone on me. I believe ethics must play the role and Dr. Zorc must refund the service charge that I paid for. He listened, encouraged questions, cared and came up w/ a plan that did not initially involve injections. He prescribed 2 medications and they have made a world of difference in my neck - I can hardly belive that it could feel so normal again. In addition to being an experienced and caring doctor, his breath and depth of knowledge is remarkable and his personality is exceptional. He made me feel so comfortable, encouraged questions and never made me feel rushed. Seven months ago I woke up w/ a neck problem so extreme that I could barely take a step without feeling severe pain. My PCP prescribed a medication that was too strong for me - it got rid of the pain AND my memory. Flash forward 7 months. During the 7 months of neck pain I met with a Physical Therapist who has helped me w/ exercises for various aches and pains over the years. This time w/ the exercises giving no relief and the neck pain so severe, I gave up and decided I would probably need cortocosteroid injections. I had an MRI and made an appointment w/ an Orthopedic Surgeon my PCP recommended. I had a folder with the recent cervical MRI and all the doctor's notes and reports from visits to previous doctors. The Orthopedic Surgeon had me take additional Xrays in his office. He immediately recommended I see a doctor for cortocosterioid injections in my neck. He didn't spend more than 7 minutes in the examining room and most of the time with his BACK to me -it was an odd experience. I tried to see the doctor he recommended but her staff made so many mistakes in making the appointment, telling me I had an appt on March 31, then after receiving many confirmation requests from them, when I called to ask a question, was told I didnt have an appt till April 7. I called again to ask about get injections and was told I did have a March 31 appt. It was all more than I wanted to deal with and canceled with her. I feel so fortunate that I got to quickly see Dr. John F. Dombrowski at the Washington Pain Center on New Mexico Ave, in NW DC . He was AMAZING. Without even looking at the MRI report and the Xrays, he told me exactly what the MRI report would say and what the Xrays would show - he is that experienced. AND best of all, Instead of getting an injection, he suggested I first try some medications. After taking one pill yesterday and one today, my neck already feels better. I can actually turn my head without wincing in pain. There was another patient who came in after me. Before Dr. Dombrowski saw him, he came to me to ask me a "favor"- would I mind if he saw the other patient before me as Dr. D. knew it would be a short appointment with the other patient. How many doctors would ask for your permission to do that or would they just do what they want? I have been kept waiting such long times at some offices, with no explanation being given from anyone, that I have walked out. The office waiting room is inviting and comfortable AND the receptionists are the nicest I have ever met. They both were so kind. I especially appreciated Kate helping me use the Ipad to fill out the forms and telling me I did not need to rush. IMHO, the people at the front desk can create a positive or negative feeling from the moment you walk into an office. For me, if the first people you meet in an office are too busy to look up and welcome you, that is not a good sign. Kate and the other receptionist created a very positive environment. I am thankful I found Dr. Dombrowski and his team. Am looking forward to returning in a couple weeks for a checkup!!

A minor but needless frustration: callers are told that appointments can be scheduled online. This is not actually possible, as one discovers only after wasting about 20 minutes trying. More seriously, during my sleep study, the technician insisted on waking me at 5:00 a.m. because he wanted to go home. This rule requires patients to fall asleep before midnight if both portions of the study--with and without CPAP--are to be completed. According to the records, I fell asleep at 11:58 p.m., yet the full study was still not completed. I must therefore undergo the study again. Whether I will be charged for this second attempt remains to be seen. In any case, because of long wait times, my diagnosis and treatment have been delayed by multiple months.

One woman screamed at me because I suggested she call my insurance company to verify that I didn't have a copay - because they always charge me a copay that I don't owe and then take months to refund it. When I gave in to her atrocious behavior and bullying it once again took months of calling their office to get my copay refunded. And all Dr. Iyengar said was I don't know much about insurance or billing. Thankfully I found an endocrinologist in Rockville who is an excellent diagnostician and his staff are kind and competent.

Answered all my questions and made me feel very comfortable through the entire process. I was nervous because she needed to do a biopsy to rule out Cancer. But I didn't feel a thing because they have you put numbing cream on your neck ahead of time. Overall I felt good leaving there as I would recommend her to anyone. Also, she's usually very booked so I recommend calling as soon as possible.
