I was told Dr. Engel would review and potentially assume care as one of his patients, so I scheduled an appointment. My initial appointment was uneventful however, I did find it odd that Dr. Engel, started off by indicating he would've never approached my case the way his former colleague had essentially throwing him under the bus, but I did appreciate his directness. and honesty. Dr. Engel promptly arranged for a biopsy at an outpatient facility, which identified three cancerous lesions in contrast to a prior in-office biopsy that had received from his former practice colleague that indicated I was cancer-free. For that, I am grateful. However, during my follow-up visit, I asked a few questions, two of which were: whether post-surgical treatment if needed could be coordinated in Baltimore (as I was planning to relocate), and whether he had observed more aggressive prostate cancer cases among African-American patients given my family history of fatal outcomes. In response, Dr. Engel told me that my question about racial disparities was "one of the dumbest questions" he had heard and suggested that perhaps I should start treatment in Baltimore. He then exited the exam room. I was surprised and disappointed by the tone and manner of the interaction, especially given the seriousness of a cancer diagnosis and the well-documented disparities in prostate cancer outcomes. I later sought treatment at Johns Hopkins, where I experienced excellent care and professional communication. While I cannot and would not, speak to Dr. Engel's clinical competence, my personal experience with communication and bedside manner was not one I would recommend. Respectfully submitted Damon D

I was seen much later than expected, due to patient volume. Dr. Engel handled my sensitive areas very roughly and performed the procedure as if in a hurry. What's worse - it was unsuccessful! The staff wasn't contrite when I informed them and instead wanted to reschedule. I will get the procedure done elsewhere. Avoid this practice. Oh, also Tony Kornheiser was in the office that day, and Dr. Engel bragged that he'd get a shoutout on Tony's show at the end (he didn't).

From first losing my urine sample and making me return to the office for a second one, to somehow submitting all claims to a past insurance member number that hasn't been active for a decade (though I handed them the current insurance card), this place has been a nightmare to handle my claims. They also will not forward my records to my GP despite multiple requests. I spoke with the office 6 times over 5 weeks before they agreed to refund the charges to my credit card which would have been fully covered if they submitted the claim through my actual insurance member number. Now I'm being hounded by the laboratory for the cost of lab work that was submitted to the wrong insurance, 7 weeks afterward. I hope No problem Ndidi finds a new office home for her great care, as this office will not see me again.

I agreed to have them mail it but now had to move my dr appointment to the following day to allow time for the letter to be received in the mail.. Well when we received the letter they had misspelled my name in the history.. had my fiance's age wrong saying he was 41 when he is 32 even with his birthday being in the title of the letter. And the icing on the cake is that it said he never submitted a sample for test..REALLY? my infertility doctor now does not want to proceed with our cycle this month because she does not believe that a dr will make that many mistakes in a letter and that we are trying to hide his results. So i just lost on hundreds of dollars of being monitored and medication I cannot even use now. I submitted a letter to them and I am hoping someone cares enough to at least call me and apologize. The doctors were amazing but we are going to have the results done somewhere else because their office associates are not professional what so ever. I wish I could give 0 stars for them.

Bottom line: 50 minutes late first appointment. No doc, no nurse, no apology. but we stayed. 30 minutes late second appointment. No doc, no nurse, no apology. This time we walked out. I grant you one star, for good magazines in your waiting room--your saving grace, since waiting is basically what we did. The Details: My husband (and I) made two visits to this office. The first one, we were 20 minutes early for our appt. Surprisingly, we were escorted to an exam room within 10 minutes of sign in...and we were pretty darn impressed. ("Wow, they've got their smoozle together!") We sat in said exam room, waited and expected the doc/someone to show up within 10 minutes. Tick, tick, tick....and we now figured, well, if we can't be done early, on-time is ok. ("Well, it was a good start anyway! On-time is alright by us. No one promised a miracle!") Ten minutes go by. Another 20 minutes go by. By now the doc is 20 minutes late. Doc wizzes by "I'll be with you in a minute". Um. ok. ("Ok, maybe this is just a bad morning. Invoke OM, namaste.") 30 minutes, 40 minutes. No doc. No nurse. No apology. No consideration that maybe the two professionals in the exam room #2 may actually have to go back to work in order to earn the money that is going to pay for this appointment. We talk to the staff. "He is very busy this morning." ("Ok, but are we at the airport? You know, overbooking is equally annoying there, too!!!!!!") Doc finally shows up. No apology or acknowledgement of the delay. Business as usual. He does his thing. We leave. ("A little arrogant, but we will give him one more chance.") Hubby goes back for a follow-up appointment this morning. Waited 30 minutes, asks staff why the delay. No response, no apology, no acknowledgement that his time is important. And this time, no early whisking away to an exam room. No Doc. No nurse. (Hubby calls me, "I've been waiting 30 minutes. I'm leaving.") Dr. Shin, Staff, you have some serious time management issues going on. We weren't the only ones left waiting. Your UVa "charm" will not help you when you can't even apologize for the mismanagment. (I know that "charm", I'm an alum, too.). I grant you one star, for good magazines in your waiting room.

***ATTENTION LADIES*** Shady Grove is not only for IVF…read morepatients. If you've had multiple miscarriages like me, you might want to consider choosing Shady Grove (DC/K Street) to see their highly specialized reproductive endocrinologists. Let me start by saying KUDOS to my patient care coordinator "Jo-jo" (Jolissa) Vialva. I cannot praise her enough. She has been my champion and advocate throughout my maternal health journey. (More so than my OBs at Capital Women's Care who don't really seem to care half as much as Jo-jo.) Over the course of 5 months since I first made the appointment to see Dr Kimberly Moon (who was referred by three people I trust, including my gynecologist) Jo-jo has diligently and persistently followed up with me and even just messaged me from time to time to check up on me. I'm blown away because NONE of my doctors ever do that. She truly makes you feel like she cares! I especially appreciate her effort to fit a virtual appointment with Dr. Moon to accommodate my husband and my busy schedules. Initially there was a lot of confusion and miscommunication with my insurance during my transfer from the Shady Grove Fairfax location (which is HORRIBLE). I was very upset, but everything got resolved thanks to Lauren the Director of the Shady Grove DC location who personally called me to rectify the situation. I was extremely impressed by her leadership and the patient-centered resolution. She even gave me her direct phone line to call her if I needed her assistance (though thanks to Kayla the finance coordinator, everything was taken care of as promised.) Her gesture definitely helped build my trust and confidence in the care I would receive at Shady Grove. In terms of actual care/procedure, Dr. Kimberly Moon was very generous with her time -- she was clearly knowledgeable and thorough in reviewing my previous records, and patiently answered my husband and my questions without making us feel rushed. Getting a saline sonogram at the location was seamless: from the check-in process (no wait time) to the friendly front desk staff and the sonographer, everything was efficient and easy. The facility was immaculate. While I can't comment on their IVF treatments, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going to SHADY GROVE DC location to receive quality care and follow up!

Working with Shady Grove has been one disaster after another…read more I made a standard appointment for semen analysis. After providing the sample at the K Street location, I was called two days later and informed that the appointment was set up incorrectly and I had to reschedule. No apology or explanation was provided and payment was collected. The next appointment was a hour away from my house but I took it. At the second appointment, I was greeted (Rockville location) by a rude front desk staffer who redirected me to a different floor. At the next front desk, the staff was again disorganized and rude. Today, I was told that results will not be added to my patient portal for up to 30 days, despite being told - repeatedly - that the test takes 7-10 days for results to be returned. To date, no one has apologized for the repeated failures of the staff. No one seems concerned that the staff is incapable of communicating effectively or scheduling appointments. Despite promises, a manager has yet to call me to discuss the situation.

They referred me to Capital Digestive Care and stated that it was part of GWMFA. When I made the call to Capital Digestive Care, they were rude and made it clear that they are not a part of GWMFA and that there would be a wait with them. My complaint is that I've been with GWMFA for at least 15 years and the service has gotten worse over the years. GWMFA number of patients have grown exponentially and they have not kept up with the demand for doctors and services. (colonoscopy, mammogram, sleep study, etc.) I hope they can turn things around - otherwise I'll be looking elswhere.

To say…read morethat my fiancee's experience at this practice has been horrible would be a gross understatement and wouldn't remotely do the experience justice. My fiancee initially saw Dr. Gabriel Diaz and quite frankly we weren't impressed with him or his treatment of my fiancee. He was quick to invalidate what she was saying she was feeling and appeared skeptical of her despite her having a long, complicated history of GI issues. Eventually, he told her that she would need to have an endoscopy so we could move forward with understanding the cause of her chronic stomach pain and discomfort as well as officially confirming whether she has celiac disease or not. Our experience since scheduling the initial endoscopy has been nothing short of unprofessional and unserious. She was initially scheduled for an endoscopy on March 14th and was told she needed to consume gluten (which she reacts to) for 4 to 6 weeks before her procedure. A few days before the procedure she receives a call from the gastro office saying that they've had something come up and they need to reschedule her procedure and the soonest available appointment is on May 23rd...over 2 months later. After she's already been consuming gluten which she has a sensitivity to at the least and celiac disease at the worst. Anyway, May 22nd rolls around and she receives a call from the gastro office mentioning that she needs to have a cardiology consult scheduled prior to the procedure and it will have to be canceled altogether until she has an EKG and reviews it with her cardiologist. This is beyond unacceptable because she has been waiting for months for this procedure and they had more than ample time to provide us with this information so that we could get this scheduled and taken care of and avoid further delay. GW Gastroenterology is beyond insensitive to the pain and suffering that their patients experience and their actions only further emphasize that. I wouldn't recommend this practice to my worst enemy.
