Amazing escape room experience. We were 10 friends and it was super fun. I will definitely go again. Good for group activities.

It was an unexpectedly rainy weekend and my husband and I, in from out of town, needed to find something to do. Breakout Studios is a fabulous choice for loosing yourself for an hour. The lobby and initial game set up is top notch and best in class. We did the WORM room and would have benefited from more hands on deck. We are no experts in lock rooms and relied heavily on clues from our fabulously nice and helpful host. The puzzles weren't hard but not exactly intuitive either. I would def bring a crew and come back to try another room! read more

We did Hacker of Silicon Valley and it was honestly very boring. As a group we were split between first timers and people who had done escape rooms before. Just too many overly intricate puzzles that weren't engaging, and unnecessary elements to the experience. I won't say too much but a huge part of it was completely irrelevant to the experience. We were really excited for this but it ended up being disappointing. Our more experienced friends said they would recommend Omniscape instead. read more

TLDR; $30/person, Saturday & Sunday booking only, immersive, worth the price for enthusiasts! Came here with my husband and friend and we were SO pleasantly surprised!! It's been 2-3 months since any of us had done a satisfying room and Breakout definitely hit the spot. We did Mission: WORM and without giving anything away, it was definitely a great challenge (but not frustrating!!) and the puzzles were creative and mostly intuitive. Definitely worth $30/person for the hour. We're definitely looking forward to coming back! It's probably a Christmas special, but after we did our room, Rosie at the front desk had us all pick a card out of a hat and it was some sort of promo/discount card for your next visit! (We pulled two birthday cards and one $20 off $120 purchase card). FYI you can only book Saturday & Sunday, week days are for corporate booking. read more

I was looking for an escape room to surprise my mom for her birthday and Clara and her crew did so amazing! I was in contact with Clara trying to plan the get together and she was super helpful in me picking a theme that would work best for my group. She even put on the monitor a Happy Birthday message for my mom which was super sweet! I originally was going to do the largest group theme, but I had people who unfortunately could not make it and Clara was able to move us to a different room that could accommodate a smaller group which the room was super fun! I cannot remember the other girl's name who guided us through the room and went over the rules, but I wanted to shout her out as well! I or my family (or both) will definitely be back to try the other rooms :) Highly recommend trying to escape from here :) read more

Fun escape room with lots of tricks and hidden clues. We did the W.O.R.M room with five people early on a Saturday evening (3 with some experience and 2 new to escape rooms). We arrived about 10 minutes early for our room and waited in the comfortable and nicely decorated lobby. Before starting the room, we had to listen to a brief description of the scenario, the rules, and a more elaborate set-up for our room. This took considerable time, but we still had the full hour in our room. The room was well designed and included lots of trick doors and clever clues. They have only been open for a few months so everything was in great shape and worked well. Everyone in our group was busy with something at all times - the sign of a thoughtful collaborative game. We finished with about 15 minutes to spare. I would say this room was easy to moderate, and good for groups with kids (we had a 12-year old in our party). I have taken almost 2 weeks to write this review because I wanted to be as detailed as possible. I really wanted to give this place a higher rating because of the awesome ambiance in the lobby and the introduction but overall I think they miss the mark on the escape room experience. Customer Service: The staff was friendly however seemed untrained and unenthusiastic. We had two ladies do our introduction, and they seemed awkward and unexcited. The technology that they use in the introduction is incredible, but it should be accompanied with enthusiasm from their staff. Instead the staff seemed somewhat uninterested, like they were tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. Overall I think they just need more practice and training, and in their defense this place is relatively new. But a first impression is a first impression. The Room: We did W.O.R.M., and let me start by saying that the immersion and construction was fantastic. However the big build up from the introduction led us to expect a lot more. This particular escape room was only 1 room, and that is a let down when you compare it to other escape rooms. The designer seems to miss one of the fundamental enjoyments that escape enthusiast love and that is the feeling that we get when we discover a new space. They implement cool technology, but they use it over and over again and it gets boring. This room was lacking variety in technology and multiple rooms. It was disappointing because they have one of the best lobbies and introductions that I have seen. Overall: I feel like the owner of this place has very good ideals and could easily become one of the best escape rooms in the area, but first they need to hone in on what really excites escape room enthusiasts. read more

Part 1/2 (See previous reviews for part 2/2) I've done over 100 escape rooms in Seattle, LA, New Orleans, Houston, and the Bay Area. I actively travel and seek out the best escape rooms in the US, so this review is catered specifically to enthusiasts looking for unique, high quality rooms. I had heard of this place from various people on the internet saying that this was the newest, hottest escape room in the area, and based off of their website design and pictures of their lobby, I initially had hope that this place would be as immersive as the better LA rooms (such as Quest Rooms) - with this type of graphic design and world building, it really did feel like the owners were going for an amazing immersive experience of that quality. Lobby / Video Tutorial - 5/5. And to be fair, the lobby and tutorial video rooms were definitely of this quality. With beautiful props, great sound effects, cool special effects, the intro sequence got me super excited for the game. The pregame experience was definitely among the best of the companies I've seen here and in general. The minute I entered the room though, I immediately knew that I had to reset my expectations, as what I saw clearly was not going to live up to the quality of the intro. W.O.R.M - low 3/5 (a reasonable, but completely standard escape room. Enthusiasts can take it or leave it). W.O.R.M is set in a small, effectively single room space with half combination locks/half basic rfid sensors, close to zero story progression/world-building past the intro, a static set with above average aesthetic but very limited interactions, and basic escape room puzzles. Enthusiasts may recognize this as reminiscent of a reasonable somewhat dated standard escape room design, and it was effectively that. This room was fine if you are okay with that, but quite disappointing after the intro, and certainly not of the same level as even the older games of the better companies in the area such as Omescape, Off the Couch, etc. Story - The premise of travelling forward in time to stop an AI is cool, but once you're in the room, the room follows the standard escape room procedure of completely forgetting that there is a story and omitting any actual plot progression or world building in the game itself. While I've come to expect this from many rooms, it hurts here given the expectations set by the site and lobby. The few vaguely story related points in the room felt arbitrarily placed without much thought for the overall narrative. The puzzle integration with the story was also not the greatest, and there were some puzzles that didnt really make sense in the context of the story, and were just there to be a part of a puzzle. Again, fine since standard escape rooms do this all the time, but disappointing in the context of the steampunk world that the company created in the lobby. Set - The set itself looked nice and had a good finish, but it was a fairly static set devoid of the little lore snippets that make the world come alive, and cool special effects/moments that immerse you into the setting. I never felt like I was in the tech leaders cell trying to follow their clues, i was just in a prison themed room doing puzzles. Puzzles - The puzzles in the room were pretty standard without any twists to enthusiasts. Certain elements were a bit frustrating - the game had a section involving 3 combination locks where it was ambiguous which code belonged to the lock, and you were just supposed to try all of them. The game also contained a red herring or two, which were somewhat annoying but not a huge deal. read more

We had lots of fun here! The puzzles were challenging and required a lot of collaborative work. There was a good mixture of puzzle types and there were some unique ones I haven't seen at other places. Binh was very thorough with pre-game explanations and set up the story well for us. The hints were extremely helpful whenever we were in a pinch but presented in a way to let us still figure it out on our own. The lobby was super nice and helped you get into the mood for the game. We did a birthday party here with eight people in a room, the escape room "Father of Silicon Valley" was not exceedingly well put together, and the goal to figure out who poisoned him was useless because it never really revealed the killer. It was an interesting experience but definitely not the best escape room i've done. read more

We booked "The Time Breaker" challenge for our son's 15th birthday party. Clara and her team are very warm and accomodating. They even displayed a Happy Birthday message on the screen for our son. We had a group of 12 teenage boys (15+ years old) and they all came out of the room excited. The unanimous feedback was that they enjoyed it. And that's a big one! We had a great experience throughout. Great customer service, beautiful decor and thoughtful themes. We will come back for other challenges. Highly recommended. read more

My friends and I came to this one for my birthday. It's great that this one gives us unlimited hints but we wanted to challenge ourselves and not use way too much hints or else this would be too easy for us. The staffs for this one were really nice and decided to give us extra time to solve all of the puzzles because we were almost done when we ran out of time though we still failed the mission sadly. This one is by far the best escape room to go to. I highly recommend this place. read more

I organized a little gathering to come check out this escape room in downtown San Jose. I have to say I was very impressed with all the small detail that went into this experience. We did the hacker of Silicon Valley, and were so so close to completing it within the time limit! Don't be ashamed to ask for clues when you get stuck! I booked it directly with Clara, who was wonderful and has me wanting to organize another little outing. Plus, you are a block away in 3 directions to a bunch of bars! So its a perfect place to gather, maybe have some dinner before and enjoy the nightlife after. read more

This was my first escape room experience, an activity I joined while visiting family in the area. It was really well orchestrated. The entry area itself was alluring, with a bit of a steampunk aesthetic. We did the "Hacker of Silicon Valley" experienced, which opened in a "time machine". Our "mission control operator" executed the fantasy perfectly, and helped us out with hints at just the right time. We didn't quite get out in time, but we were pretty close so she helped us finish, although this might have been due to there not being someone else booked immediately following us, so can't expect that for every visit. This was my first ever escape room, I was really satisfied with the overall experience. The customer service from the staff was excellent and just added on to the novel experience. Setting: The waiting area/ lobby was BEAUTIFUL. I spent a good 15 minutes before and after the escape room just taking a bunch of group photos with the props and decor. The lighting was also really good for photo-ops. Customer Service: The staff was super friendly, engaging, and enthusiastic the entire time. There was an introduction video before entering the room and the staff had a really funny and engaging introduction paired with the video. I had a lot of fun and was really excited to start the room. Additionally, the staff really went above and beyond for me and my group. The staff was super understanding, hospitable, and kind. I really felt like they listened to all my concerns and provided excellent customer service. The Room: We did "The Father of Silicon Valley" and the immersion and construction of the rooms were so amazing. There were so many different aspects to the rooms, very creative puzzles and cool clues. My group finished the room with time to spare and we all had an amazing time. I would recommend this room to people who are interested in escape rooms. The lobby is so beautifully done and worth the photo op. The room was very fun and challenging but manageable! Awesome experience and super fun with a wide range of individuals of different ages. 16, 19, 21, 50. We all had to work together and communicate and we had a blast! Admittedly, this is only the second escape room I have done -- and first one I've completed! -- that out of the way, just stepping into the lobby was astounding. Five of us were psyched up to try difficulty level 4 (out of 5) "The Father of Silicon Valley". I was astounded by the lobby and blown away by the introduction and room itself. A few nudges by our guide and we were able to complete the escape with 6 minutes to spare. The price of the event is a little bit more than the average escape room; but, the quality of the puzzles, decor of the room, the theme and it's use all make the price of entry an absolute steal. I know I will be returning here to try out more of the rooms. (I attended the room during COVID and was reassured by the staff that all necessary precautions were made to keep everyone safe: there were long breaks between groups, all rooms are sanitized when reset, the number of groups per day are limited, and other precautions) read more

This is probably one of the best escape the rooms I've been to. Maybe even the best... The steam punk decor was phenomenal and meticulously crafted. The puzzles were not impossible, but very challenging. If you're looking for a fun thing to do with the family or friends, this is a great experience. I've done a lot of escape rooms and Breakout Studios is definitely one of the most immersive experiences I've had. From their lobby to their rooms everything has a lot of detail. I'd recommend teams of at least 4 for the rooms. The puzzles weren't the most intuitive for my group but that really added to the challenging experience. Another great Escape Room option for South Bay! I have done escape rooms all over the bay area, including some of my favorites like EscapeSF, OmEscape, Off the Couch, etc... and this one ranks up there with those other great rooms. Very immersive and modern design, the immersion starts from the moment you walk in to the lobby through the intro to the room. The puzzles in the room are quite good in general and make sense within the context of the environment. I would rate immersion and puzzle quality definitely above average. We played the W.O.R.M room and with 5 experienced escape room players we were able to solve it without any hints but it could easily have stumped us a few times as well, but we got a few key ideas at the right time to keep making progress. Highly recommended, fun experience. 5-6 people is perfect for the W.O.R.M. room. read more

The thing that stands out the most about breakout are the husband and wife team that run breakout, as well as all their employees. They are all super friendly and super passionate. Great decor from the waiting area to the actual escape room. Was able to finish W.O.R.M. with 3 people and we had lots of fun. Enough puzzles to go around. Well thought out and no glitches. Only thing that can improve is that the volume for the game master to be increased, was kind of hard to hear due to the background sounds. We had to ask things to be repeated several times. The attention to detail is clear as soon as we entered the lobby, where the decor and props were amazing. Our group did the Time Breaker Challenge, and the rooms were really well done.
