This is a very unique and entertaining activity for a group of friends or as a "teamwork" experience for a work group! We had a little difficulty finding the place, as the GPS took us to the side of the strip of suites. Go around to the side closest to the highway and look for the large "Break Out Indianapolis" sign. We arrived 15 minutes before our "appointment" to sign waivers. We had signed up using a Groupon to do the Museum Heist game. For this game, there's a place to put your personal items; otherwise, I would recommend leaving your stuff in the trunk of your car if you feel comfortable doing so. Without going into too much detail and giving fun aspects away, I will say I was incredibly impressed by the level of detail that went into this game! There's an introductory video and a countdown TV with occasional audio reminders. At the end, you can get your picture taken with a sign that says how long it took you (if you broke out, which of course we did ;) ). The "hostess" was telling us that the games vary in their level of difficulty but that success rate is between 30 and 40% ! So it's definitely very challenging and takes a lot of semi-hectic running around trying to figure out clues. The only thing I would say is that because of the amount of people doing the games, the clues and props seemed a little worse for wear. I would recommend they do a bit of additional upkeep and swap out props regularly (especially any laminated pieces, which looked a little dingy). Obviously this isn't a big deal, but I think it would keep things looking a bit nicer and more professional. When we were leaving (with our fancy winners' stickers), we were trying to figure out which game to do next! That has to be a good sign. read more

Who says there is nothing to do in Indy? Our city now boasts two escape room places! Breakout is the one located on the north side in Castleton. If you like puzzles, solving riddles, and hunting for clues, Breakout is a great place to hit up with a group of friends or even on a date night. I took my husband and his friends here to celebrate his 33rd birthday and we had a really fun time. It's about $24 a person, so not the cheapest activity. But, coming from someone who doesn't like to sit for long periods, this Breakout offers a refreshing change of pace from sitting around and drinking with friends. Why not try a challenging puzzle room to keep your mind active and your group engaged with each other? You are locked in a themed room and have to find the right clues and solve puzzles to escape the room before one hour is up. It's a little unnerving as you watch the clock tick down. But for many of the rooms and depending on how many people you have in your group, one hour is just enough time to figure out how to escape. Pro tip: if you're going with a group, don't be afraid if not everyone is the "sharpest tool in the shed". Just like with trivia night at your local watering hole, having people with varying strengths, talents, skillsets is to your benefit. You never know when it might come in handy to solve a clue. If you're going stag or with just your significant other, no worries there either. Breakout is a great way to get to know some new faces. There's nothing like being locked in a room and having to collaborate to escape to get you to know someone very well. The staff at Breakout are very friendly and helpful. Once you are locked in your room, you will have a game master who has eyes and ears in your room the entire time. If you get stuck, he/she can help lead you in the right direction. And if at any time you DO need to leave the room, they will let you out. So, it's not like you're completely locked in tight. We definitely had to take advantage of the three hints they allow you to ask for when you get in a rut. Our room master was very nice and helpful in guiding us toward the right clue(s). Our group did the Museum Gallery Heist room, which is one of their hardest rooms. The backstory: priceless works of art were stolen before a prestigious gallery opening and your team must recover the artwork and return it before the gallery opening. This was quite the challenging room, as the clues weren't linear. It seemed to be a rather randomly assembled collection of clues. Our group had some trouble organizing itself at first (many of us were standing around haphazardly trying to figure out where we should be of assistance.) But, eventually everyone figured out their place and where they could help. It helps if you designate someone to be the leader of your group to make the final decision(s) on clues and such. Otherwise, you won't have much direction and will run out of time. One thing I wish Breakout had is a bar area, so you can enjoy a little nip before or after your room experience. Escape Room downtown has this sort of setup and it's a really nice way for you to relax as your group slowly trickles in. This was a lot of fun! I really want to go back and try some of their other rooms. It sound like they have rooms of varying levels too for the faint of heart. read more

This was a blast! We booked 6 of the 8 spots avail for the Casino Royale room as a birthday celebration activity. The other 2 spots quickly filled up and we made some new friends. We were concerned that it wasn't going to be anything like the show and was going to be cheesy. Nope, this was legit with gaming tables, rules, poker chips, etc. Pros: newer activity in Indy, reasonably priced ($24/person), easy to get to location, great staff Cons: may be harder to do with fewer than 6 people, wish we would have known how many clues there were total. For example, with 10 min left, do you have 1 more clue to solve or 6? We are excited to go back and try another room! and cant wait for the island paradise room coming soon read more

I feel ashamed that I haven't written this review sooner! I've been to Breakout twice now and while it was an easy win in my book over Escape Room, I was wholeheartedly impressed all the same. Having been twice now, I was honestly surprised to like the second one as much as I did, thinking I'd expect some tricks or surprises, but I didn't! The rooms are well crafted and the staff evidently enjoy their jobs. This is a great way to pass the time during the winter months! My childhood dreams have officially come true. Update & edit to my original review (below) A customer service agent reached out after a miscommunication and helped us re-plan our group outing. Our group reserved the Do Not Disturb room and had a great time. The clues were challenging and the story line was entertaining! The birthday girl really likes mysteries and this was the perfect outing for our group. We were able to breakout with 10 minutes remaining. Really want to try the other rooms now! (I did call 3 days in advance to book and called the day before to reconfirm our booking just to be sure we were on the books!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I called to check on availability for a room only to learn you have to book your tickets 2 HOURS in advance (I called 1 hour 45 minutes prior to the start time on the website.) No where on their website was this fact mentioned. Apparently they only have employees come in if the room is booked 2 HOURS before the start time. We had a group of 12 people coming and we had to cancel our outing. read more

First time at this location. We had been to one other location out of state so we had something to compare to. We did casino royale. This one had legit objects/props and a cool story line. It was pretty tough and we had to get clues for help, but we got out with 6 seconds to spare! It was warm in there so I recommend light clothes. I would definitely try another one of their rooms. I had a really good first experience at Breakout! Some of my coworkers and I thought it would be a fun team building experience. We were able to get the Groupon deal which split through our group was a great price. Highly recommend picking this up if you are going on a Monday - Thursday. We get there and it is an easy check in, many of us signed the waiver ahead of time, but if you didn't, you can do it right when you check in. We had a short wait until we were brought to the back area, the two guys that led our group explained the basic rules and how it was going to work, for this particular room we were blindfolded and handcuffed. You are able to ask for clues as two people are watching your group the whole time you are in there. I don't want to say much more about the whole experience since there could be possible spoilers, but we had a blast in the room! Everyone trying to figure it all out was hilarious and fun. We did actually run into some small issues with the game play that were Breakout's fault...thankfully they were very helpful and quick to fix the problems and help make it right. Hopefully, these were rare kinks in the system. They definitely did not make ruin the experience for us. We BARELY escaped but we did! Yay! We had such a good time, we're already planning our next visit! read more

We have done many escape type attractions and this is our fave. One room. Up to 8 friends. Unlimited hints with no time penalty. It as miffed challenging than a anticipated and the staff is great. Teddy was the best guide and was super helpful without making us feel dumb. Will definitely play again. read more

We just had the best experience! It was a tough room that really made you think! Justin our "kidnapper" was very informative and really hyped us up for the clues. He added suspense which made for an adrenaline filled time! If I could give it more stars I would! We will be back for sure! We have done rooms from other escape game companies and this one was really well set up and it made for and conducive environment. It was also really nice to see the gentleman that ran the establishment behind the desk checking people in and answering questions about the rooms and about the company! read more

We did the Mystery Mansion with a group of 2 and managed to escape with just a few seconds remaining. We loved this room. It had very high production values and there were several puzzles that were unlike anything I've ever seen before in an escape room. The staff will give hints whenever you ask for them (no walkie-talkies involved--the gamemasters just monitor you and speak to you through overhead speakers) We only asked for a few hints, but they were great ones: it was obvious the staff was paying close attention to what we were doing and saying at all times, so they only gave us as much information as we needed to start thinking in the right direction. read more

I have been to this Breakout location twice, and each time it's been an absolute blast. I don't want to go in to great levels of detail, because the mystery of what you're getting into is 99% of the fun, but I will say it's absolutely worth the price and the puzzles are challenging and fun. I'm a college student, and both times I've gone with a group of friends of similar age, and it's been fantastic. I could see this being fun for groups of any age (nothing is too physically demanding, it's all mental), but I wouldn't take a group of young kids here simply because there's a lot of logic and quick thinking involved. I plan on taking my family at some point. The staff are all very nice and helpful. You get a certain amount of hints per game (assuming your whole group agrees on using it), and the hints given are useful without straight out telling you what to do. It makes it more enjoyable without ruining the fun. At the end, if you beat the room, you get to take a photo with your final time listed, which is good for some bragging rights on social media. Overall, if you're looking for some challenging indoor fun, and you're a puzzle fan, I have no reservations about recommending Breakout Games. I plan on returning with my friends and completing as many as we can. read more

Great experience for my work+spouse group. They try to keep things streamlined as possible. I think they schedule things snugly so you should stay on time if all goes well, but fill out the waiver online ahead of time as requested, leave a couple minutes early because it is located at the end of a strip of nondescript business locations and it can be easy to get turned around in the dark, etc. You have a game-master who keeps tabs on you while you play and is available to give up to 3 clues. I had the same game-master for two trips to this location, and both times she maintained a great balance between genuinely helpful clues that still left us room to figure things out. The rooms are difficult but not impossible. They cite a 30-40% success rate per room, which I believe - I have done Island escape and Casino, and was with lots of brainy friends both times: the first time we lost/died in a fiery volcano and the second time got out with only 5 minutes to spare. They also give good guidance re: reasonable limits, so listen to them! - i.e. if it is bolted to the wall or the floor, there is really nothing hidden behind it, and tearing it off the wall will not help you escape the room. This is not a location that has a lot of red herrings, which I appreciate with my level of inexperience. It is more about being able to think outside of the box and solve puzzles than about book knowledge or education. I would think kids who are, oh, middle school and older would enjoy participating, but kids younger than that may not get as much out of it. Take that with a grain of salt, however, as I work with kids but don't have any myself. All in all, have been twice now , and have thoroughly enjoyed myself each time. Based on the price for an hour of entertainment I wouldn't go all the time 'just because,' but I would strongly consider it for a special occasion - birthday, friends in town, date night, team building, etc. read more

Always a fun experience! The room was a little small so with a full group of eight in the Casino Royale there were often times where only a few people could be working on something (easily could be completely with 4). For this specific room it is more puzzle/riddle based than searching. Staff was friendly and the room moderator was very helpful guiding when needed. The GPS guide does not fully take you to the front building. As you drive into the industrial building and it says that you have arrived, continue strait until you see the interstate and the front side of the building is right by interstate 69. read more

The first time we played, my group was paired with two14-year-old kids (who were obviously just left there by their parents). This did not make for an enjoyable time because we were basically babysitting; AND no matter how hard we tried, they didn't want to play with us so there was no team effort. I contacted Breakout and told them about what had happened and that I was unhappy with our experience. They were very friendly, accommodating and comped us a game. My daughter and her friends went last weekend and had a blast. They said the staff was very friendly and they enjoyed their time. I appreciate that Breakout Games took the time to make sure the second experience was a good one. I look forward to playing again myself! read more

Such a fun activity for when you're looking for something different. We had a great time in the kidnapping room. If you don't want to have people in your game that you don't know, you'll need to find 8 people to fill the reservation, otherwise you risk being matched with people you don't know. There are a variety of factors that determine your success/level of enjoyment at Breakout Indianapolis: the diversity of your group, the difficulty of room, your game master, etc. I understand that your experience can vary greatly depending on these factors. We participated in the Casino Royal room, our group consisted of 6 college graduates and a few kids. My experience was truly awful, mostly due to an inept game master. During the brief orientation before the timer starts, the game master lays out the rules: what you can/cannot touch, parameters for the keypads, and what to do if you need "help". Our game master said that if we needed help we should perform a song a dance toward the camera. The game began with no information on where to begin. After trying a combination of random clues scattered throughout the room, we completed our first clue. Our second clue involved a roulette table and that is where the fun ended and the frustration began. We were stuck, so we performed a song & dance, but our game master did not respond. We did this twice, about 5 minutes apart. Still, no response. After fumbling around for over 20 minutes (over 1/3 of our allotted time) our game master finally just gave us the combo. He gave a brief explanation of how the combo was determined, but it made no sense at all. I cannot stress this enough. There is ZERO chance we could have passed the clue without his help. The answer he provided contradicted everything in the clue and did not make sense. It was a very poorly designed clue. So with about 30 minutes left, we had roughly 15 clues to solve. Needless to say, we didn't even make it halfway. After the time expired, our game master returned to the room and walked us through the remaining 10 unsolved clues. I had to keep myself from laughing because some of the clues were so obscure and not connected to one another that they would have been near impossible to solve. If the goal of Breakout Indy is to frustrate its customers and make them fail, mission accomplished. Like I said before, on a different day with a different group of people and game master, I may have had a completely different experience. However, my only experience was so awful that I will definitely not return. read more

Tried for three weeks to book 3-4 rooms for a wedding party from out of town. No one ever returned my multiple messages. I even "chatted" online with a help desk person as they encouraged me to book online. She said for a party of my size to call. I did twice more. No reply. Why even have voicemail. Good luck. Once the novelty wears off you'll have to actually provide service to customers. read more
