Vegan Jammin' Bennie
Palak G.

Never thought there would be a day where I would be eating egg benidict?? ( I don't eat egg) This is the first time I have seen vegan egg benedict on the menu and let's just say I was pleasantly surprised. The texture was so soft and fluffy and the salty "egg" paired perfectly with the jam. It is THE dish for my sweet and savory girlies. And there are potatoes on the side which are so crispy and filling! The breakfast burrito I wasn't that impressed with because it has a lot of fake meat which I am not a fan of. But if you like the taste and texture of meat and are exploring going vegan definitely give it a shot. I am quiet surprised at the amount of vegan options because most restaurants and breakfast places don't have it even if they are a chain! Also fyi the house-made ketchup is not it. I thought it would taste regular or Gourmet but it had a weird after taste. I went late afternoon and it was pretty busy still. They have plenty of parking and seatings both inside and outside and good for a larger party!

Breakfast Tostadas

Good spot for breakfast in Mission Valley San Diego. Our server was fantastic. Took care of me and my son constantly. Food was ok. My son loved the bacon pancakes, but I wanted my eggs on my tostada over medium and they here over hard. No runny yolk. I've been to other locations and this one was not very upbeat. The ambiance was sort of too slow.

I always want to give Breakfast Republic the benefit of the doubt bc it is so highly rated and the wait is always insane... but it really is just average for me. My table ordered the chilaquiles, the shrimp and ricotta frittata, and an American breakfast. The tortilla chips in the chilaquiles had a weird texture that was soggy and crunchy at the same time and just tasted like tomato paste. The beans and rice were nothing special. I was so excited about the frittata, but it tasted like nothing. Adding salt and hot sauce made it somewhat palatable. The buttermilk pancakes were the only thing we really enjoyed. After many tries, I think I've established that breakfast republic just isn't for me.

We ended up at Breakfast Republic after trying 2 other places first. (One was outrageously expensive for breakfast & the other was an order at the counter kind of place.) I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. Lots of humorous decorations and such. We both had the American, which came with 3 eggs, potatoes, toast and meat. The maple sausage was a large link and it was very tasty. I really liked the potatoes as well, and the eggs were good as well. The coffee was a bit strong for me, but it was very good and it was served in huge mugs; I couldn't finish the first cup, let alone have a refill. The service was really good; everyone was super friendly and welcoming. I'm glad we ended up there.

Iced Ube Latte

American brunch with creative menu offerings and options for those on a high protein or vegan diet. This restaurant does not take reservations, only walk-ins, so for large parties plan accordingly. They are quite a small restaurant in a strip mall. The staff are friendly but casual, and we had no trouble ordering. There was a mix up in which one person did not get their food for quite a long time, which was unfortunate, but accidents do happen. I ordered the California Breakfast Burrito, which I think is a Cali burrito because it has potatoes. It came with a side of rice and beans. The rice was rather dry and beans not very flavorful. The burrito was good, lots of big chunks of creamy egg and a hit of salty fattiness from the bacon. I enjoyed it most with their signature hot sauce on the table. I also got the ube iced latte, which was tasty, but more just generically sweet than any strong ube flavor. Just a heads up but it will also stain your lips and teeth a little. We also ordered a pancake flight and french toast sampler for the table. Some are smaller than others, for example the pineapple is just one pancake with pretty light toppings whereas the oreo one is two pancakes stacked with cream inside. The french toast was a hit with the table. The pancakes less so. The oreo was very crumbly, did not stay together at all, but the flavor was nice. The tres leches pancake is SO sweet. Even with a huge sweet tooth I could not handle it. Next time I would stick to the french toast, seemingly their better item, as at least the pancakes we chose were a miss. Overall it was a decent dining experience, but their food was not standout and even lacking in some areas. I think it stands somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, but for having a great vegan menu I will round up.

The hot chick Benedict & the Mr. Elvis French toast with a side egg

Came here for breakfast and we ordered the hot chick Benedict and the Mr. Elvis French toast. Both were very flavorful and the eggs were cooked perfect. Service was great I would definitely visit again.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Breakfast Republic in Mission Valley, and I have to say--five stars all the way! From the moment we were seated on the shaded patio (with outdoor fans keeping things perfectly comfortable), everything was smooth, relaxing, and absolutely delicious. Jazmine, our waitress, was a gem! So friendly, attentive, and on point the entire time. She made sure our drinks stayed filled without us even needing to ask, and her warm attitude added to the overall positive experience. She alone deserves 5 stars for her service! Now let's talk about the food--phenomenal is an understatement. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors? Out of this world. We requested to swap out the pork in our omelettes for turkey bacon, and they accommodated us with no extra charge, which we really appreciated. For the pancakes--WOW. My husband had the pineapple upside-down pancakes, and they literally tasted like the cake version--sweet, warm, and full of flavor. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake pancake sandwich--layers of fluffy buttermilk pancakes with cream cheese icing and graham cracker crumbles in between, topped with fresh strawberries and a side of syrup. The pancakes can be subbed out in replacement of the potatoes or bread options for $4 dollars more and you can pick any type of pancakes. It was hands-down one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. The kitchen staff deserves their flowers too--the food came out fresh, hot, and perfectly cooked despite the restaurant being busy. If you're ever in Mission Valley, do yourself a favor and check out Breakfast Republic in the shopping plaza (lots of parking, by the way). You won't be sorry you came!

I made a return trip to Breakfast Republic and forgot that I should not order their Shrimp and Grits. Eggs Benedict might have been a better choice for me. My shrimp and corn were properly cooked but they would have greatly benefited from being grilled or pan-seared. Also, I really prefer really cheesy grits. So, my suggestion is that you should come here for something else but not the shrimp and grits.

Bacon Mac & Cheese w/ scrambled eggs + Jurassic Pork
Laura M.

Super huge portions! But they gave small plates for sharing. Patio seating option if you happen to have your fur babies. Pretty casual and open. There wasn't much of a complaint with anything we ate, maybe just the rice & beans that came with the burrito. It was kinda dry &hard.. the other thing was the Mac&cheese, for some reason it was sweet. Not sure what it was because I only had a couple bites.. other than that it's a yummy brunch option if you want to meet up with friends.

Aditi D.

Brunch at Breakfast Republic in Mission Valley was a great start to the day. We ordered the Breakfast Tostada and the Veggie Breakfast Burrito, and both were delicious and super filling. The tostada was flavorful and well-balanced, and the veggie burrito was hearty without feeling heavy. Fun vibe, solid portions, and exactly what you want from a brunch spot. Would definitely come back!

Ube latte

This place is around the corner from where we live so we wanted to give it a shot. Food was very good! Highly recommended anything with egg in it, they have really good quality eggs! Service was great, friendly and welcoming and got the food out quickly. Family friendly place, is nice mostly outdoor seating with heaters. Highly recommend! The only critique is the Ube Latte has almonds in it.. would love if in the future they can make a nut free option with it.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off.
