4 kinds of coffee to taste

We had a Mother's day reservation so we got seated quickly in my favorite corner booth just right for party of 5. Service was great and food was good.

CHILAQUILES
Alyssa N.

Such a GOOD brunch spot in sd that hits all of the marks!! My family had a reservation on a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of street parking! We were seated after 15 minutes and the shop is so cute, well decorated and clean! It's a loud and bustling environment. I ordered the chilaquiles with chorizo and the mild chipotle sauce. I also got the horchata cocktail and it was really good! Not super strong though, good for a brunch. It wasn't spicy and I was scared the chorizo would be too salty but it wasn't! Very fresh chilaquiles. Their servings are HUGEEE - plenty of leftovers came home with me! Service was great, they kept checking on us and were super professional. I'd visit again!

First time visiting. I made a reservation just in case. I'm glad I did because it was busy (Thursday at 10 am). There was a line of about 20 people when we left around 11:10 am. I ordered the Cajeta Toast (french toast with caramel drizzle, berries, and powdered sugar paired with eggs and bacon). It was good overall. I got scrambled eggs, and they were the steamed liquid eggs which aren't my top choice. The bacon was meh. If I had to guess, it was that bacon that comes precooked or something on that quality level. Service was fine - straight forward. We were a party of three, and I did ask if they could split the check. Apparently, they can only split it two ways max so we just decided to just venmo our friend who paid with her card. The ambiance was super cute. The large tree inside was so pretty. There was a mix of cute booths and regular tables inside. There was outside seating as well that looked like a nice option if you want less reverberating noises (besides the planes that fly over Liberty Station). Overall, I had a good time. I would def come back and recommend to a friend. PS: They give out mini spoons with a scoop of cajeta with the check. Very nice touch!

I came to celebrate my birthday with my family and Cocina 35 gave me a wonderful experience. We had a reservation, we were seated immediately. It was Easter weekend so the restaurant was packed. But it had beautiful music playing, lots of people, and happy vibes. Everything on the menu looked delicious, it's hard to choose what you want. I do recommend you get there early, the parking lot is located next to a park along with other restaurants so it does get full. Our server Isabelle got water to our table and gave us great recommendations on the menu, and showed us from the front window what was popular on their menu. -we had the flight of margaritas -El Patron (chilaquiles with French toast 10/10) - The lotería burrito was well portioned and the salsa had so much flavor -El Tochomorocho my sister had a delicious sweet corn tamale that balanced the spiciness of the chilaquiles -for dessert: I was treated with a concha, cheesecake and churro plate to share with my family The cocha was 10/10! Heater on the stovetop and I think they put cajeta (goat milk caramel) tasted so different! When Isabelle brought out my dessert plate she rang a bell and had them sing happy birthday. PLUS! it's not Mexican if they are not chanting "Que le muerda! Que le muerda! (Bite it! Bite it!) Thank you so much Isabelle! You are wonderful, and I will never forget my experience. Thank you for making it special.

CHILAQUILES RANCHEROS

Food : Delicious chilaquiles! Mazapan iced latte , sweetened with the piloncillo syrup. Order the 3 x tacos de papa dorados and chilaquiles rancheros . The plates are huge you can share a meal. They have vegan options. Ambiance: Lovely! Outdoor & Indoor seating. Downside the tables for 2 - people are too close to each other, literally arms length so be warned. Service: 10/10 customer service! The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. The servers were quick and attentive. Servers came by often to make sure we were good. Had to take a walk around the park, the stomach was satisfied . The restrooms are clean & tidy. There is even mouthwash available for use.

* Great for brunch * Great food * Casual ambiance Such a great Brunch spot/chilaquiles spot! Wait times at this location can be long, so plan ahead. Note: your entire party must be present before being seated. Portions are huge and definitely shareable. The food is flavorful and satisfying. One thing I really loved if you're celebrating a birthday, the staff comes out to sing and celebrate with you, which is super sweet and makes your day extra special . This location can get busy depending on the day and time, but they do offer a variety of alcoholic beverages, which makes it even more fun. Just a heads-up: not all locations serve alcohol. We tried the Piñata drink, the margarita flight, and the celebration flight all fun options. Highly recommend the chilaquiles divorciados since you get to choose different sauces perfect if you love variety or want to try more than one flavor. The enfrijoladas are also really good. The coffee flight is awesome if you like sampling different coffees, and you can never go wrong with their house coffee. If you prefer cold coffee, the mazapán coffee is a must-try. This location is great for brunch with the ladies definitely a must-visit!

Ranchero chilaquiles

We absolutely love this place! Vibes are amazing, food is amazing and staff is amazing. Especially Ana

Presentation, ambience, and experience all five star. Food is 3 star which is a solid average in taste. That's said, I've been here twice. It's a great place to take out of town friends or meet the crew for lunch. The location is fantastic, right in the Liberty Station complex. After lunch, take a stroll by the water, fish from the bridge, loiter around the farmers market and soak up the sun and pleasant vibes all around Cocina 35. I'd suggest making a reservation, this place is always busy, for good reason. The photos paint a perfect picture of the restaurant. Enjoy!

After visiting a few times doing both walk in and reservations through opentable this place is not bad. I love the ambience, the inside is beautiful. The restaurant is located right across from the San Diego airport so you will hear an airplane taking off very often and it is loud. The service is not bad for the most part. The first time I went it was kind of annoying for them to tell us that we had a time limit but I've noticed that they didn't say that the last couple times I went so I don't know if they Took people's feedback into consideration or what but it was nice to not be rushed from the very beginning. After trying a few dishes the stars of this restaurant are definitely the Chilaquiles and the café de olla latte. I've tried the burritos and they are just OK, very dry. I've tried the pork quesadillas and the cheese makes it better but I can tell that if it didn't have the cheese it would be dry. The cream jalapeño sauce for the Chilaquiles is amazing. Carne Asada at this restaurant is not seasoned and they are tough pieces of well done beef. What's great about this restaurant is you can walk around after you are done. The weekend often have different events that you can wander to if you coincidentally are there while there is an event happening on the many lawns. Great place to meet up with your friends on the weekend unless you need three hours at least to chat.

First of all, if you can get a reservation, make it. This brunch place is super popular and it'll save you a lot of time. Your whole party needs to be in attendance to be seated. I went a few days after Christmas on a week day and the walk-in line was long. We were seated right away though, thanks to our reservations. Staff was really nice and we were happy with the service. The food is great and has been consistent through all my visits. We ordered La Bomba, Rancheros, and Cremosos. The servings are substantial with generous servings of protein in all the dishes. I'm partial to the red salsa, so the Rancheros with chorizo was a highlight for me. Solid brunch option, so would definitely recommend.

My friend and I stopped by for breakfast. We got there at 8:00am right when they opened. We did not have reservations but were able to be seated right away. By the time we were done at 9:00am, there was already a line starting to form. I got the El Patron sampler plate. I liked that it was savory from the chilaquiles and sweet from the french toast.

TORTA
Landon B.

This is some very good coffee to wake up to, iced or hot. The type you even get 1 to go but still wish you grabbed a couple bags on the way out. Service was awesome for a family setting or romantic vibes for newer couples. I had the torta with no mayo no cheese ordered side of the beans to smear on for substitute which was fire . Lastly the chipotle broth was the final topping to complement the rest of the sandwich. Aka Torta lol. Will be back.

So sweet The interior is so cool - very gothic medieval vibes inside!! We tried a couple of items but specifically LOVED the squash blossom and the crab donut and the duck memelita! We ordered about six small plates, and they were all delicious and unique. Hard to pick a favorite. I'd say the shrimp tacos were absolutely incredible. Everything else was packed with flavor and very different than anything you will encounter at any other restaurant. It is special. My only complaint is that the place is so dark that you can barely read the menu. Also, being so dark, you can't get a good look at the food or even see color. And I would think that the food is beautifully presented. We are in our 60s. That might have something to do with our inability to see anything in that low light condition. We had to pull our phones out so that we could light up the menu and check out the food we were about to eat. It does make for a dramatic ambience. There are thousands of candles that add to the experience. But I gotta knock them a point because I couldn't see my food or read the menu without help.

The gentleman/waiter handed us the menu and went on his way. Chips and salsa along with waters for the table were brought and then that was when the service of our waiter went downhill. We ordered the ahi tuna and guacamole for our appetizers but the timing for the meal was so off. It was a long wait before the waiter even checked back on us and which is when I asked for a refill on my water and chips. We had order drinks as well. The smoked old fashion was good and the ahi tuna appetizer portion was plentiful. There were some parts of the diced ahi that was a bit chewy. The gaucamole portion was large and it wasn't until I asked another waiter did my refill of water and chips arrive. For entree, we got the scallops with corn cake, a salad and I had the poblano burger. I asked for the burger to be cooked to medium. When the entrees arrived my burger was overcooked with no pink in sight. The flavor of the burger was good but the burger was definitely dry as can be. The corn cake with scallop was interesting it was almost like the corn cake was a croquet that encased a corn salsa. Overall the food was okay but the service left a lot to be desired. The waiter and the end seemed to put up a fake act when the check came. Since we asked for the check it seemed like the waiter was on hyper speed. Overall the view is nice but the food and service did not meet the expectations.

The salsa assortment is definitely worth ordering to go with the complimentary basket of chips and the complimentary salsa, because the three in the salsa assortment include very creative flavors, including an avocado-based salsa and a delicious pistachio one, along with one that is spicy enough to suit any palate. The house guacamole is also deliciously creamy and perfectly seasoned with lime. The real knockout dish that I had, though, was the taco with chicken pastor. I'm a big fan of pastor, but this is a very non-traditional preparation of pastor. Instead of being shredded pork mixed with a spicy sauce and hunks of pineapple, this was almost more like a Mexican cordon bleu where the chicken had been amazingly seared in some combination with cheese and pastor spices. It was absolutely delicious. The tacos might seem expensive at $10 apiece, but combined with the obviously house-made corn tortillas, I think they're a bargain. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere is very chill. There's a large outside seating area to enjoy, and San Diego is nearly always perfect weather.
