NEXT LEVEL CHILAQUILES!!! Wow...! If you're a fan of authentic Mexican flavors and haven't tried Cocina 35 yet, you're seriously missing out! I've previously visited their Coronado location and thoroughly enjoyed the Los Cremosos, which were spectacular. This time I decided to visit their Liberty Station location and try something different. Boy, am I glad I did! I ordered La Bomba, featuring their delicious Cochinita Pibil, a traditional Yucatán-style slow-roasted pork marinated with recado rojo (achiote paste) and naranja agria (sour orange). The depth of flavor was incredible! The pork was wonderfully seasoned, and the chilaquiles had that perfect combination of crunchiness, savory goodness, and rich, layered flavors. Every bite was an absolute treat! Seriously, some of the best chilaquiles I've ever had the pleasure of eating! (LOL...! Which is what I thought last time when I ordered Los Cremosos chilaquiles...!) Before my meal arrived, I enjoyed a wonderful cup of Café de Olla, adding a little cream and just a touch of piloncillo for sweetness. Alongside that was a tall glass of their freshly squeezed orange juice. What a fantastic way to start breakfast! Service was equally impressive. Isabella was fantastic! Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. She stopped by frequently to make sure everything was to my liking and kept my water glass filled throughout the meal. Exactly the kind of hospitality that makes a great dining experience even better. And let's talk about the atmosphere! The interior is absolutely beautiful and unlike your typical breakfast restaurant. A massive decorative tree with gorgeous pink blossoms spreads across the dining room ceiling, adorned with colorful hanging ribbons and warm lighting. Traditional Mexican papel picado banners hang overhead, and the bar area features beautiful golden star-shaped pendant lights. It's bright, inviting, whimsical, and full of character. Definitely worth taking a few photos! Between the spectacular food, outstanding service, and incredibly unique atmosphere, Cocina 35 has really created something special here. Having now enjoyed both the Coronado and Liberty Station locations, I can confidently say this is a restaurant I'll happily return to again and again. Super cute and lively place. I was walking by before a flight and popped in. They have a bar you can eat at and it was just me so took about 10 minutes to get a seat. The interior was really cute with a huge tree in the middle and everything very instagrammable. The service is slow, but they were busy to be fair. The bartender was friendly but I couldn't tell if he was trying to be funny or was just not listening. I said I'm allergic to mango and when I ordered a mimosa he said mango? Um...no and not funny. I got the chilaquiles divorciadas with the habenero and chipotle sauces. Nice kick, not too spicy. Would have liked a little more sauce. Added sunny side up eggs which were perfect, carnitas and carne asada. It was a lot of food, but I wanted to try it all. Outside of being a little dry, the chilaquiles were delicious, except for the carne asada which was gristly and overcooked. I told the bartender this and he didn't offer to exchange with a different meat or take it off the bill. It was $5.50 so not worth arguing about but it was also inedible. The carnitas were great. The mimosa was just a mimosa but the garnish (he said it was dehydrated orchid?) was a delicious touch. Overall, pricey but good. Skip the carne. Fun place to go with a group. I've had the privilege to go to this place four times: twice for a birthday, a bachelorette brunch, and a regular hang out. It's definitely a popular place thanks to the beautiful atmosphere, and their specialty: chilaquiles. Pros: Large portions, very shareable, food is ok/good for a popular Instagram place. Chilaquiles - De Mercado is definitely their best, balanced and not salty. All my friends agreed this is the best dish in this restaurant. Sampler - El Tochomorcho, nice variety, was ok, got salty in the end. Quesadillitas De Chilorio was mediocre, salty as you eat more, so it gets a bit underwhelming. Coffee: De la Olla was pretty good, more milky and cinnamon and not too sweet so it hits the spot. Agua Fresca - Delicious flight, if you can't decide a drink get this one. Cons: environmental noice and service - Noisier than average due to echo of building, making music very loud and as a result, people trying to talk over the music. It can be overwhelming by the end of the meal. - Service: inconsistent. First two times we had quick, wonderful service from front of house to end. Last two times it felt like we were waiting longer times and it felt very disorganized inside. We got our food before and never received any table water. When we requested for water the waitress, it felt that she was frustrated like we were bothering her; she then brought water bottles instead of regular water, we didn't realize was an extra change of $4.50 until later but at this point we didn't want to make a big deal, so just paid and left. It felt more of a retaliation for our request for water than a miscommunication. Crowd/Parking: Liberty station during the weekend is difficult, the surrounding area is very popular, there's a church nearby and liberty station hosts events / festivities, so allocate some time prior to your reservation to find parking and navigate through the crowds. Get a reservation about a week ahead if you're able to, if not be prepared to wait about an hour - two hours. Tl;dr: good for a first time experience, very beautiful but will not return simply due to the noise level/inconsistent service/parking just for food. read more

I've been to Liberty Station a few times recently and always noticed the long line. I had to find out why this place is sooo popular since I never heard of it. Come to find out from my initial attempt, they don't accept walk-ins and there's no open bar seating so reservations are a definite must or else you'll be in that wait line. I was excited to make reservations. When that day came, the staff were super friendly from the start...at the hostess stand outside then at my table inside. Once inside, I fell in looove with the decor and homely atmosphere. I was ready to immerse myself into the traditional Mexican breakfast culture. To kick things off, I ordered the Mexican Coffee Flight which came with some sweet treats. I loooved the presentation! After sampling each one, I decided to order the Mexican Scramble. It is located in Liberty Station right across from parking lot G. Since it is next to the park, there are plenty of street parking along Cushing Rd as well. They do have reservations but you can also walk in. Walk in line is on the left and check in line is on the right so double check before you stand in a line. They had a table with hot brewed coffee and fruits available to grab while waiting. We were a party of 6 but since they didn't have any large tables at the time, they just split us up to two but placed right next to each other. We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all delicious. Portions were pretty big and the food came out pretty quickly except for one that randomly came out late. Their chilaquiles were crunchy and the verde sauce was perfect. Beans were hiding on the bottom so make sure to dig in! Their bacons were a bit disappointing as they were more like shreds of bacon but flavor was good and was very crispy. Try their coffee drinks! We had iced Mazapan latte and Rosa Mexicano and they were both very good. Service was wonderful, staff were kind but a lot of the things were not explained. The bread (concha) and empanadas 'handed out' are not free and the birthday dessert is also not complimentary. It's definitely a popular spot. There was a line out the door, and we ended up waiting more than an hour to get in. This is their location at Liberty Station and there was a preexisting art festival of some sort going on, which might have added to the wait. But I bet they'd be busy regardless. Upon entering we noticed the colorful, vibrant decor. The Mrs. And her BFF couldn't help but to comment on "how cute!" Everything was. We got the seat next to the pink blossom indoor tree, seemingly the decorative centerpiece the dining room. The food was a wonderful variety of Mexican-inspired brunch, with different varieties of chilaquiles, while still having classics like pancakes. Anyone who knows me knows i absolutely must have pancakes during brunch. Here's what we ordered: - Agua Fresca flight: 4 distinctive flavors to try. The kids especially liked the horchata. - Omelette de la Casa: I chose carne asada. Excellent savory option. Pink pickled onions made the pictures look good while the carne asada was succulent! - Sampler de Mi Abuela: this was probably one of my favorites. Warm and fluffy pancakes with a Mexican twist on flavors including mazapan galleta Marias (first time discovering these cookies), and churro. * Kids Mini Toast: they have a kids' menu (+1 pt in our book). This was essentially a French toast and eggs that the Little One Enjoyed. She doesn't like runny eggs so i ordered over hard. Not the best for pictures but she loved it. The service was also friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. My only criticism is that there were quite a few unexpected add-on charges that weren't made particularly obvious. Here's what I mean: When we first sat down, a friendly lady wheeled a cart to us loaded with conchas and coffee and asked "would you like some bread for the table?" The way it was presented made all four of the adults think these were complimentary, similar to how a restaurant might offer complimentary bread before a meal. We later learned that these were additional charges. Similarly, she offered us chips and guac "for the whole table to share." Again, we found out these were an additional ~$20. Again, we were fooled because many other restaurants do offer this complimentary. But I must note that we did appreciate her friendly attitude, smile, and work ethic. The same thing happened with the bottled water from our server. We were asked if we wanted "water." Of course we did. She subsequently brought us bottled water at an additional charge but treated it like it was the default. Our friends actually then had the foresight to ask specifically if there was an additional charge for this, after which they found there was, leading to them declining, asking specifically for "tap water" instead. It was a bit frustrating because some of these things we were more than happy to pay for while some we would have passed on, had there been more transparency on what is included/complimentary vs. not. TBH, we all agreed that it as though they were trying to upsell these items to us, essentially pressuring us to buy them. A little more clarity/transparency could have fixed this. However, overall, we enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service. It was worth the wait in line and I can definitely see why this place is so popular for brunch. read more

Food is delicious with a large menu and a variety of items to choose from. They also have a giant drink menu which is super nice. Everyone enjoyed the taste and quality of their food in our group! The food itself gets 5 stars but the service knocks it down a bit. I have been here several times, and each time, despite having a reservation weeks ahead of time, we STILL have to wait for a table after checking in, sometimes up to 30 minutes. We had asked three different workers for water and even then we really struggled to get refills throughout our time. Our delightful experience began when we were greeted by the hostess, who could not have been warmer or more friendly. The entire wait staff was the same - they really make you feel like a welcome guest. The food was delicious. Obsessed is honestly an understatement! We first discovered Cocina 35 in 2024 after seeing a TikTok video about it, and we've been coming back ever since. What started as a place we wanted to try has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants in San Diego. We love it so much that whenever friends or family visit from out of town, it's one of the first places we take them. We've even introduced plenty of San Diego locals who somehow had never been before and every single person has loved it. One thing we really appreciate is the outdoor seating area. We have two kids under 3, and we usually dine with a group of 5-8 people, so having a spacious outdoor area makes a huge difference. They also have a kids' menu, and our 3-year-old always enjoys having multiple options to choose from. The only minor downside is the occasional plane flying overhead, but honestly, it's not a deal breaker and has never taken away from the experience. If anything, the popularity of this place speaks for itself. Make a reservation if you can! Walk-in wait times can easily reach an hour or more, especially on weekends. Finding truly authentic Mexican food can be difficult, but Cocina 35 does an incredible job. The menu has expanded since we first started coming here, and somehow it just keeps getting better. Every dish we've ordered has come out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Their chilaquiles are what initially brought us in, but we've continued exploring the menu and have yet to be disappointed. This is the second location I've been to! Please make reservations beforehand. The stand by line can get hectic for big groups. You have a better chance of getting in quicker if it's only for 2 persons. It was my friends first time and the hostess demonstrated how the food/drinks are presented. Once inside, it is beautifully decorated and designed. Definitely come dressed here with your girls or with family. The service was amazing! Such a GOOD brunch spot in sd that hits all of the marks!! My family had a reservation on a Sunday afternoon. Plenty of street parking! We were seated after 15 minutes and the shop is so cute, well decorated and clean! It's a loud and bustling environment. I ordered the chilaquiles with chorizo and the mild chipotle sauce. I also got the horchata cocktail and it was really good! Not super strong though, good for a brunch. It wasn't spicy and I was scared the chorizo would be too salty but it wasn't! First time visiting. I made a reservation just in case. I'm glad I did because it was busy (Thursday at 10 am). There was a line of about 20 people when we left around 11:10 am. I ordered the Cajeta Toast (french toast with caramel drizzle, berries, and powdered sugar paired with eggs and bacon). It was good overall. I got scrambled eggs, and they were the steamed liquid eggs which aren't my top choice. The bacon was meh. If I had to guess, it was that bacon that comes precooked or something on that quality level. Service was fine - straight forward. We were a party of three, and I did ask if they could split the check. Apparently, they can only split it two ways max so we just decided to just venmo our friend who paid with her card. The ambiance was super cute. The large tree inside was so pretty. There was a mix of cute booths and regular tables inside. There was outside seating as well that looked like a nice option if you want less reverberating noises (besides the planes that fly over Liberty Station). Overall, I had a good time. Food and Drinks alone are great. I'd say it's one of the few places where I feel the food itself is worth it and it's pretty close to authentic while still being aesthetic without compromising flavor and quality. Depending on the server they sometimes also make sure to be helpful and accommodate your allergies or intolerances. I have never gotten the chilaquiles until recently because out servers in the past told me we could not remove beans. Last month my server was so kind and helped me modify my dish to remove beans since I'm intolerant/borderline allergic and they tend to make me sick and develop hives. (See Picture: My chilaquiles were made without beans and I was able to try them for the first time) However, based on this and a few other visits I have noticed that the service is not exactly the best and is often lacking rather than being exceptional. Servers fluctuate between attentive during one visit, checking in on you, asking about allergies, checking if you'd like to order more food or drinks, etc. And other times servers are nonexistent on your next visit doing the bare minimum, Taking your order and then not returning until it's time to drop off the check. Another issue is the check and act of splitting it. It seems sometimes they can and sometimes they cannot and each time it feels like the server is annoyed and asking to split a bill is inconvenient to them.. For example, I've come here in the past with a group of people and we were able to split our check per person based on what we each ordered. Today I came in again with a large group and our server alleged that she was not able to split checks whatsoever and the most she could do is split it down the middle between two cards. This alone tells me that today's server was either new and unknowledgeable or just flat out lazy and didn't want to take the time or effort to split the check for our party. This is very inconvenient for individuals that only ordered one or two items and want to pay their items separately while allowing the rest of their party members who ordered the majority of the food/drinks to split the reminder of the tab of items among themselves equally or however they wish to do so. It's important to note they use Toast. As system many restaurants use and I'm very familiar with as well since I work as a server and use Toast too. Toast allows you to split checks in various forms and there is no limit whatsoever to how a check can be split. Additionally toast also allows you to split one item's cost into multiple portions to be split between people who shared an item together but also got their on items separately. So using the excuse that you cannot split a check in any form other than straight down the middle between two cards I honestly feels like a cop out from doing your job. Nonetheless, while the service and check issues may be mixed and often not the best. The food is always good and we have never had any issues with the food itself. And despite always leaving somewhat annoyed or unsatisfied with the service we always love the food and come back for the food only but i genuinely wish the service was better because good food with bad service should never truly be okay. And as a customer you can only continue to excuse and be okay with bad service so many times. Eventually the good food will not be enough to keep us as returning customers. For now I have concluded that for me this place sits between 3 and 4 stars. For this review I will be giving 3 stars based on the service and today's experience but if I was only rating the food it would likely be 4-5 stars. read more

I came to celebrate my birthday with my family and Cocina 35 gave me a wonderful experience. We had a reservation, we were seated immediately. It was Easter weekend so the restaurant was packed. But it had beautiful music playing, lots of people, and happy vibes. Everything on the menu looked delicious, it's hard to choose what you want. I do recommend you get there early, the parking lot is located next to a park along with other restaurants so it does get full. Our server Isabelle got water to our table and gave us great recommendations on the menu, and showed us from the front window what was popular on their menu. -we had the flight of margaritas -El Patron (chilaquiles with French toast 10/10) - The lotería burrito was well portioned and the salsa had so much flavor -El Tochomorocho my sister had a delicious sweet corn tamale that balanced the spiciness of the chilaquiles -for dessert: I was treated with a concha, cheesecake and churro plate to share with my family The cocha was 10/10! Heater on the stovetop and I think they put cajeta (goat milk caramel) tasted so different! When Isabelle brought out my dessert plate she rang a bell and had them sing happy birthday. I really enjoyed my time at this location! Thankfully I used Open Table to make a reservation as it was quite busy when we arrived. As we were seated, the server was kind enough to show us what to expect from our portions, which was really cool. Although it was busy, it wasn't crazy and the ambiance was great with a giant cherry blossom type of tree in the middle of the dining area. It was a very welcoming feeling as well. I started with an iced Cafe de la Olla which was great. I didn't add any creamer as it was sweet enough for me (I drink a lot of black coffee). Note: your entire party must be present before being seated. Portions are huge and definitely shareable. The food is flavorful and satisfying. One thing I really loved if you're celebrating a birthday, the staff comes out to sing and celebrate with you, which is super sweet and makes your day extra special . This location can get busy depending on the day and time, but they do offer a variety of alcoholic beverages, which makes it even more fun. Just a heads-up: not all locations serve alcohol. We tried the Piñata drink, the margarita flight, and the celebration flight all fun options. Highly recommend the chilaquiles divorciados since you get to choose different sauces perfect if you love variety or want to try more than one flavor. The enfrijoladas are also really good. The coffee flight is awesome if you like sampling different coffees, and you can never go wrong with their house coffee. If you prefer cold coffee, the mazapán coffee is a must-try. We came here with a reservation, and I'm so glad we did because the walk-in line was out the door and around the corner. We were seated promptly, which made for a great start to our breakfast. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The vibe was upbeat and lively without feeling overwhelming. The tree in the middle of the restaurant was gorgeous and such a unique centerpiece, and the bar area was really beautiful to look at as well. I ordered an espresso martini, which was delicious. For breakfast, I had El Patrón with chilaquiles verdes, and it was so good. The chilaquiles had great flavor without being spicy, which I appreciated. The meal also came with cajeta French toast, and it was absolutely delicious. It was the perfect sweet addition to the meal. Honestly, everything we had was amazing. First of all, if you can get a reservation, make it. This brunch place is super popular and it'll save you a lot of time. Your whole party needs to be in attendance to be seated. I went a few days after Christmas on a week day and the walk-in line was long. We were seated right away though, thanks to our reservations. Staff was really nice and we were happy with the service. The food is great and has been consistent through all my visits. We ordered La Bomba, Rancheros, and Cremosos. The servings are substantial with generous servings of protein in all the dishes. I'm partial to the red salsa, so the Rancheros with chorizo was a highlight for me. Solid brunch option, so would definitely recommend. read more

Presentation, ambience, and experience all five star. Food is 3 star which is a solid average in taste. That's said, I've been here twice. It's a great place to take out of town friends or meet the crew for lunch. The location is fantastic, right in the Liberty Station complex. After lunch, take a stroll by the water, fish from the bridge, loiter around the farmers market and soak up the sun and pleasant vibes all around Cocina 35. After visiting a few times doing both walk in and reservations through opentable this place is not bad. I love the ambience, the inside is beautiful. The restaurant is located right across from the San Diego airport so you will hear an airplane taking off very often and it is loud. The service is not bad for the most part. The first time I went it was kind of annoying for them to tell us that we had a time limit but I've noticed that they didn't say that the last couple times I went so I don't know if they Took people's feedback into consideration or what but it was nice to not be rushed from the very beginning. After trying a few dishes the stars of this restaurant are definitely the Chilaquiles and the café de olla latte. I've tried the burritos and they are just OK, very dry. I've tried the pork quesadillas and the cheese makes it better but I can tell that if it didn't have the cheese it would be dry. The cream jalapeño sauce for the Chilaquiles is amazing. Carne Asada at this restaurant is not seasoned and they are tough pieces of well done beef. What's great about this restaurant is you can walk around after you are done. The weekend often have different events that you can wander to if you coincidentally are there while there is an event happening on the many lawns. Great place to meet up with your friends on the weekend unless you need three hours at least to chat. read more

This is some very good coffee to wake up to, iced or hot. The type you even get 1 to go but still wish you grabbed a couple bags on the way out. Service was awesome for a family setting or romantic vibes for newer couples. I had the torta with no mayo no cheese ordered side of the beans to smear on for substitute which was fire . Came here for a brunch at Cocina 35 in Liberty Station and had such a fun time! The restaurant has a super vibrant atmosphere -- lots of energy, music, and birthday celebrations where the staff sings and gets everyone involved. Our server was amazing, and everyone we interacted with was very friendly and upbeat. We had a few cocktails, which were okay, and I ordered the chilaquiles -- they were yummy, and I especially liked the chipotle sauce. My friends also enjoyed their dishes. So nice, we brought our visiting friends twice! The entire experice was very pleasant. Made reservations (Do it) and we were seated both times promptly. Each person that came to our table (host, server, bread lady, drink staff) were all very polite and helpful when we had questions. The food won over our friends almost immediately. Pan dulce was nice and fluffy, chilaquiles delicious with a ton of flavor (la bomba) and the french toast with cajeta was a nice sweet end to our savory breakfast. The portions are generous and the drinks very refreshing (OJ was freshly squeezed). Comida mexicana done very well. Wow, just wow! Went there last week on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised! The staff was stellar and the food on point. What truly stood out was the Manager walking around and staff asking if your table or food were correct. I did not see ONE person just standing around! They must have an amazing HR department and offer employees ' customer sensitivity training' as when we were departing even the food prep personnel were waving at us! They were on it!
