The best thing on the menu is what is in their name. The bread! Sesame semolina is the right amount of crusty with toasted sesame seeds outside, use it for a sandwich, have it with a smear of butter and marmalade or dip it into a romesco or baba ghanoush-- a more elegant and less dense version of Whole Foods' now discontinued Pain de campagne. The Jambon Beurre is as Parisian as it gets. The baguette is perfect, butter satisfying, topped with good ham and gruyere. All elementary age group kids including ours were biting into honey glazed donuts and not one could be heard complaining, must be good. Lemon pound cake, a well made, delicate pound cake. After reading multiple reviews mentioning burnt bread or pastries, we were worried. Our fears almost came true in the toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, with one side dark, closer to black--some may call it burnt. But good news, I love my bagels a tad over toasted, it was a win-win. It is a very good bagel, does it stand a chance against Pearls's, no. Hazelnut ganache bar is a good cross between a fudge and a mousse, the citrus helps balance the dark chocolate and nuts. Not too sweet, great for sharing on a hike or eat it all by yourself. Least favorite item--maritozzo or the italian sweet bun--the whipped cream couldnt hide the over egginess--too eggy even for a brioche bun--plus not too much going on for it flavor wise. Service is fast, queues move quickly and ordering process is efficient, especially when compared to a a few years ago. Retail part of the store is enticing--jams, jellies, candies, crackers, wines. We stopped looking around after a point to keep ourselves from buying. Yes, they could do with more indoor seating. On a rainy day like today, it was crowded inside (which it usually is!) with everyone eyeing the 8?or so counter stools.

Bearclaw

A lovely little shop, full of snacks, some home goods, and many fresh bread/pastries and coffee. I got a bear claw and it was very flakey and had a great flavor to it. The tiramisu coffee was also quite tasty - a good balance of the coffee to the sweetness. I could probably spend thirty minutes just looking through everything in the shop. Definitely worth a little trip!

I heard many great reviews of this place (despite the Yelp rating) so I wanted to try myself. I think this would be a perfect cafe in NW DC... there was plenty of seating outdoors while indoors was meant for ordering + going through their non-bakery items. I was honestly overwhelmed by the number of pastry items on display, so I got a standard berry-filled pastry item (I forgot its name). It was pretty efficient to eventually make my way to pay for my item. I will say this is probably the most expensive pastry I've ever bought anywhere in DC, and it was only above average. I'm glad I tried this place though, and I'm intrigued to come by again

2/3 of a croissant?? Much smaller than it used to be

The attached picture is what was just sold to me as a croissant at Bread Furst. But it's not a croissant, this is 2/3 of a croissant with 1/3 missing!! At these stratospheric prices, you should at least get a whole pastry. Mr Furst, you can do better, and please stop telling your bakers to burn the bread. It's not what bakeries do in France, it's just burnt! 3 stars because it still tastes good.

Sandwiches were premade, not made to order. My partner and I had the chicken adobo (which is far from any adobo I've ever had) and the italian veggie sando. Bread felt tough, meat/veggie to bread ratio was disappointing. Wish it was made to order. Nice place, plenty of local goods for sale. But I'd steer away from the sandos and stick to the pastries.

Everyone here was so polite and nice, but I found the food to be slightly lacking. To be fair, this place is Bread Furst, and their pastries/bread did shine. In particular, the pain au chocolate was really great. It was buttery and sweet and had a good flake - all elements of a great croissant. But Bread Furst also sold some food in its fridge, and we tried their barley soup (which was way too acidic for me), and their eggplant dip (quite bland in my opinion). I'd come back to try their other breads! They sell some home decor (e.g., dishes) and some specialty goods (e.g., different kinds of salts).

So this cafe was very cute & I enjoyed walking through it. It seems like a place you'd actually stop by in Europe with the long narrow hallway & outdoor seating in the front. It was fun looking at the food being prepared but it's pretty pricey. For what we got (Veggie sandwich & chicken adobo sandwich plus a lavender latte & matcha latte), it was meh. The sandwiches were dry & I wish they were at least toasted or prepared fresh. We also got a croissant which was meh. The drinks weren't the best either, the matcha used a lower quality matcha & the latte just tasted like lavender syrup, but nothing special. I think it's a cool place to check out to get things for a picnic which is why we were there but otherwise food is subpar.

The pork chop was surprisingly so good with its caramelisation, side fruit and veggies, and sauce. I loved the gingerbread martini with the cookie and whipped cream drink itself. Baklava was apparently alcoholic and tasted good. The vibes here were pretty chill but also somewhat nice - they had some winter decor up too when I went. I'd definitely come again to try some of their other stuff and maybe their fun wine pairings!

I host a women's bar hop every other Friday, and this was our first night exploring Cleveland Park…read more I picked three spots for the group: Nanny O'Brien's, Atomic, and Little Blackbird. I had no idea Little Blackbird would completely steal the show. I used to have a little wine bar in my neighborhood before I moved to D.C., one of those cozy spots with big chairs and no reservations needed. I assumed Little Blackbird would be that kind of place. It is not. It is so much more. When we arrived, the place was packed and they were fully booked. I figured we would just move on, but the manager, who was absolutely phenomenal, took my name and number anyway. About thirty minutes later, she called to say they had a table for us on the other side of the restaurant. It was technically a different concept, but they still served the full Little Blackbird menu. That gesture alone said everything about their service. Once we sat down, it only got better. Their playful wine pairings are such a fun twist. I went with the Cheeto pairing, which was phenomenal, and a few others tried the Reese's and Smarties ones. We learned they even do a Girl Scout Cookie pairing in March, and I already know I will be back for that. The staff are passionate about wine and happy to let you sample even the delicate, higher end pours. It feels like they want you to have a genuine experience, not just a glass of wine. Even though it was a bar hop night and food was not really on the plan, I ended up ordering the gnocchi, which changes seasonally. The fall version was incredible, served in a pumpkin squash sauce with pumpkin seeds and a parmesan cream that sounded odd but worked perfectly. Every bite was rich and balanced. If I could give six stars, I would. The food, the wine, and the service were all phenomenal, but what really stood out was how much fun they make it. It felt playful, elevated, and just special. Little Blackbird made our night and will definitely be part of future bar hops.

Fantastic New American / European restaurant in a gorgeous space. I visited the Pembroke as part of…read morea work team dinner during Restaurant Week, and we were thoroughly impressed by the quality of the food, super friendly service, and great ambiance. The space is gorgeous; I love all the plants, and the light brown, light blue, and white color combination for their furniture makes the space look classy and modern. The light brown leather couches are comfortable, and I love the way they circle around the tables to create a natural, cozy booth. Our food was just as beautiful as the space. The Restaurant Week menu comes with an appetizer, main, and dessert. Given how indecisive I can be (and how expansive the normal menu is), I was grateful to have my choices narrowed down a bit. I started off my meal with the octopus. The octopus was remarkably tender and not overly chewy, and had a delightful char that gave it a slightly smoky flavor. They double downed on the smokiness with their burnt chili oil, which, alongside the lemon and salsa verde, gave the dish a wonderfully balanced smoky, savory, and slightly acidic flavor. The crushed potatoes had a lovely crispy shell on the outside and served as a great base for the tender octopus. The main course was probably the easiest choice of the evening -- I'm absolutely obsessed with branzino, so the second I saw it on the Restaurant Week menu, I knew that was what I had to get. The fish is beautifully broiled, with a nice, crispy skin and super tender, flaky flesh. It's topped with a few pieces of roasted garlic and a wedge of lemon. The fresh lemon juice, as well as the lovely side salad, offered a great pop of freshness to bring the whole dish together. And finally, for our dessert, I chose the chocolate torta. This wonderful dessert is remarkably rich and decadent, with a strong dark chocolate flavor. It's topped with a lovely marsala date sauce and scoop of sheep's yogurt ice cream, but still doesn't feel overly sweet. The sheep's yogurt in the ice cream offers a bit of tanginess, and I loved the addition of the candied walnuts for a bit of crunch.

We wanted classic diner breakfast and this is the closest to us, so we came again. It was...eh. The food was fine, just average diner food. What brought it down to "eh" was the service. When asked what options there were for bread, you get a somber "read the menu." And a blank stare. You have to be proactive on getting a servers attention, asking for silverware, asking for condiments, asking for anything. Don't expect anyone to check on you. My order was missing an extra paid item, so I flagged down the server to have it removed from the bill. We also ordered avocado toast with egg which was all cold, including the egg. Despite being relatively empty on a Saturday, the food took a while to get out. A couple people around us asked if their orders were forgotten. The vibe just felt like everyone was miserable to be there. Even the page of rules (you will be charged 10% for takeout, if you're under 21 you pay up front, etc.) on the first page added to the misery. For $42, I can't say I'd recommend it.

I say 'everything I received' because I didn't receive my drinks -- but the food was all great! The Chickpeas were well-cooked and flavourful, bathed in a tasty red sauce, the Buranee Bademjan eggplant was nice and soft plus super-tasty, and the salata added a nice crunch -- I ate mine along with the chickpeas, mixing some of each in my spoon, bite-by-bite. I do feel the salata was rather small for the price, and feel you -- the customer -- should know none these dishes do not come with rice or bread. It would be nice, I think, if this fact were written in the descriptions -- but apparently, those are AI-generated, or at least the one for the Chutney Sabz is, and it's definitely not what you get! The description says you get four things, but you only get one. Maybe I should've known that from the price, but I only figured it out later, after I'd gotten it. They are open until 1 PM on Saturdays, we reached at around 11:30 AM and I was half hoping for them to be out of most items. Fortunately, even though they were super packed, we were able to find all of the items we were looking for - thanks to the hard working staff as they continue to make their pastries until closing - unlike so many other bakeries these days that make a certain amount and call it a day! Now to the food, everything we had was absolutely phenomenal! I am not a donut person but I loved theirs as they were very flavorful and weren't too sweet. The space is a pretty cute, modern café with cherry blossom décor and a great mix of sweet and savory pastries. We honestly tried almost everything Garlic Scallion Bun - Soft, lightly toasted with just the right crunch. Inspired by a Taiwanese garlic bun, it was super easy to eat and one of my favorites (9/10). Matcha Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - A rectangular croissant absolutely loaded with matcha and chocolate, topped with matcha powder. It was almost a bit too heavy on the matcha for me, and the bitterness overpowered the chocolate. Banana Chocolate Twice-Baked Croissant - Banana cream on top with banana chocolate inside. Pretty straightforward--tasted exactly like what you'd expect from a banana chocolate croissant. Ube Cheese Kouign Amann - Unique sweet-and-savory combo. The ube adds a subtle sweetness while the cheese gives it a creamy balance. Rich and slightly dense, and I just wished there was a bit more filling to balance the pastry. Miso Garlic Salted Bread - One of my top picks. Savory, buttery, and paired with a slightly sweet brioche-like base that balances everything really well. Elote Bread - Corn-topped savory bread with a nice sweetness and texture. This and the miso garlic bread were tied for my favorites. Strawberry Passionfruit Kouign Amann - Fruity and rich, but a bit filling overall. I just wished there was more filling to balance the pastry. Sugared Donut - Simple and classic, just a soft, sugary donut done right. Drinks: * Strawberry Matcha & Mango Matcha - Both layer fruit puree with matcha, but the flavors stay quite separate rather than blending together. * Vietnamese Coffee with Cold Foam - Strong coffee base with strawberry-flavored cold foam. It's pretty sweet overall with less of a coffee-forward taste, but still smooth and enjoyable. * White Mocha Latte - More coffee-forward compared to the sweeter drinks, which I actually preferred. Overall, I loved my visit--great spot for both savory and sweet pastries with creative flavor combinations and a lot to try. I definitely preferred the savory items over sweet here particularly the garlic scallion bun!
