I have been going to bread, espresso & since it first opened. If you haven't been to Bread Espresso & yet, you are missing out. Those signature bread cubes are a work of art. The crunch on the outside gives way to the softest, most buttery interior. We went a couple of weeks ago. It's the first time i have tried the corn mou which i think is a must-try. The only thing I wish If prices for pasteries was less but otherwise everything I had here is so good! The best thing to get here is their French toast! My least favorite was the hojicha cream bun. The cream was more bitter than I expected, and the bread itself was very average. I would not get it again. Very friendly service. The matcha here is very good. It was on sale the time we visited and I almost went back to get another because it was so good and cheap! the chocolate croissant was fresh out of the oven when i tried it. It was soooooo good! The warm melted chocolate was phenomenal with the crunchy outside and soft flaky inside. The only downside is how much the croissant costs. I would only get it again if i saw it come out fresh, because it is too good to ignore then. But, i am not confident i can make it taste that good if it was taken home and reheated. The mous were both good, but I liked the melon pan more. If you ever had the boro japanese snacks, this melon pan tastes more like that than a typical melon pan. The barista that day was kind of rude to the customer in front of me and when I asked a question about their Hot Drink Tokyo Fog, he brushed off the question and shortly replied it was an iced tea. - there's a bottleneck at the cash register because of the workflow. The register person takes orders, cashes out, cleans and refills the trays, wraps each of your baked goods, and probably more. So there ends up being a longer wait there even if you're only grabbing 1 baked good, I ended up waiting a lot longer than I thought I would. In the back, you can order drinks and entrees at the counter, and they'll bring everything out to your table. All of the staff were friendly, but I felt the pricing was a bit steep for what you get. A small hojicha latte was $8 and came out barely lukewarm. The clam chowder was also mostly potatoes and, again, not very hot. This is a nice counter service bakery with fresh breakfast brunch lunch menu meal items. The main disposition isn't about the quality of the food at all, it's quite delicious, but it's more of the value perception (or reality) of the the prices and portions, which quite honestly is a subjective perception or rather opinion. I feel the portions can increase by 1/3 more OR the prices can be lowered by 30% and that feels like a justified sweet spot for this place to thrive. The Japanese Curry in the Bread Loaf Bowl was good, but at $22, it felt quite expensive given the lack of robust substance to the entree that lacked a quantity of meat and vegetables to be appetite fulfilling. It came with a side salad and I felt the entree was worth more like $12 to $15 as being right priced. Came here Sunday morning. There were couple people inside and not crowded. There were enough breads for everyone. It seems like they make small batches at a time and refill the shelves constantly. I got the Mou ($6.40), Mou edamame/bacon ($5.40), Mou matcha ($5.40), Mou chocolate ($5.40), and iced blueberry matcha latte ($8.90). i paid $40 for 4 bread and a drink (with tax and tip). Super pricey. The smaller Mou is 3" cube of bread. The edamame and bacon is my favorite. Bread is super soft and delicious. But wish there's more bacon and it wasn't crispy at all. Matcha Mou was very good but the chocolate Mou was just okay. The blueberry matcha was okay. The matcha powder was unsweetened and was light. Blueberry was insanely sweet. Not sure if I recommend the matcha drinks here, especially it's overpriced. I would definitely come back to get more Mou, and to try out their breakfast/lunch menu. read more

Visited while looking for a place to get some work and morning reading done while in town. It all started with readily available parking in the nearby neighborhood. I had the iced hojicha latte, while others had other drinks and tried the mou. I don't really have a prior parallel to compare the bread to, but it seems like it is their specialty, and it served as a nice snack to go with the drink! Service was prompt and very polite, though there were only two other patrons when we were there. I imagine that it wouldn't be too different with more people around. The inside space is nice, especially with some counter seating with outlets AND wi-fi AND some of the most comfortable high chairs with backs that I've ever sat in at a coffee shop. We ended up sitting in the outdoor seating outside because it was a nice day, which was nice if you're OK with the sound of passing car traffic on PCH, and the wafts of the taco place across the street. This is a fairly new Japanese bakery that opened this past year in Redondo Beach. I decided to wait until the hype died down after I heard how there were crazy long lines during opening week with their breads selling out super early. Fortunately, when I went yesterday, there were no lines and still a wide variety of breads available! I got their chocolate mou bread, curry mou bread, earl grey melon bread, hojicha cream bread, and matcha melon bread. My daughter and I loved the chocolate mou bread! It was soft and fluffy and not too sweet which is a key factor in delicious Asian breads! I also enjoyed the matcha melon bread which had a super soft bottom and a crunchy dome-like top with sugar crystals on it. Delicious! I also tried their iced dirty chai latte which was very good and pretty balanced although a bit on the sweet side. I'd recommend it though if you like chai, cinnamon and star anise flavors. There's a good amount of seating inside with tables as well as counter style seating. I saw several people there getting work done. They also have a few tables outside in their front patio. Tried the HOJICHA LATTE at Bread Espresso and honestly really enjoyed it. It leaned more on the refreshing side rather than heavy, and the flavor was actually really good. The space itself felt open and comfortable with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Parking was easy to find, which made the visit even better, and the staff was helpful and welcoming. A very interesting concept bakery, with bread cubes full of flavor being the main draw. I was enticed by the Japanese-styled baked goods, however only a few were truly worth writing about in my visit. The honey pan was very good, however the pizza and matcha pan weren't as well done as I expected. I came during the morning time when you'd think a bakery would have fresh goods, but the French Toast isn't available until 10 am. On the plus side, the servers are very helpful and friendly. It makes me think that whatever shortcomings this place might have will be fixed in a matter of time. One issue I have with this place is the price. A lot of the breakfasts sets start well over $12 which seems overpriced for relatively simple ingredients. I think some of the items might be oversized too. At least I'd take a smaller, cheaper version of any of their sandwiches. The inside is cozy with many seats and easy to access food items that might make you going back for seconds. That's that Bread, Espresso (&)! I've been hearing good things about Bread, Espresso & from my coworker and finally made it out to Redondo Beach for a quick visit. The place is much smaller than I had expected but gives super cute Japanese cafe vibes. I visited in the middle of the day, and their pastry cases were about half full. I grabbed the honey mou, matcha mou, and their famous custard mou. I also grabbed one of their toast plates, the mentaiko toast plate to be exact, which comes with toast topped with mentaiko, salad, a small side yogurt parfait. For drinks, I ordered their matcha latte with vanilla syrup for sweetener. I ate my plate in store and all my other breads to go. The mentaiko toast honestly wasn't anything that special. The mentaiko was kind of a hard blob that was hard to spread on my toast. The mou bread itself is good though--super soft on the inside but slightly toasty on the outside. It is a bit difficult to cut with a fork and knife though. Salad and yogurt were decent. When I received my matcha latte though, I already knew by the dull green color that it wasn't going to be good. And I was right. If you're a matcha enthusiast, skip the matcha, because you're bound to be disappointed. You won't get the earthy, umami flavor profile you're used to. I had the honey mou a few hours later, and it was quite delightful. Buttery, soft, not super sweet, it's the perfect representation of an Asian pastry. The matcha mou is also good. Oddly enough, I wasn't super impressed by their signature custard mou, but maybe it's because I ate it a day later straight out of my fridge. Not sure if I was supposed to toast it since it was in the store fridge when I picked it up. It wasn't bad though, but I didn't see the hype. Parking is limited. There is a small lot behind the building, or you can park on the street in the neighborhood next the store (it's on a hill though). Service was decent though; you could tell that the workers/managers wanted their customers to feel welcome and comfortable. Overall, I wasn't super impressed. The only thing I'd really come back for is the honey mou, but I wouldn't go out of my way to grab it. Skip the meals, skip the drinks. Came here for breakfast for the first time, we were blown away!! Is it only street parking, but not hard to look for. When you walk in, there are bakery items to choose from on the left. There were so many options in the menu! We tried the French toast plate. It was hands down the best French toast I've ever eaten! It was piping hot to begin with haha. Very soft, fluffy, and delicious! The salad and meats also tasted top quality! I order the honey and butter toast from the bakery! I really really enjoyed it. For food I had the Toast Plate Mou with French Toast and it was delicious and well-balanced. The star of the show was the french toast which was made with their specialty bread. It was not too sweet, custardy, crunchy and delicious. My friend said it was a bit too heavy for her, but I really enjoyed it! The meats were delicious as well. The sausage had a nice snap to it and I loved the lean cut of bacon. The side salad was nice and crispy and the yogurt parfait was pretty tart, but still enjoyable. Overall, a well-rounded breakfast. I also had it with the iced matcha latte and it was great as well. The drink wasn't milky and had a good volume of matcha. While I tend to like my matcha drinks on the sweeter side, this drink was a good balance between bitter and sweet. I also like how it was not too icy. The interior was clean and nice with a good amount of seating. There was even wifi and outlets there, so a good spot to do work. The service was good and the servers were polite and friendly. I ordered the ginger pork sandwich. The bread itself is excellent. Nice and crunchy on the outside, while soft on the inside. But as a sandwich, it was disappointing. The ginger pork comes out cold, which was a surprise. Since the bread was nicely toasted, the sandwich would have been much better if the protein was also warm. There's been a lot of buzz about bread, the newest being this mou, the newest dough to hit the beach cities by storm. So much hype, and I think for good reason! Their simple little cube of plain bread has such a perfect texture, airy but chewy mochi. The smaller cubes house ingredients savory and sweet, ranging from salty, savory curry beef and a fragrant, fatty bacon edamame to a sweet red bean or a mild custard. I'm writing this as I finish up the last of their new jalapeño cheese mou. I was pleasantly surprised as the sides of the cube are slightly crispy while keeping the inside insanely soft. The jalapeño provided a slight kick, but doesn't ruin the pastry. Honey mou and any of their croissants when they have it are also my faves! The iced dirty chai here is also really good. The small bakery is located on the corner of PCH and Avenue E, inside it is clean and with seating for 15 people. There are also 4 tables outside. We ordered Curry, Matcha and Edamame MOU cube breads, and Pineapple and Coconut Brioche. All 3 petite cubic breads were super fresh with soft crust, and silky crumb. The curry filling was savory and quite flavorful. The matcha filling had red beans and lightly sweet. The Edamame was the most plain of 3 but still quite good. The Coconut and Pineapple Brioche had a nice crust, and the filling on top had pieces of pineapple. Not too sweet and quite delightful. The only deterring factor preventing my more frequent visits is the prices which were on the high side. Still, I will visit the store often, maybe not as often as I would like. read more
